How Much Does Installation of a dental implant with crown Cost in Thailand in AUD?

Dental implant installation with a crown in Thailand typically ranges from AUD $1,011 / ฿A34,383 to AUD $1,734 / ฿A58,942. The total investment depends on the chosen implant brand, such as Straumann or Osstem, and whether upgrades like zirconia crowns are selected. In Australia, the average cost for this procedure is around AUD $6,501 / ฿A221,034. By travelling to medical hubs like Bangkok, Phuket, or Chiang Mai, Australians can save approximately 80%. Standard packages usually include the titanium post, abutment, prosthetic crown, and initial diagnostics.

  • Premium implant brands: Typically add 40–60% more than budget-friendly options like Osstem or Dentium.
  • Zirconia crown upgrade: Often increases the total by 20–30% compared to standard porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns.
  • Bone grafting: May be required if jaw density is low, adding to the base price.
  • Clinic location: Packages in Bangkok and Phuket are highly competitive, whereas specialist hospitals may charge more.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a clinic with international accreditation provides excellent value for Australians. Hospitals like Bumrungrad International are JCI-accredited and ranked among the world's best, while specialized centers like Bangkok International Dental Center (BIDC) use original Swiss Straumann materials. Some clinics, including SmileBox and BIDH, frequently treat Australian patients and often include digital 3D imaging in their standard diagnostic quotes to ensure price transparency.

Data verified by Bookimed as of July 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 182 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Installation of a dental implant with crown in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What happens if a dental implant provided in Thailand fails after I return home to Australia?

If a dental implant from Thailand fails in Australia, patients typically face out-of-pocket costs for local scans, infection control, or removal. Reputable Thai clinics often provide 5-year warranties. These usually require returning to Bangkok or Phuket for surgery rather than local reimbursement.

  • Diagnostic imaging: Australian dentists require new 3D CT scans to assess bone loss or infection.
  • Brand compatibility: Major Thai centres use global brands like Straumann or Osstem for easier Australian maintenance.
  • Surgical removal: If parts are incompatible, local specialists may need to remove the entire fixture.
  • Corrective surgery: Patients remain responsible for Australian fees, which often exceed the original Thai savings.

Bookimed Expert Insight: To simplify future care, request an implant passport from the Thai clinic. Premium centres like Bangkok International Dental Center provide documentation for Straumann systems. This helps an Australian dentist identify the exact screw and abutment specifications without invasive surgery.

Patient Consensus: Seeking local care quickly is essential if pain or swelling starts. Many find that keeping detailed surgical notes and component lists makes Australian follow-up easier. Some issues involve loose crowns rather than true implant failure, which are often fixable without removal.

Are Thai dental clinics for implants safe and do staff speak English?

Thai dental clinics are safe for implants when patients choose internationally accredited centres in Bangkok or Phuket. These facilities frequently employ English-speaking specialists with American or European training. Clinic safety is verified through JCI (Joint Commission International) and ISO 9001 certifications. These ensure Western-standard sterilisation and clinical protocols.

  • Clinical accreditation: Premier centres like Bumrungrad International Hospital and BIDC maintain JCI and ISO standards.
  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Preeda Pungpapong hold American Board of Prosthodontics certification.
  • Modern technology: Centres use 3D CT guided planning for precise implant placement and bone mapping.
  • English proficiency: Staff at international hubs speak fluent English. Some even offer specialised translation services.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic implants cost from $700, reliable clinics explicitly bundle premium Swiss Straumann or Osstem materials. Our data shows that top-rated Bangkok hubs serve 15,000+ patients annually. This high volume often results in predictable outcomes for complex full-mouth rehabilitations.

Patient Consensus: Visitors to Thailand frequently mention the ease of communicating with English-speaking dentists. They appreciate the modern setup of offices in major cities like Bangkok.

Can I claim the cost of dental implants in Thailand through my Australian private health insurance?

Most Australian private health insurers exclude dental implants performed in Thailand from their rebates. Funds often only pay benefits for treatment by Australian-registered practitioners. While rare exceptions exist for top-tier Extras cover, strict itemisation and 12-month waiting periods generally apply to major dental work.

  • Insurance exclusions: Most Australian funds only cover treatments provided by locally registered practitioners.
  • Itemised invoicing: Clinics must provide Australian Dental Association (ADA) item numbers for potential claims.
  • Waiting periods: Dental implants usually require 12 months of continuous "Major Dental" extras cover.
  • Travel insurance: Standard policies typically exclude elective dental tourism and postoperative complications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While insurance rebates are rare, direct savings often outweigh potential payouts. Dental implants in Thailand range from $700 to $1,200. This is roughly 80% cheaper than the $4,500 Australian average. Accredited centres like Bangkok International Dental Center maintain affiliation with the American Dental Association. This helps with professional documentation for Australian patients.

How many trips to Thailand are required for a standard dental implant, and how long does the stay need to be?

Standard dental implants in Thailand typically require 2 separate trips. The first trip for implant placement takes 5–7 days. After 3–6 months of healing, a second trip of 3–7 days is needed to fit the permanent crown.

  • First visit: Stay 5–7 days for consultations, 3D CT scans, and surgical placement.
  • Healing phase: Wait 3–6 months for osseointegration, where the bone fuses with the post.
  • Second visit: Spend 3–7 days for impressions and fitting the custom zirconia or porcelain crown.
  • Bone grafting: If your jawbone lacks density, you will need 3–6 months of extra healing.
  • Outpatient care: Most procedures are outpatient. Remember to factor in local hotel costs between appointments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Australian patients expect a single trip. However, the 2-stage process ensures a higher success rate. Clinics like SmileBox Dental Clinic and Bangkok International Dental Center specialise in this protocol. They often use 3D CT planning to reduce surgical time during your first stay.

Patient Consensus: Clinics in Bangkok and Phuket typically require a week for initial surgery to monitor healing. Patients suggest confirming crown fabrication times upfront. Lab work for permanent ceramics usually takes at least 3 business days.

Are same-day dental implants an viable option for Australians travelling to Thailand?

Same-day dental implants in Thailand are a viable option for Australians with sufficient bone density. Specialists use immediate-load protocols to place a titanium post and a temporary crown during a single visit. This provides an immediate result while the implant integrates with the jawbone.

  • Technique requirements: Successful immediate loading requires excellent bone density and no active gum infections.
  • Temporary restorations: Same-day procedures typically provide temporary crowns. Final permanent crowns require a later visit.
  • Clinical planning: JCI-accredited centres like Bangkok International Dental Center use 3D CT scans for precision.
  • Expert providers: Surgeons like Dr Chatchai Kunavisarut specialise in minimally invasive techniques and modern implant systems.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While single implants cost from $700, the real value for Australians is in the technology. High-volume Bangkok clinics often include 3D dental scans and panoramic X-rays in the base price. This detail is vital because these scans alone can cost hundreds in Australia. However, they are essential for safe same-day placement.

Patient Consensus: Australians find the immediate temporary crown essential for appearance during the healing phase. Most suggest staying in Thailand for 10 days to monitor the initial bite and recovery.
