How Much Does Knee MAKOplasty Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Knee MAKOplasty in Turkey typically costs from AUD $12,963 to AUD $28,807 for robotic-assisted replacement. Final prices depend on the choice of premium implants, clinic accreditation, and the surgeon's robotic experience. In Australia, patients often pay around AUD $33,848, meaning travelling to Turkish medical hubs like Istanbul, Bursa, or Antalya offers savings of approximately 38%.

  • Robotic-assisted technology: typically adds a 20–30% premium over traditional manual knee replacement methods.
  • Bilateral surgery: performing both knees simultaneously usually costs 50–70% more than a single knee.
  • Premium implants: use of specific ceramic or Oxinium materials increases the total procedure cost.
  • JCI-accredited facilities: hospitals with international quality certifications often price services at the higher end.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish institutions offer remarkable value by bundling advanced diagnostics into surgical rates. Liv Hospital Ulus provides packages around A$33,600 that include VIP transfers and CT scans. For those seeking massive experience, specialists like Dr. Erman Cekic have performed approximately 10,000 joint replacements. Choosing Bursa-based clinics can also reduce costs compared to high-tier Istanbul centres without compromising on robotic precision.

If a friend asked me about this, I'd tell them the difference is night and day
If a friend asked me about this, I'd tell them the difference is night and day. My knee feels so much better than it did before the surgery, with much less pain. Of course, recovery isn't instant. The biggest challenge for me right now is some morning stiffness, but once I get moving it improves. The clinic staff and surgeon were professional and answered all my questions about the full replacement, which included the kneecap and a Smith & Nephew implant. I can already bend my knee past 90 degrees easily. It was the right decision.
The coordination of services and language translation was excellent. We felt very cared for and the team listened to our concerns and we had professional, sophisticated and compassionate care.
My one concern was the difficulty we had with one of the translators at the hospital in Istanbul but it was because of difficulty with communication and misunderstanding.

The doctor is very competent, trustworthy, attentive, positive and charismatic
My father, 76 years old, had a knee replacement - Dr Olcay Guller. The doctor is very competent, trustworthy, attentive, positive and charismatic. This is important because my father was very worried and doubtful, but after the first meeting with the doctor he was completely reassured. All pre-operative investigations were organised quickly. Preparation for the operation and the operation itself - everything went smoothly. The next morning my dad was already walking along the corridor with the help of crutches. Nurses and nurses are attentive and friendly, no remarks. Feeding was also excellent, even a lot. I was placed in a spacious ward with a large window and air conditioning. In the bathroom everything is adapted for immobile patients, spacious barrier-free shower. On the territory of the hotel there are a couple of cafes with a good menu, Starbucks. The internet in the hospital is quite good.
All in all it was a pleasant experience. Would recommend the hospital with a clear conscience if needed
About Bookimed service
I don't know how long I would have searched for a hospital myself if I hadn't written to Bukimed. There was hardly any free time for this, and there were many doubts about the choice. With Bukimed everything unfolded quickly and in a couple of weeks my father was already seen by a doctor.

FAQ about Knee MAKOplasty in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is MAKOplasty robotic-assisted partial knee replacement surgery in Turkey?

MAKOplasty in Turkey is a robotic-assisted partial knee replacement using the MAKO system. It customises implants with 3D scans for precise bone alignment. This minimally invasive procedure offers faster recovery, smaller incisions, and retains healthy knee ligaments for a more natural feel.

  • 3D surgical planning: Uses CT scans to model patient-specific knee anatomy.
  • Haptic robotic guidance: Robot limits bone removal to planned zones, ensuring accuracy.
  • Ligament preservation: Keeps cruciate ligaments intact for better knee function.
  • Surgeons with 500+ robotic procedures operate at clinics like Istinye University Liv Hospital.
  • Recovery: Faster than traditional replacement, with physio and cycling recommended.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics like Istinye University Liv Hospital offer packages including MRI, CT scans, VIP transfers, and follow-up exams. High-volume surgeons with robotic expertise perform these precisely guided surgeries, giving Australian patients advanced care in internationally respected hospitals.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate the precise alignment and quicker recovery from MAKOplasty. Many highlight the importance of pre-surgery exercises and physio after to regain motion. The surgery’s customised approach feels more natural than traditional knee replacements.

Who is a good candidate for robotic-assisted partial knee replacement MAKOplasty in Turkey?

Good candidates for robotic-assisted partial knee replacement (MAKOplasty) in Turkey usually have osteoarthritis restricted to one or two knee compartments, intact ligaments, and moderate deformity. They seek precise, minimally invasive surgery for localised pain and aim to return to active lifestyles with better knee function.

  • Localised osteoarthritis: Damage confined to medial, lateral, or patellofemoral compartments.
  • Healthy ligaments: Especially intact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) for stability.
  • Moderate deformity: Reasonable knee alignment without severe angular deformities.
  • Failed conservative treatments: No long-term relief from meds, therapy, or injections.
  • Pre-op 3D planning: CT scans create precise models for personalised implant placement.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Liv Hospital Ulus offer surgeons with 500+ MAKOplasty procedures, ensuring expertise with robotic precision. Turkey's leading orthopaedic centres integrate CT-based 3D planning and patient-specific approaches, giving better implant fitting and fewer complications than manual replacements.

Patient Consensus: Candidates note Turkey clinics confirm MAKO platform use before booking. They value clear criteria from Australian GPs and appreciate tailored treatment plans for single compartment arthritis and moderate deformity cases. Realistic expectations are key to satisfaction.

What are the advantages of MAKOplasty robotic partial knee replacement over traditional knee replacement in Turkey?

MAKOplasty robotic partial knee replacement in Turkey offers precise implant placement and preserves healthy knee parts. It uses a 3D CT scan for tailored surgery and haptic robotic arms to avoid soft tissue damage. This results in faster recovery and a more natural knee feel than traditional replacement.

  • 3D CT-based planning: creates patient-specific surgery guides for accuracy.
  • Haptic robotic arm: restricts cuts to safe zones, protecting soft tissues.
  • Partial replacement: targets only damaged knee compartments, preserving ligaments.
  • Minimally invasive: smaller incisions reduce pain and speed up recovery.
  • Clinics like Liv Hospital Ulus use implantcast implants with surgeons having 500+ procedures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey’s top robotic knee centres blend advanced tech with experienced surgeons. For example, Liv Hospital Ulus offers a package by Dr Erden Erturer, who has 500+ MAKOplasty surgeries. Choosing these clinics ensures precise surgery backed by proven expertise—not just fancy robots.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey praise the MAKO system for better knee alignment and quick recovery. They stress the importance of surgeon experience and clear post-op care plans, especially before returning to Australia.

How long does recovery take after MAKOplasty robotic-assisted partial knee replacement surgery in Turkey?

Recovery after MAKOplasty robotic-assisted partial knee replacement in Turkey typically involves a 4-7 day hospital stay and limited mobility for 2 weeks. Most patients resume daily activities within 2-6 weeks and may achieve full knee function in 3-6 months, with close follow-up advised.

  • Hospital stay: Usually 4-7 days for initial monitoring of international patients.
  • Early mobility: Limited movement and wound care recommended during the first 2 weeks.
  • Daily activities: Most patients return to normal activity within 2 to 6 weeks.
  • Full recovery: Knee function generally restored within 3 to 6 months post-surgery.
  • Follow-up: Packages include follow-up exams; local rehab after returning is crucial.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Turkish clinics, like Liv Hospital Ulus with surgeon Erden Erturer, treat thousands of international patients yearly and include VIP transfers and thorough follow-up exams. This reflects Turkey’s focus on monitoring recovery closely, supporting a safer early return to Australia with medical oversight.
