The staff were a definite highlight, providing excellent support and guidance throughout the PET-CT with Gallium 68 PSMA scan
I came away with a positive overall impression of the day. The staff were a definite highlight, providing excellent support and guidance throughout the PET-CT with Gallium 68 PSMA scan. They made me feel looked after. The doctor was professional and the clinic itself was well-equipped. My only negative, and the reason for a lower overall score, was the airport transfer. The taxi was difficult for me to get in and out of. More importantly, upon arrival at the airport, I could not find the driver at the designated meeting point, which created unnecessary stress. While the medical care was handled very well, the logistics of the transport could be improved.

It was the right choice
What worried me most was the uncertainty and what the treatment plan would be. But my fears were put to rest after the very first consultation. The doctor was very attentive and explained everything in detail and calmly, which immediately put me at ease. I really appreciate that approach. All the staff at the clinic were responsive and supportive at every stage. The clinic itself made a good impression; everything is well organised. I am currently in the recovery phase and feel much calmer, having a clear understanding of the next steps. It was the right choice.

The surgeon was excellent
What surprised me most about my basalioma treatment wasn't the procedure itself, but the detailed skin examination I received. The surgeon was excellent. He made sure all removal options were discussed clearly, which was reassuring since I already had my diagnosis before arriving. Right now, the treated area is healing very well. While the medical care was superb and the clinic facilities are great, the administrative staff seemed a bit disorganized, which was the only downside. Despite that, based on the surgeon’s work, it’s a place I would suggest to others.
My Bookimed coordinator was highly skilled, had the passion and patience for her work and that translated to the numerous array of options provided to me to choose from based on my budget during the entire process. She interacted with me 24/7 just for us to have solution within my schedule. All information (proforma, visa assistance, travel guidance and estimated personal expenses) for the entire treatment were on point and I encourage all manner of persons seeking medical treatment abroad to choose Bookimed as their medical tourism partner.
1. Interpreter only come when the patient calls for his services and that is only during the day. If the interpreter can also support beyond the interactions with the specialist. 2. Airport and Internal movement are left to the patient to handle which can sometimes be a major challenge for some category of patients and given the language barrier. 3. Hospital discharges are very strict even if you the patient feels he/she need additional day(s) to be fit for a return to the hotel to continue the recovery.

The doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process
My main concern before starting treatment was how my body would react to the drug. I’m undergoing a course of Keytruda immunotherapy for kidney cancer, receiving an infusion every three weeks. Yes, I have experienced some side effects. These are mainly digestive issues, and I feel a little more tired. Of course, I am still concerned that these might get worse over time. But I must say that the doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process.

When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10
My biggest worry was finding a surgeon and team I could completely trust for this personal procedure. That concern disappeared quickly. From the first consultation, the surgeon was professional and the staff were consistently kind, which made the whole process feel secure and well-managed. I'm still in the early stages of healing, but the level of care has been excellent. Everything was clear. When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10. The support has been fantastic.

Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

The diagnostic stage was conducted at a high professional level
If you are currently looking for a place to undergo a CT scan and considering different options, let me share my experience. From the very beginning, the interaction was set up very efficiently. All organizational issues were resolved quickly, coordinators were in touch and provided all the necessary information, which helped to avoid unnecessary stress. Everything at the clinic went according to plan. No delays. The staff acted professionally and cohesively, from registration to the procedure itself. The equipment looked modern, and the environment was calm and clean, which also matters. The doctor who analyzed the images provided clear and understandable explanations of the results. I am still in the recovery process, but the diagnostic stage was conducted at a high professional level. I had no complaints.

The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience
My biggest concern before the operation was the recovery period, but now, 15 days after the prosthetic testicle implant surgery, I can say that things are going as expected. I received a small prosthesis measuring 3.5 cm; although I’m not sure of the brand, I’m satisfied with it. FAQ about Brachytherapy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is brachytherapy in Turkey performed under anaesthesia?

Brachytherapy in Turkey is typically performed under anaesthesia. This helps manage discomfort during the insertion of radioactive sources. Depending on the cancer type and procedure site, specialists use general anaesthesia, spinal blocks, or sedation. Most JCI-accredited clinics in Istanbul include these options as standard for invasive internal radiotherapy.

  • Anaesthesia types: Specialists select general, spinal, or intravenous sedation based on treatment invasiveness.
  • Plaque radiotherapy: Ocular tumour procedures explicitly include general anaesthesia in all-inclusive packages.
  • Cervical cancer: Patients usually receive anaesthesia for applicator placement for total comfort.
  • Prostate treatment: Doctors typically use spinal anaesthesia or sedation for precise needle insertion.
  • Specialist oversight: Professors like Dr Gul Alco use specialised systems for targeted radiation delivery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While traditional brachytherapy requires anaesthesia for needle insertion, some Turkish hospitals now offer MR-Linac needle-free sessions. This non-invasive approach is available at centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental. It can reduce the need for deep sedation. Patients often save up to 79% compared to Australian costs by choosing these technology bundles.

Patient Consensus: Most patients in Turkey receive full sedation or spinal anaesthesia for applicator insertion. Experience varies between centres, but having sedation makes the process smooth and virtually pain-free.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for brachytherapy?

Most patients spend 7 to 14 days in Turkey for brachytherapy. The stay timeframe depends on the treatment type. High-dose rate (HDR) sessions are delivered over several days. Low-dose rate (LDR) treatment involves a continuous inpatient stay of 2 to 4 days.

  • Diagnostic phase: Arrive 2 days before treatment for PET-CT or MRI planning scans.
  • Treatment sessions: Outpatient HDR sessions typically last 30–45 minutes, requiring up to 5 visits.
  • Inpatient stays: Ocular plaque radiotherapy requires a fixed 4-day hospital stay for monitored recovery.
  • Travel window: Wait at least 48 to 72 hours after the final session before flying.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Standard protocols often suggest 10 days. However, Hisar Hospital Intercontinental offers MR-Linac needle-free brachytherapy, which can compress the treatment schedule. Patients opting for this precise, personalised radiation plan should still budget for 2 extra days. These extra days allow time to manage anaesthesia recovery before the long-haul flight back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Clinics in Turkey provide a mix of same-day outpatient care and multi-day inpatient stays. The approach depends on the cancer type. Patients report that sessions under spinal or general anaesthesia often require staying. They may need to stay through the next afternoon for safe discharge.

Are Turkish hospitals reliable for brachytherapy?

Turkish hospitals are highly reliable for brachytherapy. They have Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation and MR-Linac technology for high-precision treatment. Specialist oncology centres in Istanbul and Antalya maintain rigorous standards for prostate and cervical cancers. They often use needle-free techniques to reduce patient discomfort and recovery times.

  • Accredited facilities: Memorial Sisli was the first in Turkey to earn JCI accreditation.
  • Technology: Centres use MR-Linac and PET-CT to track tumours with 1 mm accuracy.
  • Global expertise: Dr Mustafa Solak at Hisar Hospital trained at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Oncology leadership: Anadolu Medical Center is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many centres offer standard internal radiation, Hisar Hospital Intercontinental specialises in needle-free MR-Linac brachytherapy. This technique allows clinicians to adjust radiation in real-time as the tumour moves or shrinks. Data shows this is particularly effective for prostate and cervical cases. It spares more healthy tissue than traditional methods.

Patient Consensus: Patients travelling to Turkey report being impressed by the modern clinics. They also appreciate the highly professional interpreters who assist during every medical appointment. The airport transfers and coordinated care plans made the complex treatment process feel manageable. Patients felt supported throughout.

Is it safe to travel after brachytherapy in Turkey?

The medical team must confirm the radioactive source is removed or the dose has decayed. Once they do, travel after brachytherapy in Turkey is safe. Patients usually wait 1 to 4 days before flying. Specialists at JCI-accredited centres like Anadolu Medical Center provide specific recovery timelines. These timelines depend on the treatment site.

  • Hospital stay: Plaque radiotherapy typically requires a 4-day stay at specialised Istanbul oncology clinics.
  • Technique impact: Needle-free MR-Linac sessions at Hisar Hospital may allow more rapid discharge.
  • DVT prevention: Doctors recommend compression socks and movement during long-haul flights back to Australia.
  • Radiation safety: Sources like Iodine-125 or Ruthenium-106 are typically removed before patients leave hospital.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centres often follow NCCN guidelines. Under these guidelines, hospital stays are built into the package. For example, Associate Professor M. Derda Ozer provides ocular plaque treatments. These include 4 days of inpatient monitoring. This means any immediate post-surgical inflammation is managed before the patient takes a long flight.

Patient Consensus: Patients find the procedure manageable. They suggest resting for several hours if general anaesthesia was used. Clear aftercare information and having a companion help because the day is physically draining.

How soon can I return home after brachytherapy in Turkey?

Patients can typically fly home 5 to 10 days after brachytherapy in Turkey. This timeframe allows specialists to monitor initial side effects and confirm medical clearance. The specific return date depends on the cancer type and whether the treatment involves permanent seeds or multiple sessions.

  • Prostate brachytherapy: Most patients receive same-day discharge or stay 1–2 days for urinary monitoring.
  • Cervical brachytherapy: Expect overnight hospital stays if applicators remain in place between treatment sessions.
  • For ocular plaque therapy, a 4-day stay is required at clinics like Associate Professor M. Derda Ozer DERDA SAGLIK HIZMETLERI.
  • Long-haul flights: Medical teams recommend waiting 2–3 days post-treatment before the flight to Australia.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental offer MR-Linac needle-free sessions. However, the total stay depends on the number of fractions. Patients often need up to 5 sessions. Booking a 14-day stay provides a buffer for recovery from post-radiation fatigue before the long flight home.

Patient Consensus: Fatigue is common and many feel significant improvement by the third week after leaving Turkey. Patients suggest confirming normal bladder function before discharge for a comfortable journey back to Australia.

What types of brachytherapy are available in Turkey?

Turkey provides specialised brachytherapy including high-dose rate (HDR), low-dose rate (LDR), and needle-free MR-Linac techniques. JCI-accredited centres in Istanbul and Antalya treat prostate, cervical, and ocular cancers. They use interstitial, intracavitary, and plaque radiotherapy with Iodine-125 or Ruthenium-106 isotopes.

  • HDR techniques: Deliver intense radiation in short sessions for prostate and breast cancers.
  • LDR permanent seeds: Small radioactive implants remain in the tissue to treat tumours.
  • MR-Linac needle-free: Non-invasive radiation delivery available at centres like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental.
  • Ocular plaque therapy: Specialised surgical placement of radioactive discs to treat eye tumours.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many countries offer standard HDR, Turkish clinics like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental lead with MR-Linac needle-free sessions. This reduces the need for invasive needles in cervical and prostate cases. For ocular tumours, specialists like Dr. Muhammet Derda Ozer combine international fellowship expertise with premium VIP logistics.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find that specialists determine if treatment is temporary or permanent only after consults. Most appreciate having access to diverse isotopes like Iodine-125 and Ruthenium-106.

Which cancers are treated with brachytherapy in Turkey?

Oncology centres in Turkey use brachytherapy for prostate, breast, and gynaecological cancers. The gynaecological cancers treated include cervical and uterine tumours. Specialists also apply this internal radiation to head, neck, skin, and lung cancers. This targeted approach spares healthy tissue. It places radiation sources directly inside or near the tumour.

  • Gynaecological focus: Standard treatment for cervical, vaginal, and vulvar cancers.
  • Prostate techniques: Uses permanent radioactive seeds or high-dose rate (HDR) implants.
  • Breast cancer: Targeted therapy available for early-stage cases to avoid whole-breast radiation.
  • Specialised applications: Used for oesophagus, rectal, and specific eye tumours.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology hubs like Anadolu Medical Center and Acibadem often integrate brachytherapy with CyberKnife. This combination allows doctors to treat complex tumours more aggressively. Patients benefit from shorter treatment cycles and fewer hospital visits compared to standard radiation.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate how quickly they return to normal activities. The clinics organise every step from airport transfers to oncology consultations. Most found the targeted radiation caused far fewer side effects than expected. Professional interpreters made the medical explanations very clear.

Does brachytherapy in Turkey hurt?

Brachytherapy in Turkey is typically not painful. Specialists use general anaesthesia or deep sedation for patient comfort during applicator placement. Most centres now offer needle-free MR-Linac technology. It focuses radiation precisely while significantly reducing physical trauma and procedural discomfort compared to conventional methods.

  • Anaesthesia protocols: Specialists use general or spinal anaesthesia to eliminate pain during insertion.
  • Advanced technology: Centres like Hisar Hospital use MR-Linac for non-invasive, needle-free treatments.
  • Clinical experience: Professor Gul Alco at Medipol Mega has 27+ years of experience.
  • Post-op sensations: Patients typically feel moderate pressure or bladder urgency for 3–5 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics offer conventional brachytherapy, choosing an MR-Linac centre like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental provides a distinct advantage. This needle-free approach allows for real-time anatomical adjustments during treatment. It eliminates the need for invasive catheters and significantly lowers the chance of raw tissue irritation or severe post-procedural pain.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report the radiation phase itself is quick and painless. Insertion feels like strong pressure rather than sharp pain when managed with proper sedation. Most find that lying still for planning is the main challenge. Common side effects include temporary urinary burning and mild spotting.

What do brachytherapy treatment packages in Turkey include?

Brachytherapy treatment packages in Turkey include specialised radiation planning and the surgical procedure. They also cover necessary medical imaging like CT or ultrasound. These bundles often add VIP transfers and language support. Prices range from $4,000 to $6,600, saving up to 79% compared to Australian costs.

  • Clinical components: Covers consultations, specialised radiation oncology planning, and necessary anaesthesia.
  • Imaging and seeds: Includes tumour mapping via CT or USG and radioactive materials like Iodine-125.
  • Hospitalisation: Provides 4 days of hospital stay for plaque radiotherapy at specialised centres.
  • International support: Features VIP airport-clinic transfers and dedicated interpreters to assist during appointments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics offer a generic price. However, Hisar Hospital Intercontinental specifies packages for up to 5 MR-Linac sessions. This clarity helps patients avoid unexpected costs if multi-day targeting is required for complex cases. Precise session counts are rare in base quotes elsewhere.

Patient Consensus: Treatment bundles in Turkey reliably include hospital stays and follow-up care for two weeks. Patients appreciate the seamless airport transfers. They also value the coordinated care for cancer treatments like plaque radiotherapy.
