The anesthesiologist never spoke to me personally although I had concerns about general anesthesia. I was feeling sick and sleepy after surgery, so I was not able to ask for cold packs to minimize swelling and bruising till hours later. I think the nursing staff should have initiated it, or at least offered the cold packs. I had significant swelling and bruising for several days. I looked frightening the first week, so much so that I couldn't use 'face recognition' app. I still don't like 'the new look' of my face. Feel like it has been pulled too tight. And the extra folds of the eyelids which was the reason I wanted corrective surgery, are still present and not improved.
About Bookimed service
Mixed experience. Overall good service, but surgical outcome has been less favorable than I was hoping for (2 months later).

I enjoyed my experience, due to staff being friendly and understanding
I enjoyed my experience, due to staff being friendly and understanding . I felt very comfortable and understood. I would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone. I got lipo and a BBL done, so as you can imagine that was quite scary. But the medical team are very calm and reassuring.

My only issue was the availability of staff after my surgery. I was placed in a room and was only checked on once during my 3 hours recovery. I had to call a nurse to ask if I could discharged.I was fortunate that my husband was with me.

FAQ about Double Eyelid Operation in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the common risks associated with a double eyelid operation in Thailand?

Common risks for double eyelid operations in Thailand include asymmetry, temporary swelling, and dry eye. Some patients experience scarring or difficulty closing their eyes if too much skin is removed. Choosing JCI-accredited hospitals in Bangkok helps maintain surgical safety and hygiene standards.

  • Asymmetry: Revisions may be needed if the eyelid folds appear uneven after healing.
  • Eye irritation: Patients often report dry eyes or temporary difficulty with tear production.
  • Placement issues: The crease might be positioned too high or low for your face.
  • Infection control: High-volume clinics use HEPA filtration and clean room standards to prevent infection.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgeons at top Bangkok clinics have exceptionally high case volumes. For example, Dr Phatcharasak Kraisornphongsakul at ID Clinic Bangkok has performed 20,000+ operations. This repetition often leads to precise crease placement and fewer cases of post-operative asymmetry.

What surgical techniques are available for a double eyelid operation in Thailand?

Surgeons in Thailand perform double eyelid operations using incisional, non-incisional (suture), and partial-incision techniques. These procedures at JCI-accredited Bangkok centres create a defined upper eyelid fold. Specialists often combine crease formation with epicanthoplasty or fat removal. This helps suit individual eye anatomy and skin thickness.

  • Incisional method: Permanent technique suited for thicker skin and removing excess fat or tissue.
  • Suture technique: Non-incisional approach using stitches for quicker recovery and minimal scarring.
  • Partial-incision: Hybrid method balancing the durability of incisions with the faster healing of sutures.
  • Epicanthoplasty: Optional procedure to lengthen the eye by reshaping the inner corner fold.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics like Wansiri Hospital and ID Clinic Bangkok use 3D facial scanning to map eyelid symmetry. This technology allows surgeons such as Dr Phatcharasak Kraisornphongsakul to precisely customise crease height. Dr Phatcharasak Kraisornphongsakul has performed 20,000+ operations.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand often choose incisional methods for a permanent, stronger crease. Those prioritising minimal downtime suggest the suture technique. They note that surgeons frequently suggest fat removal for puffy lids to keep the fold defined.

What is the typical recovery timeline following a double eyelid operation in Thailand?

Double eyelid surgery in Thailand typically requires 7 to 14 days for visible swelling and bruising to subside. Most patients return to light activities after stitch removal on day 5. The final eyelid crease matures into a natural appearance over 3 to 6 months.

  • Initial healing: Swelling and bruising peak during the first 3 days after surgery.
  • Stitch removal: Surgeons at clinics like Yanhee International Hospital typically remove stitches on day 5.
  • Social readiness: Most patients feel comfortable in public with makeup or glasses after 2 weeks.
  • Strenuous activity: Heavy lifting and intense exercise must be avoided for 4 to 8 weeks.
  • Final results: Eyelid symmetry and crease definition usually settle fully within 3 to 6 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic healing takes a week, several Bangkok clinics offer specialised aftercare like light therapy. Dr. Chen Surgery Hospital uses hyperbaric oxygen to speed up swelling reduction. This is a smart choice for Australians wanting to look presentable before their flight home.

Patient Consensus: Expect eyes to look obviously post-op for the first week. Planning 2 weeks of downtime in Thailand ensures eyes look socially presentable before heading back to Australia.

How can I identify reputable medical facilities for a double eyelid operation in Thailand?

To identify reputable medical facilities in Thailand, verify Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. You should also check surgeon credentials from the Royal College of Surgeons Thailand. Top Bangkok clinics use 3D facial scanning and board-certified specialists for precise crease symmetry and surgical safety.

  • Facility accreditation: Top centres like Bumrungrad and Yanhee hold JCI and ISO international quality certifications.
  • Surgeon expertise: Dr Phatcharasak Kraisornphongsakul at ID Clinic has performed over 20,000 successful plastic surgeries.
  • Specialist training: Surgeons like Dr Narongdej Jiarapeepan completed specialised facial anatomy training in Melbourne, Australia.
  • Technical precision: International centres like Dr. Chen Surgery Hospital use Swiss 3D scanning for result planning.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Small clinics offer lower prices, but hospital-backed facilities in Bangkok provide higher safety standards. Major centres like Asia Cosmetic Hospital report 0% major complication rates. They include cardiologist-supervised anaesthesia and private 24-hour nursing care, which standalone beauty clinics often lack.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend choosing eye-specialists over general cosmetic doctors because eyelid revisions are very difficult. In Thailand, hospital-supported clinics offer much better emergency backup and postoperative swelling treatments.
