How Much Does Nephrectomy Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Nephrectomy in Turkey typically costs from AUD $15,062 to AUD $23,569, depending on whether the surgeon uses open, laparoscopic, or robotic techniques. In Australia, similar procedures cost around AUD $33,889 on average, meaning patients save approximately 43%. Most Turkish packages include the surgical fees, hospital stay, anaesthesia, and airport transfers as standard.

  • Nephrectomy with Da Vinci Robot: AUD $13,946 to AUD $22,314 for advanced robotic precision.
  • Kidney-sparing surgery: AUD $12,551 to AUD $20,919 for partial removal of affected tissue.
  • Laparoscopic approach: Typically adds a 20–30% premium over open surgery but reduces recovery times.
  • Package inclusions: Higher-tier options often bundle 4-star hotel stays and 24-hour nursing services.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing specialized centres often provides better value than general hospitals. Men's Health Clinics, for example, offers all-inclusive packages for approximately A$16,800. This includes a 10-night hotel stay for a comfortable recovery. For complex cases, Anadolu Medical Center is accredited by OECI and often ranks among the top global hospitals for oncology. They provide robotic radical nephrectomy for about A$33,600, including hospitalisation and transfers.

Data verified by Bookimed as of August 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 139 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

The staff were a definite highlight, providing excellent support and guidance throughout the PET-CT with Gallium 68 PSMA scan
I came away with a positive overall impression of the day. The staff were a definite highlight, providing excellent support and guidance throughout the PET-CT with Gallium 68 PSMA scan. They made me feel looked after. The doctor was professional and the clinic itself was well-equipped. My only negative, and the reason for a lower overall score, was the airport transfer. The taxi was difficult for me to get in and out of. More importantly, upon arrival at the airport, I could not find the driver at the designated meeting point, which created unnecessary stress. While the medical care was handled very well, the logistics of the transport could be improved.

It was the right choice
What worried me most was the uncertainty and what the treatment plan would be. But my fears were put to rest after the very first consultation. The doctor was very attentive and explained everything in detail and calmly, which immediately put me at ease. I really appreciate that approach. All the staff at the clinic were responsive and supportive at every stage. The clinic itself made a good impression; everything is well organised. I am currently in the recovery phase and feel much calmer, having a clear understanding of the next steps. It was the right choice.

The surgeon was excellent
What surprised me most about my basalioma treatment wasn't the procedure itself, but the detailed skin examination I received. The surgeon was excellent. He made sure all removal options were discussed clearly, which was reassuring since I already had my diagnosis before arriving. Right now, the treated area is healing very well. While the medical care was superb and the clinic facilities are great, the administrative staff seemed a bit disorganized, which was the only downside. Despite that, based on the surgeon’s work, it’s a place I would suggest to others.
My Bookimed coordinator was highly skilled, had the passion and patience for her work and that translated to the numerous array of options provided to me to choose from based on my budget during the entire process. She interacted with me 24/7 just for us to have solution within my schedule. All information (proforma, visa assistance, travel guidance and estimated personal expenses) for the entire treatment were on point and I encourage all manner of persons seeking medical treatment abroad to choose Bookimed as their medical tourism partner.
1. Interpreter only come when the patient calls for his services and that is only during the day. If the interpreter can also support beyond the interactions with the specialist. 2. Airport and Internal movement are left to the patient to handle which can sometimes be a major challenge for some category of patients and given the language barrier. 3. Hospital discharges are very strict even if you the patient feels he/she need additional day(s) to be fit for a return to the hotel to continue the recovery.

The doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process
My main concern before starting treatment was how my body would react to the drug. I’m undergoing a course of Keytruda immunotherapy for kidney cancer, receiving an infusion every three weeks. Yes, I have experienced some side effects. These are mainly digestive issues, and I feel a little more tired. Of course, I am still concerned that these might get worse over time. But I must say that the doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process.

When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10
My biggest worry was finding a surgeon and team I could completely trust for this personal procedure. That concern disappeared quickly. From the first consultation, the surgeon was professional and the staff were consistently kind, which made the whole process feel secure and well-managed. I'm still in the early stages of healing, but the level of care has been excellent. Everything was clear. When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10. The support has been fantastic.
Coordinator stayed in touch .The clinic exceeded expectations.I wanted to thank Dr. Baris Nuhoglu and his assistant, who took impeccable care of me. They listened to me and resolved a problem that was very serious and causing me discomfort. On May 19th, they gave me a new birth with professionalism, seriousness, and empathy.I have e big gratitude and deep respect to Dr. Baris and his team, and I wish to return in a few months for a check-up and, who knows, maybe for another new treatment.😁😉👍

Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience
My biggest concern before the operation was the recovery period, but now, 15 days after the prosthetic testicle implant surgery, I can say that things are going as expected. I received a small prosthesis measuring 3.5 cm; although I’m not sure of the brand, I’m satisfied with it. The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience. Everything went well. The recovery period is going well and without any problems so far.

The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all!
Translators were top notch! Everything was amazing, I can't select just one thing.
Had issue with payment, it kept getting rejected and due to this I wasn't admitted right away. But once payment went through, all services followed smoothly.

Dear readers, if anyone wants to be treated abroad, come specifically to Florence Nightingale and find Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir and you will not go wrong with your choice
I, Temirbek Ormotoev came from Kyrgyzstan, I chose Florence Nightingale Hospital which was helped by bookimed company and the staff of this company liked me, especially I am happy to deal with Professor Ahmet-Tunch Ozdemir. Today is the 3rd day after the operation performed by Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir. The operation was done wonderfully, I am satisfied and also the hospital conditions and medical staff were top notch, everyone is polite to the patients, especially the head nurse and nurse Linhai were very good at patient care. Why did I choose Florence Nightingale specifically? Because this hospital is one of the advanced hospitals in Turkey and there is a DaVinci robotised system. I have a neoplasm in my kidney over 30 mm. Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir performed the operation within 1.5 hours and he has golden hands. Dear readers, if anyone wants to be treated abroad, come specifically to Florence Nightingale and find Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir and you will not go wrong with your choice. I was discharged on the second day after surgery, I feel great and recovery is underway. In terms of the cost of paying for the surgery, compared to other clinics in Turkey, it is realistic and inexpensive. Mr Ahmet-Tunc Ozdemir, my family and I wish you good health, longevity, good luck in everything and that you stay for a long time saving patients from various diseases, Allah help you. I am also grateful to the medical coordinators of bookimed platform, Liana, who from the very beginning until today accompanies and helps with treatment abroad and assistants named Alisher, translator Aigerim, who know their business professionally. Thank you all who helped me with this situation, Allah bless us all.
Liked Prof Ahmet-Tunç Özdemir, service, medical staff, clinic, overall everything is good.

Our Nephrectomy Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Nephrectomy, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Kidney-sparing surgery

Renal resection involves removing part of the kidney to treat conditions like tumors while preserving kidney function.

Pros: Preserves kidney function, reducing the risk of chronic kidney disease. Higher patient satisfaction with functional outcomes, retaining up to 80% of kidney function post-surgery.
Cons: More complex than kidney extraction with potential for longer surgical times. Increased risk of complications like bleeding or urine leakage.
Effectiveness: Success rates can reach up to 90% in preserving renal function and removing tumors.
Duration: 3-4 hours
Recovery: 2-6 weeks
Best for: Suitable for patients with small renal tumors (less than 4 cm) or bilateral kidney issues.
Prices: Cost of Kidney-sparing surgery in Turkey from AUD $12,551

Nephrectomy with Da Vinci Robot

This procedure involves the robotic-assisted removal of a kidney using the Da Vinci surgical system for precision and minimally invasive operation.

Pros: Provides enhanced precision with 3D visualization and robotic arms, reducing blood loss by up to 50%. Shorter hospital stay compared to traditional laparoscopic nephrectomy. Quicker recovery time.
Cons: Requires access to advanced robotic technology, which may not be available in all hospitals. Longer setup time compared to traditional methods.
Effectiveness: Success rate of over 95% in complete kidney removal for cancer treatment.
Duration: 3-4 hours
Recovery: 2-4 weeks
Best for: Patients with renal tumors or kidney cancer, especially when precision is critical. Suitable for individuals seeking minimally invasive surgery.
Prices: Cost of Nephrectomy with Da Vinci Robot in Turkey from AUD $13,946

FAQ about Nephrectomy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Which clinics in Turkey are known for nephrectomy?

Leading Turkish hospitals for nephrectomy include Anadolu Medical Centre, Memorial Şişli, and Hisar Hospital Intercontinental. These JCI-accredited facilities specialise in robotic and laparoscopic kidney removal. Surgeons there often perform kidney-sparing procedures using da Vinci technology. This preserves renal function and speeds up recovery.

  • Anadolu Medical Centre: Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine and ranked among the top 10 global hospitals.
  • Memorial Şişli Hospital: First Turkish hospital to earn JCI accreditation with a 90% transplant success rate.
  • Hisar Hospital Intercontinental: Features a specialised urology unit and provides free interpreters in 15+ languages.
  • Medical Park Antalya: Largest private hospital in the Mediterranean region specialising in complex organ transplants.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Centre's direct affiliation with Johns Hopkins Medicine offers a distinct advantage for Australians. Prof. Dr. Vafi Atalay even developed a unique surgical technique there. It is now used globally. This academic integration means surgical protocols meet the highest international safety standards.

Patient Consensus: Australians often choose major private hospital groups like Memorial or Acıbadem. They appreciate the cleanliness and thorough staff. Patients recommend confirming the surgeon's specific case volume and ICU access before booking. They also value clinics with clear English communication. They appreciate written discharge plans for their return home.

Is it safe to live with only one kidney after nephrectomy?

Living with one kidney after a nephrectomy is safe. This is because a single healthy kidney provides up to 75% of normal function. Most individuals maintain a normal life expectancy without significant lifestyle changes. Success depends on protecting the remaining organ. This means monitoring blood pressure, having regular GP check-ups, and avoiding nephrotoxic medications like ibuprofen.

  • Compensatory growth: The remaining kidney naturally enlarges and works harder to filter blood efficiently.
  • Physical activity: Specialists recommend avoiding high-contact sports to prevent direct trauma to the organ.
  • Medical monitoring: Annual blood tests and urinalysis track GFR levels and kidney health status.
  • Dietary balance: Maintaining a low-salt diet and proper hydration reduces strain on renal function.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patient data shows that choosing robotic-assisted surgery can significantly ease the initial recovery period. One example is the Da Vinci system used by Dr Volkan Tugcu at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul. The long-term safety of living with one kidney is high. However, robotic techniques often reduce the early post-operative difficulty. Patients describe this as the hardest phase.

Patient Consensus: Life feels remarkably normal after the first few months. The most important habits in Turkey are staying hydrated and monitoring blood pressure. Getting yearly function tests is also vital.

What surgical techniques are used for nephrectomy in Turkey?

Specialists in Turkey perform nephrectomy using robotic-assisted, laparoscopic, and open surgical techniques. Most leading Turkish medical centres prioritise minimally invasive approaches. These include the da Vinci robotic system for radical and kidney-sparing procedures. These techniques offer higher precision, less blood loss, and faster recovery times.

  • Robotic-assisted nephrectomy: Surgeons use the da Vinci system for 3D visualisation and enhanced surgical precision.
  • Laparoscopic surgery: This keyhole approach uses small incisions to reduce scarring and post-operative pain.
  • Open nephrectomy: Specialists reserve this traditional approach for complex cases or very large renal tumours.
  • Kidney-sparing surgery: Surgeons remove only the tumour while preserving healthy tissue to maintain renal function.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Robotic surgery is the most advanced option. However, surgeon volume is the real quality indicator in Turkey. For instance, Dr Volkan Tugcu at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul has performed over 2,500 urological surgeries. Choosing a high-volume specialist often reduces the risk. A laparoscopic procedure is less likely to convert to open surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report that robotic and laparoscopic methods result in smaller scars. They also lead to quicker returns to daily life. Many advise walking early after surgery to relieve common gas pain. This pain is caused by abdominal inflation during keyhole procedures.

Can I return home safely after a nephrectomy in Turkey?

Returning home safely after a nephrectomy in Turkey is standard practice for international patients who follow guided clinical timelines. Most surgeons require a 10 to 14-day stay in the country following laparoscopic or robotic surgery. They grant medical clearance for long-haul flights to Australia only after this period.

  • Clinical stay: Patients typically spend 3 to 5 days in hospital for monitoring.
  • Travel window: Surgeons usually advise waiting 2 to 4 weeks before flying home.
  • Robotic advantage: Robotic-assisted techniques allow earlier movement. They often enable walking by day 5.
  • Mandatory documents: Patients must receive a fit-to-fly letter and English discharge summaries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centres like Liv Hospital Vadistanbul and Anadolu Medical Center specialise in robotic-assisted nephrectomy. Data shows patients opting for Da Vinci robotic surgery generally need less post-operative hotel time than those having open surgery. Open surgery packages often include longer hotel stays. Robotic options focus on intensive early recovery, which allows for safer long-distance travel sooner.

Patient Consensus: The coordination for transfers and hotel stays makes the recovery period in Turkey feel very structured. Having translators at every appointment and transport already organised removes the stress of navigating a foreign city while healing.

What are the common types of nephrectomy and what do they involve?

Nephrectomy involves removing all or part of a kidney through partial, radical, or simple surgical techniques. Surgeons in Turkey use open, laparoscopic, or robotic-assisted approaches like the da Vinci system. These procedures treat kidney cancer, severe organ damage, or facilitate living donor transplants.

  • Partial nephrectomy: Surgeons remove only diseased tissue to preserve healthy kidney function.
  • Radical nephrectomy: Surgeon removes the entire kidney, surrounding fat, and nearby lymph nodes.
  • Simple nephrectomy: Entire kidney removal for non-cancerous conditions without disturbing surrounding structures.
  • Nephroureterectomy: Complete removal of the kidney along with the ureter tube.
  • Robotic approach: Surgeons use da Vinci robotic arms for higher precision and smaller incisions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While partial nephrectomy seems less invasive, it is often more complex than full removal. Leading Turkish specialists like Dr Volkan Tugcu have performed 2,500+ urological surgeries. This high volume is critical: preserving kidney tissue requires suturing skills to prevent bleeding.

Patient Consensus: Turkish clinics provide comprehensive care including pre-op tests and language assistance. Patients undergoing robotic surgery report smaller scars and faster recovery times. Partial nephrectomy is preferred for small tumours to maintain long-term kidney health. Surgeons may switch from partial to radical removal if the tumour is complex.

How do I prepare for a nephrectomy?

Preparing for a nephrectomy requires medical clearance, medication adjustments, and logistical planning. Patients undergo blood tests and ECGs. Surgeons then perform open, laparoscopic, or robotic kidney removal under general anaesthesia. Choosing JCI-accredited Turkish hospitals involves confirming pre-operative screenings. It also means arranging post-surgery support for a 3–5 day hospital stay.

  • Medical tests: Undergo blood type checks, kidney function screens, and heart ECGs.
  • Medication stops: Cease blood thinners, NSAIDs, and herbal supplements 7–10 days prior.
  • Lifestyle changes: Stop all tobacco products 4 weeks before surgery for better healing.
  • Hospital hygiene: Shower with disinfectant soap and remove all jewellery or nail polish.
  • Home setup: Place everyday items at waist height to avoid bending after surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic packages include 3–5 nights in hospital, premium Turkish urology packages often bundle 6–10 hotel nights. These extended stays let surgeons like Dr Volkan Tugcu monitor recovery closely. They do so before patients fly back to Australia. Checking for inclusive "VIP transfers" is vital as these clinics handle all transport between the airport, hotel, and theatre.

Patient Consensus: Patients suggest using a small pillow between the abdomen and seatbelt for the car ride home. They also recommend wearing loose drawstring pants and slip-on shoes to avoid bending over or irritating incisions in Turkey.

How long does recovery after nephrectomy in Turkey take?

Recovery after nephrectomy in Turkey typically requires a 3 to 5 day hospital stay. Returning to daily activities then takes 4 to 6 weeks. Full internal healing usually takes 6 to 8 weeks. Returning to heavy lifting or driving also takes 6 to 8 weeks.

  • Hospitalisation period: Patients stay 3 to 5 days. This depends on whether the surgery is open or robotic.
  • Technique impact: Minimally invasive robotic or laparoscopic surgery reduces the initial recovery time. Recovery is faster than with open surgery.
  • Work resumption: Desk work is generally possible within 2 to 4 weeks for laparoscopic patients.
  • Activity restrictions: Surgeons advise avoiding heavy lifting and strenuous exercise. Patients should follow this for at least 6 to 8 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics often bundle extended recovery support into packages. For example, Liv Hospital Vadistanbul includes a 6-day hotel stay after a 3-day hospitalisation. This allows patients to remain near their surgeon during the critical first week. Complications like blood clots are most likely to occur in this period.

Patient Consensus: Recovery in Turkey takes weeks, not days, so plan for 6 weeks off work. Light walking starts early. However, car rides and sudden movements remain painful for several weeks during the healing process.

What follow-up care is required after nephrectomy in Turkey?

Follow-up care after nephrectomy in Turkey involves a multi-stage process. It monitors the remaining kidney and assesses healing. Patients typically have pathology reviews within 10 days of surgery. Long-term surveillance includes blood tests and imaging every 3 to 6 months for the first year. After that, it is done annually.

  • Clinical assessments: Surgeons review the pathology report to decide if more treatment is needed.
  • Imaging schedules: Computed tomography (CT) scans and chest X-rays monitor for any metastasis.
  • Kidney function: Regular blood tests track serum creatinine and eGFR to protect the remaining kidney.
  • Medication review: Patients must avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to prevent stress on the single kidney.
  • Physical limits: Recovery involves no heavy lifting for 6 weeks. It also includes early, gentle walking routines.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian patients often prefer clinics like Anadolu Medical Center or Liv Hospital Vadistanbul. These centres provide digital follow-up coordination through dedicated English-speaking case managers. This means the patient's GP in Australia receives all surgical records and pathology reports straight after discharge.

Patient Consensus: Surveillance schedules depend on the tumour pathology. They often start with scans every 3 months. Turkish clinics provide clear lifting limits. Patients emphasise that hydration is critical for single kidney health.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey after nephrectomy?

Patients typically stay in Turkey for 7 to 14 days after a nephrectomy. This allows time for surgical stability and fit-to-fly clearance. The required duration depends on the technique. Laparoscopic or robotic cases need 8 to 10 days. Open surgery usually requires at least 14 days after the operation.

  • Hospitalisation period: Specialists at JCI-accredited clinics usually require 3 to 5 days for initial monitoring.
  • Technique impact: Minimally invasive robotic methods typically allow for earlier hospital discharge and travel clearance.
  • Post-op follow-up: Surgeons schedule a mandatory final check 7 days after surgery to verify wound healing.
  • Travel safety: International flight approval requires a minimum 7-day wait to prevent deep vein thrombosis.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many all-inclusive packages include 3 days in hospital, patients booking robotic surgery with Dr Volkan Tugcu at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul often receive 6 days of hotel recovery. This extra cushion is vital for Australian patients facing long-haul flights where mobility and pain management are critical.

Patient Consensus: Plan for 2 weeks in Turkey. The first 7 days are hardest for moving and managing gas pain. Budgeting extra recovery time at a hotel means you can comfortably handle airport security and long flights home.

Why is Turkey a popular destination for nephrectomy?

Turkey is a leading hub for nephrectomy due to its concentration of Joint Commission International (JCI) accredited hospitals, high organ transplant success rates, and widespread use of Da Vinci robotic systems. Specialists perform minimally invasive kidney removal, offering patients significant savings of up to 72% compared to Australian private healthcare costs.

  • Robotic expertise: Surgeons use Da Vinci systems for kidney-sparing surgery to preserve healthy tissue function.
  • Accredited facilities: Leading centres like Memorial healthcare group and Anadolu Medical Center hold JCI and ISO certifications.
  • High volume: Major Turkish hospitals treat over 65,000 international patients annually. They manage complex renal oncology cases.
  • Global recognition: Providers like Anadolu Medical Center rank among the top 10 hospitals globally according to MTQUA.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many search for the lowest price, the real value in Turkey lies in clinical volume. Dr. Volkan Tugcu at Liv Hospital Vadistanbul has performed over 2,500 urological surgeries. This level of experience, combined with 99% transplant success rates at Memorial hospitals, provides a safety margin rarely found in lower-volume clinics.

Patient Consensus: Australians often choose Turkey because total costs, including international flights and 10-night hotel stays, remain far below private surgery in Australia. Patients appreciate the convenience of all-inclusive packages that bundle diagnostics, VIP transfers, and full-board accommodation into one clear price.
