My surgeon was great; he was honest about what results were realistic for my body and clearly explained all the risks, which gave me confidence
If you're thinking about this, my main piece of advice is to be mentally ready for the procedure, as it can be overwhelming. I’m in early recovery from my breast reduction and lift, and I am feeling better than expected. My surgeon was great; he was honest about what results were realistic for my body and clearly explained all the risks, which gave me confidence. The clinic team was easy to reach and stayed in touch. Do be aware of some additional expenses – I had a prescription that cost extra at the pharmacy. A few practical tips: bring a spare compression garment, cotton t-shirts to wear underneath it, and your own snacks. Also, having my mum with me has been pivotal to my recovery, so I'd suggest bringing a companion if you can.
The co-ordinator at Bookimed, Winnington was brilliant. No matter how many questions I had he was able to answer them promptly and with one small hiccup from the hospital Winnington went out of his way to try and package a new procedure for me. My co-ordinator Eyyub at Optimed hospital was outstanding. The hospital was great, the staff on my floor were fantastic. We used goggle translate when the co-ordinator wasn’t with us if we came up against a language barrier but that was not very often. I was cared for before and after my surgery by the nursing staff who could not do enough for myself and my mum. I 10000000% recommend Bookimed & Optimed hospital
Post op instructions could be better. I have suggested to them to put together a general guide of what to do and not to do and for however long. What’s normal and if something doesn’t feel right who to contact etc. I think this will greatly help international patients and help the hospital co-ordinators from being hounded with a load of questions from several patients all at once. Peace of mind for the patient and a little more support for the co-ordinator. The food is catered for Turkish patients and can be hard for international patients to eat. Again, I have suggested to them to try having a small box of fibrous cereal available at breakfast time and instead of a full meal at lunch time something simple like sandwiches or rolls/bagels/baked goods. Dinner was usually ok and we were able to eat most of that but our daytime diet is a little less than they were providing and there was a lot of food waste which they could minimise & use the money elsewhere if there was a cater to international patients diets.

The single positive aspect of this entire process was the staff. They were wonderful. Unfortunately, my experience with the surgeon and the clinic itself was profoundly disappointing, and I'm very concerned with how my otoplasty recovery is going so far. The gap between the supportive staff and the actual medical treatment I received is hard to understand. The facility did not meet my expectations for a medical setting in any capacity. Based on this, I would absolutely not recommend this clinic to anyone considering a similar procedure.
Do not go with bookimed.com. I didn’t liked from the moment when I arrived to airport anyone wasn’t there to pick me up, you know when you arrive any place you have no internet and you can’t make any phone calls or text so night mares already start.

The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent
The possibility of breathing issues was my primary concern going into this. And honestly, that has been the biggest challenge in recovery so far, with one nostril constantly feeling stuffed. My surgeon performed a closed rhinoplasty. Everything is still very swollen along the bridge, but I can already see that my nose tip appears more refined, which is a great sign. The surgeon and the clinic itself were excellent. The general staff were great, though post-op instructions could have been a bit more explicit. I'm satisfied with the medical care I received so far
Dr. Erol is an amazing doctor, his work was amazing he truly listened to my request and expectations and he was really patient and reassuring. The medical assistance team as well, they really took good care of me, they were present when i needed them.
post-op instructions could’ve been explained better

I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone
I loved the coordinator / interpreter. Totally made me feel at ease and comfortable in what I would only describe as an anxious situation especially with the language barrier and the unknown of where you are going. The surgeon himself was wonderful and even had a coffee with me before hand which made me feel completely at ease. I felt in such safe hands throughout and would recommend my surgeon Dr Yunus Emre Seker and his team to anyone. Thank-you so much :)

The lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement
My biggest worry was how the final result would look, and whether it would be worth the recovery. Even though I’m still quite puffy around my jawline, the lift in my jowls is already a dramatic improvement. That part is a huge relief. The staff and clinic environment were excellent from start to finish. Turning my head feels slightly tight but okay. The surgeon did good work, though I rated them a 4/5 as I felt some communication could have been a bit more compassionate after surgery. The most challenging part has absolutely been sleeping elevated. That's no fun. I would still recommend this clinic.
The Bookined coordinator and the Quartz Clinic staff were fantastic: supportive, helpful, compassionate. All updates were communicated to me promptly. The hotel booked for me is really excellent, with smooth transfers and kind drivers. Spot on!
I didn't give the doctor 5 stars because she made me cry the day after surgery. She could adopt a different approach towards me after surgery, with more understanding and compassion, especially since I was there on my own and at the end of the day, she's received all the information required, it doesn't matter from whom. The stress has a significant impact on me. Aside from that, she was great.

The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted
The moment I saw the result, even with the initial swelling, I could tell the shape was exactly what I wanted. It’s a great feeling. My goal was a more defined tip, and that's precisely what the surgeon delivered using an open approach. The whole process was smooth, and the staff were genuinely caring. The most difficult part of recovery so far is just having to sleep upright, which is temporary. A huge bonus is that I am breathing perfectly through my nose already. I am so grateful for the surgeon's skill and the clear communication from the team.

the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable
If you’re thinking about arm liposuction, I’d advise you to prepare for the recovery. My surgeon used the VASER ultrasound technique and, although it’s still early days, my compression sleeves are already too loose. My mobility is limited; my biggest difficulty right now is reaching for things above my head. It’s also important to be patient with the results, because when I look in the mirror today, I can see that one arm looks different from the other, and I’m confident that will even out over time. Despite these minor aspects of the process, the care provided by the surgeon and all the staff was impeccable. I would recommend the clinic.

The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout
My biggest worry was ending up with an unnatural shape, but the surgeon’s approach and clear communication completely put me at ease. Right now, things still look a little patchy as about half the transplanted hairs have fallen out, which I was told to expect during this early stage of healing. It’s a process. The biggest challenge has honestly been a personal one: just remembering to avoid touching them! The surgeon and staff were brilliant and supportive throughout. While the clinic facilities were fine, the personal care from the team made all the difference. I'm very satisfied with my choice.

The surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin
I was worried that the scars from the upper and lower eyelid surgery would be noticeable. Fortunately, the surgeon did an excellent job – the incisions were made using the traditional method and are now hidden in the natural folds of the skin. I have no complaints about him whatsoever. However, the overall impression was greatly marred by the clinic itself, where the conditions were unsatisfactory. Recovery is still ongoing. My eyes are still swollen, and I’ve noticed that when I smile, one side looks slightly different. I hope this will pass. The main advice I would give to anyone considering this procedure is to prepare thoroughly for the period before and after the operation.

We will be going back for other treatment and truly can’t recommend them enough
Sitting in the clinic in Antalya, the surgeon explained how the laser-assisted technique for my upper eyelids would function during the procedure. The whole service was smooth and we had a fantastic time throughout our stay. The aftercare was good. I was thrilled with how my eyes looked at 12 days, although at day 15 my biggest challenge is that they are still puffy. My eyes look natural and smooth when I smile. It is a process. We will be going back for other treatment and truly can’t recommend them enough. If you are considering eyelid surgery, ensure you have a few weeks to let the initial swelling settle.

I now feel better than I expected
What I remember most about the whole process was the doctor’s approach. Before the operation, he personally marked the incision lines on my upper eyelids and honestly explained what I could realistically expect from the result. The procedure was carried out under general anaesthetic, and I now feel better than I expected. It was a great help that the doctor personally checked on me after the operation, and the clinic provided clear aftercare instructions. There were no additional costs. The only advice I would give to future patients is to make sure you confirm the exact date and time of the operation in advance.

I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter
I felt very secure and taken care of through the entire experience. All of my inquiries were answered very promptly by both the bookiemed coordinator, the assistant, and my doctor (Dr. C Altindąg), is very experienced and talked me through what to expect and analyzed my nose very thoroughly. I breath perfectly now after surgery and my nose is a lot straighter (I had a severe deviated septum and other complications from a past surgery that he identified and corrected including a mirgrated graft and a droopy tip). I'm still quite swollen but look forward to seeing final results in a few months.

FAQ about Body Feminization Surgery in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is it safe for Australians to undergo body feminisation surgery in Turkey?

Body feminisation surgery in Turkey is safe when performed by surgeons with European Board certifications. Surgeons like Dr Can Zeliha Gul or Dr Mert Sizmaz are good examples. Istanbul clinics provide gender-affirming care from $10,000 to $16,000. This saves Australians up to 60% compared to local costs.

  • Certified specialists: Surgeon Dr Mert Sizmaz at Vanity Cosmetic Surgery Hospital has performed 5,800+ procedures.
  • Global credentials: Dr Can Zeliha Gul holds European Board of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (EBOPRAS) certification.
  • Clinical facilities: Medical Park Göztepe Hospital Complex offers intensive care and multidisciplinary surgical support.
  • Specialised techniques: Surgery covers breast augmentation, V-line body contouring, and fat grafting for feminisation.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul clinicians like Dr Ozge Utku Aydemir are highly skilled. However, the distance to Australia makes recovery planning crucial. Clinics often require a 2-week local stay to manage early healing. This 14-day window reduces the risk of travel complications like deep vein thrombosis.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey suggest vetting surgeon experience specifically for transgender procedures. This is better than relying on general plastic surgery experience. Arranging Australian follow-up care before departure helps support the long-term recovery phase.

What are the primary preparation guidelines for Australians travelling to Turkey for body feminisation surgery?

Preparation for body feminisation surgery in Turkey requires hormone management, travel planning, and specific documentation. Australians must pause oestrogen 14 days before flying to reduce blood clot risks. Essential steps include securing a medical visa and coordinating aftercare with their GP before departure.

  • Hormone regulation: Pause oestrogen two weeks before surgery. This lowers deep vein thrombosis (DVT) risks during long flights.
  • Clinical documentation: Carry a GP letter detailing all prescriptions. Keep this in carry-on luggage for airport security.
  • Flight timing: Arrive in Istanbul 2–3 days before surgery. This allows the body to adjust to different time zones.
  • Medical visa: Register via the official HealthTürkiye portal. Australian passport holders need this for surgical travel.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Experience levels vary significantly between centres. While many clinics offer contouring, hospitals like Vanity Cosmetic Surgery Hospital have specialists. Dr Mert Sizmaz has performed over 5,800 procedures. Choosing a high-volume specialist reduces complication risks. Prices in Turkey range from $10,000 to $16,000, offering around 47% savings compared to the $24,400 Australian average.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend staying in Turkey for more than seven days. This helps with managing drains and mobility. Successful outcomes depend on booking lifts with elevator access and arranging recovery support.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for body feminisation surgery and recovery?

Patients typically stay in Turkey for 7 to 10 days for body feminisation surgery. This timeframe allows for tests, the procedure, and post-operative monitoring. Most plans include 1 to 2 nights in hospital followed by hotel recovery and a final check.

  • Hospital stay: Expect 1 to 2 nights for immediate monitoring and pain management.
  • Surgical combination: Allowing 10 to 14 days is recommended for multi-procedure body packs.
  • Fit to fly: Surgeons typically issue travel certificates 7 to 9 days after the procedure.
  • Recovery checks: Final appointments usually occur on day 7 to remove surgical drains.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Surgeons like Dr Mert Sizmaz and Dr Can Zeliha Gul at Vanity Cosmetic Surgery Hospital have performed over 10,000 procedures combined. This high volume means teams are efficient at managing the drainage and wound-care timelines required for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Plan for 10 to 14 days in Turkey to manage swelling and mobility safely. The first week is often the most challenging. Staying longer provides extra reassurance before flying home.

Can I combine breast augmentation and a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) during my body feminisation trip to Turkey?

Patients can combine breast augmentation and a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) during a body feminisation trip to Turkey. This approach reduces time under anaesthesia and package costs. However, it requires strict side-sleeping protocols to protect both the implants and the newly grafted fat cells.

  • Recovery position: Patients must sleep strictly on their sides for 2–6 weeks after surgery.
  • Surgical efficiency: Bundling procedures avoids multiple theatre sessions and reduces overall costs significantly.
  • Clinical expertise: Surgeons like Dr Mert Sizmaz at Vanity Cosmetic Surgery Hospital have performed 5,800+ procedures.
  • Board certification: Qualified specialists often hold EBOPRAS certification and membership in ISAPS or TPRECD.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Combining these surgeries saves money, but the stay in Turkey often extends to 14 days. Vanity Cosmetic Surgery Hospital and Medical Park Bahcelievler employ EBOPRAS-certified surgeons. These doctors specialise in managing simultaneous recoveries. High-volume centres handle the logistics of dual-site wound care efficiently.

Patient Consensus: Travellers to Turkey recommend using body pillows to avoid rolling onto the chest or backside. Coordination with the surgical team ensures aftercare plans cover both compression garments and drain management.
