Australians often save around 43% compared to local private costs, which average AUD $29,657. The surgeon and the medical team were brilliant and explained everything to me, which put me at ease
My biggest concern was the procedure itself and the potential side effects. Fortunately, the surgeon and the medical team were brilliant and explained everything to me, which put me at ease. It has now been 15 days since my umbilical cord stem cell treatment. To be honest, I haven’t noticed any changes yet, which is to be expected at this early stage. There is still some pain when I touch the injection site. I’ve been sticking to the post-treatment restrictions most of the time, and the clinic itself was good but not entirely modern, which is why I’ve given it four stars. Overall, it was a good experience and now I just need to be patient.

May the peace and mercy of God be with you. As a great program, the people who use it are great. The answer is excellent, but the last time was through MC Hospital Türkiye. The translator is a man named Issa. It is very weak in translation and does not translate. Why is this from the words of the doctor? Because the doctor spoke for a long time, and the translation was short, so there was a lot of things. It does not translate for me, and it did not benefit me at all, and the examination didn't help, doctor

Overall, a great experience!!
I was very skeptical doing this and especially in another country. The staff did a great job with getting everything lined up. Dr. Gurkan was great, all staff was very good and attentive. I would just ask for a little more information on the process and the timeline for treatments to work, etc. Overall, a great experience!!
Everything was ready when we got there. Great hotel. Staff was great.
Language barrier was a little difficult. I would have preferred one assistant the entire time and not so many. Little better communication and information beforehand as to process and procedures.
About Bookimed service
I never knew who I was communicating with. Change in pricing agreement was difficult. Had to pay extra for treatment and TDCS therapy which was agreed to in our original discussions.

FAQ about Diabetes mellitus treatment with stem cells in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is stem cell therapy for diabetes mellitus legal and regulated in Turkey?

Stem cell therapy for diabetes is legal and strictly regulated in Turkey by the Ministry of Health. Treatment occurs within a controlled framework using autologous or allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells. Facilities must hold Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification. They also need specific International Health Tourism Authorisation to treat overseas patients.

  • Regulatory authority: The Turkish Medicines and Medical Devices Agency governs all regenerative medicine applications.
  • Permitted cells: Clinics use adult stem cells from adipose tissue or bone marrow source.
  • Prohibited types: Embryonic stem cell use remains strictly forbidden under ethical and legal frameworks.
  • Facility standards: Laboratories must be licensed tissue centres adhering to international GMP quality standards.
  • Legal status: The treatment is investigative and requires formal informed consent and risk disclosure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many centres offer regenerative therapies, only a few hold the International Health Tourism Authorization Certificate (001). Emsey Hospital is one such facility. Patients should prioritise these early-certified facilities. They underwent the first wave of rigorous government inspections for safety and hygiene protocols.

Patient Consensus: Patients find Turkey a practical destination. Local laws there allow lab processing restricted in other countries. People highlight the importance of asking for the exact cell source. They also suggest verifying if the clinic follows registered clinical trial protocols.

Which types of diabetes mellitus can be treated with stem cell therapy in Turkey?

Turkish clinics offer stem cell therapy for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. These procedures typically target autoimmune modulation in Type 1 patients. They also address insulin resistance or beta-cell depletion in Type 2 patients. Treatment is provided at JCI-accredited centres like Memorial Sisli Hospital and Emsey Hospital in Istanbul.

  • Technique focus: Mesenchymal stem cells aim to protect pancreatic beta cells and support tissue repair.
  • Type 1 goal: Modulating the immune response to reduce insulin dependency or preserve islet function.
  • Type 2 goal: Improving insulin sensitivity and lowering HbA1c levels to manage metabolic damage.
  • Clinical status: Offered as experimental therapy or private cash-pay procedures at specialised regenerative centres.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics offer general stem cell therapy. However, Australian patients should look for endocrinology specialists like Dr Mehmet Fatih Kilicli. His dual-specialisation in endocrinology and stem cell protocols means the treatment addresses metabolic needs. It doesn't just focus on cell injection. Data shows that high-volume centres provide the necessary multidisciplinary support for complex diabetic cases. Memorial Healthcare Group, for example, serves 1.6 million patients annually.

Patient Consensus: Patients often explore Turkey for Type 1 diabetes. They aim to replace beta cells and reduce insulin reliance. The focus is on achieving temporary insulin independence or improved glucose control. They do not expect a permanent cure.

What kind of recovery or results can patients expect after stem cell therapy for diabetes mellitus in Turkey?

Patients typically experience a mild recovery with minimal downtime after stem cell therapy in Turkey. It is not a permanent cure. Many, however, achieve better glucose control and reduced insulin needs within 3 to 12 months. Specialists like Dr Mehmet Fatih Kilicli at Medipol Acibadem District Hospital focus on metabolic disorders. They also specialise in regenerative protocols.

  • Immediate recovery: Most patients return to normal daily routines within 1 to 2 days.
  • Clinical results: Improvements in HbA1c levels and insulin sensitivity usually appear around month 3.
  • Treatment types: Clinics like You Clinic specialise in mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) applications.
  • Follow-up care: Type 1 cases may require ongoing monitoring and possible immunosuppressive medication.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics across Turkey offer stem cell therapy. Focusing on JCI-accredited clinics ensures higher safety standards. Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital maintains 99% success rates in complex transplants within its group. This suggests their cell-handling protocols are likely more robust. They outperform those of smaller, non-accredited boutique clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey often see gradual improvements in blood sugar stability. A total reversal is uncommon. They find the process straightforward. However, they suggest requesting objective C-peptide and HbA1c data before booking.

How does stem cell therapy work for treating diabetes mellitus in Turkey?

Stem cell therapy in Turkey for diabetes mellitus uses mesenchymal stem cells to target systemic inflammation and repair vascular damage. Specialist clinics in Istanbul and Antalya deliver cells via intravenous infusion or targeted injection. The goal is to improve metabolic function and reduce insulin resistance in Type 2 cases.

  • Cell sourcing: Clinics use autologous cells from fat tissue or allogeneic umbilical cord-derived cells.
  • Treatment centres: Major JCI-accredited networks like Memorial Healthcare Group specialise in complex endocrine protocols.
  • Clinical oversight: Specialists such as Dr Mehmet Fatih Kilicli coordinate therapy within advanced metabolic departments.
  • Patient logistics: Packages typically include airport transfers, interpreters, and 5-star accommodation near the hospital.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a clear preference for Istanbul-based centres like Emsey Hospital. Emsey holds a Ministry of Health authorisation for international medical tourism. Costs range from $12,000 to $24,000. The 14% saving over Australian averages often covers the cost of VIP transfers and 5-star guest house stays.

Patient Consensus: Patients travelling to Turkey suggest confirming if the protocol uses Good Manufacturing Practice standards for cell preparation. Experience shows that insulin needs may decrease. Even so, ongoing monitoring with a local GP after returning to Australia is essential.

What do treatment packages for stem cell therapy for diabetes mellitus in Turkey typically include?

Diabetes stem cell packages in Turkey typically bundle hospital treatment with travel logistics. They cost A$16,600 to A$33,100. Standard inclusions cover mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy, endocrinology consultations, and pre-treatment metabolic blood tests. They also include VIP airport transfers and interpreter services. These are provided at JCI-accredited facilities in Istanbul or Antalya.

  • Diagnostic phase: Includes Comprehensive Metabolic Panels, HbA1c tests, and specialist endocrinology evaluations.
  • Cell processing: Features laboratory isolation and culturing of stem cells adhering to GMP standards.
  • Clinical delivery: Covers intravenous (IV) infusion or targeted injections performed by experienced specialists.
  • Logistics bundle: Provides private airport-to-clinic transfers and accommodation in partnered 4 or 5-star hotels.
  • Support services: Includes personal medical coordinators and dedicated translators for all clinical appointments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Australian costs average $21,000, Turkey offers a 43% saving with higher clinical capacity. Major centres like Emsey Hospital integrate stem cell therapy within large-scale bone marrow units. This provides patients with access to cell-processing infrastructure rarely found in smaller boutique clinics.

Patient Consensus: Packages in Turkey efficiently combine medical care with hotel coordination and airport help. Patients value having physician supervision and structured follow-up planning included in the upfront cost.
