How Much Does Dental Implant with Abutment Cost in Thailand in AUD?

Dental implants with abutments in Thailand typically cost from AUD $1,001 / ฿A34,030 to AUD $1,859 / ฿A63,199. The final price depends on the implant brand, clinical expertise, and necessary preparatory work like bone grafting. Patients save around 78% by travelling to Thailand from Australia, where this procedure costs AUD $6,434 / ฿A218,766 on average. Most clinics include the implant, abutment, and a high-quality crown in their primary quote.

  • Premium Swiss systems: Typically cost 30–50% more than standard Korean or American brands.
  • Full arch restoration: All-on-4 or All-on-6 systems save significantly more per tooth than single units.
  • Regional hubs: Main dental destinations include Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, and Chiang Mai.
  • Material upgrades: Choosing zirconia over porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns usually adds a premium to the total.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a clinic that is an official Straumann provider helps Australians maintain their implants long-term. SmileBox Dental Clinic in Bangkok uses these original materials, which simplifies follow-up care back in Australia. Since patients from Australia visit this clinic most frequently, the staff are well-versed in coordinating the two-trip timeline required for successful osseointegration and final crown fitting.

What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Dental Implant with Abutment in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are dental implants and abutments in Thailand safe?

Dental implants and abutments in Thailand are safe when performed at accredited facilities like Intrarat Hospital or SmileBox Dental Clinic. High safety standards are maintained through ISO-certified workflows. Clinics use premium brands like Straumann and Nobel Biocare. Most specialists have also trained in the United States or Germany.

  • International materials: Clinics use genuine Straumann, Brånemark System, and NobelDirect implants for long-term reliability.
  • Accredited facilities: Leading centres maintain ISO 9001:2015 certifications for sterile surgical environments.
  • Expert specialists: Surgeons like Dr Suphachai Suphangul hold fellowships from prestigious institutions like Loma Linda University.
  • Precise diagnostics: Digital workflows include intra-oral scanning and CT planning for precise implant placement.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic implants start from $700, safety is best assured at clinics using digital X-ray and CT planning. Clinics like A.B. Dental Studio in Phuket use single-visit CEREC technology. This reduces infection risks by limiting the time a site remains open.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend requesting full documentation on implant brands and surgical records. This helps to maintain continuity of care. They suggest avoiding clinics that promise rushed timelines. Proper healing between stages is vital for success.

How long does the dental implant and abutment procedure take when travelling to Thailand?

Dental implant and abutment procedures in Thailand typically require two separate trips. These are usually spread across 3 to 6 months. Most patients stay for 7 to 10 days during the first visit. This is for the surgical placement of the post.

  • Implementation stages: Most cases follow a two-trip protocol for successful bone integration (osseointegration).
  • First trip duration: Patients stay 7–14 days for initial surgery, screenings, and post-operative checks.
  • Surgical timeframe: Installing a single implant post usually takes between 30 and 90 minutes.
  • Healing interval: A 3–6 month waiting period is standard between the first and second trips.
  • Final restoration: The second visit lasts roughly 3–7 days to fit the permanent abutment and crown.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics offer one-day implants, but these often only include a provisional crown. Digital workflows and CAD/CAM technology at clinics like A.B. Dental Studio Phuket can speed up the final phase. For Australian patients, this means the second trip can be shorter.

Patient Consensus: Patients find the surgical visits in Thailand quick. Most acknowledge that full restoration requires multiple trips. They recommend getting written confirmation on whether quotes include the final crown to avoid confusion.

Can I have a dental implant and abutment placed in one day in Thailand?

Qualified patients can receive a dental implant and abutment in one day in Thailand through immediate loading. Clinics in Bangkok and Phuket use digital workflows to place the screw and connector during one session. Despite this, permanent crowns usually require a follow-up visit after healing.

  • Suitability criteria: Requires high bone density and stable implant placement for same-day loading.
  • Surgical timeframe: Specialists often complete the implant and abutment placement within one hour.
  • Provisional restorations: Dentists typically fit a temporary crown to maintain aesthetics during osseointegration.
  • Digital technology: Clinics like A.B. Dental Studio Phuket use CEREC CAD/CAM for same-day restorations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics advertise one-day implants. This usually refers to the healing abutment or a temporary crown. Silom Dental Building offers the Brånemark System and NobelDirect protocols for immediate loading. Patients should confirm if the quote includes the final custom abutment or the temporary healing component.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report that the implant and temporary tooth often finish in one day. Most return months later for the final crown. They suggest clarifying terms because a same-day provisional crown is different from a permanent restoration.

Is the procedure to have a dental implant and abutment fitted in Thailand painful?

Fitting a dental implant and abutment in Thailand is usually a low-pain experience. It is performed under local anaesthesia or sedation. Patients typically report minor pressure rather than acute pain during the procedure. Post-operative tenderness is common but usually resolves within a few days with pain relief.

  • Anaesthesia options: Surgeons use local anaesthetic or sedation so patients feel no pain during surgery.
  • Implant systems: Clinics use recognised brands like Straumann and Nobel Biocare for precise, comfortable fitting.
  • Surgical experience: Specialist surgeons often hold international fellowships from US or European universities in implantology.
  • Staged recovery: Abutment fitting is often less invasive than the initial placement and involves brief pressure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai dental centres often specialise in immediate-loading or one-day implants. This technique can reduce overall discomfort by avoiding multiple surgical stages and reopening the gums. Centres like Silom Dental Building use specific systems like NobelDirect to complete these procedures for international travellers.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand describe the surgical stage as more about pressure than pain. Most are surprised by how quickly they return to normal activities after their appointments.

What is an abutment, and why is it necessary for a dental implant in Thailand?

A dental implant abutment is a connector piece. It joins the surgical implant post to the final replacement tooth. It serves as an essential foundation, acting like the neck of a natural tooth. This helps the crown remain stable and functional for biting.

  • Secure connection: Attaches directly to the implant post once the jawbone has fused safely.
  • Aesthetic customisation: Specialists at SmileBox Dental Clinic use original Straumann materials for natural-looking gum contours.
  • Structural support: Bridges the gap between the internal bone fixture and the visible crown.
  • Immediate loading: Facilities like Silom Dental Building use NobelDirect systems to fit components in one day.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many Australian clinics use standard stock abutments, leading Bangkok centres increasingly provide custom-milled abutments. They use in-house CAD/CAM technology for this process. Dr Suphachai Suphangul at SmileBox Dental Clinic prioritises these custom designs. They precisely match the patient’s unique gum line, reducing the risk of long-term inflammation.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand note that the abutment is often a separate healing stage. They recommend confirming if the initial quote includes the fixture, abutment, and crown. This helps avoid confusion about the final cost.

What types of abutments are used for dental implants in Thailand?

Thai dental clinics use titanium, zirconia, and multi-unit abutments to connect implants to prosthetic teeth. Specialists in Bangkok and Phuket primarily offer original components from Straumann and Nobel Biocare. These include custom-designed CAD/CAM options and standard stock abutments for various restorations.

  • Titanium abutments: High-strength connectors typically used for back teeth and load-bearing restorations.
  • Zirconia abutments: Metal-free, tooth-coloured options preferred for front teeth to improve aesthetics.
  • Custom abutments: Lab-made components shaped via CEREC or CAD/CAM for a precise gum-line fit.
  • Multi-unit abutments: Specialised connectors used for All-on-4 or All-on-6 full-arch bridge systems.
  • Healing abutments: Temporary collars that help shape gum tissue before final crown placement.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics like SmileBox and Kitcha Dental specialise in digital workflows using original Straumann and Nobel Biocare parts. Stock abutments are often included in standard A$1,000–A$1,800 packages. Choosing custom CAD/CAM abutments supports long-term gum health and prevents the grey metal shadow seen through thin tissue.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend choosing zirconia for front teeth. They also suggest confirming if abutments are included in the initial quote. Most find that custom-shaped abutments provide a more natural look than standard pre-made options.
