How Much Does Hip replacement Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Hip replacement in Turkey typically costs from AUD $14,114 to AUD $19,760. The final price depends on the surgical technique, implant brand, and whether one or both hips require surgery. Australians save approximately 51% compared to local private costs, where the procedure averages AUD $34,579. Packages usually include surgical fees, high-quality implants, hospital stays, and VIP transfers in hubs like Istanbul, Bursa, and Ankara.

  • Total hip replacement: AUD $16,937 to AUD $22,583 for standard unilateral procedures.
  • MAKOplasty total hip replacement: AUD $16,937 to AUD $26,252 using robotic-assisted precision technology.
  • Revision hip arthroplasty: AUD $19,054 to AUD $28,228 for replacing or fixing existing implants.
  • Bilateral surgery: typically adds 40–60% to the base cost compared to a single hip.
  • 3D-printed guides: custom surgical planning can add a premium but improves implant alignment accuracy.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a clinic with specific implant expertise offers the best long-term value. Some providers, such as Turan Turan Health Group, offer specialized Smith & Nephew Oxinium packages for approximately A$22,120. These high-durability options are ideal for younger, active patients. Other centers like Anadolu Medical Center maintain affiliations with Johns Hopkins Hospital, providing American-standard care at a fraction of Australian private hospital rates.

Data verified by Bookimed as of August 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 287 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

Thanks to the successful operation, I started walking without a limp almost as soon as I tried doing so without crutches
Before the operation, I was most worried about a possible difference in leg length, but now they feel exactly the same. The operation was performed via an anterior approach using a Stryker implant. A huge thank you to the wonderful doctor, Professor Olcay Güler. He is always positive, a pleasure to talk to, and uses modern techniques as well as robotic surgery for procedures like this. Direct anterior access is the best option for those who want a faster and better recovery, and there are very few specialists who use this modern method. On the 7th day after the operation, I had already started walking without crutches, even though I hadn’t rushed my recovery; the doctors do recommend walking with crutches for two weeks. Thanks to the successful operation, I started walking without a limp almost as soon as I tried doing so without crutches. I should note that I deliberately didn’t walk with just one crutch; I used both, but walked with them using the Nordic walking technique with poles. I think this also helped me avoid limping straight away. If anyone needs joint replacement surgery, I highly recommend Professor Olcay Güler and the Memorial Şişli Clinic; a good doctor is the key to a successful return to normal life. And of course, a huge thank you to the Bookimed team and personally to coordinator Sergey, who patiently selected the clinic and doctor for me! In the early stages of recovery, the hardest thing for me is getting in and out of the car. A tip for future patients: prepare comfortable trousers without elastic at the bottom in advance, slip-on shoes, and a special device for putting on compression garments and socks – a butler or glider – will also come in very handy, but only if you’re doing everything without assistance.

Thanks to the successful operation, I started walking without a limp almost immediately after trying to do so without crutches on the 7th day. There are no downsides, just one suggestion: to produce a short leaflet for the clinic’s patients setting out post-operative restrictions, initial exercises, and exercises for further rehabilitation six weeks later, when most restrictions will have been lifted.

I am very satisfied with the choice of this clinic
At the Turan Turan Clinic, I had total hip replacement surgeries on both legs almost simultaneously, two days apart. The operation was categorised as complicated. From the very first days of my stay in the clinic until my discharge I was really surrounded by sincere care and attention of the doctor and medical staff and interpreter. I was placed in a very comfortable ward with everything I needed. The interpreter and assistant in the person of Eldar did not leave me a step and helped with translation, consulted, gave useful advice and literally led me by the hand to the doctors where I was examined, from the X-ray room to the anaesthesiologist before the operation. Preparation for the operation, collection of analyses, their study and consultation with doctor Kayhan Turan took little time. Everything went promptly. The surgery was performed by the head doctor Kayhan Turan himself, who has vast experience in orthopaedic surgeries. With his light hand and high level of professionalism, the two surgeries two days apart were very easy. Smith & Nephew prostheses were fitted. Both operations were performed under spinal anaesthesia, which in my case completely eliminated the unpleasant stage of coming out of anaesthesia. I was conscious during the operations. Subsequent rehabilitation took place in a hospital ward, where special medical simulators were used along with exercises to develop the joint and vessels. I am very satisfied with the choice of this clinic.

I found the surgical staff and nurses in operating theatre to be extremely understanding and helpful. I was happy with the surgical procedure but would have liked a little more post-op feedback from the surgeon. Overall, though I was more than satisfied. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the treatment which I received from the nursing staff, especially at night, although I subsequently found out that they are very short staffed while not having at least one English speaking nurse on duty day or night.
Procedure was very good on the day of surgery. Friendly and helpful medical coordinator Friendly nurses during the day. However there was not even one English speaking nurse during every day and every night. The only means of communicating was by phone translator which became tiresome and frustrating.
There needs to be better understanding between the nursing staff and patients. Despite best efforts it all became overwhelming and frustrating. I don’t know why but it was difficult to inform the staff that I was vegetarian. Twice I needed to change the capither myself - seemingly because nurses see it below their station so need to find a nursing assistant to empty the capither bag. To summarise - the medical coordinator was extremely helpful; the care and help by surgical staff and theatre nursing staff was very good. However the treatment from many of the nurses left something to be desired.

Dr
It's now been about 1 1/2 months post surgery and I am pleased with the progress of my recovery. It seems that the implant and hip have aligned themselves nicely with the rest of the leg and foot . I can walk quite well. It seems that improving the strength in my leg will lead to greater recovery. I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism , knowledge and concern of all people involved ; especially Booki Med med coordinator Dr. Olha who exhibited limitless patience and concern for my problems. The hospital was first rate and those within, I felt, were truly concerned with my situation

Overall, we experienced great doctor and nurse care wiith an unfortumate and expensive screwup in the MRI order. I would cone back if neceasary, but be more firm with what I was ordering and paying for and what I recelved.
The eyelid surgery consult, operation and after was excellent
The MRI with contrast we ordered and paid for did not happen and my wife had to order andbpay for an extra MRI with contrast- something that should've been done at the beginning

Our Hip replacement Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Hip replacement, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Hip Arthroscopy

A minimally invasive orthopedic surgery used to diagnose and treat problems within the hip joint.

Pros: Offers quicker recovery with only 1-2 days in hospital. Minimally invasive, reducing scarring and infection risk by 30%.
Cons: Limited to specific hip issues and may not fully address severe joint damage. Not suitable for extensive joint replacement needs.
Effectiveness: Success rate of up to 85% for pain relief and improved joint function.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: 6-8 weeks
Best for: Labral tears, hip impingement, and cartilage damage. Suitable for patients under 50.

MAKOplasty

A minimally invasive orthopedic surgery technique using robotic assistance to ensure precision in partial knee or hip joint replacement.

Pros: Enhanced precision due to robotic assistance, leading to better alignment and reduced recovery time. Studies show 90% of patients experience significant pain relief.
Cons: Requires specialized equipment and trained surgeons, which may limit availability. Some patients report prolonged swelling post-surgery.
Effectiveness: Success rate is approximately 98% for knee replacements.
Duration: Typically takes 1-2 hours.
Recovery: Recovery usually spans 4-6 weeks.
Best for: Ideal for patients with localized osteoarthritis or hip joint issues. Suitable for individuals with joint instability.

FAQ about Hip replacement in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is included in typical hip replacement medical tourism packages in Turkey?

Typical hip replacement packages in Turkey include the surgery and high-grade implants like Zimmer Biomet or Stryker. They also cover 1–7 hospital nights and VIP airport-to-hotel transfers. Most bundles also cover pre-operative diagnostics like MRIs, X-rays, and pathology. They include post-operative physiotherapy and medication during the hospital stay.

  • Medical evaluations: Includes surgeon consultations, blood tests, ECGs, and specialist anaesthetist assessments.
  • Implant technology: Bundles feature FDA-cleared hardware from brands such as Smith & Nephew or Stryker.
  • Extended accommodation: Many clinics bundle 4–10 nights in a 4-star or 5-star partner hotel.
  • Concierge services: Packages provide 24-hour nursing and personal interpreters. They also offer premium vehicle transfers between locations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic packages starting at $10,000 cover unilateral surgery, bilateral procedures often exclude hotel accommodation. This helps balance higher surgical costs. Patients should prioritise clinics like Turan Turan Health Group. Their surgeons have performed 3,500+ robotic operations. This leads to higher precision for complex cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey felt walking by day 3 was possible. They suggest bringing slip-on shoes and Nordic walking poles to help regain independence. Having a dedicated interpreter and coordinator by their side makes navigating hospital wards much easier.

Are hospitals and surgeons in Turkey safe and qualified for hip replacement surgery?

Major Turkish hospitals provide safe, high-quality hip replacements. They use JCI-accredited facilities and surgeons trained in Europe or the US. Clinics use FDA-approved implants from Stryker and Zimmer Biomet. They often use MAKOplasty robotic systems to improve surgical precision and long-term joint alignment.

  • Accredited facilities: Memorial Şişli and Anadolu Medical Center hold JCI accreditation for meeting global safety standards.
  • Expert surgeons: Dr. Kayhan Turan and Dr. Sami Sokucu maintain memberships in international bodies like AAOS and EBOT.
  • Technology: Centres like Turan Turan Health Group specialise in robotic-assisted joint reconstruction for better accuracy.
  • Certified hardware: Surgeons exclusively use globally recognised brands including Smith & Nephew and Johnson & Johnson.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish orthopaedic surgeons often specialise exclusively in joint reconstruction rather than general trauma. Dr. Kayhan Turan at Turan Turan Health Group performed the country's first robotic hip replacement and has completed over 3,500 procedures. This high volume leads to more consistent outcomes compared to generalists.

Patient Consensus: Patients report starting to walk without crutches by the seventh day following robotic or anterior approach surgeries. The professional care and spinal anaesthesia made recovery easier. However, having slip-on shoes and comfortable trousers ready for discharge is recommended.

What types of hip replacement techniques are available in Turkey?

Turkish orthopaedic centres provide a range of hip replacement techniques. These include robotic-assisted surgery (MAKOplasty, NAVIO 7), minimally invasive direct anterior approaches, and complex revision arthroplasty. Specialists use international-grade implants from Stryker and Zimmer Biomet within JCI-accredited facilities for high surgical precision and faster mobilisation.

  • Robotic systems: MAKOplasty and NAVIO 7 systems provide 3D mapping for precise implant alignment.
  • Direct anterior approach: Surgeons access the joint between muscles, reducing post-operative pain and recovery time.
  • Implant variety: Clinics use high-grade titanium or ceramic prosthetics from brands like Smith & Nephew.
  • Revision surgery: Specialists reconstruct or replace failing implants using intensive bone-grafting and reconstruction techniques.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer standard replacements, Turkey's robotic surgery centres provide a distinct advantage for younger patients. Dr Kayhan Turan at Turan Turan Health Group performed the country's first robotic hip replacement and has completed 3,500+ procedures. This high volume often leads to better biomechanical placement and longer-lasting joint function.

Patient Consensus: Patients report excellent results with the direct anterior approach. They often walk without crutches within 7 days. Many appreciated the all-inclusive Turkey packages that bundle VIP transfers, nutritionist-planned meals, and 24-hour nursing care.

What is the typical recovery timeline after hip replacement surgery in Turkey?

Patients typically begin walking with assistance within 12 to 24 hours of surgery in Turkey. Most international patients spend 5 to 7 days in a JCI-accredited hospital. They then spend a week in local accommodation before flying home. Initial recovery takes 6 weeks, while full bone integration occurs over 6 to 12 months.

  • Hospital phase: Surgeons specialise in mobilising patients within 1 day to prevent blood clots.
  • Clinical stay: Standard packages include 3 to 7 days of 24-hour nursing and nutritionist-prepared meals.
  • Travel clearance: Most surgeons provide flight clearance after a 10 to 14-day wound check appointment.
  • Walking aids: Patients generally transition from walkers to canes within 2 to 4 weeks post-surgery.
  • Functional recovery: Sedentary work and driving usually resume between 6 and 12 weeks after the procedure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics such as Turan Turan Health Group often perform bilateral replacements just 2 days apart. This intensive approach allows patients to complete their primary hospital recovery for both hips. They do this in one 7-day stay. Surgeons like Dr Kayhan Turan have performed 1,000+ robotic-assisted arthroplasties using this efficient timeline.

Patient Consensus: The first week is the most demanding for pain management and sleep. By 6 weeks, most people manage daily activities independently. However, full healing often takes 12 months in Turkey.

What is typically included in an all-inclusive medical package for hip replacement in Turkey?

All-inclusive hip replacement packages in Turkey bundle surgical fees, internationally certified implants, and 3–7 days of hospitalisation. Implants typically come from brands like Stryker or Smith & Nephew. These bundles typically include VIP airport transfers and language assistance for international patients. They also cover pre-operative diagnostics, such as MRI or CT scans.

  • Medical fees: Cover orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthetists, and 24-hour nursing support during the stay.
  • Certified implants: Include ball-and-socket hardware from major brands like Zimmer Biomet or Johnson & Johnson.
  • Diagnostic tests: Bundle ECGs, chest X-rays, blood work, and specialised hip imaging before surgery.
  • Logistical support: Provides VIP private transfers between the airport, hotel, and clinic for all appointments.
  • Recovery accommodation: Often includes 4–10 days in a partner hotel or apartment for initial healing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many packages include a 5-day hospital stay, Turan Turan Health Group and similar high-volume centres often bundle 10 hotel nights. This means patients reach the 7-day milestone, where walking without crutches becomes possible. This extra recovery time is vital before a long-haul flight back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey found spinal anaesthesia made recovery easier. They appreciated having an interpreter guide them through every X-ray and consultation. Most started walking by day 3. They valued having meals and transfers pre-arranged to avoid stress.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey after hip replacement surgery?

Patients typically need to stay in Turkey for 10 to 14 days following hip replacement surgery. This includes 3 to 7 days of hospitalisation. A subsequent week of local monitoring then follows for wound healing, suture removal, and initial physical therapy to be completed before patients are cleared to fly.

  • Hospitalisation duration: Stays range from 3–5 days for unilateral and up to 7 days for bilateral procedures.
  • Fit-to-fly window: Surgeons generally issue travel clearance 10–14 days post-surgery once the initial infection risk passes.
  • Early mobility: Most patients begin walking with assistance by day 3, though crutches remain necessary for 2 weeks.
  • Follow-up checks: Packages at clinics like Turan Turan Health Group include essential post-operative care and consultations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Australian patients look for the shortest stay. However, data shows that packages with a 10-day hotel stay, like those at Turan Turan Health Group, offer better recovery outcomes. Surgeons like Dr Kayhan Turan, who has performed 3,500+ robotic surgeries, suggest this buffer allows the joint to settle, significantly reducing the risk of travel-related swelling or complications.

Patient Consensus: Recovery in Turkey often feels surprisingly quick, with some walking by day 3 and ditching crutches within a week. Patients suggest bringing slip-on shoes and loose trousers to make those first few days of moving around much easier.
