I feel that we are in safe hands
What worried me most was the uncertainty following the diagnosis. But at the clinic, all the tests required for staging, including the scans, were carried out very quickly, which was a huge relief. The doctors explained the risk category in simple terms, and then we discussed all the possible treatment options in detail. All the specialists are on hand. I feel that we are in safe hands.
Everything's great. I'm really pleased with the results. A professional and meticulous approach. I'd definitely recommend them!

Expert Overview about Neuroblastoma Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Why do international patients choose Turkey for neuroblastoma care?

International families choose Turkey for neuroblastoma care. The country offers high-volume paediatric oncology centres and access to therapies. Leading hospitals provide specialised bone marrow transplants, immunotherapy, and robotic surgery. These come at a fraction of the cost found in the United States or Western Europe.

  • Specialised technology: Clinics use TrueBeam STx and CyberKnife. These allow precise radiation that protects healthy tissue.
  • Expert oncologists: Professors like Dr Ahmet Demir specialise in complex neuroblastoma. They also perform paediatric stem cell rescue.
  • Rigorous standards: Major centres hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation for safety. Memorial Şişli Hospital is one example.
  • Integrated care: Multidisciplinary tumour boards coordinate surgery, chemotherapy, and immunotherapy for high-risk cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey has a unique concentration of paediatric bone marrow units within general oncology centres. Hisar Hospital Intercontinental, for example, treats 250,000 patients annually. It offers allogeneic, autologous, and haploidentical transplants in HEPA-filtered rooms. This infrastructure allows specialists to move from initial chemotherapy to stem cell rescue. There is no need to transfer the child between facilities.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that staging and scans happen very quickly in Turkey. This provides relief during a time-sensitive diagnosis. Families appreciate the fixed translators and friendly staff. They help navigate the journey from the airport to the operating theatre.

What medical methods are used for neuroblastoma treatment in Turkey?

Turkish specialists treat neuroblastoma using a risk-adapted multimodal strategy. They combine surgery, high-dose chemotherapy, and autologous stem cell transplantation. Specialised clinics use targeted immunotherapy and radiotherapy to clear residual disease. These protocols align with international standards like the Children's Oncology Group (COG) for paediatric care.

  • Surgical resection: Surgeons remove localised tumours or debulk larger masses using robotic-assisted platforms.
  • Stem cell rescue: High-dose chemotherapy follows autologous stem cell transplantation for high-risk stage 4 patients.
  • Targeted radiotherapy: Precise systems like TrueBeam STx and Cyberknife control primary sites and metastases.
  • Advanced diagnostics: Doctors use MIBG scintigraphy and genetic mutation testing for accurate risk stratification.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish paediatric oncology stands out due to the high volume of complex stem cell transplants. Hisar Hospital Intercontinental alone treats 250,000 patients annually and operates a specialised bone marrow unit with HEPA-filtered rooms. This infrastructure is vital for neuroblastoma patients. Consolidation therapy requires a sterile environment to prevent infections while the immune system recovers.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that staging tests like PET-CT and MIBG scans are performed quickly in Istanbul. Families value the multidisciplinary tumour boards where surgeons and oncologists collaborate to explain the child's risk category in simple terms.

What is the general roadmap for high-risk neuroblastoma cases in Turkey?

High-risk neuroblastoma treatment in Turkey follows a standardised 18-month roadmap. It involves induction chemotherapy, surgical resection, and consolidation via bone marrow transplant. Major JCI-accredited centres use MIBG-scintigraphy and PET-CT to monitor progress. Examples include Memorial Ankara Hospital and Anadolu Medical Center. This intensive approach maintains high 5-year survival rates for paediatric cases.

  • Induction phase: Surgeons use 5–6 cycles of chemotherapy to shrink tumours before surgery.
  • Consolidation therapy: Specialists perform autologous stem cell transplants in HEPA-filtered rooms to restore marrow.
  • Advanced technologies: Clinics use MR-LINAC and TrueBeam STx to precisely target residual cancer cells.
  • Maintenance support: Protocols include immunotherapy and retinoids to prevent the disease from returning.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centres often provide a clinical advantage by hosting multidisciplinary tumour boards that include paediatric surgeons like Dr Ahmet Nadir Tosyali. Centres such as Hisar Hospital Intercontinental perform allogeneic and haploidentical transplants, which are critical if a child’s own stem cells are not viable. This integrated approach means the entire roadmap occurs within one facility.

Patient Consensus: Families in Turkey emphasise the speed of staging tests and the clarity of risk-category explanations. They note that having an English-speaking coordinator helps manage the long-term transition. This transition goes from surgery to maintenance therapy.
