How Much Does Gold crown Cost in Thailand in AUD?

Gold crown procedures in Thailand typically cost from AUD $576 / ฿A19,592 to AUD $1,152 / ฿A39,183. Prices depend on the gold percentage, the tooth size, and choice of city. Australians save approximately 67% compared to local prices, which average AUD $2,593 / ฿A88,162. Costs usually include the crown fabrication, dental consultation, and local anaesthetic. Main dental hubs include Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai.

  • High noble gold (87%+): typically costs the most due to pure gold content.
  • Porcelain-fused-to-gold: offers a natural look with a durable gold interior.
  • Semi-precious alloy (~50% gold): provides a balance between strength and lower cost.
  • Regional variations: Chiang Mai clinics are often 15–20% cheaper than Bangkok or Phuket.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing established clinics in Chiang Mai can offer superior value for Australians. Kitcha Dental Clinic, founded by Dr. Kitcha Tungthangthum, has over 40 years of experience and serves 10,000 patients annually. They are an official Straumann provider and accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA). This ensures international material standards at regional Thai prices, which are typically lower than major tourist hubs.

Data verified by Bookimed as of July 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 30 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Gold crown in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Why choose a gold crown over porcelain for dental restoration in Thailand?

Gold crowns in Thailand are the preferred choice for back molars. They offer exceptional durability and biocompatibility. These crowns require less removal of natural tooth structure than porcelain. They also provide superior longevity under heavy biting forces. This makes them ideal for patients who prioritise reliability over aesthetics.

  • Mechanical strength: Gold withstands heavy chewing without chipping or fracturing like porcelain.
  • Tooth preservation: Thin gold alloys allow specialists to keep more natural tooth structure.
  • Biocompatibility: High-noble alloys are gentle on gums and reduce wear on opposing teeth.
  • Cost efficiency: Procedures cost $400 to $800, saving 68% compared to Australia.
  • Expert care: Surgeons like Dr Palawat Laoharungpisit hold PhDs and international prosthodontic certifications.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Porcelain crowns are popular for aesthetics. However, Bookimed data shows leading centres like Bangkok International Dental Center (BIDC) use on-site CAD/CAM labs. These labs help gold crown margins fit with micron-level precision. This fit reduces the risk of future decay compared to cheaper metal-fused alternatives.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand often choose gold for back teeth to avoid chipping. They also use it to protect opposing enamel. Most appreciate the low-maintenance nature and reliability of gold when prioritising function over a tooth-coloured appearance.

What types of gold crowns are available for dental procedures in Thailand?

Thai dental centres provide full gold crowns (FGC) and high-noble gold crowns with over 60% pure gold. Patients can also choose noble alloy options. Some prefer porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns with gold bases for a natural look. Leading clinics in Bangkok and Phuket specialise in these durable restorations.

  • Full gold crowns: These use gold alloy for maximum durability on back teeth.
  • High-noble crowns: These contain 60%+ gold and platinum for biocompatibility and precise fit.
  • Noble metal crowns: These use less gold for a cost-effective yet strong restoration.
  • PFM gold crowns: These combine a gold alloy base with a tooth-coloured porcelain layer.
  • Digital fabrication: Centres like BIDC use on-site CAD/CAM labs for high-precision crown manufacturing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bangkok clinics like BIDC and SmileBox use on-site digital labs. This technology allows specialists to produce custom alloy crowns quickly. For Australians, this often means finishing complex restorative work in a single trip.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend requesting a lab certificate to confirm the gold percentage. They appreciate solid gold for molars because it lasts longer and resists wear.

What is the typical duration required to get a gold crown fitted in Thailand?

Fitting a gold crown in Thailand typically takes 2 to 4 days across two appointments. Clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center provide same-day digital crowns for other materials. However, gold requires precise laboratory casting. This multi-day window allows the custom metal alloy to be shaped perfectly for a long-lasting fit.

  • First appointment: Dentist cleans the tooth, takes impressions, and fits a temporary crown.
  • Lab fabrication: External or on-site laboratories require 2 to 4 days for gold casting.
  • Final fitting: Specialist cements the permanent gold crown and checks the bite alignment.
  • Alternative options: Ceramics like Lava or Cercon offer same-day results via CAD/CAM milling.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume centres like Kitcha Dental Clinic and BIDC often have dedicated on-site labs. This usually cuts the standard 7-day wait down to just 2 or 3 days. Australian patients can save over 68% with gold crowns costing between $400 and $800.

Patient Consensus: Visitors to Thailand frequently mention the high level of care from specialists with 10+ years of experience. Many are surprised by how quickly labs return custom gold work compared to clinics at home.

Where can I find reputable gold crown dental services in Thailand?

Reputable gold crown services in Thailand are found at JCI-accredited dental hospitals and established clinics in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. Leading centres like Bangkok International Dental Center (BIDC) use on-site digital labs for precise gold alloy fabrication and long-lasting results.

  • Accredited facilities: Bangkok International Dental Center (BIDC) holds JCI and ISO 9001:2015 certifications.
  • Expert prosthodontists: Specialists such as Dr Palawat Laoharungpisit at SmileBox hold PhDs in prosthetic dentistry.
  • Established clinics: Kitcha Dental Clinic in Chiang Mai has served patients for 40+ years.
  • Digital precision: On-site CAD/CAM labs at centres like BIDH allow for custom-fitted crown fabrication.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients search for gold crowns. However, Bookimed data shows high-volume centres like SmileBox and Kitcha Dental Clinic often use gold alloys as a base for porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns. Selecting a clinic with an on-site lab is vital. These facilities often provide material specifications in writing. This helps confirm patients receive genuine gold alloys rather than gold-coloured alternatives.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend dental departments in hospitals or established private clinics rather than tourist storefronts. They suggest requesting an itemised treatment plan first. This allows you to confirm the specific gold content and lab details before starting.
