How Much Does Hooded eyelid surgery Cost in Republic of Korea in AUD?

Hooded eyelid surgery in the Republic of Korea typically costs from AUD $1,390 to AUD $5,420. Final pricing depends on the surgical technique, the surgeon’s experience, and clinic location. In Australia, similar procedures cost around AUD $8,339 on average. Patients can save approximately 60% by travelling to South Korea. These costs usually include pre-operative tests, local anaesthetic, and post-operative deswelling treatments.

  • Standard blepharoplasty: Typically focuses on removing excess sagging skin from the upper lids.
  • Ptosis correction: Necessary when underlying muscles require tightening to improve eye opening.
  • Double eyelid creation: Often involves defining the crease and adds more complexity to the procedure.
  • Revision surgery: Generally costs significantly more due to scar tissue and previous surgical changes.
  • Regional premiums: Clinics in Seoul districts like Gangnam often charge around 20% more.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Savvy Australian patients often choose Seoul for the high concentration of board-certified specialists. Seoul Miz Hospital, which treats 200,000 patients annually, is a popular choice for those seeking high-volume experience. To maximise savings, remember that international patients can claim a 10% VAT refund at the airport. Many clinics also bundle interpreter services and airport transfers to ensure an easy experience.

Data verified by Bookimed as of August 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 35 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

The surgeon and staff were excellent throughout
My biggest worry going into this was how visible the scars would be after my lower eyelid correction. Even though I’m still in the early stages of healing, the traditional incision lines are already barely noticeable, which is a huge relief. The surgeon and staff were excellent throughout. Based on the care I received and the initial results, I am very pleased with my choice of clinic. Gia my coordinator was lovely and very helpful. Huge thank you to all the medical, nursing and admin staff. 🙏🙏🙏🫰🫰

Now two months after surgery, I am quite happy with the shape of my new eyelids
The medical team members are so friendly and helpful. Although I speak zero Korean, I can sense their passion and empathy, which dramatically reduced my anxiety to go through the surgery. They are very supportive from the right beginning to the end when I left Seoul. And big thanks to the assistance from Yena, who provides detailed before and after care instructions rather than just working as an interpreter. Now two months after surgery, I am quite happy with the shape of my new eyelids. They look much younger and alert.

The support from the team and the surgeon has been unfailing
My biggest fear was that the result would look unnatural. Fortunately, that’s not the case at all. Even though it’s only been 15 days since the operation, my eyes look natural and smooth when I smile, which is very encouraging for the future. My biggest challenge at the moment is that the bruising isn’t fading as quickly as I’d imagined; patience is key. The support from the team and the surgeon has been unfailing. I really understand now why choosing a good surgeon is so important; it made all the difference to my confidence throughout the process.
The medical staff are very professional. They’re always there to listen to you.
I couldn’t find anything negative

the translator Joanne was excellent and very attentive
t was a great experience, the doctor was good, but could have been more attentive. The staff are a little curt when it comes to customer service, but the translator Joanne was excellent and very attentive, there was also a very friendly older nurse. And there were also free therapeutic treatments that I really liked. Now I need to wait for the results to give a real assessment of whether the treatment was really good.

FAQ about Hooded eyelid surgery in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the difference between incisional and non-incisional hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea?

South Korean surgeons distinguish between incisional and non-incisional hooded eyelid surgery. The choice is based on eyelid thickness and sagging. Incisional methods remove excess skin and fat for permanent results. Non-incisional techniques use micro-sutures for a scarless, faster recovery in patients with thinner skin.

  • Incisional method: Surgeon cuts along the crease to remove muscle and fat.
  • Non-incisional technique: Creates a crease using 3–5 tiny stitch points without cutting.
  • Ideal candidates: Incisional suits heavy hooding; non-incisional works best for mild drooping.
  • Recovery timeline: Non-incisional swelling fades in 7 days; incisional requires 1-2 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Non-incisional surgery is popular for its fast recovery. However, many Seoul clinics now promote "Natural Adhesion". This refined suture technique creates more durable bonds than traditional threads. It is a middle ground. It gives patients a natural look without the permanence of a full incision.

Patient Consensus: Patients in South Korea report that non-incisional results look very natural quickly. However, those with thicker eyelids found the incisional method more effective. It prevented the crease from fading over time.

What should I look for in a South Korean clinic for hooded eyelid surgery?

Seek clinics in Seoul that specialise in Asian eyelid anatomy. They should also offer customised techniques like sub-brow lifts or ptosis correction. Prioritise facilities with national safety certifications and board-certified anaesthetists. Also look for surgeons such as Dr Kim Young Bae, who chairs the Research Society for Eye Surgery.

  • Specialist focus: Choose surgeons specialised in blepharoplasty rather than generalists for natural-looking results.
  • Safety standards: Look for 24-hour CCTV monitoring and in-house lab facilities at clinics like AB Plastic Surgery.
  • Advanced techniques: Look for incisional methods for severe hooding or ptosis correction to strengthen lid muscles.
  • Patient support: Select centres providing multilingual services in English and assistance with airport transfers and hotels.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many high-volume Seoul clinics serve 200,000+ patients annually. However, the best results for hooded eyelids often come from doctors holding leadership roles in the Research Society for Eye Surgery. Specialists like Dr Park Jang Woo at Wonjin Clinic combine academic expertise with memberships in international bodies like ISAPS. This is a strong indicator of technical precision.

Patient Consensus: Patients in South Korea recommend visiting small, surgeon-led clinics. They also suggest getting 2–4 consultations to find a doctor who explains their specific anatomy rather than using a standard template. They also suggest confirming the presence of English-speaking staff. They also recommend requesting unedited before-and-after photos that match their specific facial features.

What is ptosis correction and is it relevant to hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea?

Ptosis correction is a surgical procedure that tightens the levator muscle to lift droopy upper eyelids. In South Korea, it is frequently combined with hooded eyelid surgery to open the eyes fully. This prevents the new crease from looking heavy or loosening over time.

  • Muscle reinforcement: Adjusts the levator and Müller muscles to reveal more of the pupil.
  • Structural support: Fixes underlying muscle weakness so removing excess skin delivers lasting results.
  • Combination techniques: Often paired with incisional blepharoplasty for severe drooping or asymmetry.
  • Functional benefits: Reduces reliance on forehead muscles to open eyes, which prevents brow wrinkles.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Specialists like Dr. Kim Young Eun at Wonjin Plastic Surgery Clinic often identify hidden ptosis. Patients commonly mistake this for simple skin sagging. Korean clinics frequently use non-incisional suture methods for mild cases. This allows for faster recovery. It still provides the necessary lift to support a new eyelid crease.

Patient Consensus: Patients in the Republic of Korea report that adding ptosis correction makes eyes look significantly more awake. It also makes applying makeup much easier. They recommend confirming if their hooding is caused by excess skin, muscle weakness, or both. They should do this during their consultation.

How long does recovery after hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea last?

Initial healing after hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea takes 1 to 2 weeks. Most patients return to daily activities within 7 days. However, incisional methods require significantly longer to settle than non-incisional suture techniques. Full, natural results typically appear after 3 to 6 months.

  • Peak swelling: The first 3 days involve high swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness.
  • Stitch removal timing: Surgeons usually remove external stitches between day 5 and day 7 post-surgery.
  • Initial recovery window: Most visible bruising fades within 14 days. This allows a comfortable return to work.
  • Long-term settling: Swelling can linger for 6 months before the final eyelid shape fully matures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While initial healing is fast, South Korean specialists like Dr. Lee Jong Seok at Wonjin Plastic Surgery Clinic often recommend a 7–10 day stay. This timeframe provides professionally monitored stitch removal. It also allows the most intense "balloon-like" swelling to subside before flying home.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Seoul report feeling mobile within 24 hours. However, they suggest avoiding driving for at least 16 days. Expect bruising to improve significantly at the two-week mark. However, full cosmetic results require patience for several months.

Are the results of hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea permanent?

Hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea is generally permanent when performed using the incisional technique. Surgeons remove excess skin and fat to create a lasting crease. While results endure for decades, natural ageing eventually affects skin elasticity. Specialised Korean clinics often combine this with ptosis correction for more durable outcomes.

  • Incisional method: Provides essentially permanent results by removing tissue and muscle.
  • Non-incisional method: Suture-based results typically last 5–7 years before potentially loosening.
  • Ageing process: Natural skin sagging continues over time, which may gradually alter appearance.
  • Ptosis correction: Many specialists tighten eye-opening muscles for long-term functional success.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Senior surgeons in Seoul often recommend the incisional method for international patients. This helps avoid future revision needs. Dr Kim Jeong Bae, with 35 years of experience, specialises in these durable anti-ageing reconstructions. While suture methods appeal for quicker recovery, the incisional approach remains the gold standard. It provides lasting hooded eyelid correction.

Patient Consensus: Results in South Korea are considered highly durable, though the final look takes 3–6 months to settle. Patients note that the crease stays, but natural ageing still changes the eye area over decades.

What is a sub-brow lift for hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea?

A sub-brow lift in South Korea is a specialised surgical procedure that removes excess skin directly beneath the eyebrow line. Specialists use this technique to treat hooded eyelids. It lifts upper lid skin without changing the natural eye shape or creating a double eyelid crease.

  • Incision location: Surgeons place the incision along the lower edge of the eyebrow hair to hide scars.
  • Natural preservation: The technique lifts sagging skin while maintaining the patient's original monolid or double eyelid.
  • Muscle tightening: Surgeons tighten underlying muscles to improve eye opening without using forehead muscles to lift.
  • Combined procedures: Doctors often bundle this with ptosis correction or fat repositioning for a fresh appearance.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korean clinics handle massive volumes. AB Plastic Surgery alone sees 24,000 patients annually. Data shows surgeons here prefer sub-brow lifts over traditional blepharoplasty for patients with thick skin. This approach prevents the heavy, unnatural overhang often seen when thick brow skin is pulled too low over the eye.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Seoul mention that the sub-brow lift feels more like a subtle rejuvenation than a dramatic change. They appreciate how the incision is tucked under the brow hair. This makes the surgical marks almost invisible during recovery.

Can I get hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea on a short trip?

Patients can receive hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea during a 7 to 10-day trip. This timeframe allows for the initial consultation, the procedure, and essential post-operative check-ups. Both incisional and non-incisional techniques are available at KAHF-certified clinics in Seoul.

  • Minimum stay: Plan for 7–9 days so clinicians can remove stitches before departure.
  • Technique choice: Non-incisional methods require 3–5 days, while incisional surgery needs 5–7 days for stitch removal.
  • Initial recovery: Light activity like walking is possible by day 3 after the procedure.
  • Expert care: Surgeons such as Dr Park Jang Woo at Wonjin Plastic Surgery specialise in hooded eyelids.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Analysis shows that top Seoul clinics like Wonjin Plastic Surgery serve over 5,000 international cases annually. These centres often employ surgeons who chair eyelid research societies. This volume means doctors have handled virtually every anatomy variant, which is vital for complex hooded eyelid cases.

Patient Consensus: Visitors recommend staying 9 days to avoid rushing the healing process. They suggest visiting 2–3 clinics in Seoul for in-person consultations. This should be done before committing to a specific surgeon.

Can I combine hooded eyelid surgery with other procedures in South Korea?

Patients can combine hooded eyelid surgery with multiple facial procedures in South Korea. This can improve facial harmony and consolidate recovery. Seoul specialist clinics often pair upper blepharoplasty with ptosis correction, rhinoplasty, or under-eye fat repositioning. They do this during a single theatre session.

  • Eye-opening combinations: Ptosis correction strengthens the levator muscle alongside hooded eyelid removal for brighter eyes.
  • Regional rejuvenation: Surgeons often combine upper blepharoplasty with under-eye fat repositioning to treat dark circles.
  • Facial balancing: Rhinoplasty is frequently performed with eye surgery to refine overall facial proportions.
  • Extended lifts: A sub-brow lift can be added to manage severe skin sagging above the lids.

Bookimed Expert Insight: At Seoul centres like Wonjin Plastic Surgery, combining procedures is the standard for international patients. Data from these centres show they serve over 5,000 cases annually. Stacking surgeries like a scarless lip lift with eyelid correction can reduce theatre time. It can also naturally lower overall package costs.

Patient Consensus: Combining upper and lower eyelid surgery is a common way to manage one recovery period. Patients in Republic of Korea highlight that stacking treatments into one trip saves time. However, swelling often lasts longer than expected.

What is hooded eyelid surgery called in South Korea?

Hooded eyelid surgery in South Korea is primarily called upper blepharoplasty or anti-ageing upper eyelid surgery. Specialists also use specific terms like subbrow lift to address sagging from the eyebrow or ptosis correction if weak muscles cause the eyelid to droop.

  • Upper blepharoplasty: Removes excess skin and fat to rejuvenate the appearance of ageing lids.
  • Ptosis correction: Fixes weak levator muscles so eyes open fully and naturally.
  • Subbrow lift: Hidden incisions under the eyebrow target outer hooding with minimal visible scarring.
  • Hidden double eyelid: Known as sok-ssang-kkeopul, this creates a crease tucked behind the hooded fold.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgeons rarely perform blepharoplasty in isolation for hooded eyes. This is based on data from Wonjin Plastic Surgery Clinic and AB Plastic Surgery. They frequently combine it with ptosis correction and epicanthoplasty. This creates a more open, alert look while maintaining the patient's natural eye shape.

Patient Consensus: Patients in the Republic of Korea recommend specifically asking for ptosis correction. This advice applies if eyelids feel heavy or fatigued. Many found that a subtle hidden crease looked more natural than dramatic changes.

Why is South Korea popular for hooded eyelid surgery?

South Korea dominates hooded eyelid surgery through unmatched procedural volume and specialist training. Surgeons in Seoul centres like AB Plastic Surgery perform thousands of cases annually. They specialise in techniques like ptosis correction and epicanthoplasty. These create wider, more energetic eyes while maintaining natural-looking results.

  • Specialised techniques: Clinics offer suture and incision methods tailored to unique eyelid anatomy.
  • Technology: Doctors use 3D CT diagnostics for precise planning at clinics like Wonjin.
  • Institutional safety: Certifications such as KAHF ensure infrastructure meets national and international patient standards.
  • Board-certified expertise: Surgeons like Dr Lee Jong Seok hold memberships in major international societies.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Practicality drives the market here. Leading clinics like Wonjin Plastic Surgery Clinic treat over 5,000 international patients annually. This massive throughput allows clinics to double the average number of on-site anaesthetists. It ensures patients have constant monitoring that typically exceeds industry standards elsewhere.

Patient Consensus: Patients value how Korean doctors fix both eyelid folds and weak muscles in one session. They appreciate the easy tax refunds available at the airport for cosmetic surgery spending.
