Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience
The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all!
Translators were top notch! Everything was amazing, I can't select just one thing.
Had issue with payment, it kept getting rejected and due to this I wasn't admitted right away. But once payment went through, all services followed smoothly.

FAQ about Reconstructive surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the main risks associated with reconstructive surgery in Turkey for Australian patients?

Reconstructive surgery in Turkey carries risks like infection, poor aftercare, and rushed surgical planning. Clinics vary in follow-up support and communication, which may cause complications. Board-certified surgeons in accredited hospitals such as Memorial Şişli provide safer care for Australian patients.

  • Infection risk: Post-surgery infections require urgent treatment to avoid severe outcomes.
  • Aftercare issues: Limited English-speaking staff and follow-up pose challenges for Australians.
  • Rushed consultations: Some clinics pressure patients into procedures without thorough risk review.
  • Unexpected fees: Hidden costs for implants or tests can appear after arrival.
  • Blood clots: Flying soon after surgery raises DVT and pulmonary embolism risks significantly.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Memorial Bahçelievler and Anadolu Medical Center hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, indicating strict quality controls. Experienced surgeons such as Prof. Furkan Erol Karabekmez offer online follow-up and direct care, reducing risks. Australian patients benefit from clinics with English coordinators and transparent pricing packages to avoid unexpected costs.

Patient Consensus: Australian patients in Turkey found language support essential for smooth recovery. Many recommend delaying flights post-surgery to prevent blood clots. Clear cost explanations helped avoid surprises during treatment.

How can Australian patients verify the qualifications and English fluency of surgeons for reconstructive surgery in Turkey?

Australian patients can verify reconstructive surgeons in Turkey by checking registration with the Turkish Medical Association and memberships in the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (TPRECD). Reputable clinics often have Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, demonstrating safety and quality. Confirming English fluency through direct video calls with surgeons is crucial.

  • Official registration: Verify surgeons via Turkish Medical Association (TTB) records.
  • Specialist memberships: Look for TPRECD and International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) links.
  • Hospital accreditation: Choose surgeons working in JCI-accredited hospitals for safety standards.
  • English fluency: Request video consultations to assess the surgeon’s spoken English.
  • Credential verification: Confirm the surgeon’s legal name, not just clinic branding.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgeons like Professor Furkan Erol Karabekmez provide online consultations in English and operate in hospitals with standards comparable to JCI, simplifying Australian patient verification. Top clinics such as Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital hold JCI and ISO certifications, assuring quality and safety standards. Direct video contact with surgeons before booking greatly reduces communication risks.

Patient Consensus: Australians value direct video calls to test English and appreciate surgeons linked to international boards like ISAPS. Patients warn against trusting social media claims and recommend contacting previous patients through social platforms for honest feedback about communication and care in Turkey.

What should Australian patients ask for before paying a deposit for reconstructive surgery in Turkey?

Australian patients should get written proof detailing deposit coverage, refund rules, and final cost application before paying for reconstructive surgery in Turkey. Confirm the surgeon’s certifications align with Australian standards and request clear post-op care and complication management plans.

  • Deposit coverage: Confirm if it covers operation, hospital stay, or consultations.
  • Refund policy: Ask when and how deposits can be refunded.
  • Surgeon credentials: Verify certifications like ISAPS, matching Australian FRACS standards.
  • Post-operative care: Request a detailed follow-up and pain management plan.
  • Complication protocols: Learn how clinics handle leaks, infections, or graft failure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Most Turkish clinics, such as Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital, offer clear pre-op tests and consultations in packages. Patients benefit by checking if all-inclusive prices and English-speaking staff support are confirmed in writing. Clinics serving many international patients often provide structured follow-ups including telehealth, which suits Australians returning home.

Patient Consensus: Australians highlight the value of written follow-up schedules and confirmed English-speaking nursing support in Turkey. They advise refusing liability waivers and insist on clear pricing upfront to avoid surprises. Telehealth consults before committing help build trust and clear expectations.

What typically is included in reconstructive surgery packages in Turkey for Australians considering treatment abroad?

Reconstructive surgery packages in Turkey for Australians typically include the surgical procedure, surgeon and anaesthesia fees, and at least one night in hospital. Packages usually cover hotel or recovery home stays with nursing care, airport transfers, pre-op tests, and follow-up appointments lasting weeks.

  • Surgical procedure and surgeon fees: Covered in full, including implants if needed.
  • Hospital stay: Usually includes 1 night; recovery homes provide 7 nights with 24/7 nursing.
  • Transfers: VIP airport pick-up/drop-off and hotel-to-clinic transport are standard.
  • Pre- and post-op care: Blood tests, consultations, lymphatic drainage massages, and follow-ups included.
  • Package length: Recommended stay about 2.5 to 3 weeks for healing and safe return flights.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Turkish clinics bundle multiple surgeries, like tummy tuck and breast lift, lowering the overall cost. Clinics such as Memorial Bahçelievler Hospital offer eco-friendly recovery spaces fostering faster healing. Also, packages including recovery homes with nursing support are vital for safe post-op care, especially given the long flight back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Australians in Turkey appreciated the all-inclusive care covering hospital stay, nursing, and transfers. They highlight the importance of 24/7 nursing in recovery homes and advise confirming exactly what each package includes to avoid surprises.

How is post-operative care arranged after reconstructive surgery in Turkey when patients return to Australia?

Post-operative care after reconstructive surgery in Turkey is managed mainly before patients return to Australia. Surgeons provide 2 to 3 weeks of recovery in Turkey with nursing and transport support. Follow-up care in Australia is usually arranged by the patient with guidance from the Turkish team.

  • Recovery stay: Typically 7–21 days in Turkey before flying home.
  • Pre-flight checks: Surgeons ensure patients are fit to travel after surgery.
  • Virtual follow-ups: Some clinics offer online consultations and WhatsApp support.
  • Post-op supplies: Patients are advised to bring pain meds and care items to Australia.
  • Insurance advice: Confirm Australian private health cover for complications post-surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Most Turkish clinics bundle a longer post-op stay with nursing and transport, reducing risks from long flights soon after surgery. Patients who stay 2.5+ weeks in Turkey report smoother recoveries. Virtual follow-ups ease concerns, but local care after return mainly depends on patients arranging it themselves.

Patient Consensus: Australians recommend staying in Turkey at least 2.5 weeks to heal fully before the flight. Support with airport transfers and a reliable local contact in Turkey is valued. Many stress the importance of securing private insurance in Australia for any follow-up issues.

Why is Turkey a popular destination for Australian patients seeking reconstructive surgery?

Turkey is a popular choice for Australians seeking reconstructive surgery due to its skilled specialists, JCI-accredited hospitals, and 24/7 aftercare. Procedures include complex microsurgery and breast reconstruction with advanced techniques and faster recovery times, often in affordable all-inclusive packages.

  • Cost advantage: Packages cost from $3,500 to $8,500, saving 80% vs Australia.
  • Experienced surgeons: Experts like Dr Hasan Sahin have performed 12,000+ surgeries worldwide.
  • JCI-accredited hospitals: Facilities like Memorial Bahçelievler offer internationally recognised safety standards.
  • Comprehensive aftercare: 24/7 nursing, transport, and follow-up care are commonly included post-surgery.
  • Wide procedure range: From flap dissection to scar prevention and rhinoplasty offered in Istanbul and Ankara.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often bundle reconstructive surgery with follow-up services, unlike Australian options. High-volume doctors and JCI accreditation align with better patient outcomes. Packages from Memorial Bahçelievler and specialists like Prof. Furkan Karabekmez include online consults and tailored planning, ideal for Australians needing revision or complex surgeries.

Patient Consensus: Australian patients value combining multiple procedures affordably in Turkey. They praise the attentive nurses and quick recovery support, especially 24/7 care and transport. Many finish rhinoplasty and reconstructive procedures in under a month with neat results and strong safety measures.
