I am now trying to go on a medical trip again. The new system sucks. When you enter your phone number you have to receive a verification code to do a request. I didn't receive any code. I talked to the operator. They stringed me allong for almost a week, promising that the medical coordinator would contact me. Nothing happened. I am sick and they are truly not helpfull at all. Terribly !!@

Expert Overview about Autoimmune thyroiditis Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Do I need surgery for autoimmune thyroiditis in Turkey?

Surgery for autoimmune thyroiditis in Turkey is rarely necessary. It is only recommended for complications like large goitres or suspicious nodules. Most patients manage the condition through hormone replacement therapy or radioiodine treatment at JCI-accredited facilities. Turkish specialists prioritise conservative medical management over surgical intervention.

  • Surgical criteria: Doctors suggest thyroidectomy only for breathing issues, swallowing difficulty, or suspected cancer.
  • Hormone management: Specialists like Prof. Dr Suleyman Hilmi Ipekci focus on balancing hormone levels medically.
  • Radioiodine therapy: Clinics like Hisar Hospital offer targeted iodine-131 treatments starting from A$4,600.
  • Specialist expertise: Dr Nuri Alper Sahbaz is one of few surgeons with European Board certification.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgery is rare. However, patients with structural complications benefit from Turkey's high concentration of nuclear medicine experts. For instance, Dr Kezban Berberoglu at Anadolu Medical Center trained at Johns Hopkins. Her top-tier diagnostic accuracy can often prevent unnecessary surgery through precise radioiodine mapping.

Patient Consensus: Patients emphasise that surgery addresses physical pressure from large nodules. However, it does not cure the underlying autoimmune process. Many recommend preserving the thyroid whenever possible. They note that autoimmune flare-ups can continue even after the gland is removed in Turkey.
