How Much Does Knee replacement Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Knee replacement in Turkey usually costs between AUD $9,255 and AUD $19,935. Final prices depend on whether the surgery is unilateral or bilateral, the choice between manual or robotic-assisted techniques, and the specific implant brand used. Patients save around 59% by travelling to Turkey from Australia, where this procedure costs AUD $35,740 on average. Most Turkish packages include surgeon fees, hospital stays, pre-operative tests, and VIP transfers between the airport and clinic.

  • Unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement: AUD $4,984 to AUD $12,531 for replacing only one part of the joint.
  • Total knee replacement (arthroplasty) revision: AUD $9,825 to AUD $15,521 to correct or replace a previous implant.
  • Knee MAKOplasty: AUD $12,815 to AUD $28,478 for precision robotic-assisted resurfacing.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery: typically adds 20–30% to the cost compared to manual methods.
  • 3D-printed surgical guides: often included in mid-tier packages to improve implant alignment and accuracy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing robotic-assisted surgery in Turkey offers exceptional value for Australians seeking precision. For instance, Turan Turan Health Group has performed over 3,500 robotic procedures. While basic manual packages start around A$16,000, upgrading to a robotic-assisted package with premium implants like Smith & Nephew typically runs about A$20,900. These comprehensive packages often include 10 days of hotel accommodation and physiotherapy sessions to support early recovery.

If a friend asked me about this, I'd tell them the difference is night and day
If a friend asked me about this, I'd tell them the difference is night and day. My knee feels so much better than it did before the surgery, with much less pain. Of course, recovery isn't instant. The biggest challenge for me right now is some morning stiffness, but once I get moving it improves. The clinic staff and surgeon were professional and answered all my questions about the full replacement, which included the kneecap and a Smith & Nephew implant. I can already bend my knee past 90 degrees easily. It was the right decision.
The coordination of services and language translation was excellent. We felt very cared for and the team listened to our concerns and we had professional, sophisticated and compassionate care.
My one concern was the difficulty we had with one of the translators at the hospital in Istanbul but it was because of difficulty with communication and misunderstanding.

The doctor is very competent, trustworthy, attentive, positive and charismatic
My father, 76 years old, had a knee replacement - Dr Olcay Guller. The doctor is very competent, trustworthy, attentive, positive and charismatic. This is important because my father was very worried and doubtful, but after the first meeting with the doctor he was completely reassured. All pre-operative investigations were organised quickly. Preparation for the operation and the operation itself - everything went smoothly. The next morning my dad was already walking along the corridor with the help of crutches. Nurses and nurses are attentive and friendly, no remarks. Feeding was also excellent, even a lot. I was placed in a spacious ward with a large window and air conditioning. In the bathroom everything is adapted for immobile patients, spacious barrier-free shower. On the territory of the hotel there are a couple of cafes with a good menu, Starbucks. The internet in the hospital is quite good.
All in all it was a pleasant experience. Would recommend the hospital with a clear conscience if needed
About Bookimed service
I don't know how long I would have searched for a hospital myself if I hadn't written to Bukimed. There was hardly any free time for this, and there were many doubts about the choice. With Bukimed everything unfolded quickly and in a couple of weeks my father was already seen by a doctor.

Our Knee replacement Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Knee replacement, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Knee Arthroscopy

A minimally invasive surgical procedure used to diagnose and treat problems in the knee joint by inserting a small camera and instruments through tiny incisions.

Pros: Offers quicker recovery times than open surgery, with fewer complications. Studies show up to 80% success in treating meniscal tears.
Cons: Limited to minor repairs and may not address severe arthritis. There's a 10-20% chance of needing further surgery.
Effectiveness: Effective in 70-90% of cases for relieving pain and improving function.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: 1-6 weeks
Best for: Meniscal tears, loose fragments, and mild to moderate cartilage damage.
Prices: Cost of Knee Arthroscopy in Turkey from AUD $2,563

Unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement

This procedure involves replacing only one compartment of the knee joint, preserving more of the patient's natural bone and ligaments.

Pros: Retains more natural knee function with 85% of patients reporting a more natural feel compared to total knee replacement. Smaller incision results in quicker recovery.
Cons: Not suitable for patients with severe arthritis affecting multiple compartments. Revision rate is higher, with about 10% needing further surgery within 10 years.
Effectiveness: 10-year survival rate is approximately 85%.
Duration: 1-2 hours.
Recovery: 3-6 months.
Best for: Patients with arthritis confined to a single knee compartment. Ideal for those under 60 years old.
Prices: Cost of Unicompartmental (partial) knee replacement in Turkey from AUD $4,984

Knee MAKOplasty

Knee MAKOplasty is a minimally invasive knee surgery using robotic assistance to ensure precise implant placement.

Pros: Provides more precision than traditional knee surgery, with a 90% success rate in pain reduction. Minimally invasive, leading to smaller incisions and less scarring.
Cons: Requires specialized equipment and training, which may not be available in all facilities. Longer learning curve for surgeons compared to traditional methods.
Effectiveness: 98% accuracy in implant positioning, enhancing joint function and longevity.
Duration: 2-3 hours
Recovery: 4-6 weeks
Best for: Patients with osteoarthritis affecting one or two knee compartments. Suitable for individuals seeking faster recovery.
Prices: Cost of Knee MAKOplasty in Turkey from AUD $12,815
