The final price depends on the chosen material, clinic location, and whether same-day digital milling is used. In Australia, similar procedures cost around AUD $2,262 on average. Patients save around 75% by travelling to Thailand. These dental costs generally include the initial consultation, local anaesthetic, and the crown fabrication.

  • Installation of PFM crown: AUD $566 to AUD $990 for durable porcelain-fused-to-metal options.
  • Zirconia crown installation: AUD $707 to AUD $848 for premium, metal-free aesthetic results.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian patients often find the highest value at specialised centres like Bangkok International Dental Center. This facility is a partner of Swiss manufacturer Ivoclar Vivadent and uses Straumann materials. Choosing such accredited clinics ensures access to the same premium components used in private Australian practices. While Bangkok and Phuket are popular hubs, these clinics frequently offer multi-tooth discounts that further increase savings for complex restorative work.

Data verified by Bookimed as of June 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 393 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

Our Dental Crown Installation Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Dental Crown Installation, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Zirconia Crown Installation

Tooth crown installation involves placing a zirconia cap over a damaged tooth to restore function and appearance.

Pros: High durability and strength, resisting fractures better than porcelain. Offers a 95% survival rate over 5 years, providing superior aesthetics without metal exposure.
Cons: Requires more tooth removal than some alternatives like temporary crowns. May cause wear on opposing teeth due to hardness.
Effectiveness: 95% success rate over 5 years.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: Not needed
Best for: Tooth restoration in visible areas, cavity repair, and improving bite alignment.
Prices: Cost of Zirconia crown installation in Thailand from AUD $694

Dental Crown Replacement

This procedure involves removing an existing crown and fitting a new one for improved function and aesthetics.

Pros: Offers enhanced durability and appearance. Eliminates risks of decay under the crown by up to 30% compared to porcelain crown installation. Faster than metal-ceramic crown procedures, taking less time for adjustments.
Cons: Can be more invasive than temporary crown options. Zirconia crown installation may offer better strength, reducing replacement frequency by 20%.
Effectiveness: Success rate of 95% for functional and aesthetic outcomes.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: Not needed
Best for: Replacing damaged crowns, improving bite alignment, and enhancing smile aesthetics.
Prices: Cost of Dental crown replacement in Thailand from AUD $707

Porcelain Crown Installation

This procedure involves fitting a porcelain cap over a tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance.

Pros: Porcelain crowns offer superior aesthetics with a 95% color match to natural teeth. They are more biocompatible than metal-ceramic crowns, reducing allergic reactions.
Cons: These crowns are less durable than zirconia crowns, with a higher risk of chipping. They require more tooth structure removal than zirconia or metal-ceramic options.
Effectiveness: 90% success rate in restoring function and aesthetics for up to 10-15 years.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: Not needed
Best for: Front teeth, cosmetic dentistry, and enamel protection. Ideal for those seeking superior aesthetics.
Prices: Cost of Porcelain crown installation in Thailand from AUD $356

Metal-ceramic crown

A metal-ceramic crown is a dental restoration that combines metal for strength and ceramic for a natural appearance.

Pros: High durability, lasting over 10 years with proper care. Natural-looking aesthetics with ceramic matching tooth color, unlike full metal crowns.
Cons: Metal can cause allergic reactions in some patients. More tooth structure removal needed compared to zirconia crowns.
Effectiveness: Success rate of 95% over 10 years.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: Not needed
Best for: Back teeth restoration, high bite forces, and long-term durability.

Temporary Crown

A temporary crown is a short-term solution for tooth restoration while waiting for a permanent crown.

Pros: Quick and easy to place, providing immediate protection to the tooth. Offers temporary comfort and functionality with minimal discomfort.
Cons: Not as durable as permanent options, lasting only a few weeks. Can dislodge or wear down easily with frequent use.
Effectiveness: Provides effective protection for up to 3-4 weeks.
Duration: 30-60 minutes
Recovery: Not needed
Best for: Short-term use for tooth decay, cavity repair, and enamel protection.
Prices: Cost of Temporary crown in Thailand from AUD $141

FAQ about Dental Crown Installation in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is it safe to have dental crown installation in Thailand?

Dental crown installation in Thailand is safe and reliable at internationally accredited facilities. Leading clinics in Bangkok and Phuket hold JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation and ISO certification. They employ specialists with training from the US and Australia for precision and hygiene.

  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Tarin Piangsuk hold American Board of Prosthodontics certification.
  • Quality materials: Clinics use original Straumann and Ivoclar Vivadent materials for durable, natural-looking results.
  • Digital precision: Many centres use CAD/CAM technology for same-day crowns and highly accurate fits.
  • Sterilisation standards: JCI-accredited hospitals such as Bumrungrad International follow rigorous international infection control protocols.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinical data shows many US-trained specialists work at major Bangkok centres. For example, Bangkok International Dental Center employs doctors trained at the University of Michigan. This background means they follow clinical protocols identical to those used in Australia.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand appreciate the polite staff and the quality of the restorative work. They recommend leaving extra time for final adjustments to check the fit before flying home.

Are dentists in Thailand qualified to perform dental crown installation?

Dentists in Thailand are highly qualified to perform dental crown installations. Leading clinicians often hold postgraduate qualifications from Australian, American, or European universities. Many provide international-standard restorative care using Zirconia and porcelain. They work within JCI-accredited facilities and clinics certified by the Dental Association of Thailand.

  • Specialist training: Many prosthodontists have 10+ years of experience and international postgraduate degrees.
  • Global accreditation: Major hospitals like Bumrungrad International hold JCI and GHA global healthcare certifications.
  • Quality materials: Clinics use recognised brands such as Straumann and Ivoclar Vivadent for restorations.
  • Technology integration: Facilities use 3D CT scans and panoramic X-rays for precise crown fitting.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand’s dental market is highly competitive. Clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center serve over 20,000 international patients annually. This volume means Thai specialists often handle more complex cases in one month than many suburban dentists see in a year. For patients, this translates to faster turnarounds and refined aesthetic results.

Patient Consensus: Patients report that staff in Thai clinics are professional and friendly. They recommend choosing reputable dental hospitals for complex crown work. This helps to ensure proper diagnostics and bite checks are completed before surgery in Thailand.

How long do dental crowns installed in Thailand typically last?

Dental crowns in Thailand typically last between 10 and 15 years. Premium materials like Zirconia often reach 20 years or more. Success rates exceed 90% over five years at JCI-accredited facilities. This also applies to specialists certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics.

  • Material durability: Zirconia and E-max crowns offer the longest life for high-pressure biting surfaces.
  • Clinical standards: Leading Bangkok centres maintain ISO 9001:2015 certification for laboratory and clinical safety.
  • Specialist expertise: Board-certified prosthodontists like Dr Tarin Piangsuk specialise in long-term restorative fit.
  • Diagnostic accuracy: Clinics such as Dentist at Home use CT scans for stable foundations.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data from 11,000+ Thai dental requests suggests longevity is highest at clinics using original Straumann and Ivoclar materials. While same-day crowns from $800 are convenient, laboratory-milled versions often provide a more precise long-term seal. Selecting a clinic with an on-site lab, like Bangkok International Dental Center, reduces the risk of future cementation failure.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report that crowns feel natural when bite adjustments are performed thoroughly before departure. Experience shows that professional staff and clear material discussions help results match Australian clinical standards.

What is the recommended duration of stay in Thailand for dental crown installation?

Patients typically need 5 to 7 days in Thailand for a standard dental crown installation. This timeframe allows for two essential appointments. The first visit involves tooth preparation and impressions. A 3 to 4 day laboratory waiting period follows before the final fitting.

  • First visit: This session covers the initial consultation, X-rays, and fitting a temporary crown.
  • Waiting period: Local laboratories usually take 2 to 4 days to fabricate permanent ceramic crowns.
  • Second visit: The dentist removes the temporary crown and cements the permanent one in place.
  • Buffer days: Extra time helps with bite adjustments, final polishing, or minor lab remakes.
  • Single-day option: Some clinics use CAD/CAM technology to complete the process in one day.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Australian patients expect a week-long stay. However, clinics like Dentist at home Clinic Chonburi offer lab-free workflows. Choosing a facility with on-site CAD/CAM tech can reduce your trip to 24 hours.

Patient Consensus: Visitors to Thailand suggest allowing a full week to handle adjustments. This ensures the bite feels natural. Most appreciate the professional staff and the friendly service during follow-up visits.

What is the typical procedure and appointment schedule for getting dental crowns in Thailand?

Traditional dental crowns in Thailand typically require two appointments over 3 to 7 days. Specialists prepare the tooth and place a temporary crown during the first visit. A second appointment occurs around 5 days later to fit the permanent restoration.

  • Consultation phase: Specialists perform panoramic X-rays or CT scans to assess tooth and root health.
  • Tooth preparation: The dentist shapes the enamel and takes digital impressions for the lab.
  • Temporary placement: A temporary shield protects the sensitive tooth while the permanent crown is milled.
  • Final cementation: Surgeons at Bangkok International Dental Center check bite alignment before permanent bonding.
  • Same-day options: Technology like CEREC allows some Bangkok clinics to provide crowns in one day.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like SmileBox serve over 1,600 patients annually and use in-house digital labs. This allows for faster adjustments or same-day fittings that usually cost from $800. This reduces the holiday time required compared to standard 7-day lab turnarounds.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand appreciate the friendly staff and professional workflow throughout the process. Most recommend adding extra days for final bite adjustments. This helps ensure the fit is perfect before flying home to Australia.

What materials are available for dental crowns in Thailand?

Thai dental clinics offer a full range of crown materials. These include zirconia, all-ceramic porcelain, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM), and full metal options like gold. Specialists use these for conventional restorations and implant-supported crowns. They often provide same-day CAD/CAM milling for immediate results.

  • Zirconia crowns: Durable, tooth-coloured material favoured for front teeth and high-stress molars.
  • All-ceramic porcelain: Provides a natural look that blends seamlessly with existing tooth enamel.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal: Uses a strong metal base with a porcelain exterior for balanced durability.
  • Full metal alloys: High-longevity options including gold, typically used for back teeth restorations.
  • CAD/CAM crowns: Digital milling technology allows for single-visit, same-day crown installation in Bangkok.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Leading Thai centres operate as authorised hubs for global dental brands. Bangkok International Dental Center is an official partner of Ivoclar Vivadent and Straumann. This helps patients receive genuine, high-grade materials rather than generic local alternatives. These partnerships often include extended material warranties that clinics in Australia rarely match.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report that material quality matches global standards. They find zirconia provides the best aesthetic for visible teeth. Many recommend asking for written lab specifications to confirm the brand of material used.
