How Much Does Tracheal Shave Cost in Turkey in AUD?

A tracheal shave in Turkey typically costs from AUD $3,571 to AUD $5,714. The final price depends on the surgeon's experience, selected clinic tier, and the complexity of the facial feminisation plan. In Australia, this procedure averages around AUD $7,285, meaning patients can save approximately 35%. Most Turkish quotes include the surgical fee, anaesthetic, one night of hospital stay, and VIP airport transfers.

  • Surgeon expertise: Senior specialists with 30+ years of experience often charge a 15-20% premium.
  • Clinical setting: Major hubs like Istanbul and Ankara offer different pricing tiers based on facility accreditation.
  • Anaesthetic type: General anaesthetic is standard, but some minor reductions may use local sedation to lower costs.
  • Combined procedures: Bundling a tracheal shave with rhinoplasty or a brow lift often reduces the per-procedure price.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Choosing an ISO-certified facility like Estexper Clinic ensures quality standards while maintaining high savings for Australians. Many top-tier Istanbul hospitals provide multidisciplinary care, which is vital for complex facial feminisation. Experienced specialists such as Dr. Ali Nurhan Özbaba, who has performed over 30,000 procedures, offer significant expertise at prices far below private Australian rates. For the best value, look for clinics that bundle accommodation into the initial quote.

My surgeon was great; he was honest about what results were realistic for my body and clearly explained all the risks, which gave me confidence
If you're thinking about this, my main piece of advice is to be mentally ready for the procedure, as it can be overwhelming. I’m in early recovery from my breast reduction and lift, and I am feeling better than expected. My surgeon was great; he was honest about what results were realistic for my body and clearly explained all the risks, which gave me confidence. The clinic team was easy to reach and stayed in touch. Do be aware of some additional expenses – I had a prescription that cost extra at the pharmacy. A few practical tips: bring a spare compression garment, cotton t-shirts to wear underneath it, and your own snacks. Also, having my mum with me has been pivotal to my recovery, so I'd suggest bringing a companion if you can.
The co-ordinator at Bookimed, Winnington was brilliant. No matter how many questions I had he was able to answer them promptly and with one small hiccup from the hospital Winnington went out of his way to try and package a new procedure for me. My co-ordinator Eyyub at Optimed hospital was outstanding. The hospital was great, the staff on my floor were fantastic. We used goggle translate when the co-ordinator wasn’t with us if we came up against a language barrier but that was not very often. I was cared for before and after my surgery by the nursing staff who could not do enough for myself and my mum. I 10000000% recommend Bookimed & Optimed hospital
Post op instructions could be better. I have suggested to them to put together a general guide of what to do and not to do and for however long. What’s normal and if something doesn’t feel right who to contact etc. I think this will greatly help international patients and help the hospital co-ordinators from being hounded with a load of questions from several patients all at once. Peace of mind for the patient and a little more support for the co-ordinator. The food is catered for Turkish patients and can be hard for international patients to eat. Again, I have suggested to them to try having a small box of fibrous cereal available at breakfast time and instead of a full meal at lunch time something simple like sandwiches or rolls/bagels/baked goods. Dinner was usually ok and we were able to eat most of that but our daytime diet is a little less than they were providing and there was a lot of food waste which they could minimise & use the money elsewhere if there was a cater to international patients diets.

The single positive aspect of this entire process was the staff. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, my experience with the surgeon and the clinic itself was profoundly disappointing, and I'm very concerned with how my otoplasty recovery is going so far. The gap between the supportive staff and the actual medical treatment I received is hard to understand. The facility did not meet my expectations for a medical setting in any capacity. Based on this, I would absolutely not recommend this clinic to anyone considering a similar procedure.
Do not go with bookimed.com. I didn’t liked from the moment when I arrived to airport anyone wasn’t there to pick me up, you know when you arrive any place you have no internet and you can’t make any phone calls or text so night mares already start.

The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent
The possibility of breathing issues was my primary concern going into this. And honestly, that has been the biggest challenge in recovery so far, with one nostril constantly feeling stuffed. My surgeon performed a closed rhinoplasty. Everything is still very swollen along the bridge, but I can already see that my nose tip appears more refined, which is a great sign. The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent. The general staff were great, though post-op instructions could have been a bit more explicit. I'm satisfied with the medical care I received so far
Dr. Erol is an amazing doctor, his work was amazing he truly listened to my request and expectations and he was really patient and reassuring. The medical assistance team as well, they really took good care of me, they were present when i needed them.
post-op instructions could’ve been explained better

I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone
I loved the coordinator / interpreter. Totally made me feel at ease and comfortable in what I would only describe as an anxious situation especially with the language barrier and the unknown of where you are going. The surgeon himself was wonderful and even had a coffee with me before hand which made me feel completely at ease. I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone. Thank-you so much :)

The lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement
My biggest worry was how the final result would look, and whether it would be worth the recovery. Even though I’m still quite puffy around my jawline, the lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement. That part is a huge relief. The staff and clinic environment were excellent from start to finish. Turning my head feels slightly tight but okay. The surgeon did good work, though I rated them a 4/5 as I felt some communication could have been a bit more compassionate after surgery. The most challenging part has absolutely been sleeping elevated. That's no fun. I would still recommend this clinic.
The Bookined coordinator and the Quartz Clinic staff were fantastic: supportive, helpful, compassionate. All updates were communicated to me promptly. The hotel booked for me is really excellent, with smooth transfers and kind drivers. Spot on!
I didn't give the doctor 5 stars because she made me cry the day after surgery. She could adopt a different approach towards me after surgery, with more understanding and compassion, especially since I was there on my own and at the end of the day, she's received all the information required, it doesn't matter from whom. The stress has a significant impact on me. Aside from that, she was great.

The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted
The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted. It’s a great feeling. My goal was a more defined tip, and that's precisely what the surgeon delivered using an open approach. The whole process was smooth, and the staff were genuinely caring. The most difficult part of recovery so far is just having to sleep upright, which is temporary. A huge bonus is that I am breathing perfectly through my nose already. I am so grateful for the surgeon's skill and the clear communication from the team.

the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable
If you’re thinking about arm liposuction, I’d advise you to prepare for the recovery. My surgeon used the VASER ultrasound technique and, although it’s still early days, my compression sleeves are already too loose. My mobility is limited; my biggest difficulty right now is reaching for things above my head. It’s also important to be patient with the results, because when I look in the mirror today, I can see that one arm looks different from the other, and I’m confident that will even out over time. Despite these minor aspects of the process, the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable. I would recommend the clinic.

The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout
My biggest worry was ending up with an unnatural shape, but the surgeon’s approach and clear communication completely put me at ease. Right now, things still look a little patchy as about half the transplanted hairs have fallen out, which I was told to expect during this early stage of healing. It’s a process. The biggest challenge has honestly been a personal one: just remembering to avoid touching them! The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout. While the clinic facilities were fine, the personal care from the team made all the difference. I'm very satisfied with my choice.

Right now, I am feeling better than expected
I remember seeing the computer imaging of my new nose during the consultation and feeling confident. My surgeon was very honest about what was realistic, and I appreciated that he personally handled everything from that first meeting to the surgery itself. He performed an open rhinoplasty to reshape my bridge and tip. Right now, I am feeling better than expected. The clinic staff has been great with follow-up; they've stayed in touch, are easy to reach, and gave me a clear aftercare guide. It was also reassuring that there were no additional expenses. If you're wondering what to bring, don't worry—they prepare you for everything, and nothing was missing for me.
Everything was wonderful, we are very satisfied, everyone was helpful and very kind and the results are the best.

The surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin
I was worried that the scars from the upper and lower eyelid surgery would be noticeable. Fortunately, the surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin. I have no complaints about him whatsoever. However, the overall impression was greatly marred by the clinic itself, where the conditions were unsatisfactory. Recovery is still ongoing. My eyes are still swollen, and I’ve noticed that when I smile, one side looks slightly different. I hope this will pass. The main advice I would give to anyone considering this procedure is to prepare thoroughly for the period before and after the operation.

I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter
I felt very secure and taken care of through the entire experience. All of my inquiries were answered very promptly by both the bookiemed coordinator, the assistant, and my doctor (Dr. C Altindąg), is very experienced and talked me through what to expect and analyzed my nose very thoroughly. I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter (I had a severe deviated septum and other complications from a past surgery that he identified and corrected including a mirgrated graft and a droopy tip). I'm still quite swollen but look forward to seeing final results in a few months.

We will be going back for other treatment and truly can’t recommend them enough
Sitting in the clinic in Antalya, the surgeon explained how the laser-assisted technique for my upper eyelids would function during the procedure. The whole service was smooth and we had a fantastic time throughout our stay. The aftercare was good. I was thrilled with how my eyes looked at 12 days, although at day 15 my biggest challenge is that they are still puffy. My eyes look natural and smooth when I smile. It is a process. We will be going back for other treatment and truly can’t recommend them enough. If you are considering eyelid surgery, ensure you have a few weeks to let the initial swelling settle.

FAQ about Tracheal Shave in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the potential risks and complications of having a tracheal shave (Adam’s apple reduction) in Turkey?

Tracheal shave surgery in Turkey is generally safe when performed by experienced specialists. Potential risks include permanent hoarseness, visible scarring at the incision site, or temporary swallowing difficulties. Major Turkish hospitals use imaging to protect the vocal cords and maintain structural stability.

  • Vocal alterations: Surgeons use precise landmarks to prevent damage to the underlying vocal cords.
  • Scarring: Small incisions are typically hidden in natural neck creases to minimise visibility.
  • Recovery symptoms: Patients often report temporary swallowing discomfort or mild hoarseness for several weeks.
  • Cartilage integrity: Doctors avoid over-reduction to maintain structural support and prevent long-term voice changes.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Quality signals for this procedure depend on surgeon background rather than just clinic facilities. Specialists such as Dr Hasbi Meral hold European Board (EBOPRAS) certification. This is a key indicator of surgical expertise. Choosing a surgeon with ear, nose and throat (ENT) experience often reduces vocal cord risks.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report that temporary hoarseness and a sore throat are normal initially. They suggest confirming the surgeon's experience with the anterior commissure. This helps keep the vocal range protected after surgery.

Will a tracheal shave (Adam’s apple reduction) in Turkey change my voice?

A tracheal shave in Turkey typically does not change the voice permanently. The procedure reduces thyroid cartilage prominence but avoids the vocal cords. Temporary hoarseness for 7–14 days is common. Permanent pitch changes are rare. These are usually linked to aggressive surgery near the vocal fold attachments.

  • Technique focus: Surgeons reduce cartilage without reaching the vocal fold insertion points.
  • Voice safety: ENT specialists at centres like Ento Surgical Medical Center specialise in airway protection.
  • Standard recovery: Most patients regain their full vocal range within 2 weeks of surgery.
  • Skill verification: Specialists like Dr Hasbi Meral hold EBOPRAS certification for high reconstructive standards.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish centres like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Medipol Mega serve over 1,000,000 patients annually. This volume means their specialists handle high-risk airway cases daily. Smaller clinics often offer lower prices. However, a large JCI-accredited hospital provides imaging to map your vocal cords before surgery.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report that everyday speech remains unaffected after the initial healing phase. Many noted a temporary loss of their upper singing range or falsetto. This range usually returned without medical intervention.

What is a tracheal shave (Adam’s apple reduction) and how is the surgery performed in Turkey?

A tracheal shave, or chondrolaryngoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure. It reduces the thyroid cartilage to create a smoother neck contour. In Turkey, specialists typically perform this under general anaesthesia. They use a small horizontal incision in a natural neck crease for minimal scarring.

  • Incision placement: Surgeons hide the small incision in natural skin folds for a subtle scar.
  • Voice safety: Guided by laryngoscopes, doctors identify vocal cord attachments to protect the voice.
  • Cartilage reduction: Specialists carefully shave down the cartilage wedge to achieve a slenderer profile.
  • Fast recovery: This is usually an outpatient procedure. Most patients leave hospital the same day.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish clinics like Ento Surgical Medical Center and Estexper Clinic cater to Australians. They offer specialised experience with this procedure. Many surgeons offer general aesthetics. However, choosing an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist is vital for protecting the vocal cords. Costs in Turkey range from $2,500 to $4,000. This provides significant savings compared to the $5,100 average in Australia.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find the surgery efficient and the results transformative. Some note that scars remain visible for several months. Many emphasise asking for examples of previous reductions to confirm the surgeon's expertise.

How long does a tracheal shave procedure take and what is the typical recovery timeline in Turkey?

A tracheal shave in Turkey typically takes 30 to 90 minutes. Most patients return to light activities within 3 to 5 days. Full internal healing takes 12 to 18 months. Leading Turkish surgical centres usually perform this as a same-day outpatient procedure under general anaesthesia.

  • Clinical stay: Patients usually spend 0–1 nights in hospital for observation after surgery.
  • Initial healing: Plan to stay in Turkey for 7–10 days for suture removal.
  • Swelling peak: Most swelling and bruising occurs between days 3 and 5 post-surgery.
  • Activity limits: Avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for at least 1–2 weeks.
  • Voice recovery: Temporary hoarseness is common. Normal speech usually returns within 1 week.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows Turkey is the top global destination for this procedure. There are 391 specialised clinics serving over 16,800 patients. Centres like Ento Surgical Medical Center in İzmir offer distinct advantages for Australians. They combine 23+ years of ENT expertise with experience treating patients from Australia.

Patient Consensus: The first 48 hours in Turkey involve the most swelling and soreness while swallowing. Patients suggest resting at the hotel and limiting speech during this peak period.

Why do patients travel to Turkey for tracheal shave (Adam’s apple reduction) surgery?

Patients choose Turkey for tracheal shave surgery to access experienced specialists and modern facilities at lower costs. Surgeons in Istanbul and Antalya often perform this as part of gender-affirming care. Prices typically range from $2,500 to $4,000. This represents a 35% saving compared to the $5,100 Australian average.

  • Surgical expertise: Surgeons such as Dr Ali Nurhan Özbaba have performed 30,000+ aesthetic procedures.
  • Accredited facilities: Many centres hold JCI accreditation, a credential familiar to Australian patients.
  • High patient volume: Turkish clinics serve 16,000+ tracheal shave requests annually, ensuring high proficiency.
  • International accessibility: Clinics like Estexper and Ento explicitly cater to many patients from Australia.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While cost is a major draw, the real value in Turkey lies in surgical frequency. Leading specialists often combine tracheal shaves with facial feminisation surgery. This experience allows them to precisely shave the thyroid cartilage while protecting the vocal cord attachment points.

Patient Consensus: Patients find Turkey significantly more affordable than Australia. They frequently combine the shave with other facial procedures. Recovery usually involves manageable swelling and a sore throat. Many choose experienced surgeons to protect their vocal pitch.
