How Much Does Urethroscopic lithotripsy Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey typically costs from AUD $2,157 to AUD $3,596. The final price depends on stone size, the use of laser technology, and the specific clinic tier. In Australia, similar procedures average around AUD $9,493, meaning patients can save approximately 70% by travelling. Standard packages usually include the surgery, preoperative tests, surgeon fees, and initial consultations.

  • Laser lithotripsy: provides a more precise way to fragment stones compared to traditional methods.
  • High-power laser protocols: typically add 20–30% to the cost for faster, more complex stone removal.
  • Flexible ureterorenoscopy: often involves a small premium over rigid scopes for reaching difficult upper stones.
  • Hospital location: major hubs include Istanbul and Antalya, where premium facilities offer all-inclusive pricing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing a comprehensive package can significantly reduce out-of-pocket expenses for Australians. Memorial Göztepe Hospital offers inclusive bundles for approximately A$12,900. These cover the procedure, balloon dilatation, and necessary catheters. Expert surgeons like Dr Ali Gozukucuk have performed over 1,100 urological procedures. Higher-tier clinics often provide JCI-accredited care, justifying the investment through high safety standards and modern equipment.

I’m glad I chose this team for my care and would absolutely do so again
My biggest worry was the complexity of the procedure itself, especially since it turned out I needed a Vasoepididymostomy. However, the surgeon was very clear and reassuring from the first consultation. That put me at ease. The clinic staff were consistently supportive, and the entire process felt organized and professional. Recovery is a journey, and while there's still some healing to do, I feel like I was in very capable hands. Everything went smoothly. I’m glad I chose this team for my care and would absolutely do so again.

The result is already better than expected
What worried me most was how the final length would turn out, but the result is already better than expected. The team was faultless. My incision for the 3-piece Rigicon implant is healing cleanly, though the most difficult part of recovery has been just trying to sit comfortably. The clinic facility itself is why I gave a lower rating; it’s functional but feels dated. This did not detract from the quality of the medical attention, however. Based on the care from the staff and the surgeon, I would direct others here.
The whole experience overall was great. Dr Bugra Cetin made himself available throughout my time in Istanbul, when he wasn't in surgery, that made my trip easy. The staff at Bookimed addressed all my concerns day and night, with taxi, clinic and still with my recovery while back home. I got with my local Urologist for them to have a look at my surgical area and they were happy with the results so far and said everything looks perfect! Thanks Dr. Cetin and Team!
None, for Bookimed. Anytime I did have any issue with hotel and taxi service, the staff was spot on.

I won’t talk about the way this clinic conducts business, namely that the price starts to rise when you are already there and your passport is with the registrar, all this is nothing, if there was a result, but the result is this - Urology of this institution is completely bottom, here in the bookcomed they praised that you will have a professor, and so, a professor who, as it turned out, specializes in child circumcisions, spent at most three minutes on me when providing tests and descriptions of the disease, and two on the results and treatment prescriptions, well, okay, I think, the professor, he treats in a second, but no, I was treated, the result is zero, just zero. And you understand this: time, money and most importantly health, there are still a lot of moments, but you can close your eyes to all this, if you were cured, if you at least tried to think about it
How can I like something? What a funny questionnaire? I was not cured, what I liked was tea, it would have been a very good teahouse

After I got the address of the doctor needed, I managed to see him, but everyone was surprised by my visit. The doctor was not aware that I was going to meet him, the staff were all surprised. They were not aware of bookmed at all neither did they know the focal person who linked me with the hospital. The doctor told me he would send a preliminary report on the patient. I never got the report. Please let me know what happened? Is it scam or something?

FAQ about Urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the success rate of urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey?

Urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey has a success rate between 90% and 95%, with up to 99.1% stone clearance for lower ureter stones. Experienced surgeons using laser lithotripsy safely remove stones with minimal downtime. Leading JCI-accredited clinics support high-quality treatment.

  • Success for distal stones: up to 99.1% clearance
  • Smaller stones (<10 mm) cleared in approximately 97.6% of cases
  • Pediatric stone-free rate about 92.8%
  • Surgeons like Dr Ali Gozukucuk performed 1,100+ procedures at Hisar Hospital
  • Popular clinics include Memorial Şişli and Memorial Bahçelievler with JCI and ISO accreditation

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgeons with 1,100+ ureteroscopic procedures, like those in Istanbul’s Hisar Hospital, raise treatment reliability. Memorial Şişli’s JCI-accredited status signals strong quality standards. These factors combined explain why patient outcomes stay consistently high across Turkey’s top clinics.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find urethroscopic lithotripsy highly effective, especially for stones larger than 5 mm. Many note quick recovery and clear communication about stent use. Clinics encourage hydration and diet changes to stop stones returning.

What are the potential complications of urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey?

Urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey is a safe, minimally invasive procedure with mostly temporary complications like blood in urine, ureteral stent discomfort, and urinary urgency. Severe issues are rare but can involve procedure failure needing urgent further treatment. Recovery usually completes shortly after stent removal.

  • Temporary haematuria: blood in urine for a few days is common post-op.
  • Stent discomfort: cramping and sharp pain during urination until removal.
  • Urinary symptoms: increased urgency and frequency can last 1–2 weeks.
  • Fatigue and nausea: mild and short-lived after surgery.
  • Procedure failure risk: stones not being removed may require further surgeries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Urologists in Istanbul clinics, like those at Hisar Hospital, have performed 1,100+ urethroscopic lithotripsy procedures, minimising risks through experience. Most patients face stent discomfort for about 10 days before removal. Australian patients should check surgeon experience and plan for stent symptom management and emergency care options in Turkey.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report stent cramps and discoloured urine were expected and manageable. Drinking plenty of water right after surgery helped ease discomfort and avoid blockages. Staying informed about surgeon experience reassured many Australians travelling for treatment.

How long does the urethroscopic lithotripsy procedure take in Turkey?

The urethroscopic lithotripsy procedure in Turkey typically takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on stone size and complexity. Patients often recover quickly, with a stent placed during surgery and removed about 10 days later. Most hospitals offer short stays or same-day discharge.

  • Procedure duration: usually between 30 minutes and 2 hours.
  • Techniques used: laser lithotripsy, balloon dilatation, catheterisation.
  • Postoperative stent removal: a short procedure lasting about 30 seconds to 1 minute after 10 days.
  • Hospital stay: mostly same-day or 0–1 night stay in Istanbul clinics.
  • Recovering patients typically feel discomfort for several hours post-op.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Istanbul clinics like Memorial hospitals and Hisar Hospital have experienced surgeons performing 1,100+ ureteroscopic lithotripsy procedures each. This consistent expertise means fast surgeries and smooth recoveries. Packages often include pre-op tests and consultation, but hospital stay lengths vary, so confirming details is wise.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report quick regaining of consciousness after the procedure and appreciate the fast stent removal. Treatments are straightforward, and most recover with manageable discomfort shortly after surgery.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for urethroscopic lithotripsy?

Patients typically stay in Turkey for 7 to 10 days after urethroscopic lithotripsy. This allows for stent removal and follow-up checks to confirm stone clearance and recovery before travel.

  • Recovery timeline: Stent removal usually occurs 7–10 days post-surgery.
  • Stone clearance: Urine generally clears by the third day after the procedure.
  • Catheter discomfort: Mild discomfort lasts about 1 day after surgery.
  • Procedure types: Flexible ureteroscopy may reduce hospital stay.
  • Hospital quality: Many clinics in Istanbul hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental have surgeons with 1,100+ lithotripsy procedures, showing skilled care. Most Turkish clinics recommend staying until stent removal, but some flexible ureteroscopy options may shorten this. Always check clinic follow-up policies to plan travel accordingly.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey note urine clears quickly and catheter pain is brief. Many wait the full 7–10 days for stent removal to avoid complications. Follow-up scans before flying home provide peace of mind.

Will I need a ureteral stent after urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey?

A ureteral stent is commonly placed after urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey to keep urine flowing and support ureter healing. Stent removal usually happens 7 to 14 days after surgery. Some simple cases with small stones might not require a stent at all.

  • Stent purpose: prevents ureter blockages and allows urine flow despite swelling.
  • Typical removal: outpatient procedure done within 10–14 days after surgery.
  • Stent discomfort: mild pulling, bladder spasms; relieved with medication like oxybutynin.
  • Complex cases: may need stent for up to 4 weeks for safe healing.
  • Ask providers if a stent-free option is suitable for smaller stones.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Most top urology clinics in Istanbul, including Memorial Şişli Hospital and Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, routinely place stents after urethroscopic lithotripsy. Their surgeons, with 1,100+ procedures each, focus on patient comfort by managing stent discomfort with anti-inflammatory drugs instead of strong opioids. Confirm if stent removal is done in Turkey or locally for smooth follow-up.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey commonly report stents helping recovery despite mild discomfort. Many found stent removal quick and outpatient. Australians note it's useful to clarify stent plans beforehand and expect manageable symptoms, often relieved with simple medicines.

When can I return to work after urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey?

Most patients return to work between 10 to 14 days after urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey. If a ureteral stent is placed, removal typically occurs around day 10, which may delay work return. Early symptoms include painful urination and red urine, improving within a few days.

  • Recovery timeline: Normal activities usually resume 10 to 14 days post-surgery.
  • Stent removal: Often done around day 10 and may delay heavy work return.
  • Early symptoms: Painful urination and red urine appear day one, ease by day two.
  • Light activity: Walking encouraged; heavy lifting avoided until fully comfortable.
  • Laser lithotripsy: Some patients choose this for potentially faster recovery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental offer laser lithotripsy with surgeons performing 1,100+ procedures. This experience often means quicker recovery and fewer complications. Turkish specialists advise clarifying stent use early, as it affects timing to resume physical work.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey say planning 10–14 days off work allows full comfort with urination. They find hydration and pain management key for easier recovery. Many note early symptoms clear quickly and walking helps speed return to daily routines.

Is urethroscopic lithotripsy painful in Turkey?

Urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey is painless during surgery due to general or regional anaesthesia. Doctors use laser lithotripsy and minimally invasive techniques. Some discomfort may occur post-op because of a temporary ureteral stent causing burning and cramps.

  • Procedure pain: None during surgery under anaesthesia.
  • Post-op discomfort: Stent causes burning, bladder spasms, and tugging sensation.
  • Discomfort peak: Usually highest on day one after surgery, easing by day three.
  • Stent removal: Critical for symptom relief; timing should be clarified before travel.
  • Pain management: Anti-inflammatories and alpha-blockers preferred over opioids.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many experienced urologists in Istanbul, like Dr Ali Gozukucuk, perform 1,100+ laser lithotripsies, ensuring smooth procedures. Clinics such as Memorial Şişli Hospital hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, guaranteeing global safety and quality standards. Australian patients report no surgical pain, only manageable stent discomfort, highlighting Turkey’s strong focus on patient comfort.

Patient Consensus: Australians undergoing urethroscopic lithotripsy in Turkey say the procedure itself is painless. Discomfort mostly comes from the stent after surgery, which eases within days. Many found doctors provided clear advice on pain relief and follow-up care, making the recovery phase easier to manage.
