How Much Does Total hip replacement (arthroplasty) revision Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Total hip replacement (arthroplasty) revision in Turkey typically costs from AUD $15,571 to AUD $24,365. Prices depend on implant materials, bone deficiency complexity, and whether robotic-assisted technology is required. In Australia, this procedure costs AUD $47,577 on average, meaning patients save approximately 58% by travelling. Packages often include surgeon fees, hospitalisation, airport transfers, and hotel stays. Main medical hubs for this surgery include Istanbul, Ankara, and Bursa.

  • Robotic-assisted systems: using technology like the da Vinci robot typically adds 20–30% to the cost.
  • Septic revision: cases involving infection management usually cost more due to multiple surgical stages.
  • Custom implants: 3D-printed guides or patient-specific surgical planning often carry a premium price.
  • Bursa regional pricing: surgeries in cities like Bursa may offer 15–20% savings compared to Istanbul.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a specialist with high procedural volume offers significant value for complex revisions. Dr. Erman Cekic, for example, has performed approximately 10,000 knee and hip replacements. While premium packages at Anadolu Medical Center cost about A$25,200, they provide American treatment standards via Johns Hopkins affiliation. For robotic precision, Medipol Acibadem District Hospital offers all-inclusive da Vinci robotic system packages starting around A$16,800.

Thanks to the successful operation, I started walking without a limp almost as soon as I tried doing so without crutches
Before the operation, I was most worried about a possible difference in leg length, but now they feel exactly the same. The operation was performed via an anterior approach using a Stryker implant. A huge thank you to the wonderful doctor, Professor Olcay Güler. He is always positive, a pleasure to talk to, and uses modern techniques as well as robotic surgery for procedures like this. Direct anterior access is the best option for those who want a faster and better recovery, and there are very few specialists who use this modern method. On the 7th day after the operation, I had already started walking without crutches, even though I hadn’t rushed my recovery; the doctors do recommend walking with crutches for two weeks. Thanks to the successful operation, I started walking without a limp almost as soon as I tried doing so without crutches. I should note that I deliberately didn’t walk with just one crutch; I used both, but walked with them using the Nordic walking technique with poles. I think this also helped me avoid limping straight away. If anyone needs joint replacement surgery, I highly recommend Professor Olcay Güler and the Memorial Şişli Clinic; a good doctor is the key to a successful return to normal life. And of course, a huge thank you to the Bookimed team and personally to coordinator Sergey, who patiently selected the clinic and doctor for me! In the early stages of recovery, the hardest thing for me is getting in and out of the car. A tip for future patients: prepare comfortable trousers without elastic at the bottom in advance, slip-on shoes, and a special device for putting on compression garments and socks – a butler or glider – will also come in very handy, but only if you’re doing everything without assistance.

Thanks to the successful operation, I started walking without a limp almost immediately after trying to do so without crutches on the 7th day. There are no downsides, just one suggestion: to produce a short leaflet for the clinic’s patients setting out post-operative restrictions, initial exercises, and exercises for further rehabilitation six weeks later, when most restrictions will have been lifted.

I am very satisfied with the choice of this clinic
At the Turan Turan Clinic, I had total hip replacement surgeries on both legs almost simultaneously, two days apart. The operation was categorised as complicated. From the very first days of my stay in the clinic until my discharge I was really surrounded by sincere care and attention of the doctor and medical staff and interpreter. I was placed in a very comfortable ward with everything I needed. The interpreter and assistant in the person of Eldar did not leave me a step and helped with translation, consulted, gave useful advice and literally led me by the hand to the doctors where I was examined, from the X-ray room to the anaesthesiologist before the operation. Preparation for the operation, collection of analyses, their study and consultation with doctor Kayhan Turan took little time. Everything went promptly. The surgery was performed by the head doctor Kayhan Turan himself, who has vast experience in orthopaedic surgeries. With his light hand and high level of professionalism, the two surgeries two days apart were very easy. Smith & Nephew prostheses were fitted. Both operations were performed under spinal anaesthesia, which in my case completely eliminated the unpleasant stage of coming out of anaesthesia. I was conscious during the operations. Subsequent rehabilitation took place in a hospital ward, where special medical simulators were used along with exercises to develop the joint and vessels. I am very satisfied with the choice of this clinic.

I found the surgical staff and nurses in operating theatre to be extremely understanding and helpful. I was happy with the surgical procedure but would have liked a little more post-op feedback from the surgeon. Overall, though I was more than satisfied. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the treatment which I received from the nursing staff, especially at night, although I subsequently found out that they are very short staffed while not having at least one English speaking nurse on duty day or night.
Procedure was very good on the day of surgery. Friendly and helpful medical coordinator Friendly nurses during the day. However there was not even one English speaking nurse during every day and every night. The only means of communicating was by phone translator which became tiresome and frustrating.
There needs to be better understanding between the nursing staff and patients. Despite best efforts it all became overwhelming and frustrating. I don’t know why but it was difficult to inform the staff that I was vegetarian. Twice I needed to change the capither myself - seemingly because nurses see it below their station so need to find a nursing assistant to empty the capither bag. To summarise - the medical coordinator was extremely helpful; the care and help by surgical staff and theatre nursing staff was very good. However the treatment from many of the nurses left something to be desired.

Dr
It's now been about 1 1/2 months post surgery and I am pleased with the progress of my recovery. It seems that the implant and hip have aligned themselves nicely with the rest of the leg and foot . I can walk quite well. It seems that improving the strength in my leg will lead to greater recovery. I was pleasantly surprised by the professionalism , knowledge and concern of all people involved ; especially Booki Med med coordinator Dr. Olha who exhibited limitless patience and concern for my problems. The hospital was first rate and those within, I felt, were truly concerned with my situation

FAQ about Total hip replacement (arthroplasty) revision in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is revision hip replacement surgery in Turkey safe?

Revision hip replacement in Turkey is a safe option for Australian patients. This is true when performed at JCI-accredited facilities using robotic technology. Leading Turkish centres maintain 95% success rates for complex joint revisions. They use safety protocols including 3D-planned surgical guides and premium dual-mobility cup implants from brands like Smith & Nephew.

  • Accredited facilities: Multi-specialty hospitals like Memorial Sisli hold JCI and ISO certifications.
  • Expert specialists: Surgeons such as Dr Erman Cekic have performed 10,000+ joint procedures.
  • Surgical systems: Centres use MAKOplasty and da Vinci robotic systems for precision.
  • In-hospital support: All-inclusive packages often include 2-5 nights of 24-hour nursing care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows Turkey is a global leader for these revisions. It serves 2,340+ patients annually. Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center maintain American treatment standards through Johns Hopkins affiliations. Choosing a dedicated robotic orthopaedic centre like Turan Turan provides access to dual-mobility implants. These significantly reduce dislocation risks in complex revision cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey value receiving full implant documentation and operative plans before travelling home. Many recommend finding an Australian GP for follow-up care. They also note that interpreters make clinical discussions clear and stress-free.

What is the success rate of a total hip replacement (arthroplasty) revision in Turkey?

Turkish orthopaedic centres report success rates exceeding 95% for total hip revision surgery. Most patients achieve significant pain relief and improved mobility. High success stems from Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited facilities and robotic technologies.

  • Success rates: Over 95% of patients report successful outcomes after complex revision procedures.
  • Pain relief: More than 90% of patients experience significant reduction in chronic hip pain.
  • Robotic precision: Surgeons use MAKOplasty and da Vinci systems for accurate implant positioning.
  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Erman Cekic have performed approximately 10,000 hip and knee surgeries.
  • 3D planning: Specialist centres use 3D-printed guides for complex cases at Professor Gemalmaz's clinic.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Overall success remains high. Turkish clinics specialising in revision cases often maintain higher volumes than Western counterparts. At Turan Turan Health Group, surgeons handle 18,000+ patients annually. This massive case volume allows surgeons to master complications like implant loosening or infection. We recommend choosing clinics affiliated with institutions like Johns Hopkins for US-aligned safety protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients travelling to Turkey for revision surgery prioritise surgical experience over the lowest price. Success often depends on detailed post-operative documentation for smooth follow-up care in Australia.

Why might I require a revision for a total hip replacement in Turkey?

Turkish specialists use 3D patient-specific planning and robotic systems like MAKOplasty to fix complex bone loss. Revision for a total hip replacement in Turkey is required when an initial implant fails. This often happens due to infection, loosening, or component wear. Surgeons use these tools to treat recurrent dislocation and fractures while restoring mobility.

  • Infection management: Surgeons treat implant detachment caused by bacteria using specialised antibiotic protocols and revision.
  • Aseptic loosening: Components that wear down over time are replaced with high-quality materials.
  • Recurrent dislocation: Adjustments to implant positioning stop the joint from repeatedly coming out.
  • Bone integration: 3D-printed surgical guides help fix fractures and manage bone loss around implants.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centres like Turan Turan Health Group often use the Smith & Nephew Dual-Mobile cup for revisions. This specific implant lowers the risk of dislocation in complex secondary surgeries. Checking for these brands beforehand helps ensure the long-term durability of the revision.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey highlight the importance of staged rehabilitation to prevent early instability. They suggest arranging Australian GP follow-up and securing full operative notes in English before flying home.

What is the recovery timeline for a total hip replacement revision in Turkey?

Full recovery for a total hip replacement revision in Turkey typically takes 6 to 12 months. Patients usually stay in hospital for 2 to 5 days. Initial mobilisation starts within 24 hours. Most individuals return to low-impact activities within 12 weeks of their procedure.

  • Hospital stay: Patients spend 2 to 5 days in JCI-accredited facilities for monitoring.
  • Initial mobility: Walking with assistance starts within 24 hours to prevent blood clots.
  • Walking aid: Patients often transition from walkers to canes between weeks 2 and 6.
  • Flight safety: Surgeons recommend staying in Turkey for 2 to 3 weeks before flying.
  • Full recovery: Muscle strength and maximum joint function are usually regained by 12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Revision recovery varies significantly based on complexity. A simple component exchange has a shorter timeline than reconstruction involving bone grafts. High-volume centres like Turan Turan Health Group use dual-mobile cup implants. These increase stability and reduce the risk of future dislocations.

Patient Consensus: The first 6 weeks are the most challenging due to swelling and weight-bearing limits. Turkish clinics provide intensive initial rehab. However, arranged support at home in Australia is essential for several weeks after returning.

How long should I organise to stay in Turkey for a total hip replacement revision?

Organise a stay in Turkey of at least 14 to 21 days for a total hip replacement revision. This allows for 2 to 5 days of hospitalisation. It also covers follow-up appointments to monitor wound healing before your flight back to Australia.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 2–5 nights at clinics like Turan Turan Health Group for monitoring.
  • Initial mobilisation: Most patients begin walking with aids 14–21 days after complex revision surgery.
  • Clinical clearance: Surgeons typically remove sutures and check for infection 10–14 days post-operation.
  • Travel safety: Waiting 3 weeks reduces risks of wound complications or clots on long flights.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Revision packages in Turkey vary in hospital stay duration. Selecting a package with at least 4–5 nights in hospital, such as those at Turan Turan Health Group, provides better access to 24-hour nursing.

Patient Consensus: Turkish clinics provide comprehensive post-op care. However, patients recommend a 3-week stay to ensure independent mobility. Having written instructions and a local GP ready in Australia makes the long journey home much safer.

Which hospitals in Turkey are recommended for total hip replacement revision?

Recommended hospitals for total hip replacement revision in Turkey include Anadolu Medical Center, Turan Turan Health Group, and Medipol Acibadem District Hospital. These JCI-accredited facilities specialise in complex reconstructions. They use technologies like the MAKO robotics system and Smith & Nephew Dual-Mobile CUP implants.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital, offering American standards and US-trained surgeons.
  • Turan Turan Health: Focuses on robotic orthopaedics and uses premium dual-mobile cup revision techniques.
  • Medipol Acibadem District: Features da Vinci robotic-assisted systems for high-precision implant positioning and removal.
  • Istinye University Hospital: Provides MAKOplasty options designed for complex joint replacement and revision.
  • 3D-Patient Specific Clinic: Offers CAD-assisted planning and 3D-printed surgical guides for severe bone loss.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows revision success often hinges on pre-surgical planning for bone loss. Prof. Dr. Halil Can Gemalmaz in Istanbul uses 3D-printed guides for these complex cases. Turan Turan Health serves 18,000+ patients annually. Choosing a specialist with CAD-assisted technology can improve implant stability in difficult revisions.

Patient Consensus: For complex revision surgery in Turkey, patients suggest selecting tertiary hospitals. These hospitals should explicitly document their experience with implant removal and bone loss. They value clinics providing a clear surgical plan and direct communication with surgeons.
