Doctors at the highest level
PLUSES Doctors at the highest level...professionalism, attention, responsibility felt during the whole stay...nothing unnecessary was said...no promises were made that could not be realised later...we were very satisfied with the results of their work.... Medical equipment may not be the latest models, but the penultimate certainly ... The food is very tasty... The facilities in the ward create a comfortable stay... The location of the clinic is good... Many hotels of different categories within walking distance..... MINUSES The medical staff and service staff (cleaning of the ward) wish to be better...the clinic needs a little more review of the process of care of medical staff for patients...at night when the patient before surgery or after surgery should gain strength and rest, begins frequent going to the room...then the temperature to measure, then the pressure, then remembering about the drip to connect the next or remove the forgotten.... Another disadvantage is the proposal-proform with an indication of what services are included in the paid amount, and which are not ... I would like a more specific list...taking into account that the treatment plan has changed, the amount to be paid has also changed, and there is always a question whether it is paid or whether it is necessary to pay additionally...which causes inconvenience and worries "whether you have enough money".... The general impression of the clinic was good...despite the disadvantages.....
Professionalism of the medical team

"The result of the surgery is excellent
The clinic is very large, the conditions in the room were very good, there was even a folding chair for an attendant. Food was brought for both of us. The doctor aroused confidence from the very first consultation. But also a whole team was engaged in my operation and they are all great professionals. Nurses have also always been very helpful.

FAQ about ApiFix system implantation in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the ApiFix system for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis treatment in Turkey?

The ApiFix system in Turkey is a minimally invasive, fusionless treatment for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. It uses a small expandable rod and screws to correct spinal curves while preserving spine movement. This dynamic device suits flexible curves between 35° and 60° and promotes faster recovery than fusion surgery.

  • Implant technique: Minimally invasive implantation of the ApiFix system for scoliosis correction.
  • Motion preservation: Allows spine mobility and guided growth without full spinal fusion.
  • Suitability: Designed for flexible Lenke type 1 or 5 curves in still-growing adolescents.
  • Recovery benefits: Smaller incision, less scarring, and hospital stays of 1–2 days typical.
  • Leading centres: JCI-accredited hospitals like Memorial Şişli and Istanbul Florence Nightingale offer this in Turkey.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey leads globally in ApiFix requests, with 393 clinics offering growth-friendly scoliosis treatments. Top hospitals in Istanbul, including Memorial Şişli and Istanbul Florence Nightingale, hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, ensuring quality and patient safety. Packages often cost from $13,000 to $19,000.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey value ApiFix for preserving spine movement in adolescents still growing. They note quicker returns to daily activities and appreciate this less invasive step before spinal fusion. Confirming curve flexibility and growth stage is crucial for suitability.

How is the ApiFix procedure in Turkey different from traditional spinal fusion for scoliosis?

The ApiFix procedure in Turkey corrects scoliosis without fusing the spine, preserving spinal mobility. It uses a minimally invasive, posterior-only approach with a dynamic rod that gradually straightens the curve. Traditional spinal fusion permanently joins vertebrae, causing stiffness and a longer recovery.

  • Minimally invasive approach: only 3 pedicle screws are used versus 10+ in fusion.
  • Dynamic implant: ApiFix’s self-adjusting rod maintains spine flexibility.
  • Faster recovery: patients usually walk within hours and leave hospital in 1–2 days.
  • Reversible option: rods can be removed after 1–2 years once stable correction occurs.
  • Target group: best for adolescents or those still growing with flexible spines.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey leads in ApiFix treatments worldwide, with 393 clinics offering this non-fusion option. Clinics like Memorial Şişli Hospital, accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI), provide high care standards. Patients save up to 75% versus Australian prices, with experienced surgeons specialising in spine surgery available in Istanbul and Ankara.

Patient Consensus: Patients find ApiFix less disruptive than spinal fusion and appreciate quicker returns to normal activity in Turkey. Many highlight the advantage of preserved spine movement and shorter hospital stays compared to traditional fusion surgery.

Who is a candidate for the ApiFix system implantation procedure in Turkey?

Candidates for ApiFix system implantation in Turkey are mainly children and teenagers with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. The spine should have flexible single curves—Lenke 1 or 5—with Cobb angles between 35 and 60 degrees that reduce below 30 degrees during side-bending. The upper back curve (kyphosis) must be under 55°.

  • Curve type: Lenke 1 (thoracic) or Lenke 5 (thoracolumbar/lumbar) single curve.
  • Curve flexibility: Must reduce to 30° or less on side-bending X-rays.
  • Age group: Growing children, usually Risser stage 0–2 for skeletal maturity.
  • Bone quality: T-score better than -1.5 for safe implantation.
  • Exclusions: Non-idiopathic scoliosis or kyphosis over 55° are not suitable.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Though age is often noted, curve flexibility is the key factor for ApiFix candidacy. Clinics in Istanbul and Ankara with JCI and ISO certifications handle many scoliosis cases, making them solid choices. Many patients appreciate that the removable implant allows a quicker return to walking after removal.

Patient Consensus: Most patients in Turkey are younger teens with adaptable curves who find the procedure less invasive than fusion. They emphasise the importance of bending X-rays to check their spine’s flexibility before surgery. Many report faster recovery and early movement after hardware removal.

How do I choose the best clinic for ApiFix system surgery in Turkey?

Choosing the best clinic for ApiFix system surgery in Turkey means finding a surgeon experienced in non-fusion scoliosis surgery and a JCI-accredited hospital. Clinics like Memorial Şişli Hospital in Istanbul offer trusted care and strict post-op follow-up, which is critical for the ApiFix system.

  • Surgeon expertise: look for specialists in minimally invasive non-fusion scoliosis surgery.
  • Hospital accreditation: opt for Joint Commission International (JCI) facilities.
  • Post-op care: ensure clinics provide rigorous follow-up due to ApiFix’s non-fusion nature.
  • Verify availability: confirm the ApiFix procedure is offered by the specific surgeon and clinic.
  • Location examples: top clinics are mainly in Istanbul and Ankara.

Bookimed Expert Insight: A key point from Bookimed is that ApiFix is a niche technique rarely offered. Australian patients should focus on surgeons’ direct experience rather than clinic reputation alone. Many Turkish centres focus on fusion surgeries, so confirming that surgeons specialise in non-fusion ApiFix is essential, especially via direct clinic communication.

Patient Consensus: Patients say surgeon choice outweighs clinic choice for ApiFix in Turkey. They stress verifying surgeon experience and post-op support. Australian patients recommend getting referrals from local scoliosis specialists before booking.
