The good news came quickly: the results showed that my calcium levels were slightly low but did not require surgery at this stage
What I would say to a friend considering this procedure is to make sure they have a thorough blood test beforehand. As for me, everything was very straightforward. The surgeon gave me a very clear explanation of the glands that needed to be treated, which put me at ease. The good news came quickly: the results showed that my calcium levels were slightly low but did not require surgery at this stage. I was given basic instructions for the next steps. Regarding my concerns about bone density, we decided that this is something to monitor later, which makes sense at this stage. I will come for a check-up in six months

To be honest, if a friend asked me, I wouldn’t recommend this treatment. It’s been 15 days, and so far the results have been rather modest — my blood sugar levels have improved slightly, but that’s about it. The clinic itself deserves high praise; everything is very modern and clean. However, the work of the doctor and staff left a mediocre impression. When I asked questions, time was limited, and I didn’t manage to ask everything I wanted to; the doctor simply said, ‘If you like, come back tomorrow.’ The consultation lasted a mere 15 minutes. The transfer services were very poorly organised, with issues regarding punctuality, constant waiting and frequent changes of interpreters. Perhaps there will be improvements to the treatment in the future. Overall, I got the impression that the hospital’s primary concern is simply making money, and everything else is of secondary importance.

Liv hospital is a terrible clinic! We were very disappointed, it’s good that they went to the memorial on time from there and didn’t perform the operation on my grandfather, conducted an examination in another clinic where they began to fully deal with him and sort out his problem with a council of doctors, in Livonia we just shouted that the situation was an emergency and it was necessary urgently to take action and just wanted to put on the operation the next day without looking at the tests and the like !!!!

Diagnostics is at the level, but you will not receive a conclusion and diagnosis, there will also be problems with translation into Russian, you will not wait for them. The clinic is not interested in treating you, it is possible to operate, there is no medication.

I am now trying to go on a medical trip again. The new system sucks. When you enter your phone number you have to receive a verification code to do a request. I didn't receive any code. I talked to the operator. They stringed me allong for almost a week, promising that the medical coordinator would contact me. Nothing happened. I am sick and they are truly not helpfull at all. Terribly !!@

For the first time in a really long time, I feel cared for by a doctor and their staff!
The doctor and the video consultations’ moderator (who also is my coordinator) are so patient, helpful, understanding, accommodating, and trustworthy. For the first time in a really long time, I feel cared for by a doctor and their staff! I would recommend this platform and this hospital to anyone who needed treatment!
I really did appreciate that. My doctor allowed me to speak uninterrupted and listened attentively.
The connection quality of the video consultation was a little bit choppy, but that could very well have been from my own Internet. I would not be quick to assign blame to the hospital and their computer or Wi-Fi.

My stay was excellent in all aspects, the room was comfortable and appropriate, the staff were very cooperative, the treatment felt that I benefited from it from the first day, although I went to several clinics in Germany, the Czech Republic and Hungary, but Nobel is more practical and serious in the matter of treatment

The trip gave a positive result
We were diagnosed in Medical Park. We paid attention to the high level of medicine in Turkey and modern equipment, which is important for the correct diagnosis. The diagnosis was made in Kiev. The friendly attitude of the medical staff of the clinic, the round-the-clock support and assistance of Bookimed coordinator Lisa Dudnik, the support of the coordinators of the clinic made our stay at the clinic comfortable. The attending physician Veysel Kydyr helps us in correction of treatment and after returning home. Many thanks to Bookimed for the work done. The trip gave a positive result. We have a wish - clinic to make translations of medical documentation in a shorter period, and our medicine to rise to such a level that our loved ones receive medical care at the proper level in their country.

FAQ about Endocrinology in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are endocrinologists and clinics in Turkey internationally accredited?

Leading Turkish endocrinology clinics and specialists hold prestigious international accreditations such as JCI and ISO certifications. Major networks like Memorial Healthcare Group and Hisar Hospital Intercontinental maintain these global standards. Many specialists also possess European Board credentials and training from top international medical institutions.

  • JCI accreditation: Memorial Şişli was the first in Turkey to earn this high global standard.
  • Institutional partnerships: Anadolu Medical Center maintains a formal affiliation with Johns Hopkins Hospital.
  • Specialist certification: Dr Nuri Alper Sahbaz is one of few surgeons with European Board qualification.
  • Quality standards: Large facilities such as VM Medical Park Florya hold ISO quality management certifications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: A high hospital rating does not always guarantee a board-certified specialist in every subfield. For complex endocrine cases, patients should look for doctors like those at Hisar Hospital. These specialists often hold both academic professorships and international fellowships. This dual track keeps them current on global clinical trials and ensures high surgical safety standards.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey often praise the modern diagnostic equipment and friendly staff. They note that clear explanations and thorough blood tests are vital for a comfortable experience.

How is medical aftercare managed for Australian patients once they return from Turkey?

Australian patients returning from Turkey manage endocrinology aftercare through local GPs and remote digital consultations. Clinics like Anadolu Medical Center provide English discharge summaries and personal coordinators. This provides continuity for treatments like radioiodine therapy or complex thyroid surgery after returning home.

  • Clinical handover: Patients receive English documentation covering diagnoses, medication doses, and operative notes.
  • Remote monitoring: Turkish specialists often offer virtual check-ins via messaging for routine recovery tracking.
  • Local coordination: Australian GPs traditionally manage ongoing pathology, repeat blood tests, and hormone prescriptions.
  • JCI standards: Accredited Istanbul clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental maintain international-standard medical records.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows clinics with 1,000,000+ annual patients, like Medipol Mega University Hospital, use high-volume diagnostic systems. This scale often means more detailed baseline data for an Australian GP. Having high-resolution results simplifies the transition for local specialists re-authorising hormone replacement protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report that having a dedicated coordinator makes the handover smoother. These staff help translate gland treatments into clear instructions for the return home. Patients also suggest getting full blood test results before leaving to avoid repeating pathology.

What specific endocrine and metabolic disorders do Turkish hospitals treat?

Turkish hospitals treat many endocrine and metabolic disorders. These include type 1 and type 2 diabetes, thyroid cancers, and pituitary adenomas. Specialists use metabolic surgery and radioiodine therapy to manage hormonal imbalances and chronic conditions in JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Thyroid disorders: Surgeons like Associate Professor Nuri Alper Sahbaz perform thyroidectomies for goitres and malignancies.
  • Diabetes management: Clinics offer intensive care for glucose metabolism via stem cell therapy or bariatric surgery.
  • Pituitary conditions: Specialists use minimally invasive techniques to treat adenomas affecting growth and hormonal regulation.
  • Paediatric endocrinology: Experts like Professor Bulent Hacimeoglu treat growth disorders and puberty issues in children.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish endocrinology departments often combine diagnostic check-ups with same-day hormonal blood profiles. JCI-accredited centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental and Memorial Şişli maintain on-site labs. This allows specialists to adjust treatment plans within 24 hours. This speed is a significant advantage for international patients with limited travel time.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey value the clear explanations provided by surgeons regarding gland treatments and hormonal health. They note that the modern facilities and helpful coordinators make complex diagnostic processes feel straightforward and manageable.

Is paediatric endocrinology available for children travelling to Turkey?

Paediatric endocrinology is widely available in Turkey through units in JCI-accredited hospitals. These centres treat youth up to 18 years for juvenile diabetes and growth disorders. They also treat thyroid diseases. Facilities in Istanbul and Antalya provide dedicated paediatric teams with academic specialists and interpreters.

  • Expert specialists: Associate Professor Gonul Catli at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul specialises in paediatric obesity and diabetes.
  • Academic leadership: Professor Bulent Hacimeoglu leads the paediatric department at Istanbul Aydin University hospital.
  • Certified facilities: Lokman Hekim Istanbul Hospital is JCI-accredited and serves paediatric patients.
  • Comprehensive testing: Clinics provide paediatric check-ups and hormonal blood tests for children and adolescents.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Turkish hospitals have endocrinology departments. However, centres like Liv Hospital Vadistanbul employ specialists with PhDs in paediatric endocrinology. These doctors focus exclusively on children rather than treating adults. Patients should choose these sub-specialists for complex cases like growth hormone therapy.

Patient Consensus: Families in Turkey find the medical staff patient and accommodating. They often feel well cared for during consultations. Bringing growth charts and records helps specialists provide clear treatment plans during the visit.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for endocrine evaluation or surgery?

Patients typically stay in Turkey for 1 to 3 days for endocrine evaluations. Surgery usually requires 5 to 10 days. Total time depends on whether the visit involves outpatient diagnostics or surgical procedures like a thyroidectomy.

  • Diagnostic stay: Plan for 1–3 days for blood panels and ultrasounds.
  • Minor surgery timeline: Requires 5–7 days for monitoring calcium levels after surgery.
  • Major surgical cases: Allow 7–10 days for drain removal and flight clearance.
  • Recovery period: Spend 1–2 nights in wards linked to the theatre before hotel discharge.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish endocrine centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental often use on-site labs. They deliver hormonal profile results within hours. This efficiency can reduces a diagnostic trip to a single overnight stay.

Patient Consensus: Patients find Turkey's modern equipment and clear specialist explanations helpful. They suggest allowing extra time for in-person test reviews. Always confirm fit-to-fly criteria with the medical team before booking return flights.

Will the medical staff and doctors at Turkish hospitals speak English?

Specialist doctors at major private Turkish hospitals typically speak fluent English. Many endocrinologists have completed fellowships in the US or Europe. Support staff and nurses may have limited proficiency. Clinics solve this by providing personal interpreters and international coordinators to manage all appointments and documents.

  • Expert endocrinologists: Professionals like Assoc. Prof. Dr Nuri Alper Sahbaz hold US medical licences.
  • International coordination: Centres like Anadolu Medical Center provide personal interpreters for all patient appointments.
  • Global credentials: Major facilities like Memorial Şişli Hospital hold JCI accreditation for safety standards.
  • Language support: Leading clinics offer consultations in English for international endocrinology patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics with high international volumes often hire specialists who studied in English. This includes hospitals like Memorial and Anadolu. These doctors frequently publish in international journals. This background means they can explain complex endocrine results in plain English. Clear communication is vital for long-term health management.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that doctors explain conditions clearly. However, an interpreter helps with paperwork and nursing care. In Turkish hospitals, modern facilities and patient coordinators make the experience straightforward. This helps bridge any minor language gaps.
