"At the end, I wish to thank the Bookimed team for all the effort and the help I had for making the consultation happened successfully
The hospital is very modern in building and very organised since arrival you will have someone from the administration to assist in registration and then will take you to the clinic where your appointment is scheduled. Waiting time is reasonable, it is always expected to wait sometimes after your scheduled time to see the Doctor. In my case, I think I should have taken an appointment from first day to directly see the surgeon and not the endocrinologist. Do two days had been spent with the endocrinologist to repeat exactly the same procedure that I had completed in Bahrain, ie repeating the ultrasound which became in result exactly as a replica of the report done in Bahrain. One test was done new which was the anti thyroid plus vitamin D which I thought unnecessary. I do not know! . Any way after meeting again the endocrinologist with results of ultrasound and lab test results, she decided to refer me to the ENT surgeon who saw the ultrasound taken at Bumrungrad Hospital Nd my local hospital plus the biopsy reports and recommended operation to remove the the right thyroid node and if found being cancerous then again tho remove the left side node, A period of two weeks was advised for operation and follow up. I asked for an estimate then I was given a rough estimate for an operation which is probably three times the total cost of the operation in Bahrain, and their estimate did not cover pre operation procedure, not the admission cost , not the follow up visits changes neither the medicine. In conclusion, in my particular case I found my self to probably to be spending 8 times the cost if am going to do the same treatment I bahrain. At the end , I wish to thank the Bookimed treat for all the effort and the help I had for making the consultation happened successfully. From the bottom of my heart big THANKS to all and I wish you a good luck. Yours , Hameed Zuhair

I would like to thank him for his effort and sensitivity
The doctor proposed a different medication for my diabetes 2. He proposed blood test and package what I found was not useful since I had a blood test on which he base is prescription of last year. Also the medication that he suggested I can find it much cheaper outside of the hospital.

The hospital environment is very nice, and the staff very friendly
The hospital environment is very nice, and the staff very friendly. The doctor on the other hand was rather aggressive and needs to learn some better manners. She really made me feel uncomfortable and wasn't that helpful, I am sure she is very knowledgeable but I dont think I will return.

FAQ about Endocrinology in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are Thai endocrinologists and hospital facilities internationally certified for endocrine treatments?

Leading Thai endocrinologists and private hospitals hold prestigious international certifications. JCI accreditation at major centres like Bumrungrad International Hospital and Navamin 9 Hospital meets global safety standards. Specialists often hold dual Thai and UK or US board certifications. This guarantees clinical expertise for complex hormone and metabolic treatments.

  • Hospital accreditation: Bumrungrad International Hospital holds JCI, GHA, and ISO certifications regularly used by Australians.
  • Clinical recognition: Thai facilities appear in Newsweek lists for the world's best specialised hospitals.
  • Doctor credentials: Dr Anyarat Vichayawannakul at Intrarat Hospital holds diplomas in endocrinology and metabolism.
  • Dual licensure: Specialists like UK-trained Dr Donna Robinson hold medical licences in both Thailand and Britain.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai medical facilities often specialise in specific endocrine pathways to gain global recognition. While many clinics offer general hormone care, hospitals like Navamin 9 Hospital use JCI-standard management protocols. This approach provides the same procedural safety and diagnostic rigour found in major Australian tertiary hospitals.

Patient Consensus: Patients find Thai hospitals modern and organised. This helps them feel comfortable and well-guided throughout their treatment in Thailand. They highlight the value of receiving detailed ultrasound reports and new lab tests that confirm complex diagnoses.

Can I effectively manage chronic conditions like Type 1 Diabetes during a medical trip to Thailand?

Managing Type 1 Diabetes in Thailand is effective. Accredited hospitals like Bumrungrad International Hospital and Navamin 9 Hospital maintain high standards. Specialist endocrinologists such as Dr Sarat Sunthornyothin provide expert care. Modern insulin and glucose monitoring technologies are widely available in private facilities.

  • Specialist expertise: Dr Anyarat Vichayawannakul specialises in endocrinology and metabolism at Intrarat Hospital.
  • Quality care: JCI-accredited facilities such as Navamin 9 Hospital follow international safety standards.
  • Specialised therapy: Stem cell treatments for diabetes are available at clinics like Vega.
  • Volume experience: Bumrungrad International Hospital treats 1,000,000 patients annually. This includes 500,000 international visitors.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai medical centres often house multiple specialists under one roof. At hospitals like Bumrungrad, an endocrinologist can coordinate immediately with surgeons or dietitians. This model means patients complete diagnostics and consultations in one day. This efficiency is vital for travellers managing complex insulin schedules.

Patient Consensus: Patients find the modern hospital environments and friendly staff helpful. Many note that hospital pharmacies are convenient. However, basic medications can often be found cheaper elsewhere in Bangkok.

Will language barriers impact my endocrine medical consultation in Thailand?

Language barriers do not significantly affect endocrine consultations in Thailand. This is because major private hospitals employ doctors with international backgrounds. Specialist endocrinologists and general practitioners frequently hold medical licences or fellowships from the UK, US, or Australia. Clinical documentation and lab results are provided in English.

  • Bilingual staff: Facilities like Siam Clinic Phuket employ fully bilingual Thai-English teams to assist patients.
  • Expert credentials: Dr Donna Robinson at MedConsult holds UK and Thai medical licences for consultations.
  • International standards: Hospitals such as Bumrungrad and Navamin 9 hold JCI accreditation for patient safety.
  • Specialist communication: Doctors like Dr Parischamon Samilang at PrimeCare Bkk provide wellness care in English.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Major hospitals handle high patient volumes. However, clinics like Vega Clinic explicitly attract Australian patients for regenerative endocrine therapies. These centres often include airport-to-clinic transfers in their packages. This helps prevent local logistics from becoming a communication hurdle before the consultation begins.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that organised administrators assist with registration and guide individuals through every department. Recent medical records should be brought along. This helps the specialist understand the symptom timeline during the appointment in Thailand.

How long should I plan to stay in Thailand for an endocrine treatment cycle?

Patients should plan to stay in Thailand for 10 to 14 days for most endocrine cycles. Complex procedures like stem cell therapy for diabetes or surgical thyroid treatments often need 14 to 21 days. This allows time for blood panels, specialist consultations, and monitoring.

  • Non-surgical stays: Plan 7–10 days for hormone mapping and dose adjustments.
  • Surgical recovery: Allow 14–21 days for thyroidectomy or pituitary gland procedures.
  • Regenerative treatment: Stem cell protocols often include 3–12 days of hospitalisation.
  • Chronic care: Diabetic wound treatments may require staying for 20–45 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Vega Clinic or Panacee Hospital often structure packages for international patients with specific recovery windows. Treatment may only take a few days. However, medical teams recommend an additional 7–14 days in a local hotel. This allows for vital follow-up checks before the flight home.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that staying about a week even for simple consultations allows enough time for labs. Including buffer days in Thailand ensures all results are reviewed and medications are adjusted before departure.

What medical travel paperwork is required to clear entry into Thailand for endocrine care?

To clear entry into Thailand for endocrine care, Australians must present an official hospital letter of confirmation. They also need a valid passport with six months validity and proof of flights. Hormone therapy patients must secure a Thai FDA medication permit before boarding for specific controlled substances.

  • Letter of confirmation: Must show full name, passport number, and treatment plan from a licensed facility.
  • Medication permit: Online Thai FDA approval is required for carrying Category 2 narcotic endocrine drugs.
  • Original packaging: Keep all hormones, steroids, or insulin in original boxes with clear pharmacy labels.
  • Physician referral: Carry a letter from an Australian GP justifying travel for specialist endocrine care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics like Vega Clinic and Bumrungrad International Hospital serve thousands of international patients annually. They often provide services for Australians. While many focus on medical documentation, delays often happen due to missing pharmacy invoices. These must align exactly with the physical quantity of medication in your luggage.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it is essential to carry a concise medical summary. All medicines should stay in original packaging. Those travelling to Thailand for endocrine treatment suggest bringing a list of generic names and dosages. This simplifies customs and local consultations.
