How Much Does DIEP Flap Reconstruction (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap Surgery) Cost in Thailand in AUD?

DIEP flap reconstruction in Thailand typically costs between AUD $12,280 / ฿A417,509 and AUD $21,670 / ฿A736,780. Final prices depend on the microsurgery complexity, hospital stay duration, and surgeon expertise. In Australia, patients often face costs of AUD $53,453 / ฿A1,817,391 for similar private procedures. By choosing Thailand, Australians can save approximately 68%. Packages often include surgeon fees, anaesthetic, and several nights of hospital recovery.

  • Bilateral reconstruction: typically adds 40–50% more to the single breast reconstruction cost.
  • Hospital location: clinics in Bangkok surgical hubs often carry a price premium over smaller cities.
  • Surgical complexity: intricate microsurgery to reconnect tiny blood vessels increases the total theatre time and cost.
  • Inpatient care: most packages include 3–5 nights of specialised nursing care after the procedure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Thailand is known for affordable aesthetics, DIEP flap surgery requires elite microsurgery skills. Preecha Aesthetic Institute in Bangkok stands out as a leader in reconstructive fields. Established in 2002, they maintain a team of 18 specialised doctors. Choosing an institute with this longevity helps Australians find the right balance between cost and expertise. Their focus on reconstructive surgery provides a higher level of technical security for complex flap transfers.

Data verified by Bookimed as of July 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 5 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

I’m feeling better than expected this early on
My main worries before the procedure were the recovery process and the final look of the scars. My surgeon was very direct about both, clearly explaining the realistic results, the swelling timeline, and exactly where the incisions for my full neck lift would be placed behind the ears. This honesty was appreciated. The procedure was done under general anesthesia, and I’m feeling better than expected this early on. The clinic’s support has been solid; they gave me a clear aftercare guide and have been easy to reach with questions. It was also a relief that there were no additional expenses on top of the quoted price.

The clinic staff were competent, and the surgeon was clear in our consultations
Waking up, I felt groggy but managed. The clinic staff were competent, and the surgeon was clear in our consultations. The incision was placed under the breast, which is what I wanted. I am still in the early recovery phase, and it has its challenges. My pain has lessened to a mild discomfort, but sleeping through the night is difficult, and my nipples are uncomfortably hypersensitive. Overall, the medical care was solid, though the recovery process itself is demanding. It’s a serious undertaking.

Despite the discomfort, the clinic, the staff, and my surgeon were all fantastic and provided great care
Monsplaty, Tummy Tuck and 360 Liposuction. My biggest concern going into this was what the recovery would actually feel like. It's not easy. The most challenging part has definitely been the constant tight feeling, which is something to be prepared for. My surgeon used a combination of liposuction and excision. Right now there is still some swelling, so it’s too early to know how my clothes will fit differently in the end. Despite the discomfort, the clinic, the staff, and my surgeon were all fantastic and provided great care. It was a professional and supportive environment, and I'm glad I made the choice to go there.
Very clean, very inviting. After care was good too. Everything was quick and easy. Communication via whatsapp made things easier as well. I travelled solo and the staff helped that little extra.
After surgery garments are not forgiving for us longer torso people. They were a bit short which added a lil discomfort when it rolled at the back. Other than that everything was really good.

Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected
Seeing the surgical site for the first time was the moment everything finally felt real. Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected. We used the penile inversion technique, and while the results look promising, the recovery requires a lot of patience and steady commitment to the healing process. My biggest challenge at this stage is definitely the physical discomfort of being seated for a long time. It is a process. The clinic staff has been very attentive during my stay, and I am expecting to have the catheter removed very soon. To anyone else preparing for this surgery, it’s not easy but it is a good experience overall.

Just trust them
What really stood out was sitting with my doctor before the procedure to draw the beard shape together. That personal approach made a huge difference. Honestly, so far I'm feeling better than expected. The procedure was done using the FUE technique. The clinic’s support afterward has been great; they provided a clear aftercare guide and have stayed in touch with me. It was also a relief that there were no additional expenses on top of what I had paid. My advice for a future patient? Just trust them. They know what they are doing!
Excellent staff. Really took care of me. Wjile the full effects of my procedure will take several months to show. I'm very pleased so far of the outcome. They are very accommodating and generous with their time
Some language issues but some of the staff speak English well enough that it really isn't a problem

What truly stood out was my surgeon, who was honest about realistic results from the start and personally handled both the consultation and the surgery
I was thinking that going into a revision was getting unrealistic promises. What truly stood out was my surgeon, who was honest about realistic results from the start and personally handled both the consultation and the surgery. It gave me confidence. My alarplasty was done to correct an asymmetric nose, and while I'm still in the early stages of healing, it’s really too early to tell what the final outcome will be. The staff were supportive, providing a clear aftercare guide for my recovery at home. I also appreciated that there were no additional expenses on top of what I had already paid the clinic.
Caring nurses & Dr. was nice
The clinic itself was a bit run down looking.

the care provided by the surgeon and the staff was impeccable
My one-off operation went very well and the care provided by the surgeon and the staff was impeccable, apart from a few minor language issues. However, you should be prepared for a few additional costs that were not included in the original price: we had to pay for the transfers between the hotel and the clinic ourselves, and the wound care supplies were insufficient, which amounted to a mid-double-digit sum in total. My most important tip for future patients would be to make absolutely sure you clarify any dietary requirements (vegetarian/halal/...) with the clinic before you arrive.
The coordination team is very dedicated and always available. The staff are consistently very friendly and go out of their way to help. A very comprehensive package with extensive, thorough preliminary examinations and no hidden costs. A superbly equipped single room, including a sofa bed for an accompanying person.
Contrary to what was advertised, there was no interpreter. The nursing staff, in particular, did not always have a good enough command of English to explain everything clearly and in detail. The consultation with the surgeon was less detailed than expected. It wasn’t always entirely clear which services were included in the package and which weren’t (particularly transfers) – but there were no major hidden costs. Hospital food/light meals after operations are always a challenge, and perhaps even more so in a different cultural context – I wasn’t asked about any specific dietary preferences, so anyone who absolutely needs vegetarian, vegan, kosher or halal food should definitely clarify this in advance; in my opinion, the hospital bed was very hard, which is significantly more uncomfortable when you can’t move around much

I'm confident in my choice and would recommend this clinic
My biggest worry was how the results would actually look and feel afterward. Now that I'm in the early stages of recovery from the fat transfer graft, I can say the outcome is positive. The girth is already noticeably thicker. Everything is still slightly numb, as expected, but the visual change is definitely there. The surgeon and the entire staff were professional and clear with all information, which helped manage my concerns from the beginning. It's a relief. Based on the care I received and the initial results, I'm confident in my choice and would recommend this clinic.

The most reassuring part of the whole process was sitting with the surgeon before we started
The most reassuring part of the whole process was sitting with the surgeon before we started. He took the time to draw the hairline with me and clearly explained the entire FUE extraction and implantation process, which helped manage my expectations for the 2,000-3,000 graft procedure. Now in the early stages of healing, I'm feeling about as expected. The clinic has stayed in touch, which is good. Overall, it was a solid experience with the surgeon and staff, and I appreciated that there were no additional expenses on top of what I was quoted.

The entire staff and my surgeon were great and supportive through it all
My biggest fear was the recovery, and it’s certainly a process that requires patience. The entire staff and my surgeon were great and supportive through it all. Right now, my chin is still very swollen, so I can't properly see the projection from the large, solid silicone implant yet. The numbness has been the hardest part. My lower lip feels slightly numb, which has made eating the biggest challenge so far. It’s a strange sensation. Despite the temporary side effects of healing, the care I received was solid and I would recommend this clinic.
Really loved the stuff they were very cute and helpful

My breathing is now even better than before
My biggest concern was that the result might look unnatural or that my breathing might be affected. Neither of these things happened. In fact, my breathing is now even better than before. During the open rhinoplasty, a small bump was removed and the bridge of my nose is now, even so soon after the procedure, already straighter, just as I wanted. In addition, the tip of my nose already looks much more defined. The staff and the surgeon were consistently supportive and answered all my questions patiently, which gave me a great deal of reassurance. I felt I was in good hands.

The surgeon and the whole medical team have been absolutely brilliant
I was really worried about the recovery period, and the truth is it hasn’t been as easy as I expected. My stomach is still swollen, and the compression garments are still tight, but the hardest part so far has been dealing with the annoying numb patches. That said, the surgeon and the whole medical team have been absolutely brilliant. The doctor explained to me that he used ultrasound technology (VASER) and removed between 3 and 4 litres of fat, and I felt I was in safe hands with them. Unfortunately, the clinic’s facilities weren’t up to the same standard as the quality of medical care, which is why I’ve given it a lower rating. Overall, I’m optimistic about the final result.
The medical and nursing staff are truly exceptional
The clinic generally needs more space

My surgeon was excellent, a definite 5/5
If you're considering a tummy tuck, know that the recovery is a real process. My surgeon was excellent, a definite 5/5. He performed a full tuck and repositioned my belly button, and everything already feels very tight, which is good. My biggest challenge right now is the compression garment; it's just a constant presence. While the surgeon was fantastic, there were some minor organizational points with the clinic and staff that could have been smoother. It's still too early to see the final flat result with all the healing left to do, but I feel confident in my choice. I would give this clinic a 9/10 recommendation to a friend.
The doctor he is excellent .soft spoken ,attentive and a great surgeon.
Rooms could be bigger so that attendant could stay at night. They have a reclining sofa not suitable for night sleeping. Front desk managers could be more attentive to every detail.

The surgeon and the staff were fantastic from start to finish
My biggest worry was whether I'd see a real difference after having Vaser on multiple areas, especially since they removed over four liters. It’s still early, but the swelling is much less now, and I can definitely see subtle changes taking shape. The surgeon and the staff were fantastic from start to finish. They are a solid team. The main challenge for me is just the compression garment making my skin itchy, but that's part of recovery. While the clinic facilities were generally fine, they weren't on the same level as the medical care itself. It's a process. Overall, I feel this was a worthwhile decision.
Almost 2 weeks post-lipo with Dr. Phatcharasak Kraisornphongsakul at ID Clinic. The bruising is fading and my clothes are fitting so much better already. My abdomen feels tighter, waist more defined, and inner thighs no longer rubbing as much when I walk. So happy I took this step for myself.

FAQ about DIEP Flap Reconstruction (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap Surgery) in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the key advantages of DIEP flap reconstruction compared to other breast reconstruction techniques in Thailand?

DIEP flap reconstruction in Thailand uses the patient's own abdominal tissue, preserving muscles for faster recovery and a natural breast shape. It also tightens the abdomen, offering a tummy tuck effect. This natural, permanent method often suits patients after radiation therapy better than implants.

  • Natural tissue used: no implants needed, reducing long-term risks.
  • Muscle preservation: protects abdominal strength and speeds recovery.
  • Tummy tuck effect: removes excess abdominal fat, contouring the belly.
  • Permanent results: reconstructed breast ages naturally with the body.
  • Preferred after radiation: safer than implants for irradiated patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand’s main clinic for DIEP flap leads in reconstructive surgery since 2002, with surgeons experienced in using autologous tissue only. Australian patients benefit from techniques that avoid implants, reducing complications and securing natural results.

Patient Consensus: Patients find DIEP reconstruction in Thailand gives a softer, natural breast and a flatter belly. Recovery takes time, but many appreciate the lasting feel and look compared with implants. Most highlight the care with follow-up suits Australians well.

What is the recovery timeline for DIEP flap reconstruction surgery in Thailand?

DIEP flap reconstruction recovery in Thailand typically takes 7–8 weeks with initial mild pain and limited core movement. Most patients begin light activities by week 4–6 and see significant improvement around 2 months, though some soreness and revision surgeries may extend recovery.

  • Initial recovery: 2–3 weeks with gentle pain and restricted abdominal movement.
  • Light activity: Starts by week 4–6, including walking and light core work.
  • Full recovery: Around 7–8 weeks; soreness can persist longer.
  • Follow-up care: Physical therapy is usually recommended after week 6 for shoulder and back pain.
  • Revision surgery: Common 2–3 months after due to fat loss affecting breast shape.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Staying in Thailand for at least 2–3 weeks post-surgery matches local follow-up timelines and helps ensure better flap monitoring. Using a medical recliner for the first 2–3 weeks is a practical tip from patients, aiding rest and healing. Revision surgeries are common, so verifying surgeon policies up front avoids surprises.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand find the first 8 weeks critical, with slow mobility making button-up shirts and loose clothes easier. Physical therapy around week 6 often helps ease shoulder stiffness. Many expect a few revision surgeries for final breast shape.

Why choose Thailand for DIEP flap breast reconstruction surgery?

Thailand is a top choice for DIEP flap breast reconstruction because it offers skilled surgeons, natural tissue reconstruction, and JCI-accredited hospitals. The surgery uses the patient's own abdominal fat, producing a natural feel and longer-lasting results compared to implants.

  • Natural tissue reconstruction: Uses patient’s own abdominal fat and skin.
  • Skilled surgeons: Specialist experience in DIEP flap surgery in Bangkok clinics.
  • JCI-accredited care: Quality standards in hospitals ensure safe, streamlined treatment.
  • Recovery timeline: Full healing typically takes about 2 months with post-op care.
  • Post-op support: Manual lymphatic drainage and scar management improve recovery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand’s clinics often include private recovery suites and translated staff, easing the process for Australians. While only a few clinics offer DIEP flap, those surgeons focus deeply on this complex surgery, giving good outcomes without the long wait times common elsewhere.

Patient Consensus: Patients appreciate the natural feel of their reconstructed breast and smooth post-op care in Thailand. They find the medical team supportive and the recovery process manageable with local support, making the whole experience less stressful for Australians.

What is typically included in the DIEP flap reconstruction surgery package in Thailand?

DIEP flap reconstruction surgery packages in Thailand usually cover surgeon and anaesthetist fees, hospital stay with nursing care, medications, surgical supplies, and follow-up visits. Many packages include airport transfers and private hospital rooms, ensuring smooth care from surgery through initial recovery at reputable Bangkok clinics like Preecha Aesthetic Institute.

  • Surgeon fees: cover plastic surgeons and microsurgery specialists involved.
  • Hospital stay: usually includes private room, nursing care, and meals.
  • Medications and supplies: all surgical dressings and prescribed drugs included.
  • Follow-up: initial post-op checks and suture removal are part of the package.
  • Transport: many clinics offer airport pick-up and drop-off for patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics often tailor packages to clarify inclusion of internal bras or nerve-sparing techniques. Australian patients benefit from checking if travel support for companions and insurance paperwork for Medicare claims are included, as these details vary widely across providers.

Patient Consensus: Patients appreciate clear quotes detailing surgeon fees, hospital stay length, and aftercare in Thailand. They advise confirming if airport transfers and accommodation for companions are included to avoid surprises.

How do I select the best hospital for DIEP flap reconstruction surgery in Thailand?

Choosing the best hospital for DIEP flap reconstruction in Thailand means prioritising microsurgery expertise, JCI accreditation, and advanced post-op care. Facilities like Bumrungrad and Vejthani International deliver high surgical precision and integrated care vital for successful breast reconstruction.

  • JCI accreditation: Ensures top safety and quality standards for long, complex surgeries.
  • Microsurgery expertise: Surgeons must specialise in intricate flap reconstructions.
  • Post-op support: ICU and vascular monitoring are crucial for flap survival.
  • Integrated teams: Look for centres combining oncology and plastic surgeons.
  • Patient reviews: Use platforms like Estheticon to check surgeon outcomes and photos.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian patients benefit from hospitals offering extended recovery support—8–10 weeks in Thailand is standard. Also, a smaller surgical team with highly trained microsurgeons tends to mean better results. Facilities like Bumrungrad and Vejthani balance international standards with hands-on surgeon care.

Patient Consensus: Patients highlight surgeon skill over hospital size. Many recommend verifying surgeon success through reviews and patient photos. Staying in Thailand for 8+ weeks helps with recovery comfort and flap monitoring after surgery.
