The surgeon and staff were excellent throughout
My biggest worry going into this was how visible the scars would be after my lower eyelid correction. Even though I’m still in the early stages of healing, the traditional incision lines are already barely noticeable, which is a huge relief. The surgeon and staff were excellent throughout. Based on the care I received and the initial results, I am very pleased with my choice of clinic. Gia my coordinator was lovely and very helpful. Huge thank you to all the medical, nursing and admin staff. 🙏🙏🙏🫰🫰

Now two months after surgery, I am quite happy with the shape of my new eyelids
The medical team members are so friendly and helpful. Although I speak zero Korean, I can sense their passion and empathy, which dramatically reduced my anxiety to go through the surgery. They are very supportive from the right beginning to the end when I left Seoul. And big thanks to the assistance from Yena, who provides detailed before and after care instructions rather than just working as an interpreter. Now two months after surgery, I am quite happy with the shape of my new eyelids. They look much younger and alert.

The support from the team and the surgeon has been unfailing
My biggest fear was that the result would look unnatural. Fortunately, that’s not the case at all. Even though it’s only been 15 days since the operation, my eyes look natural and smooth when I smile, which is very encouraging for the future. My biggest challenge at the moment is that the bruising isn’t fading as quickly as I’d imagined; patience is key. The support from the team and the surgeon has been unfailing. I really understand now why choosing a good surgeon is so important; it made all the difference to my confidence throughout the process.
The medical staff are very professional. They’re always there to listen to you.
I couldn’t find anything negative

the translator Joanne was excellent and very attentive
t was a great experience, the doctor was good, but could have been more attentive. The staff are a little curt when it comes to customer service, but the translator Joanne was excellent and very attentive, there was also a very friendly older nurse. And there were also free therapeutic treatments that I really liked. Now I need to wait for the results to give a real assessment of whether the treatment was really good.

FAQ about Droopy eyelid surgery in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the difference between ptosis repair and standard blepharoplasty for droopy eyelids in Korea?

Ptosis repair in Korea corrects drooping by tightening the internal levator muscle. This muscle lifts the eyelid. Standard blepharoplasty focuses on the surface, removing excess skin and fat to fix hooding. While blepharoplasty refreshes the eye, ptosis repair functionally increases pupil exposure for an alert look.

  • Muscle correction: Ptosis repair shortens the levator muscle to improve the eyelid lifting strength.
  • Tissue removal: Standard blepharoplasty addresses external issues like sagging skin or fatty deposits.
  • Joint procedures: Korean clinics frequently bundle both techniques to create a more defined crease.
  • Patient downtime: Non-incisional muscle tightening allows patients to return to daily life in 5–7 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows the A$1,200 “Standard Upper Eyelid” packages often exclude accommodation and transfers. However, larger centres like AB Plastic Surgery or VG Plastic Surgery offer CCTV-monitored surgery. They also offer university-grade safety systems. Patients with mild drooping frequently benefit from non-incisional suture methods. These methods leave no visible scarring.

Patient Consensus: Many patients find muscle repair, not just skin removal, fixes a tired look. In Korea, surgeons often suggest combining both steps or adding a brow lift. This helps the results look natural and symmetric.

What is the 'Korean technique' for droopy eyelid surgery?

The Korean technique for droopy eyelid surgery primarily refers to non-incisional suture blepharoplasty. This minimally invasive method uses fine threads to create a natural-looking crease without cutting skin. It addresses mild sagging and sleepy eyes with 7–10 days of healing and reversible results.

  • Non-incisional method: Threads connect eyelid structures through micro-holes rather than making full surgical incisions.
  • Sub-brow lifting: Specialists remove skin directly beneath the eyebrow to lift outer eyelid corners.
  • Ptosis correction: Surgeons like Dr Seung-il Chung use proprietary retrotarsal tucking to strengthen weak eye muscles.
  • Natural aesthetics: Focuses on making eyes appear rested and open rather than creating dramatic creases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many markets focus on skin removal, Seoul centres prioritise muscle function. Dr Kim Joo Bong at HERSHE Plastic Surgery maintains a 94.3% success rate. He achieves this by combining sub-brow lifts with fat transfers. This preserves eyelid volume. It prevents the hollowed-out look often seen in traditional Western blepharoplasty.

Patient Consensus: Patients in the Republic of Korea appreciate that suture methods are low-commitment and reversible. Experience shows that treating both eyes together is essential. This helps achieve perfect symmetry and balance.

What is the difference between incisional and non-incisional methods for droopy eyelid surgery in Korea?

The incisional method involves a continuous cut to remove excess skin and fat. The non-incisional method uses sutures through micro-holes to create a crease without cutting. Seoul specialists often recommend the incisional method for thick skin or severe sagging. Clinics like AB Plastic Surgery follow this approach.

  • Incisional durability: Provides a permanent crease and allows surgeons to physically tighten the eyelid muscle.
  • Non-incisional recovery: Patients return to daily activities quickly as the technique avoids surgical incisions.
  • Suitability criteria: Non-incisional suits thin skin, while incisional manages heavy fat and hooded lids.
  • Scarring profile: Incisional leaves a faint line while suture-based methods are virtually invisible once healed.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients request non-incisional surgery for faster recovery. However, Seoul clinics with over 20,000 annual patients often suggest the incisional method for Australians with "sleepy eyes". This approach correctly addresses the lifting muscle rather than just the skin surface.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Korea recommend checking for true ptosis, not just heavy skin, before choosing. Those with thin eyelids loved the scarless finish. Others preferred the lasting stability of incisional surgery.

How long does recovery after droopy eyelid surgery in Korea take?

Recovery after droopy eyelid surgery in Korea usually takes 5–7 days. Patients can then return to work. Visible swelling and bruising typically subside within 2 weeks. Incisions refine over 3–6 months for a natural result. The timeline depends on whether surgeons use incisional or non-incisional techniques.

  • Acute healing: Swelling and bruising peak during the first 3 days after the procedure.
  • Suture removal: Surgeons at Seoul clinics typically remove stitches between day 5 and day 7.
  • Social recovery: Most patients feel comfortable in public within 1–2 weeks as bruising fades.
  • Activity restrictions: Avoid alcohol, saunas, and heavy exercise for at least 2–4 weeks.
  • Final results: Eyelid tissue softens and scar lines typically fade over 3–6 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Coordination data shows Korean clinics use hyperbaric oxygen therapy to speed up healing. For example, VG Plastic Surgery and AB Plastic Surgery use this therapy. This technology reduces swelling faster than traditional rest alone. Patients choosing non-incisional methods often see results that look natural in just 10 days. This is nearly twice as fast as incisional surgery.

Patient Consensus: Most people return to light activities like sightseeing the day after surgery in Seoul. They suggest staying 7–10 days. This allows the original surgeon to remove the stitches and check the healing progress.

What are the best clinics for droopy eyelid surgery in Seoul (2026)?

Top Seoul clinics for droopy eyelid surgery in 2026 include SAERO Plastic Surgery, VG Plastic Surgery, and Wonjin Plastic Surgery Clinic. These centres specialise in ptosis correction and blepharoplasty. They feature board-certified surgeons like Dr Park Young Kyu and Dr Kim Young Bae. These surgeons hold international certifications from ISAPS and ASPS.

  • Specialist expertise: Dr Park Young Kyu at SAERO has performed over 900 blepharoplasty procedures for international patients.
  • Safety accreditation: VG Plastic Surgery holds KOIHA accreditation and uses university-grade 3D-CT scanning for precise surgical planning.
  • Language support: AB Plastic Surgery provides multilingual services in 9 languages, including English, for Australian patients.
  • Techniques: Onlif Plastic Surgery Korea uses 4D Mini Lift techniques to correct sagging. This minimises visible scarring.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Analysis of Seoul medical data shows that the best clinics for eyelid work serve over 5,000 international patients annually. These include Wonjin and AB. Standard blepharoplasty focuses on skin removal. These high-volume centres often incorporate Miller muscle tucking for functional ptosis correction. Some packages offer upper eyelid surgery for around A$1,200, such as at Hivom Plastic Surgery Clinic. This is significantly lower than the A$6,500 Australian average.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Seoul recommend clinics that distinguish between skin laxity and muscle-related ptosis for natural results. Australians often prefer centres like HERSHE. They value the recorded 94.3% success rate and clear English-speaking consultations.

Can international patients have droopy eyelid surgery in Korea?

International patients frequently travel to South Korea for droopy eyelid surgery. Specialists there perform ptosis correction and blepharoplasty. Seoul clinics provide comprehensive infrastructure for Australians, including English-speaking staff and recovery programmes. Surgeons use incisional and non-incisional techniques to restore field of vision and aesthetic harmony.

  • Specialist expertise: Dr Park Jang Woo at Wonjin Plastic Surgery specialises in ptosis treatment.
  • Clinical volume: Leading centres like AB Plastic Surgery treat over 24,000 patients every year.
  • Advanced technology: Clinics like VG Plastic Surgery use hyperbaric oxygen therapy to speed recovery.
  • Recovery timeframe: Patients typically stay 7–14 days for stitch removal and follow-up checks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a significant experience gap in Seoul, where surgeons like Dr Kim Joo Bong maintain a 94.3% success rate. Choosing a dedicated eye specialist rather than a generalist is vital. Many top-tier clinics also include 24-hour CCTV monitoring in theatres for patient safety and transparency.

Patient Consensus: Patients in South Korea value having 2–3 consultations. This allows doctors to assess skin thickness and muscle function before surgery. Recovery involves peak swelling at 3 days, but most travellers find the results worth the 2-week stay.
