How Much Does Hip replacement Cost in India in AUD?

Hip replacement in India typically costs from AUD $6,136 to AUD $10,181. Final prices depend on the choice of ceramic or metal implants, the specific surgical technique, and the hospital location. In Australia, the average cost for this procedure is AUD $34,168, meaning patients can save approximately 76% by travelling to major Indian medical hubs like Delhi, Mumbai, or Bengaluru. Standard surgical packages often include the prosthetic implant, hospital stay, surgeon fees, and initial physiotherapy.

  • Total hip replacement: AUD $7,252 to AUD $11,854 for the standard surgical procedure.
  • Revision hip arthroplasty: AUD $11,854 to AUD $19,524 for replacing a worn or failed implant.
  • Hip arthroscopy: AUD $5,021 to AUD $8,089 for keyhole surgery to treat joint issues.
  • Minimally invasive techniques: typically add 20–30% to the base cost compared to traditional open surgery.
  • Uncemented implants: often add A$300–A$400 to the total cost due to specialised prosthesis materials.

Bookimed Expert Insight: India offers exceptional value through high-volume surgical centres. Experienced surgeons like Dr Rohan Dessai at Manipal Hospitals have managed over 1,000 hip replacements. Many JCI-accredited facilities, such as Global Hospital Chennai, use minimally invasive techniques that may reduce hospital stays. Larger networks like Apollo Hospital Indraprastha handle over 1,000,000 international patients annually. This scale allows clinics to offer advanced technology at significantly lower rates than private Australian hospitals.

Mom and I done surgery in B. L. K hospital in Delhi which was amazing experience for both of us the attention and care of the doctors and the staff help to reduce the amount of pain you feel. I noticed that bookimed just introduced me to the hospital but not active and effective enough specially in my case that is why I gave it low rating and gave full mark rating to the hospital

Our Hip replacement Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Hip replacement, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Hip Arthroscopy

A minimally invasive orthopedic surgery used to diagnose and treat problems within the hip joint.

Pros: Offers quicker recovery with only 1-2 days in hospital. Minimally invasive, reducing scarring and infection risk by 30%.
Cons: Limited to specific hip issues and may not fully address severe joint damage. Not suitable for extensive joint replacement needs.
Effectiveness: Success rate of up to 85% for pain relief and improved joint function.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: 6-8 weeks
Best for: Labral tears, hip impingement, and cartilage damage. Suitable for patients under 50.

MAKOplasty

A minimally invasive orthopedic surgery technique using robotic assistance to ensure precision in partial knee or hip joint replacement.

Pros: Enhanced precision due to robotic assistance, leading to better alignment and reduced recovery time. Studies show 90% of patients experience significant pain relief.
Cons: Requires specialized equipment and trained surgeons, which may limit availability. Some patients report prolonged swelling post-surgery.
Effectiveness: Success rate is approximately 98% for knee replacements.
Duration: Typically takes 1-2 hours.
Recovery: Recovery usually spans 4-6 weeks.
Best for: Ideal for patients with localized osteoarthritis or hip joint issues. Suitable for individuals with joint instability.
