Thank you bookimed, I love you all ❤️💋
The best thing that could have happened to me. I had a sex change. It was all quick and uncomplicated. In Germany I would have had to wait over 3 years, maybe even longer. Bookimed has made my life worth living again. Bookimed is currently the best intuition. I was pampered and all my wishes were fulfilled. Arrival, transfer, hotel, clinic..... Everything 💯 💥 Thank you bookimed, I love you all ❤️💋

The single positive aspect of this entire process was the staff. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, my experience with the surgeon and the clinic itself was profoundly disappointing, and I'm very concerned with how my otoplasty recovery is going so far. The gap between the supportive staff and the actual medical treatment I received is hard to understand. The facility did not meet my expectations for a medical setting in any capacity. Based on this, I would absolutely not recommend this clinic to anyone considering a similar procedure.
Do not go with bookimed.com. I didn’t liked from the moment when I arrived to airport anyone wasn’t there to pick me up, you know when you arrive any place you have no internet and you can’t make any phone calls or text so night mares already start.

I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone
I loved the coordinator / interpreter. Totally made me feel at ease and comfortable in what I would only describe as an anxious situation especially with the language barrier and the unknown of where you are going. The surgeon himself was wonderful and even had a coffee with me before hand which made me feel completely at ease. I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone. Thank-you so much :)

The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent
The possibility of breathing issues was my primary concern going into this. And honestly, that has been the biggest challenge in recovery so far, with one nostril constantly feeling stuffed. My surgeon performed a closed rhinoplasty. Everything is still very swollen along the bridge, but I can already see that my nose tip appears more refined, which is a great sign. The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent. The general staff were great, though post-op instructions could have been a bit more explicit. I'm satisfied with the medical care I received so far
Dr. Erol is an amazing doctor, his work was amazing he truly listened to my request and expectations and he was really patient and reassuring. The medical assistance team as well, they really took good care of me, they were present when i needed them.
post-op instructions could’ve been explained better

The lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement
My biggest worry was how the final result would look, and whether it would be worth the recovery. Even though I’m still quite puffy around my jawline, the lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement. That part is a huge relief. The staff and clinic environment were excellent from start to finish. Turning my head feels slightly tight but okay. The surgeon did good work, though I rated them a 4/5 as I felt some communication could have been a bit more compassionate after surgery. The most challenging part has absolutely been sleeping elevated. That's no fun. I would still recommend this clinic.
The Bookined coordinator and the Quartz Clinic staff were fantastic: supportive, helpful, compassionate. All updates were communicated to me promptly. The hotel booked for me is really excellent, with smooth transfers and kind drivers. Spot on!
I didn't give the doctor 5 stars because she made me cry the day after surgery. She could adopt a different approach towards me after surgery, with more understanding and compassion, especially since I was there on my own and at the end of the day, she's received all the information required, it doesn't matter from whom. The stress has a significant impact on me. Aside from that, she was great.

The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted
The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted. It’s a great feeling. My goal was a more defined tip, and that's precisely what the surgeon delivered using an open approach. The whole process was smooth, and the staff were genuinely caring. The most difficult part of recovery so far is just having to sleep upright, which is temporary. A huge bonus is that I am breathing perfectly through my nose already. I am so grateful for the surgeon's skill and the clear communication from the team.

the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable
If you’re thinking about arm liposuction, I’d advise you to prepare for the recovery. My surgeon used the VASER ultrasound technique and, although it’s still early days, my compression sleeves are already too loose. My mobility is limited; my biggest difficulty right now is reaching for things above my head. It’s also important to be patient with the results, because when I look in the mirror today, I can see that one arm looks different from the other, and I’m confident that will even out over time. Despite these minor aspects of the process, the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable. I would recommend the clinic.

The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout
My biggest worry was ending up with an unnatural shape, but the surgeon’s approach and clear communication completely put me at ease. Right now, things still look a little patchy as about half the transplanted hairs have fallen out, which I was told to expect during this early stage of healing. It’s a process. The biggest challenge has honestly been a personal one: just remembering to avoid touching them! The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout. While the clinic facilities were fine, the personal care from the team made all the difference. I'm very satisfied with my choice.

The surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin
I was worried that the scars from the upper and lower eyelid surgery would be noticeable. Fortunately, the surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin. I have no complaints about him whatsoever. However, the overall impression was greatly marred by the clinic itself, where the conditions were unsatisfactory. Recovery is still ongoing. My eyes are still swollen, and I’ve noticed that when I smile, one side looks slightly different. I hope this will pass. The main advice I would give to anyone considering this procedure is to prepare thoroughly for the period before and after the operation.

We will be going back for other treatment and truly can’t recommend them enough
Sitting in the clinic in Antalya, the surgeon explained how the laser-assisted technique for my upper eyelids would function during the procedure. The whole service was smooth and we had a fantastic time throughout our stay. The aftercare was good. I was thrilled with how my eyes looked at 12 days, although at day 15 my biggest challenge is that they are still puffy. My eyes look natural and smooth when I smile. It is a process. We will be going back for other treatment and truly can’t recommend them enough. If you are considering eyelid surgery, ensure you have a few weeks to let the initial swelling settle.

I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter
I felt very secure and taken care of through the entire experience. All of my inquiries were answered very promptly by both the bookiemed coordinator, the assistant, and my doctor (Dr. C Altindąg), is very experienced and talked me through what to expect and analyzed my nose very thoroughly. I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter (I had a severe deviated septum and other complications from a past surgery that he identified and corrected including a mirgrated graft and a droopy tip). I'm still quite swollen but look forward to seeing final results in a few months.

But the calmness and poise of the doctor and his team completely dispelled my doubts
I liked everything overall. Initially, I was very afraid, starting with the flight to another country, the transfer to the hotel and the operation itself. But the calmness and poise of the doctor and his team completely dispelled my doubts. 5 hours after the operation I returned to the hotel. Which is also very good because the hospital ward is the worst for me. Exactly after a week I took off the splint, my nose was still swollen. The nose is proportional to my face. When the swelling goes down it will be smaller

What gave me the most confidence was my surgeon sitting down with me to draw the incision lines right before the procedure
What gave me the most confidence was my surgeon sitting down with me to draw the incision lines right before the procedure. She was very honest about what results would be realistic for my age and even checked on me personally after I woke up from the general anesthesia. The procedure covered my full face and neck, and while it's still too early to tell what the final outcome will be, the support has been good. The staff are always easy to reach. I also appreciated that there were no additional expenses. My main advice would be to arrive a day before your operation for the consultation with your doctor, and make sure to tell them what you eat.
Everything went excellently with the coordinator. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable. Dr Paysal, who was my surgeon, was kind and knowledgeable.
The staff's English could have been better. The food served was the same for lunch and dinner for two days — chicken and rice. I told them I was vegetarian, but was still served chicken and rice for lunch and dinner.

FAQ about Male to female (MTF) surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the legal or mental health requirements for undergoing Male to Female (MTF) gender-affirming surgery in Turkey?

MTF gender-affirming surgery in Turkey requires patients to be at least 18 years old. They must provide a psychiatric evaluation confirming gender dysphoria. Private clinics follow standards from WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health). These usually require a mental health recommendation letter and hormone therapy before genital reconstruction.

  • Psychiatric evaluation: Patients must provide a letter confirming readiness and a gender dysphoria diagnosis.
  • Age requirement: All surgical candidates must be at least 18 to provide legal consent.
  • Hormone therapy: Most surgeons require a consistent period of hormone replacement therapy before surgery.
  • Medical certification: Qualified hospitals must confirm the procedure is necessary for the patient's health.
  • Informed consent: Teams conduct in-depth discussions so patients understand all surgical outcomes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish law has strict infertility requirements for locals. However, international patients at centres such as Uroaesthetic primarily deal with clinic-level protocols. Successful patients often have their Australian mental health letters translated into Turkish beforehand. This helps avoid administrative delays in Istanbul.

Patient Consensus: Requirements vary sharply between surgeons in Turkey. It is essential to get a full document list in writing. Confirming if Australian records need notarisation or specific certification helps get psychiatric support letters accepted.

How should I select a qualified surgeon for Male to Female (MTF) surgery in Turkey?

Selecting a qualified surgeon for MTF surgery in Turkey involves checking for board certification and high case volumes. Prioritise surgeons with microsurgery expertise in JCI-accredited facilities in Istanbul or Antalya. This helps achieve safe gender-affirming outcomes and reconstructive precision.

  • Board certification: Verify surgical credentials with EBOPRAS or the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
  • Specific case volume: Choose surgeons like Dr Ali Nurhan Özbaba with 30,000+ performed procedures.
  • Microsurgery expertise: Specialists like Professor Cemal Firat handle complex tissue transfers and sensation preservation.
  • Clinical standards: Select ISO-certified centres such as Uroaesthetic that specialise in complex urogenital aesthetics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows a divide between high-volume aesthetic centres and specialised urology clinics. Plastic surgeons handle facial and breast feminisation. However, urology specialists at clinics like Uroaesthetic manage over 10,000 patients annually. For vaginoplasty, choosing a surgeon with experience in reconstructive microsurgery and urology provides reliable functional results.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey suggest prioritising long-form independent reports over curated social media photos. Successful outcomes often involve confirming the lead surgeon personally performs core surgical steps.

What is the typical recovery period for Male to Female (MTF) surgery procedures in Turkey?

Initial healing for Male to Female surgery in Turkey takes 4–6 weeks. Full results settle over 6–12 months. Patients usually stay in Turkey for 2–3 weeks for wound care. This includes follow-up appointments at clinics like Dr. MED or Uroaesthetic.

  • Hospitalisation period: Gender reassignment surgery typically requires a 5–7 day stay.
  • Clinical stay: Patients should remain in Istanbul for 18–21 days after surgery.
  • Work timeline: Desk-based employees can generally return to work after 4–6 weeks.
  • Physical activity: Avoid heavy lifting and intense exercise for 8–12 weeks.
  • Sexual activity: Most surgeons permit sexual activity approximately 6 weeks after surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics handle over 70,590 requests annually. Their recovery infrastructure is designed for international patients. Surgeons like Dr. Cemal Firat at Medical Park Antalya specialise in microvascular tissue transfers. These techniques help reduce long-term tissue complications. Australians should choose clinics offering telehealth follow-up for the 3–6 month settling phase.

Patient Consensus: The first fortnight in Turkey is the most demanding. Patients experience swelling and limited mobility during this time. Australians recommend treating the trip as dedicated medical leave. They also suggest booking extra legroom for the long flight home.

What procedures are included in a typical Male to Female (MTF) surgery plan in Turkey?

Male to female (MTF) surgery plans in Turkey typically centre on vaginoplasty for genital reconstruction. Most plans are custom-built. They incorporate facial feminisation surgery (FFS), breast augmentation, and body contouring. Surgeons follow WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) guidelines for safety and clinical standards.

  • Genital reconstruction: Vaginoplasty often uses penile inversion techniques to create a functional, aesthetic vagina.
  • Facial feminisation: Includes tracheal shaves, brow bone reduction, and rhinoplasty to soften masculine features.
  • Breast augmentation: Surgeons use silicone or anatomical implants to create a feminine chest contour.
  • Body contouring: VASER liposuction often moves fat to hips and buttocks for hourglass shapes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients assume MTF surgery is one single procedure. However, data shows Turkish clinics treat it as a modular plan. Vaginoplasty focuses on reconstruction. FFS involves specialists like Dr Cemal Firat who focus on complex maxillofacial bone reshaping.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find that bottom surgery is the core of most plans. They recommend confirming if orchiectomy and tracheal shaves are included. These are often listed as separate add-ons.

Why is Turkey considered a destination for Male to Female (MTF) surgery for international patients?

Turkey is a main destination for Male to Female (MTF) surgery because it offers experienced reconstructive surgeons and specialised clinics. International patients often choose Turkey for rapid scheduling and significant savings. Procedures cost from $10,000 to $17,000.

  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Ali Nurhan Özbaba have performed 30,000+ aesthetic procedures.
  • Clinical techniques: Clinics offer microsurgery, microvascular tissue transfers, and complex reconstructive surgery.
  • Accredited facilities: Major centres like Uroaesthetic hold ISO certification and European board recognition.
  • Patient volume: Turkish clinics routinely serve over 70,590 international requests for gender-affirming care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many choose Turkey for the A$39,700 savings compared to Australia. However, the real advantage is surgeon specialisation. Professor Cemal Firat at Medical Park Antalya specialises in microvascular tissue transfers. This reconstructive skill is vital for complex MTF cases and harder to access quickly in Australia.

Patient Consensus: Patients value bundled packages covering surgery, transfers, and accommodation in Istanbul. Many find the shorter wait times and the ability to schedule surgery quickly better than local options.
