How Much Does EVLA (endovenous laser ablation) Cost in Turkey in AUD?

EVLA in Turkey typically costs from AUD $1,674 to AUD $2,371, depending on the number of veins treated and the clinic location. Compared to Australia, where average costs reach AUD $4,742, patients can save approximately 56%. Most Turkish packages include vascular surgeon consultations, Doppler ultrasound scans, local anaesthetic, and compression stockings for recovery.

  • Procedure complexity: Treating both legs or multiple vein branches increases the final price.
  • City location: Major medical hubs include Istanbul, Ankara, and the coastal city of Antalya.
  • Clinic tier: JCI-accredited facilities often charge 15–20% more than smaller boutique vein clinics.
  • Combined treatments: Adding a miniphlebectomy for smaller surface veins can increase costs by 30%.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Istanbul is the primary hub, specialists like Dr. Ilker Zan in Antalya offer advanced phlebology without surgical incisions. Larger institutions like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental provide the security of JCI accreditation, which audits clinics against international quality standards. Choosing a specialist clinic often allows for walk-in, walk-out treatment with no hospitalisation needed, providing excellent value for Australian travellers.

Data verified by Bookimed as of August 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 34 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

Only 15 days after my laser vein treatment, the veins on both of my legs are completely gone
The most surprising thing is that only 15 days after my laser vein treatment, the veins on both of my legs are completely gone. I wasn't expecting such a clear result this early in recovery. It feels great. From the surgeon to the administrative staff, every person I interacted with at the clinic was professional and genuinely kind, which made the entire process feel very secure. The care I received was excellent and the support provided during this initial healing period has been very reassuring. I'm grateful for the positive outcome and the good service.

To be honest, I am not very satisfied with their work, because after the procedure of sclerotherapy appeared on the arm a large bruise, it hurt and did not pass for a long time for two weeks or more. Also after the procedure in the vein that I was injected with it as it was such and remained, the procedure I consider useless if partially gone, but remained most of the visible.

FAQ about EVLA (endovenous laser ablation) in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How is the EVLA (endovenous laser ablation) procedure performed?

Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that seals diseased varicose veins using thermal energy. Surgeons use ultrasound guidance to insert a thin laser fibre into the vein. Heat collapses the vessel wall without the need for surgical incisions or general anaesthesia.

  • Ultrasound mapping: Specialists use duplex ultrasound to mark the vein course and entry point.
  • Local anaesthesia: Lidocaine numbs the area before a small needle accesses the abnormal vein.
  • Tumescent fluid: Anaesthetic is injected around the vein to protect surrounding nerves and tissues.
  • Laser sealing: Thermal energy cauterises the vein shut as the fibre is slowly withdrawn.
  • Compression therapy: Patients wear compression stockings immediately after to keep the treated vein closed.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic EVLA is standard. However, Turkey's leading specialists like Dr. Ilker Zan often integrate Doppler ultrasound during the procedure. This ensures 100% closure. Clinics like Memorial Bahçelievler provide interventional radiologists who specialise in these needle-based techniques. This often allows patients to fly home within 48 hours.

Patient Consensus: The initial lidocaine injection causes the only real discomfort. It is part of a short outpatient treatment in Turkey. Most patients describe the sensation as a quick sealing or cauterising of the vein, not a surgical removal.

Is general anaesthesia required for EVLA?

General anaesthesia is not required for endovenous laser ablation (EVLA). Specialists in Turkey perform this minimally invasive procedure. They use tumescent local anaesthesia to numb the area. Patients remain awake. They can typically walk out of the clinic immediately after the treatment is finished.

  • Tumescent anaesthesia: Specialists inject diluted local anaesthetic to numb tissues and protect surrounding nerves.
  • Patient awareness: Patients stay responsive during the session, feeling only mild pressure or tugging.
  • Optional sedation: Clinics may offer light sedation for anxiety without the risks of being unconscious.
  • Faster recovery: Avoiding general anaesthetic eliminates grogginess and reduces the risk of deep vein thrombosis.
  • Outpatient nature: Most procedures require no hospital stay, allowing a quick return to daily activities.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish vein specialists like Dr Ilker Zan often perform EVLA without surgical incisions or anaesthetists. Australian patients might expect a theatre setting. However, many JCI-accredited clinics in Istanbul treat this as an in-office procedure. This high-volume approach explains why costs range from $1,200 to $1,700. This is significantly lower than the $3,400 Australian average.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report the initial anaesthetic pinprick is the only real discomfort. They appreciate walking immediately after. They also advise confirming if sedation involves an IV before the local injections.

What is the recovery time after having EVLA in Turkey?

Recovery after EVLA in Turkey is remarkably fast. Most patients walk immediately after the minimally invasive laser procedure. Full resumption of daily routines occurs within 1–2 days. Complete internal healing and vein absorption typically take 2–4 weeks for most Australian patients.

  • Immediate mobility: Patients must walk for 30–40 minutes shortly after the procedure.
  • Initial recovery: Light daily activities and desk work resume within 48 hours.
  • Compression therapy: Medical-grade stockings are worn continuously for the first week.
  • Activity restrictions: Heavy lifting and hot baths are avoided for 14 days.
  • Travel readiness: Surgeons typically clear patients for long-haul flights after 2 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Patients walk the same day. However, Turkish clinics often schedule a follow-up ultrasound within 48 hours. Major centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental use this to ensure the vein has successfully collapsed. This step is vital before clearing international patients for their return journey.

Patient Consensus: Many people feel back to normal within a fortnight. Staying near the clinic helps. Walking right away in Turkey really aids the process.
