"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

"The results were unbelievably positive!"
The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about Laparoscopic prostatectomy in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Which top hospitals in Korea are recommended for prostatectomy?

Top Korean hospitals for prostatectomy include Asan Medical Center, Seoul National University Hospital (SNUH), and Severance Hospital. These centres lead in robotic and laparoscopic techniques. They hold international accreditations like JCI and Newsweek rankings. They perform thousands of urological surgeries annually with high success rates.

  • Asan Medical Center: Ranks 6th globally for urology and specialises in complex multidisciplinary cancer care.
  • Severance Hospital: First JCI-accredited facility in Korea, with over 4,000 robotic surgeries using da Vinci.
  • SNU Hospital: Ranked 2nd globally for urinary systems, treating 30,000 international patients from 80 countries.
  • Gangnam Severance: Features Tomotherapy for precise radiation and specialised robotic systems for prostate cancer.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a Big 5 university hospital is vital because their urological departments handle massive patient volumes. SNUH alone performs 3,800+ neurosurgical interventions. This high-frequency surgical environment means specialists have encountered nearly every rare complication possible.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Korea report that translators and dedicated international clinics make navigating top hospitals easy. Many found the care life-saving even without speaking Korean, praising the English-speaking specialists.

What is the difference between standard laparoscopic and robot-assisted (da Vinci) prostatectomy in Korea?

Robot-assisted prostatectomy in Korea offers superior 3D visualisation and micro-motion precision compared to standard laparoscopy. While both use small incisions, the da Vinci system excels in nerve-sparing techniques. This often leads to better preservation of erectile function and reduced blood loss under 200ml.

  • Surgical precision: Robotic systems provide 10x magnified views for precise nerve and vessel separation.
  • Blood loss: Robot-assisted methods typically result in lower blood loss than standard techniques.
  • Recovery speed: Patients often report less pain and faster initial healing with robotic assistance.
  • Outcome parity: Long-term cancer control remains identical across both minimally invasive surgical approaches.
  • Specialised centres: Seoul hospitals like Severance Hospital have performed 4,000+ robotic procedures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Korea was the first in Asia to adopt da Vinci technology at Gangnam Severance Hospital. Our data shows top Seoul clinics are now 90% laparoscopic for major abdominal surgeries. This high volume results in exceptional technical proficiency in both standard and robotic nerve-sparing protocols.

Patient Consensus: Robotic surgery in Korea offers shorter recovery with tiny incisions and faster hospital discharge. Patients recommend asking about specific nerve-sparing rates for the best functional results after treatment.

What is the typical recovery time after laparoscopic prostatectomy in Korea?

Typical recovery after laparoscopic prostatectomy in Korea allows patients to return to daily chores within 1–2 weeks. Most specialist centres in Seoul discharge patients after just 2 days. This is due to minimally invasive incisions of 0.5–1.5 cm. These reduce post-operative pain and speed up initial healing.

  • Hospital discharge: most patients leave the centre within 48 hours of surgery.
  • Initial walking: patients usually start walking the same night or the morning after.
  • Activity restrictions: no heavy lifting for 6 weeks to protect the bladder.
  • Long-term recovery: full bladder control and nerve function can take 6–12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While local recovery is fast, Australian patients should plan a 2-week stay in Seoul. Severance Hospital and Gangnam Severance were pioneers in Asia using the da Vinci robotic system. This expertise is why local patients walk within 24 hours.

Patient Consensus: Expect to feel capable of light activity by week 2. However, wait 6 weeks before flying to Australia. Patients emphasise that while wounds heal quickly, internal recovery and bladder control require several months of patience.

What is included in medical packages for prostatectomy in Seoul?

Prostatectomy packages in Seoul include the surgical procedure, pre-operative screenings, and anaesthesia. Standard inclusions cover robotic-assisted or laparoscopic techniques, 1–3 days of hospitalisation, and medical translations. Top JCI-accredited hubs like Severance Hospital and Asan Medical Center often bundle personal coordinators and airport transfers. These are included in their international services.

  • Surgical techniques: Packages offer laparoscopic or robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci system.
  • Clinical screenings: Essential pre-operative lab work, blood tests, and imaging are typically covered.
  • Hospital stay: Inpatient care for 1–3 nights is standard for minimally invasive surgeries.
  • International support: Leading centres provide 24/7 interpreter services and personal coordinators for logistics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Major Seoul hospitals like Severance Hospital have performed 4,000+ robotic surgeries. This massive volume means surgeons are highly proficient. Patients at Gangnam Severance Hospital also receive free airport transfers if their bill exceeds A$4,400. This amount is standard for most prostatectomies.

Patient Consensus: South Korean packages usually include surgery scheduling and translation. However, patients should confirm if pathology and post-op medications are covered. Patients should expect to pay the full hospital bill before discharge. Insurance often won't apply.
