The anesthesiologist never spoke to me personally although I had concerns about general anesthesia. I was feeling sick and sleepy after surgery, so I was not able to ask for cold packs to minimize swelling and bruising till hours later. I think the nursing staff should have initiated it, or at least offered the cold packs. I had significant swelling and bruising for several days. I looked frightening the first week, so much so that I couldn't use 'face recognition' app. I still don't like 'the new look' of my face. Feel like it has been pulled too tight. And the extra folds of the eyelids which was the reason I wanted corrective surgery, are still present and not improved.
About Bookimed service
Mixed experience. Overall good service, but surgical outcome has been less favorable than I was hoping for (2 months later).

I enjoyed my experience, due to staff being friendly and understanding
I enjoyed my experience, due to staff being friendly and understanding . I felt very comfortable and understood. I would definitely recommend this clinic to anyone. I got lipo and a BBL done, so as you can imagine that was quite scary. But the medical team are very calm and reassuring.

My only issue was the availability of staff after my surgery. I was placed in a room and was only checked on once during my 3 hours recovery. I had to call a nurse to ask if I could discharged.I was fortunate that my husband was with me.

FAQ about Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty) in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty) and what does it achieve?

Cat Eye Surgery (canthoplasty) is a permanent procedure in Thailand that lifts and reshapes the outer eye corners. It tightens the lateral canthus and removes excess skin to create an upward, almond-shaped, cat-like eye appearance.

  • Permanent alteration: surgically repositions and tightens the lateral canthus.
  • Skin removal: cuts significant tissue to change eye anatomy dramatically.
  • Result: creates upward-sloping, winged eye corners for a youthful look.
  • Risks: early appearance may look droopy; results are irreversible.
  • Patient caution: confirm extent of skin removal and avoid rushed decisions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand’s cat eye surgery offers dramatic results but requires careful patient choice. Clinics like ID Clinic Bangkok and Bumrungrad International Hospital serve Australian patients with expert surgeons, though Turkey has nearly four times more specialists, offering wider options for Australians considering this extreme eyelid reshaping.

Patient Consensus: Australians praise the lasting "cat eye" effect but warn that healing needs patience. Many highlight the importance of post-op care to manage dryness and maintain results after the noticeable eye lift in Thailand.

What are the differences between Canthoplasty and Canthopexy for Cat Eye Surgery in Thailand?

Canthoplasty and Canthopexy in Thailand differ in invasiveness and effect. Canthoplasty reshapes the eye by cutting and repositioning tendons for a dramatic cat eye look. Canthopexy tightens tendons without cutting for a subtler almond lift with less downtime.

  • Canthoplasty invasiveness: surgical tendon cutting and repositioning for permanent shape change.
  • Canthopexy method: suture-based tightening that supports existing tendon without cutting.
  • Recovery times: Canthoplasty causes 4 days difficulty opening eyes, 3 months tightness; Canthopexy heals faster.
  • Typical uses: Canthoplasty corrects round eyes or sagging; Canthopexy prevents drooping or supports blepharoplasty.

Bookimed Expert Insight: In Thailand, Canthoplasty delivers a lasting "cat eye" and requires more recovery, offered by surgeons with extensive experience like Dr Siripong Lakkhanawong. Canthopexy, less invasive and reversible, pairs well with eyelid surgery, showing how clinics balance dramatic results versus quicker healing for Australian patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand say Canthoplasty gives bold eye shape changes but longer recovery and numbness. Canthopexy feels safer with quicker healing and subtler effects, ideal if just lifting droopy eyelids without big shape shifts.

What is the recovery time for Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty) in Thailand?

Recovery from Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty) in Thailand usually takes 10–14 days before returning to non-strenuous work, with initial swelling lasting 7–10 days. Full healing, including scar and eye shape settling, takes 3–6 months for final results.

  • Swelling duration: Initial swelling peaks for 7–10 days, easing significantly after 2 weeks.
  • Stitch removal: Typically occurs 5–7 days post-surgery in Thai clinics.
  • Return to work: Most can resume light work and social activities in 10–14 days.
  • Full recovery: Scar maturation and eye shape settling may require 3–6 months.
  • Post-op stay: Australians plan 10–12 days in Thailand for healing and stitch removal.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Wansiri Hospital and Bumrungrad International Hospital handle hundreds of international patients yearly, with well-established recovery protocols including stitch removal and swelling management. Australian patients benefit from planning for at least a 10-day stay to avoid post-flight swelling issues, a detail many overlook.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report swelling dropping noticeably after two weeks. Most felt confident returning to daily routines within 10–14 days and appreciated local surgeons’ clear guidance on aftercare.

Why should Australians choose Thailand for Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty)?

Australians choose Thailand for cat eye surgery (canthoplasty) due to skilled plastic surgeons, many internationally board certified, and clinic standards certified by the Royal College of Surgeons Thailand. The procedure costs from $2,300 to $3,700, about 54% less than Australian prices.

  • Accreditations: Clinics like Wansiri Hospital hold Royal College of Surgeons Thailand certification.
  • Surgeon experience: Dr Siripong Lakkhanawong offers over 25 years’ expertise in plastic surgery.
  • Clinic tech: Bangkok’s Bumrungrad International Hospital uses advanced robotics and digital imaging.
  • International care: English-speaking staff and long, direct surgeon consultations available pre-op.
  • Recovery expectation: Swelling after surgery can last up to 9 months, so patience is key.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bangkok clinics with Royal College certification often combine skilled surgeons and modern tech, offering consultations up to 3 months ahead. This long pre-op time lets patients make sure surgeons fully understand the desired outcome, which matters more than just picking the cheapest option.

Patient Consensus: Australians appreciate Thailand’s expert eye surgeons and lower prices compared to Sydney. Many say longer pre-surgery chats help set clear expectations. The tropical location also adds comfort during recovery.

Can Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty) in Thailand be combined with other facial procedures?

Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty) in Thailand can be combined with other facial procedures like upper and lower blepharoplasty, brow lifts, and forehead reduction. These combinations provide more comprehensive facial rejuvenation with surgical methods offering durable, long-lasting results and less visible early recovery signs.

  • Techniques available: surgical canthoplasty and thread-based temporary lifts.
  • Common combos: Canthoplasty with upper/lower blepharoplasty and brow lifts.
  • Recovery: internal dissolvable sutures reduce early visible signs post-op.
  • Clinics like ID Clinic Bangkok hold Royal College of Surgeons Thailand accreditation.
  • Multi-procedure sessions offer safer, cost-effective treatment in Bangkok hospitals.

Bookimed Expert Insight: In Thailand, surgical canthoplasty combined with blepharoplasty and brow lifts is standard at major centres, such as Wansiri Hospital, with 30 certified doctors and Clean Room operating theatres. This approach provides lasting results with minimal downtime, ideal for Australian patients seeking thorough facial lifts in one visit.

Patient Consensus: Most patients find combining canthoplasty with eyelid surgeries in Thailand smooth and cost-effective. The healing looks natural early on, and follow-up care helps maintain good long-term results after 12+ months.

What is included in the surgical package for Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty) in Thailand?

The surgical package for Cat Eye Surgery (Canthoplasty) in Thailand usually covers the surgery itself with local anaesthesia or sedation. It includes pre-surgical consultation, internal dissolvable sutures, medications like antibiotics and eye drops, and at least one follow-up before leaving the country.

  • Pre-operative consultation: meeting with an oculoplastic or plastic specialist.
  • Surgery fees: Canthoplasty procedure performed with local anaesthesia or sedation.
  • Medications: antibiotics, pain relief, and eye drops for home care.
  • Sutures: internal dissolvable ones, no removal appointment needed.
  • Follow-up: at least one surgeon or nurse check-up before departure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Thai packages include hotel stays, nursing care, and transfers to ease recovery abroad. Coordinators advise booking through facilitation services to get full support with nursing and transport, avoiding risks of managing aftercare alone in a foreign country.

Patient Consensus: Patients appreciate that packages cover surgery, medication, and follow-ups. Hotel stays and airport transfers are often included for easier recovery in Thailand. Follow-up checks before leaving give extra peace of mind.
