We would strongly recommend this team to any foreigner visiting Turkey for treatment
I landed on Bookimed while searching for further treatment.. One Dr.Hilal got in touch with me and guided me through the different options available to us. We eventually settled on Florence nightingale hospital and immediately got in touch with Alişer, who walked with us through our preparation and arrival in Turkey as well as the hospital visits. He was kind enough to guide us on what was expected and was always available even at odd hours . The doctors at the Hosp led by Prof Elle and Prof Yusef, treated us with utmost professionalism. They calmly guided us through the process and made us understand what we are dealing with. They were not quick to rush into any interventions.. we felt very safe in their hands. A special thanks to Simaza our interpreter, you are a wonderful human being. Blessings lady. To The Professors, all medical professionals at the hospital, we are grateful. Hilal, Alişer and Simaza you the best. We would strongly recommend this team to any foreigner visiting Turkey for treatment.. we were happy! Blessings

The Liv Hospital Clinic confused my diagnosis. Within two hours, I thought I had cancer.  I immediately wrote to them, the answer came in two and a half hours, as they had no time to double-check. During all this time, my family and I went crazy with horror. Now they wrote to me that the translators were wrong. But pituitary adenoma is spelled the same in all languages. A malignant formation of the parotid gland is a completely different diagnosis.

Expert Overview about Pituitary adenoma Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is the success rate for pituitary tumour removal in Turkey?

Pituitary tumour removal in Turkey has a success rate between 85% and 90%. Leading neurosurgeons achieve these outcomes using minimally invasive endoscopic transnasal surgery. Specialists often perform over 900 brain procedures. Facilities like Anadolu Medical Center maintain affiliations with Johns Hopkins Hospital to maintain high clinical standards.

  • Surgical approach: Surgeons use endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal techniques for minimally invasive access through the nose.
  • Expert volume: Prof. Dr Ertugrul Pinar at Hisar Hospital has performed over 1,100 neurosurgery procedures.
  • Specialised technology: Precision radiosurgery via Gamma Knife is available for tumours that cannot be surgically removed.
  • Accredited care: Major hospitals like Istanbul Florence Nightingale hold JCI accreditation, serving 300,000 patients annually.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While surgical success is high, the best results come from high-volume specialists. Our data shows a significant expertise gap. For example, Dr Omur Gunaldi specialises in endoscopic skull base surgery. Choosing a surgeon with 1,000+ procedures often leads to better hormone control and faster recovery.

Patient Consensus: Patients value the direct communication and professionalism of Turkish medical teams. They note that personal coordinators and translators in Istanbul make the hospital experience feel safe and comfortable.

What is the best type of pituitary tumour surgery available in Turkey?

Endoscopic transnasal transsphenoidal surgery is the primary method for removing pituitary tumours in Turkey. This minimally invasive technique involves entering through the nostrils. It provides better imaging and removes the need for external incisions. This help patients recover faster and avoid visible scarring.

  • Visualisation: High-definition endoscopes allow surgeons to see around corners during the procedure.
  • Clinical precision: Navigation systems act like GPS to help surgeons avoid critical arteries.
  • Shorter stay: Patients typically stay in hospital for 2 to 8 days.
  • Expert teams: Surgeons often collaborate with ENT specialists for better nasal access.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish neurosurgery focuses on high procedural volume for better outcomes. Prof. Dr Ahmet Hilmi Kaya at Anadolu Medical Center performs complex endoscopic resections. Other specialists have handled over 1,100 neurosurgeries. This depth of experience typically leads to more precise tumour removal. It also results in fewer complications compared to lower-volume centres.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey value the direct answers from medical teams. They also appreciate the high level of care from bedside nurses. They note that having clear interpreters is vital for understanding hormone monitoring plans after surgery.

Is radiotherapy like Gamma Knife available for pituitary tumours in Turkey?

Gamma Knife and other stereotactic radiosurgery options are widely available in Turkey for pituitary tumours. Major JCI-accredited clinics in Istanbul, such as Medipol Mega and Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale, provide this service. It offers a precise, non-invasive alternative to traditional brain surgery.

  • Technological availability: Specialist centres offer Gamma Knife and CyberKnife for recurrent or residual pituitary tumours.
  • Expert specialists: Professor Dr Salih Murat Imer at Florence Nightingale has over 30 years' experience.
  • Cost details: Gamma Knife packages in Istanbul may cost approximately A$9,700 including VIP transfers.
  • Clinical excellence: High-volume centres like Medipol Mega serve 1,000,000 patients annually using modern radiosurgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Gamma Knife is ideal for smaller lesions. Turkish neurosurgery professors often combine their expertise. Professor Dr Salih Murat Imer and Professor Dr Ahmet Hilmi Kaya specialise in both radiosurgery and endoscopic transnasal techniques. This allows for a tailored approach if a tumour is too large for radiation alone.

Patient Consensus: Patients note the efficiency of Turkish clinics. Transfers and interpreters are organised seamlessly. Those visiting Istanbul clinics like Memorial Sisli highlight the professional care and fast communication with the medical team.

What is the typical recovery time after pituitary surgery in Turkey?

Recovery after pituitary surgery in Turkey typically involves a 2 to 8 day hospital stay. Most patients return to light daily activities within 2 to 4 weeks. Full recovery usually takes 6 to 12 weeks. Specialised centres like Anadolu Medical Center may include up to 8 days of inpatient observation.

  • Hospital discharge: Patients are typically discharged within 2 to 8 days following endoscopic surgery.
  • Initial activity: Light walking is encouraged within 1 to 2 weeks post-surgery.
  • Work timeline: Desk-based employees often return to work after 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Physical restrictions: Heavy lifting and nose blowing must be avoided for 6 to 12 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic recovery appears fast, hospital stays in Turkey vary significantly by clinic. Packages at Anadolu Medical Center include 8 days of inpatient care for A$23,300. Central Hospital offers 2 days for A$20,700. Patients should choose longer stays if they lack local post-operative support before flying back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey note that while physical healing feels quick, managing fatigue and hormonal adjustments takes longer. They emphasise staying extra days locally for stability before the long flight home.

How long should an Australian patient plan to stay in Turkey for pituitary tumour treatment?

Australian patients should plan for a 14 to 21-day stay in Turkey for pituitary tumour treatment. Hospital stays typically last 2 to 8 days. Most neurosurgeons require patients to remain locally for 2 weeks. This ensures it is safe to fly after transnasal or open surgery.

  • Clinical stay: Inpatient recovery at Anadolu Medical Center typically ranges from 8 to 13 days.
  • Monitoring period: Doctors observe patients for 14 days post-surgery to check for fluid leaks.
  • Nonsurgical options: Gamma Knife treatments at Gayrettepe Florence Nightingale Hospital require only 4 hotel nights.
  • Travel clearance: Specialists usually clear patients for long-haul flights approximately 2 weeks after the procedure.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many surgeries at Central Hospital involve only 2 hospital days. However, the travel buffer is non-negotiable. Australian patients face a 20-hour flight. Staying 14 days allows surgeons to manage hormonal shifts that often occur 1 week after pituitary removal.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it is important to leave a buffer of several days after discharge. This helps with follow-up appointments for wound care and medication adjustments in Turkey.
