The staff were a definite highlight, providing excellent support and guidance throughout the PET-CT with Gallium 68 PSMA scan
I came away with a positive overall impression of the day. The staff were a definite highlight, providing excellent support and guidance throughout the PET-CT with Gallium 68 PSMA scan. They made me feel looked after. The doctor was professional and the clinic itself was well-equipped. My only negative, and the reason for a lower overall score, was the airport transfer. The taxi was difficult for me to get in and out of. More importantly, upon arrival at the airport, I could not find the driver at the designated meeting point, which created unnecessary stress. While the medical care was handled very well, the logistics of the transport could be improved.

It was the right choice
What worried me most was the uncertainty and what the treatment plan would be. But my fears were put to rest after the very first consultation. The doctor was very attentive and explained everything in detail and calmly, which immediately put me at ease. I really appreciate that approach. All the staff at the clinic were responsive and supportive at every stage. The clinic itself made a good impression; everything is well organised. I am currently in the recovery phase and feel much calmer, having a clear understanding of the next steps. It was the right choice.

The surgeon was excellent
What surprised me most about my basalioma treatment wasn't the procedure itself, but the detailed skin examination I received. The surgeon was excellent. He made sure all removal options were discussed clearly, which was reassuring since I already had my diagnosis before arriving. Right now, the treated area is healing very well. While the medical care was superb and the clinic facilities are great, the administrative staff seemed a bit disorganized, which was the only downside. Despite that, based on the surgeon’s work, it’s a place I would suggest to others.
My Bookimed coordinator was highly skilled, had the passion and patience for her work and that translated to the numerous array of options provided to me to choose from based on my budget during the entire process. She interacted with me 24/7 just for us to have solution within my schedule. All information (proforma, visa assistance, travel guidance and estimated personal expenses) for the entire treatment were on point and I encourage all manner of persons seeking medical treatment abroad to choose Bookimed as their medical tourism partner.
1. Interpreter only come when the patient calls for his services and that is only during the day. If the interpreter can also support beyond the interactions with the specialist. 2. Airport and Internal movement are left to the patient to handle which can sometimes be a major challenge for some category of patients and given the language barrier. 3. Hospital discharges are very strict even if you the patient feels he/she need additional day(s) to be fit for a return to the hotel to continue the recovery.

The doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process
My main concern before starting treatment was how my body would react to the drug. I’m undergoing a course of Keytruda immunotherapy for kidney cancer, receiving an infusion every three weeks. Yes, I have experienced some side effects. These are mainly digestive issues, and I feel a little more tired. Of course, I am still concerned that these might get worse over time. But I must say that the doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process.

When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10
My biggest worry was finding a surgeon and team I could completely trust for this personal procedure. That concern disappeared quickly. From the first consultation, the surgeon was professional and the staff were consistently kind, which made the whole process feel secure and well-managed. I'm still in the early stages of healing, but the level of care has been excellent. Everything was clear. When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10. The support has been fantastic.
Coordinator stayed in touch .The clinic exceeded expectations.I wanted to thank Dr. Baris Nuhoglu and his assistant, who took impeccable care of me. They listened to me and resolved a problem that was very serious and causing me discomfort. On May 19th, they gave me a new birth with professionalism, seriousness, and empathy.I have e big gratitude and deep respect to Dr. Baris and his team, and I wish to return in a few months for a check-up and, who knows, maybe for another new treatment.😁😉👍

Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience
My biggest concern before the operation was the recovery period, but now, 15 days after the prosthetic testicle implant surgery, I can say that things are going as expected. I received a small prosthesis measuring 3.5 cm; although I’m not sure of the brand, I’m satisfied with it. The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience. Everything went well. The recovery period is going well and without any problems so far.

Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience
The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all!
Translators were top notch! Everything was amazing, I can't select just one thing.
Had issue with payment, it kept getting rejected and due to this I wasn't admitted right away. But once payment went through, all services followed smoothly.

My care was very good from start to finish. As soon as I arrived at the hospital, I was greeted by my interpreter and team. They were very friendly, put me at ease and explained what would happen and when. I had checks done and blood taken etc and met the consultant. He was absolutely lovely and again explained the whole procedure. I also met with the Anaesthetist. My procedure was completed and the care was fantastic from all the staff involved. The room and hospital were great. I felt like we had VIP treatment. The Hotel was also nice and everything runs like clockwork. Thanks to all the team but, especially to Ishmeal, Senna and Doctor Ozturk.

Our Removal of liver cancer Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Removal of liver cancer, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Liver resection

Liver resection, also known as hepatectomy, involves surgically removing a portion of the liver to treat liver tumors or other liver-related conditions.

Pros: This procedure allows for precise removal of liver tumors with a high success rate in eligible patients. It can be performed using minimally invasive techniques, reducing recovery time by 50% compared to open surgery.
Cons: There is a risk of liver failure if too much liver tissue is removed. The procedure may not be suitable for patients with poor liver function or extensive liver disease.
Effectiveness: Success rate of up to 90% for localized liver tumors.
Duration: 3-5 hours
Recovery: 4-6 weeks
Best for: Patients with localized liver tumors, metastatic liver disease, or liver lesions not responding to other therapies.
Prices: Cost of Liver resection in Turkey from AUD $8,366

FAQ about Removal of liver cancer in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the main surgical options for removing liver cancer in Turkey?

Turkey offers surgical resection, liver transplantation, and minimally invasive robotic procedures for liver cancer. These surgeries are performed by multidisciplinary teams. They take place in JCI-accredited centres like Memorial Bahçelievler and Anadolu Medical Center. There, surgeons remove tumours while sparing healthy tissue to allow for hepatic regeneration.

  • Liver resection: Surgeons remove the tumour and surrounding tissue for localised cancers.
  • Liver transplant: Full organ replacement is available for patients with advanced cirrhosis.
  • Robotic surgery: Specialists use da Vinci systems for smaller incisions and faster recovery.
  • Ablation therapy: Microwave or histotripsy destroy small tumours without conventional open surgery.
  • Multidisciplinary care: Oncology boards including surgeons and radiologists review each complex case.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While resection is common, Turkey's organ transplant success rates are exceptionally high. Memorial Şişli Hospital reports a 90% transplant success rate. Memorial Bahçelievler reaches 93.5%, making Turkey a global leader for patients requiring full liver replacement.

Patient Consensus: Patients find Turkish oncology teams explain every surgical risk and recovery stage in detail. The centres are noted for being clean and well-run. Specialists often provide multiple treatment options after board reviews.

Who is a candidate for liver resection for liver cancer in Turkey?

Clinical candidates for liver resection in Turkey generally include patients with localised tumours. They must also have sufficient healthy liver tissue to support regeneration. Eligibility usually requires primary liver cancer or metastases confined to the liver. Surgeons will also assess bilirubin levels and cardiac fitness for the 3–5 hour operation.

  • Tumour location: Cancer must be confined to the liver without significant spread to other organs.
  • Liver function: Candidates require adequate liver volume and minimal cirrhosis for safe postoperative recovery.
  • Clinical expertise: Surgeons like Dr. Ersin Ozturk at Medicana Bursa Hospital specialise in complex oncologic resections.
  • Accredited centres: Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Sisli Hospital provide JCI-accredited surgical oncology and transplantation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients are told a tumour is inoperable elsewhere. However, Turkish centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental use 640-slice CT scanners for precise mapping. This often allows surgeons to identify resectable margins that standard scans might miss. It can potentially qualify "borderline" candidates for surgery.

Patient Consensus: Turkish specialists often provide second opinions for tumours initially labelled as unresectable. This label often reflects concerns about size or location. Patients found that the most critical factor is verifying if enough healthy liver remains. This determines whether surgery can proceed.

What are the alternatives to surgery for liver cancer in Turkey?

Turkey offers non-surgical liver cancer treatments including radioembolisation (Y-90), chemoembolisation (TACE), and precision radiotherapy. These alternatives serve patients with inoperable tumours or limited liver reserve. These therapies are integrated into multi-disciplinary oncology protocols at leading Istanbul centres. Examples include Anadolu Medical Center and Hisar Hospital.

  • Targeted embolisation: TACE and SIRT deliver drugs or radiation directly to tumours.
  • Ablation techniques: Microwave and radiofrequency ablation destroy small lesions without incisions.
  • Precision radiation: MR-LINAC and CyberKnife systems track and treat tumours in real-time.
  • Systemic therapies: Immunotherapy and targeted drugs help control advanced-stage liver cancer.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many global centres only offer standard SIRT, several Istanbul hospitals specialise in Adaptive Radiotherapy. This technology allows doctors to adjust radiation doses mid-treatment as the liver shifts. Facilities like Hisar Hospital even use 640-slice CT scanners. These map liver shifts with extreme precision.

Patient Consensus: Patients often report getting second opinions in Turkey for Y-90 radioembolisation. They did so when surgery was not an option. Many found these locoregional treatments provided effective tumour control. Their recovery was much easier than with open surgery.

How is liver cancer removal surgery performed in Turkey?

Surgeons in Turkey remove liver tumours using specialised techniques including partial hepatectomy, laparoscopic surgery, and robotic-assisted methods. Major centres in Istanbul and Bursa use intraoperative ultrasound to map vessels precisely. This helps them preserve healthy tissue and achieve clear margins for oncological safety.

  • Surgical approaches: Surgeons perform open resection for large tumours or laparoscopic surgery for smaller, localised lesions.
  • Tumour destruction: Specialists often use radiofrequency ablation (RFA) or microwave ablation to destroy small, surrounding growths.
  • Radiation: SIRT therapy (Selective Internal Radiation Therapy) delivers radioactive beads directly to the liver via arteries.
  • Hospital recovery: Most oncological resection packages include a 4-day hospital stay with 24-hour nursing care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centres like Anadolu Medical Center or Memorial Antalya Hospital often combine surgery with SIRT therapy. The SIRT approach targets tumours that surgery cannot reach. This is one reason why Australian patients choose Turkey. It gives them access to interventional oncology technologies. These might be harder to access or more expensive back home.

Patient Consensus: Australian patients find that Turkey offers highly organised surgical care. The entire process can be completed within 30 days. They recommend getting a written package breakdown. This helps confirm if hotel accommodation or specific medications are included before travelling.

Why choose Turkey for liver cancer surgery?

Turkey offers advanced liver cancer surgery with success rates matching Western standards at a fraction of Australian costs. Patients access multidisciplinary teams that use technologies like the Navigator for robotic surgery and TrueBeam linear accelerators for precise tumour removal while preserving healthy liver function.

  • Clinical excellence: Anadolu Medical Center holds European IASIOS certification for interventional oncology standards.
  • Precise technology: Surgeons use TrueBeam STx and da Vinci robotic systems for accuracy.
  • Expert specialists: Dr Yusuf Acigkoz provides advanced radioembolisation (SIRT) for complex liver tumours.
  • Comprehensive oversight: Boards of surgeons, oncologists, and radiologists collaborate on every treatment plan.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centres like Memorial Bahçelievler often outperform Western averages in transplant success. Their 93.5% liver transplant survival rate stems from high volumes. Some facilities treat over 1 million patients annually. This volume gives surgeons unparalleled experience with rare or advanced malignancies.

Patient Consensus: Australians find Turkey provides a predictable total bill because packages bundle medication and support. Travel is common when local Australian costs are high for major oncology care.

How long does recovery after liver resection for liver cancer in Turkey take?

Liver resection recovery in Turkey usually takes 8 to 12 weeks for full functional return. Patients typically stay 5 to 10 days in JCI-accredited hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center. Preliminary mobilising begins on day 1 to assist liver regeneration, which normally completes within 8 weeks.

  • Inpatient stay: Most patients require 5 to 10 days of specialised hospital care.
  • Initial recovery: The first 2 weeks often involve fatigue, nausea, and managed pain levels.
  • Work return: Resuming non-physical work is typically possible after 6 to 8 weeks.
  • Liver regeneration: The liver regrows to its original size within 6 to 8 weeks.
  • Surgical approach: Laparoscopic or robotic techniques can reduce hospital stays to 3–5 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center holds OECI and ESMO certifications, so its cancer protocols meet high European standards. Their affiliation with Johns Hopkins Hospital provides Australian patients with access to top-tier expertise. This helps maintain high success rates for complex resections using technologies like the Da Vinci robot.

Patient Consensus: Survivors in Turkey report that the initial week is the most demanding. Most felt functional within 8 weeks. However, they needed significant rest and support during the first fortnight. Many patients found they were mobile earlier than expected but required extra sleep for months.

What is the difference between primary and secondary liver cancer in Turkey?

Primary liver cancer starts in liver cells, while secondary liver cancer spreads to the liver from another organ like the bowel or breast. In Turkey, specialists use specialised imaging and biopsies to distinguish these. Treatment for primary cancer focuses on the liver. For secondary cancer, however, treatment targets the original source.

  • Origin point: Primary cancer begins in hepatocytes. Secondary tumours metastasise from organs like the lungs or colon.
  • Main causes: Chronic Hepatitis B or C often triggers primary cases. Secondary cases follow general cancer progression.
  • Surgical paths: Primary cases may allow for transplants. Secondary cases focus on removing specific metastatic lesions.
  • Diagnostic tools: Specialists use AFP markers for primary cases. PET/CT scans help locate secondary cancer sources.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center holds OECI membership and IASIOS certification. These credentials signify high-level expertise in interventional oncology. Patients there benefit from physicians who specialise in SIRT and radioembolisation. These non-surgical options are often used for tumours that standard surgery cannot reach.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find that clear staging through biopsy is the most critical first step. They appreciate how doctors explain that secondary tumours require a whole-body approach. Most felt relieved once the origin was confirmed through thorough histopathology tests.
