How Much Does Breast reconstruction surgery Cost in Thailand in AUD?

Breast reconstruction surgery in Thailand typically costs between AUD $6,588 and AUD $8,164. Final prices depend on the surgical technique, such as using implants or the patient's own tissue, and the clinic category. Patients travel from Australia to avoid high private fees of AUD $35,520 on average, saving approximately 79%. Most Thai packages include surgical fees, anaesthetic, and initial hospital stays in Bangkok or Phuket.

  • Implant-based reconstruction: typically the most affordable option using silicone or saline implants.
  • Autologous flap techniques: often cost 40–60% more than implants due to complex microsurgery requirements.
  • Clinic category: premium facilities with JCI accreditation typically charge a 15–20% fee premium.
  • City hubs: major medical centres are located in Bangkok, Phuket, and Nonthaburi.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a facility that balances high volume with international accreditation provides the best value. Bumrungrad International Hospital treats over 1 million patients annually and holds Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. For those seeking specialised care, Wansiri Hospital maintains a dedicated rhinoplasty and breast department. Australian patients often find that mid-tier JCI-accredited clinics in Bangkok offer the most competitive balance of safety and savings.

Data verified by Bookimed as of July 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 197 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

The assistants and the doctors were great, clear explanations, details
The assistants and the doctors were great, clear explanations, details. The care from the assistant before operation and after, the next day it was great. However, the grab taxis for consultations were not very comfortable—not spacious, not comfortable, old tapestry, smell inside, which made us feel annoyed before surgery when already nervous and irritated. When we came back for post-operative checking we already made an appointment but in the end we had to wait 2 hours more from the appointed hour.

I’m feeling better than expected this early on
My main worries before the procedure were the recovery process and the final look of the scars. My surgeon was very direct about both, clearly explaining the realistic results, the swelling timeline, and exactly where the incisions for my full neck lift would be placed behind the ears. This honesty was appreciated. The procedure was done under general anesthesia, and I’m feeling better than expected this early on. The clinic’s support has been solid; they gave me a clear aftercare guide and have been easy to reach with questions. It was also a relief that there were no additional expenses on top of the quoted price.

The clinic staff were competent, and the surgeon was clear in our consultations
Waking up, I felt groggy but managed. The clinic staff were competent, and the surgeon was clear in our consultations. The incision was placed under the breast, which is what I wanted. I am still in the early recovery phase, and it has its challenges. My pain has lessened to a mild discomfort, but sleeping through the night is difficult, and my nipples are uncomfortably hypersensitive. Overall, the medical care was solid, though the recovery process itself is demanding. It’s a serious undertaking.

Despite the discomfort, the clinic, the staff, and my surgeon were all fantastic and provided great care
Monsplaty, Tummy Tuck and 360 Liposuction. My biggest concern going into this was what the recovery would actually feel like. It's not easy. The most challenging part has definitely been the constant tight feeling, which is something to be prepared for. My surgeon used a combination of liposuction and excision. Right now there is still some swelling, so it’s too early to know how my clothes will fit differently in the end. Despite the discomfort, the clinic, the staff, and my surgeon were all fantastic and provided great care. It was a professional and supportive environment, and I'm glad I made the choice to go there.
Very clean, very inviting. After care was good too. Everything was quick and easy. Communication via whatsapp made things easier as well. I travelled solo and the staff helped that little extra.
After surgery garments are not forgiving for us longer torso people. They were a bit short which added a lil discomfort when it rolled at the back. Other than that everything was really good.

Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected
Seeing the surgical site for the first time was the moment everything finally felt real. Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected. We used the penile inversion technique, and while the results look promising, the recovery requires a lot of patience and steady commitment to the healing process. My biggest challenge at this stage is definitely the physical discomfort of being seated for a long time. It is a process. The clinic staff has been very attentive during my stay, and I am expecting to have the catheter removed very soon. To anyone else preparing for this surgery, it’s not easy but it is a good experience overall.

The staff deserves a special mention for being so supportive
One of my biggest worries was the potential for hidden costs, but I was relieved to find there were no additional expenses on top of what the clinic quoted. The staff deserves a special mention for being so supportive. They've stayed in touch and have been very easy to reach, which is reassuring during recovery from my traditional liposuction on two areas. What stood out about my surgeon was how carefully he marked the areas before we went into the operating room. My recovery is going about as expected so far. The whole process was handled professionally.

Just trust them
What really stood out was sitting with my doctor before the procedure to draw the beard shape together. That personal approach made a huge difference. Honestly, so far I'm feeling better than expected. The procedure was done using the FUE technique. The clinic’s support afterward has been great; they provided a clear aftercare guide and have stayed in touch with me. It was also a relief that there were no additional expenses on top of what I had paid. My advice for a future patient? Just trust them. They know what they are doing!
Excellent staff. Really took care of me. Wjile the full effects of my procedure will take several months to show. I'm very pleased so far of the outcome. They are very accommodating and generous with their time
Some language issues but some of the staff speak English well enough that it really isn't a problem

What truly stood out was my surgeon, who was honest about realistic results from the start and personally handled both the consultation and the surgery
I was thinking that going into a revision was getting unrealistic promises. What truly stood out was my surgeon, who was honest about realistic results from the start and personally handled both the consultation and the surgery. It gave me confidence. My alarplasty was done to correct an asymmetric nose, and while I'm still in the early stages of healing, it’s really too early to tell what the final outcome will be. The staff were supportive, providing a clear aftercare guide for my recovery at home. I also appreciated that there were no additional expenses on top of what I had already paid the clinic.

the care provided by the surgeon and the staff was impeccable
My one-off operation went very well and the care provided by the surgeon and the staff was impeccable, apart from a few minor language issues. However, you should be prepared for a few additional costs that were not included in the original price: we had to pay for the transfers between the hotel and the clinic ourselves, and the wound care supplies were insufficient, which amounted to a mid-double-digit sum in total. My most important tip for future patients would be to make absolutely sure you clarify any dietary requirements (vegetarian/halal/...) with the clinic before you arrive.
The coordination team is very dedicated and always available. The staff are consistently very friendly and go out of their way to help. A very comprehensive package with extensive, thorough preliminary examinations and no hidden costs. A superbly equipped single room, including a sofa bed for an accompanying person.
Contrary to what was advertised, there was no interpreter. The nursing staff, in particular, did not always have a good enough command of English to explain everything clearly and in detail. The consultation with the surgeon was less detailed than expected. It wasn’t always entirely clear which services were included in the package and which weren’t (particularly transfers) – but there were no major hidden costs. Hospital food/light meals after operations are always a challenge, and perhaps even more so in a different cultural context – I wasn’t asked about any specific dietary preferences, so anyone who absolutely needs vegetarian, vegan, kosher or halal food should definitely clarify this in advance; in my opinion, the hospital bed was very hard, which is significantly more uncomfortable when you can’t move around much

I'm confident in my choice and would recommend this clinic
My biggest worry was how the results would actually look and feel afterward. Now that I'm in the early stages of recovery from the fat transfer graft, I can say the outcome is positive. The girth is already noticeably thicker. Everything is still slightly numb, as expected, but the visual change is definitely there. The surgeon and the entire staff were professional and clear with all information, which helped manage my concerns from the beginning. It's a relief. Based on the care I received and the initial results, I'm confident in my choice and would recommend this clinic.

The most reassuring part of the whole process was sitting with the surgeon before we started
The most reassuring part of the whole process was sitting with the surgeon before we started. He took the time to draw the hairline with me and clearly explained the entire FUE extraction and implantation process, which helped manage my expectations for the 2,000-3,000 graft procedure. Now in the early stages of healing, I'm feeling about as expected. The clinic has stayed in touch, which is good. Overall, it was a solid experience with the surgeon and staff, and I appreciated that there were no additional expenses on top of what I was quoted.

The entire staff and my surgeon were great and supportive through it all
My biggest fear was the recovery, and it’s certainly a process that requires patience. The entire staff and my surgeon were great and supportive through it all. Right now, my chin is still very swollen, so I can't properly see the projection from the large, solid silicone implant yet. The numbness has been the hardest part. My lower lip feels slightly numb, which has made eating the biggest challenge so far. It’s a strange sensation. Despite the temporary side effects of healing, the care I received was solid and I would recommend this clinic.
Really loved the stuff they were very cute and helpful

My breathing is now even better than before
My biggest concern was that the result might look unnatural or that my breathing might be affected. Neither of these things happened. In fact, my breathing is now even better than before. During the open rhinoplasty, a small bump was removed and the bridge of my nose is now, even so soon after the procedure, already straighter, just as I wanted. In addition, the tip of my nose already looks much more defined. The staff and the surgeon were consistently supportive and answered all my questions patiently, which gave me a great deal of reassurance. I felt I was in good hands.

The surgeon and the whole medical team have been absolutely brilliant
I was really worried about the recovery period, and the truth is it hasn’t been as easy as I expected. My stomach is still swollen, and the compression garments are still tight, but the hardest part so far has been dealing with the annoying numb patches. That said, the surgeon and the whole medical team have been absolutely brilliant. The doctor explained to me that he used ultrasound technology (VASER) and removed between 3 and 4 litres of fat, and I felt I was in safe hands with them. Unfortunately, the clinic’s facilities weren’t up to the same standard as the quality of medical care, which is why I’ve given it a lower rating. Overall, I’m optimistic about the final result.
The medical and nursing staff are truly exceptional
The clinic generally needs more space

FAQ about Breast reconstruction surgery in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is undergoing breast reconstruction surgery in Thailand safe?

Breast reconstruction in Thailand is safe when performed by board-certified plastic surgeons in hospitals accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI) or similar bodies. Leading Bangkok facilities meet global safety standards, employing surgeons with extensive international training from institutions in the USA, Canada, and Taiwan.

  • Surgical credentials: Qualified surgeons often hold Thai Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery certification.
  • Hospital standards: Facilities like Sikarin Hospital maintain JCI and ISO international standards.
  • Patient volume: Large centres such as Wansiri Hospital treat over 2,000 international patients annually.
  • Clinical technology: Top-tier hospitals use robotic surgery and digital imaging to assist complex reconstructions.
  • Medical infrastructure: Major Bangkok hospitals occupy dedicated surgical centres with 24-hour intensive care support.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand is a major hub for complex cases, with surgeons like Dr Saran Wannachamras at Wansiri Hospital specialising in both breast and gender-affirming reconstructions. While costs range from $4,600 to $5,700, patients should choose high-volume hospitals over small clinics. These larger institutions have on-site blood banks and multidisciplinary teams essential for managing post-mastectomy cases.

Patient Consensus: Success in Thailand involves planning for wound care and drain management after returning home. Patients suggest staying in-country longer than the minimum package time to manage initial swelling.

Can breast reconstruction be performed at the same time as my mastectomy?

Immediate breast reconstruction can be performed simultaneously with a mastectomy in Thailand. This procedure allows patients to wake from surgery with a breast shape, often providing emotional comfort while reducing the number of operations. Leading Bangkok hospitals coordinate oncology and plastic surgery teams for these combined sessions.

  • Breast shape: Patients avoid the experience of a flat chest after cancer surgery.
  • Fewer surgeries: Mastectomy and initial reconstruction occur under one session of general anaesthesia.
  • Cosmetic results: Surgeons can often preserve the natural skin envelope and sometimes the nipple.
  • Expert care: Specialists like Dr Saran Wannachamras at Wansiri Hospital are recognised breast surgery experts.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While single-stage surgery sounds efficient, top-tier Bangkok clinics like Bumrungrad International often recommend tissue expanders first. This approach allows the skin to stretch safely over time. This is especially useful if radiation therapy is needed later, as it protects the final cosmetic result.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand found that waking up with a breast mound helped their emotional recovery. They noted that while the process often requires minor follow-up adjustments, having a coordinated surgical team made the transition feel seamless.

What types of breast reconstruction options are available?

Breast reconstruction options in Thailand include implant-based methods or autologous tissue flap surgery, performed immediately with a mastectomy or as a delayed procedure. Leading Bangkok centres provide advanced techniques like DIEP flaps and hybrid reconstruction using JCI-accredited facilities and board-certified plastic surgeons.

  • Implant-based reconstruction: Uses silicone implants or temporary tissue expanders to rebuild breast volume.
  • Autologous flap surgery: Reconstructs the breast using your own tissue from the abdomen or back.
  • DIEP flap: Premium abdominal tissue technique that spares muscle for faster physical recovery.
  • Hybrid reconstruction: Combines tissue flaps with implants for improved volume and natural contours.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic reconstructions start from $4,600, multi-stage procedures involving symmetry revisions on the healthy breast are common. Clinics such as Sikarin Hospital and Wansiri Hospital specifically cater to Australians, ensuring support pathways after you return home.

Patient Consensus: Reconstruction is typically a multi-stage journey involving symmetry adjustments and nipple work. Success depends on discussing radiation history early and choosing surgeons who offer complete post-operative care.

How long must I stay in Thailand after the surgery?

Patients should plan to stay in Thailand for 7 to 14 days after breast reconstruction. This timeframe allows surgeons to monitor wound healing, manage surgical drains, and remove dressings. You must receive an official fit-to-fly clearance to avoid risks like deep vein thrombosis during the flight home.

  • Clinical monitoring: Most patients spend 1 to 2 nights in a private hospital ward.
  • Drain management: Surgeons usually remove surgical drains within 5 to 10 days post-op.
  • Wound assessment: Final check-ups ensure no signs of infection or seroma before departure.
  • Travel buffer: Booking flexible flights allows for extra recovery time if swelling persists.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients underestimate the complexity of flying with surgical drains. Major Bangkok centres, like Bumrungrad International Hospital, often suggest a full 14-day stay. This ensures drains are out and wounds are stable, which significantly improves comfort during a long-haul flight back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Staying longer than the minimum 7 days helps manage the discomfort of surgical drains. Patients recommend flexible travel dates to handle unexpected fluid monitoring and to ensure wound dressings are professionally changed in Thailand.
