I’m glad I chose this team for my care and would absolutely do so again
My biggest worry was the complexity of the procedure itself, especially since it turned out I needed a Vasoepididymostomy. However, the surgeon was very clear and reassuring from the first consultation. That put me at ease. The clinic staff were consistently supportive, and the entire process felt organized and professional. Recovery is a journey, and while there's still some healing to do, I feel like I was in very capable hands. Everything went smoothly. I’m glad I chose this team for my care and would absolutely do so again.

The result is already better than expected
What worried me most was how the final length would turn out, but the result is already better than expected. The team was faultless. My incision for the 3-piece Rigicon implant is healing cleanly, though the most difficult part of recovery has been just trying to sit comfortably. The clinic facility itself is why I gave a lower rating; it’s functional but feels dated. This did not detract from the quality of the medical attention, however. Based on the care from the staff and the surgeon, I would direct others here.
The whole experience overall was great. Dr Bugra Cetin made himself available throughout my time in Istanbul, when he wasn't in surgery, that made my trip easy. The staff at Bookimed addressed all my concerns day and night, with taxi, clinic and still with my recovery while back home. I got with my local Urologist for them to have a look at my surgical area and they were happy with the results so far and said everything looks perfect! Thanks Dr. Cetin and Team!
None, for Bookimed. Anytime I did have any issue with hotel and taxi service, the staff was spot on.

I won’t talk about the way this clinic conducts business, namely that the price starts to rise when you are already there and your passport is with the registrar, all this is nothing, if there was a result, but the result is this - Urology of this institution is completely bottom, here in the bookcomed they praised that you will have a professor, and so, a professor who, as it turned out, specializes in child circumcisions, spent at most three minutes on me when providing tests and descriptions of the disease, and two on the results and treatment prescriptions, well, okay, I think, the professor, he treats in a second, but no, I was treated, the result is zero, just zero. And you understand this: time, money and most importantly health, there are still a lot of moments, but you can close your eyes to all this, if you were cured, if you at least tried to think about it
How can I like something? What a funny questionnaire? I was not cured, what I liked was tea, it would have been a very good teahouse

After I got the address of the doctor needed, I managed to see him, but everyone was surprised by my visit. The doctor was not aware that I was going to meet him, the staff were all surprised. They were not aware of bookmed at all neither did they know the focal person who linked me with the hospital. The doctor told me he would send a preliminary report on the patient. I never got the report. Please let me know what happened? Is it scam or something?

FAQ about Kidney-sparing surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is kidney-sparing surgery (partial nephrectomy) and how is it performed in Turkey?

Kidney-sparing surgery, or partial nephrectomy, removes only the tumour, leaving healthy kidney tissue intact. In Turkey, experienced urology specialists perform this mainly via robotic-assisted or laparoscopic surgery, using small incisions for precise tumour removal and faster recovery with less pain and scarring.

  • Techniques available: robotic-assisted and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy.
  • Hospital stay: typically around 24 hours; full recovery in 4–6 weeks.
  • Top clinics include Memorial Şişli Hospital and Anadolu Medical Center.
  • Surgeons like Dr Murat Binbay and Dr Basri Cakiroglu specialise in kidney-sparing surgeries.
  • Most surgeries use general anaesthesia and advanced robotic systems for precision.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey’s leading hospitals, such as Anadolu Medical Center, combine JCI accreditation with Australian-friendly services like English-speaking coordinators. Packages often include hospital stays of 4 days and airport transfers, helping Aussies manage recovery. Surgeons with European and US training underpin low complication rates in robotic partial nephrectomy.

Patient Consensus: Aussie patients appreciate small incisions and quick recovery in Turkey. Many value hospital stays around one day and phased return to normal life over a month. The kidney heals well, with remaining tissue compensating effectively after surgery.

What is kidney-sparing surgery for stones in Turkey?

Kidney-sparing surgery for stones in Turkey removes kidney stones while protecting healthy kidney tissue. Minimally invasive methods like ureteroscopy and lithotripsy ensure precise stone removal without major kidney damage. Hospital stays usually last around 4 days with general anaesthesia.

  • Techniques used: laparoscopic and robot-assisted surgeries for kidney stone removal.
  • Hospital stay: about 4 days, varies by clinic and surgery type.
  • Anaesthesia: general anaesthesia is standard for these procedures.
  • Surgeons at Memorial Şişli and Hisar Hospital are experienced in minimally invasive urology.
  • Verify follow-up care and recovery support when choosing treatment abroad.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics combine high surgical experience with robotic and laparoscopic tools for stone removal. Clinics like Memorial Şişli Hospital lead with JCI and ISO accreditation, ensuring quality and safety. Packages differ in hospital stay length and transfer options, so checking these helps plan better recovery.

Patient Consensus: Patients value Turkey’s kidney stone surgery for minimal kidney damage and fast recovery. Reviews highlight clear communication and smooth hospital transfers, making it reassuring for Australians travelling for treatment.

Will Turkish hospitals assist with accommodation and transfers for kidney-sparing surgery patients travelling from Australia?

Turkish hospitals often assist kidney-sparing surgery patients with airport transfers and hotel bookings. Leading hospitals in Istanbul like Anadolu Medical Center offer personal coordinators, interpreters, and transfer services from the airport to hospital and accommodation to support international patients.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: offers airport–hospital–airport transfers and hotel booking assistance.
  • Hisar Hospital Intercontinental: top-ranked for international patient services and assistance.
  • Memorial Şişli Hospital: JCI and ISO certified to ensure quality and patient safety.
  • International patient departments: provide logistical help and language support during hospital visits.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many top Turkish hospitals include airport transfers but might not cover hotel stays. Patients often use specialised agencies for full packages. Anadolu Medical Center stands out for combining transfers, personal coordinators, and help booking nearby hotels, easing travel from Australia.

Patient Consensus: Australian patients highlight personal coordinators who assist with travel plans and language help in Turkey. Transfers from the airport to hospital are commonly arranged, but hotel bookings may require separate organisation or agency support.

Are kidney-sparing procedures for kidney stones in Turkey painful?

Kidney-sparing procedures for kidney stones in Turkey are performed under general anaesthesia, causing no pain during surgery. Post-operative discomfort is mild and easily controlled with standard painkillers. Minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques reduce pain and speed recovery.

  • General anaesthesia: ensures no pain during surgery.
  • Minimal post-op pain: mild soreness managed with paracetamol or tramadol.
  • Laparoscopic and robotic methods: reduce tissue trauma and recovery time.
  • Common discomfort: mild stent-related irritation if used, temporary and manageable.
  • Experienced surgeons: like Dr Basri Cakiroglu at Hisar Hospital perform these procedures safely.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey’s kidney-sparing clinics, such as Memorial Şişli Hospital and Anadolu Medical Center, combine JCI accreditation and robotic techniques that ease post-op pain and shorten hospital stays. Coordinators often arrange Australian-specific support to help with language and logistics during recovery.

Patient Consensus: Patients say surgery pain is much less than passing stones naturally. Discomfort after surgery is mild and settles quickly. Australian patients recommend bringing a support person for smoother care in Turkey.

Can kidney-sparing surgery in Turkey treat all types of kidney stones?

Kidney-sparing surgery in Turkey does not treat all types of kidney stones universally. Treatment depends on the stone’s size, type, and location. Surgeons tailor techniques like laparoscopic partial nephrectomy or robotic-assisted surgery based on individual cases and stone characteristics.

  • Stone type limitations: Hard calcium and cystine stones can be challenging to remove fully.
  • Technique options: Includes laparoscopic, robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy, preserving kidney function.
  • Hospital stay: Typically 4 days included in surgery packages at top clinics like Anadolu Medical Center.
  • Surgeon expertise: Experienced surgeons in Istanbul, such as Dr Basri Cakiroglu and Dr Murat Binbay, handle complex cases.
  • Pre-surgery evaluation: Confirm stone composition and size with a nephrologist to guide surgery choice.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics accredited by Joint Commission International (JCI), like Memorial Şişli Hospital, combine robotic and laparoscopic methods. Australian patients often benefit from English-speaking coordinators and tailored kidney-sparing treatments matched to stone complexity and size.

Patient Consensus: Patients found Turkish clinics clear about which stone types respond best to surgery. Many valued consultations confirming stone details before treatment and appreciated the thorough care and support during hospital stays in Istanbul.

Why choose Turkey for kidney-sparing surgery for kidney stones?

Turkey offers kidney-sparing surgery with experienced urologists and advanced robotic and laparoscopic techniques. Leading Istanbul hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center provide JCI-accredited care, preserving kidney function safely while minimising recovery time and risks common in full kidney removal surgeries.

  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons perform minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic kidney-sparing surgeries.
  • JCI accreditation: Top clinics like Anadolu Medical Center hold Joint Commission International certification.
  • Preserving kidney function: Techniques remove stones while maintaining urine flow and long-term organ health.
  • Inclusive packages: Some clinics include airport transfers, anaesthesia, hospital stay, and English-speaking coordinators.
  • Cost savings: Procedures cost from $13,500 to $15,000, saving about 68% compared to Australia.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anatolian hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center combine robotic surgery with direct Australian patient experience, making Turkey a reliable choice. Clinics provide clear stent removal plans that minimise discomfort, which many patients overlook but greatly affect recovery.

Patient Consensus: Patients highlight kidney function preservation and quick, less painful recovery. They appreciate clear communication about stent removal and confirm credentials and accreditation before treatment in Turkey.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for kidney-sparing surgery for stones?

For kidney-sparing surgery for stones in Turkey, patients generally stay 3 to 4 days in hospital. Total trip time should cover pre-op, surgery and follow-ups, typically 5 to 7 days. Stent removal may extend stay to about a week if required.

  • Hospital stay: Usually 3 to 4 days for laparoscopic or robotic surgeries.
  • Recovery: Patients are mobile within 24–48 hours post-surgery.
  • Follow-up: One or two post-op checks, including stent removal if placed.
  • Flying advice: Avoid flights for 24–48 hours after surgery to reduce risks.
  • Procedure types: Minimally invasive options reduce hospital time compared to open surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey’s top clinics like Anadolu Medical Center include 3–4 hospital days in packages, ensuring thorough monitoring. Many patients prefer Istanbul clinics with JCI accreditation for quality and care. Planning 5–7 days total stay fits well with post-op checks and stent removal schedules.

Patient Consensus: Patients say staying a full 5 days in Turkey covers all hospital and follow-up needs. Most recover enough to travel by day 5–7 but find stent removal sometimes extends stay. Avoiding early flights eases travel discomfort and risks.

What should I bring to my kidney-sparing surgery consultation in Turkey for kidney stones?

For a kidney-sparing surgery consultation in Turkey, bring all recent imaging like CT scans and ultrasounds, blood and urine test results, and records of previous kidney stone treatments. Prepare a detailed list of current medications and allergies, plus a passport and written symptom notes. This gives the surgeon a full picture.

  • Imaging files: CT, ultrasound, or X-rays in printed and digital form.
  • Medical records: Blood tests, urine analysis, stone history, and previous urology notes.
  • Medication and allergies: Include blood thinners, supplements, herbal remedies, and allergy details.
  • Patient details: Written symptoms summary and passport with valid travel dates.
  • Cash: Small denominations for minor hospital expenses like vending machines.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Top Turkish hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Şişli Hospital are JCI-accredited and often include airport transfers in packages. Some surgeons offer virtual pre-consultations to review medical records first, so having all tests ready upfront speeds up eligibility checks and planning.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey advise packing all old and recent scans plus test results, which helps surgeons understand the case quickly. Many note that bringing simple cash and a clear questions list makes consultations smoother and less stressful.

How can I prevent kidney stones after kidney-sparing surgery in Turkey?

Prevent kidney stones after kidney-sparing surgery in Turkey by drinking 2.5 litres of water daily and limiting salt, oxalate-rich foods, and animal protein. Attend follow-ups for stent removal and personalised advice. Avoid heavy lifting early on and monitor for infections.

  • Hydration: Drink 2.5 litres daily to dilute urine and flush minerals.
  • Diet control: Reduce salt, spinach, nuts, and red meat intake.
  • Follow-ups: Attend appointments for stent removal and urine tests.
  • Pain relief: Use paracetamol, not ibuprofen, to protect kidneys.
  • Infection watch: Report fever or painful urination promptly.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Top Turkish centres like Anadolu Medical Center offer kidney-sparing surgery with skilled surgeons and English-speaking coordinators, easing post-op follow-up for Australian patients. Staying hydrated remains key, especially given Turkey’s hospital stays of around 4 days to start recovery well under expert care.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey stress carrying a water bottle and avoiding caffeine to keep kidneys stone-free. They found Turkish doctors provide clear, tailored diets and follow-ups, making recovery straightforward and manageable for Australians.
