"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

"The results were unbelievably positive!"
The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about Prostatectomy in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the success rate and expertise level of surgeons performing prostatectomy in South Korea?

Surgeons in South Korea achieve a 95% success rate for cancer control during robotic prostatectomy, maintaining 5-year survival rates between 91.7% and 94.7%. Severance Hospital and Samsung Medical Center are high-volume centres. They use the da Vinci Xi robotic system, keeping complication rates under 1%.

  • Clinical outcomes: Most accredited hospitals report 5-year survival rates reaching 100% for early-stage cases.
  • Surgical volume: Korean specialists perform 8,000+ radical prostatectomies annually. This shows their high proficiency and technical skill.
  • Technological precision: Surgeons use da Vinci robotic systems in 74.6% of cases. This helps preserve nerve function.
  • Specialist leadership: Prof. Kang Seok-ho at Korea University Anam Hospital pioneered robotic bladder and prostate techniques.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea leads in robotic adoption. RARP rates jumped from 49% to nearly 75% in a decade. Centres like Korea University Anam Hospital offer same-day consultations and tests for new patients. This efficiency and JCI-accredited safety make Seoul a global hub for minimally invasive urology.

Patient Consensus: Men value the high-tech robotic approach in South Korea. It spares potency and speeds recovery. Most find temporary incontinence issues resolve or become manageable within 3–6 months post-surgery.

What are the recovery and travel implications for a prostatectomy in South Korea?

Recovery for a prostatectomy in South Korea requires a 10–14 day local stay before flying back to Australia. Patients usually spend 1–3 nights in hospital, often at JCI-accredited Seoul facilities. Early walking starts within 24 hours. Strenuous activity must be avoided for 6 weeks.

  • Hospital stay: Most patients stay 1–3 nights before moving to local accommodation.
  • Walking protocol: Surgeons encourage mobilising on the day after surgery to aid healing.
  • Catheter timing: Clinical teams typically remove the urinary catheter within 2 to 14 days.
  • Travel window: A 2-week wait is necessary to monitor for blood clots or complications.
  • Activity limits: Heavy lifting, cycling, and intense exercise are prohibited for 6 weeks post-surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many Seoul centres offer robotic surgery, Professor Kang Seok-ho at Korea University Anam Hospital uses bloodless surgery techniques. This approach helps speed up initial healing. It is particularly valuable for Australian patients facing long-haul flights home after the mandatory 14-day recovery period.

Patient Consensus: Patients in South Korea report being mobile shortly after discharge. Most manage pain with non-opioid rotations. Others recommend planning a 3-week stay for full wound healing.

Do doctors in South Korea speak English for a prostatectomy?

Specialists at major South Korean centres like Samsung Medical Centre and Severance Hospital are often internationally trained. They speak proficient English. These clinicians frequently use English medical terminology. However, large hospitals also provide dedicated international healthcare teams for clear communication during surgery and recovery.

  • Specialised support: Asan Medical Centre and Gangnam Severance Hospital provide free interpreter services to international patients.
  • Global standards: Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH) treats 30,000 international patients annually with 24/7 interpreter availability.
  • International training: Surgeons like Prof. Kang Seok-ho at Korea University Anam Hospital completed fellowships in the United States.
  • Safety accreditation: Clinics like Severance Hospital hold JCI accreditation, which means high communication standards for foreign patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows that the most experienced prostatectomy surgeons in Seoul often lead "Digital Hospitals." For example, SNUH was fully digital by 2004. This digital focus extends to patient portals and coordinators. They manage English-language communications more efficiently than smaller local clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that JCI-accredited hospitals in South Korea offer the best English support. This support comes through professional medical interpreters. Checking a urologist’s profile for international training or American fellowships is a reliable way to gauge their proficiency.
