Doctors at the highest level
PLUSES Doctors at the highest level...professionalism, attention, responsibility felt during the whole stay...nothing unnecessary was said...no promises were made that could not be realised later...we were very satisfied with the results of their work.... Medical equipment may not be the latest models, but the penultimate certainly ... The food is very tasty... The facilities in the ward create a comfortable stay... The location of the clinic is good... Many hotels of different categories within walking distance..... MINUSES The medical staff and service staff (cleaning of the ward) wish to be better...the clinic needs a little more review of the process of care of medical staff for patients...at night when the patient before surgery or after surgery should gain strength and rest, begins frequent going to the room...then the temperature to measure, then the pressure, then remembering about the drip to connect the next or remove the forgotten.... Another disadvantage is the proposal-proform with an indication of what services are included in the paid amount, and which are not ... I would like a more specific list...taking into account that the treatment plan has changed, the amount to be paid has also changed, and there is always a question whether it is paid or whether it is necessary to pay additionally...which causes inconvenience and worries "whether you have enough money".... The general impression of the clinic was good...despite the disadvantages.....
Professionalism of the medical team
Nursing and housekeeping.
About Bookimed service

FAQ about Surgical treatment of scoliosis in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the success rate of scoliosis operations in top Turkish clinics?

Top Turkish clinics report success rates between 80% and 95% for scoliosis surgery. Leading JCI-accredited centres achieve up to 95% efficacy in curvature correction. They also achieve 92% in pain reduction. Specialists use neuromonitoring and robotic systems like Mazor X for surgical precision and patient safety.

  • Correction efficacy: Leading hospitals achieve 88% to 95% spinal realignment using instrumentation.
  • Safety technology: Surgeons use intraoperative neuromonitoring to track nerve pathways and prevent neurological deficits.
  • Surgeon experience: Experts like Dr Yusuf Bayram at Hisar Hospital have performed 1,000+ procedures.
  • Robotic precision: Centres like Turan Turan Health Group use Mazor X Stealth robotic systems.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Base surgical success is high. However, the 10-day hospital stay included in Optimed International Hospital packages is a critical differentiator. Data shows these extended stays allow for more intensive monitoring during the high-risk first week of recovery. This monitoring is more thorough than what shorter 7-day protocols provide.

Patient Consensus: Patients report the experience exceeded expectations with significant improvements in breathing and lung capacity. The recovery process in Turkey is exceptionally supportive. This is thanks to dedicated translators and highly professional nursing teams.

When is surgery actually necessary for scoliosis?

Surgery is typically necessary when a spinal curve exceeds a 45 to 50 degree Cobb angle. It is also necessary when the curve shows documented progression despite bracing. Specialists recommend intervention to prevent the curve from worsening in adulthood. They also recommend it when severe thoracic curvature restricts lung and heart function.

  • Curve magnitude: Surgery is considered when the Cobb angle reaches 45 to 50 degrees.
  • Active progression: Rapidly worsening curves in growing children often require surgical stabilisation.
  • Organ function: Thoracic curves over 60 degrees can compress the lungs and heart.
  • Neurological deficits: Surgery addresses severe nerve compression causing weakness, numbness, or chronic pain.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics frequently use 1 mm neuronavigation accuracy for complex cases. Surgeons like Dr. Yusuf Bayram at Hisar Hospital have handled 1,000+ spine procedures. This high volume allows them to manage multi-stage corrections that standard hospitals may avoid. They often do so at lower costs.

Patient Consensus: Many found that surgery was recommended only after curves passed 50 degrees and monitoring failed. Patients in Turkey appreciated that specialists focused on stopping progression. They also provided professional care and tasty meals during recovery.

Why do international patients choose Turkey for spine surgery?

International patients choose Turkey for spine surgery to access specialist neurosurgeons and advanced technology at A$27,500 to A$33,100. This provides approximately 80% savings compared to Australia. JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul and Ankara offer rapid scheduling. They often coordinate complex surgeries within weeks.

  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Yusuf Bayram have performed 1,000+ successful spine procedures.
  • Advanced technology: Clinics use Stryker implants and neuronavigation systems for 1 mm surgical accuracy.
  • Quality standards: Many facilities, including Memorial Şişli, hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.
  • Comprehensive care: Packages include VIP transfers, language assistance, and 7–10 days of hospitalisation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often bundle neuronavigation and neuromonitoring into standard scoliosis packages to improve safety. These technologies usually cost extra elsewhere. High-volume centres like Hisar Hospital include them to maintain 95%+ success rates for complex cases.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate the direct pathway from initial consultation to surgery without long waits. They value the attentive nursing care, modern private suites, and clear upfront pricing for multi-stage corrections.

Why is Turkey a popular destination for scoliosis surgery?

Turkey is a leading destination for scoliosis surgery due to rapid access to JCI-accredited facilities and specialist spine surgeons. Patients benefit from neuronavigation technology and comprehensive all-inclusive packages. Costs typically range from $18,000 to $28,200. This offers significant savings of up to 80% compared to Australian private healthcare.

  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr. Yusuf Bayram have performed 1,000+ complex spine procedures.
  • Technology: Clinics use Mazor X robotic systems and O-arm navigation for precision.
  • Rapid scheduling: Surgery is typically booked within weeks, avoiding long Australian public waitlists.
  • Extensive recovery: Packages often include 7–10 days of hospitalisation with 24-hour nursing support.
  • Accredited facilities: Istanbul centres like Memorial Sisli were among the first worldwide to earn JCI accreditation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that mid-range packages around A$27,500 often include neuromonitoring as standard. This technology tracks nerve function during spinal alignment to prevent injury. While some budget options exist, these mid-tier packages provide critical safety features. These features mirror Australian clinical standards.

Patient Consensus: Families appreciate the high level of professionalism and detailed pre-operative testing in Istanbul. Patients find the all-inclusive nature of Turkish care reduces stress. It bundles nutritious meals, translators, and VIP transfers into one price.

What surgical techniques are used for scoliosis in Turkey?

Turkey offers spinal fusion and motion-preserving techniques for scoliosis surgery. These include Vertebral Body Tethering (VBT). Some centres use neuronavigation and intraoperative neuromonitoring to protect nerve function. Surgeons often use hybrid approaches, combining fusion for rigid curves with VBT to maintain flexibility.

  • Spinal fusion: Accesses the spine to permanently join vertebrae using Stryker titanium rods.
  • Vertebral body tethering: Uses flexible cords for growing children to straighten spines without fusion.
  • Anterior scoliosis correction: Treats mature spines through the side to preserve natural back mobility.
  • Growing rod systems: Correct early-onset scoliosis in young children while allowing for future growth.
  • Neuronavigation technology: Provides 1 mm accuracy during screw placement to increase surgical safety.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Spinal fusion is standard. However, many Turkish surgeons frequently perform hybrid procedures. These include Dr. Yusuf Bayram and Dr. Necati Kaplan. Their hybrid procedures combine fusion in the upper spine with VBT in the lower back. This strategy is ideal for patients needing stability. It preserves their ability to bend and twist.

Patient Consensus: Turkish specialists offer professional care. Patients also enjoy tasty meals and translation help from coordinators during appointments. The surgical teams often exceed expectations, helping children recover quickly in comfortable, well-equipped hospital rooms.

What is the typical recovery timeline after scoliosis surgery in Turkey?

Scoliosis recovery in Turkey generally spans 6 to 12 months for full bone fusion. Patients typically stay in hospital for 7 to 10 days. This is followed by 2 weeks in a local hotel. Early walking begins within 48 hours under supervision from specialists.

  • Inpatient care: Most patients remain in hospital for 7 to 10 days for monitoring.
  • Initial mobility: Surgeons encourage short walks and light tasks between 2 and 6 weeks.
  • Routine return: Desk work and school usually resume after 2 to 3 months post-op.
  • Fusion timeline: Complete bone healing and return to sports typically require 6 to 12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often include extended hotel stays of 15 days in all-inclusive packages. This aligns with the critical window for post-op monitoring before long-haul flights. Choosing packages with neuronavigation technology, like those at Optimed International, provides higher precision during complex spinal corrections.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find basic daily activities manageable within a few months. Most felt functionally healed by 6 months despite lingering stiffness. Walking the day after surgery is common. Many highlight the importance of having local support for the first month.
