The surgeon was excellent
What surprised me most about my basalioma treatment wasn't the procedure itself, but the detailed skin examination I received. The surgeon was excellent. He made sure all removal options were discussed clearly, which was reassuring since I already had my diagnosis before arriving. Right now, the treated area is healing very well. While the medical care was superb and the clinic facilities are great, the administrative staff seemed a bit disorganized, which was the only downside. Despite that, based on the surgeon’s work, it’s a place I would suggest to others.
My Bookimed coordinator was highly skilled, had the passion and patience for her work and that translated to the numerous array of options provided to me to choose from based on my budget during the entire process. She interacted with me 24/7 just for us to have solution within my schedule. All information (proforma, visa assistance, travel guidance and estimated personal expenses) for the entire treatment were on point and I encourage all manner of persons seeking medical treatment abroad to choose Bookimed as their medical tourism partner.
1. Interpreter only come when the patient calls for his services and that is only during the day. If the interpreter can also support beyond the interactions with the specialist. 2. Airport and Internal movement are left to the patient to handle which can sometimes be a major challenge for some category of patients and given the language barrier. 3. Hospital discharges are very strict even if you the patient feels he/she need additional day(s) to be fit for a return to the hotel to continue the recovery.

Excellent clinic, attentive and meticulous (in a good sense) doctors
Bookimed staff and interpreters accompanied us every step of the way, we got answers to all our questions. Comfortable room for the patient and the attendant (in our case) Excellent clinic, attentive and meticulous (in a good sense) doctors. The medical staff also, put all the drips, served and made all the analyses on schedule. All promptly and without unnecessary questions. Tasty and nourishing food was provided for both the patient and the attendant. On the territory of the hospital is a beautiful small park for walking, as well as in the clinic itself there are many places for rest and waiting The clinic met all expectations and costs
What I liked most was the competence and attentiveness of the doctors

"Clinic definitely recommend
When they learned what was needed in the clinic, they didn’t even know where to run and whom to contact. Coordinators helped to select a clinic. They gave us a doctor. Everything went great, the doctor is a true professional.  Separately, I want to note the attitude to patients. We were met at the airport, brought to the clinic and there was already a translator waiting. Literally "by the hand" we were taken to the doctors, everyone translated. Then they provided a taxi to the hotel.   During the operation, the ward was provided for two people - for the patient and the attendant; both of them were included in the cost of the operation.   After surgery, the doctor held a consultation, making sure that you can fly back. And only then answered questions remotely that arose.  Clinic definitely recommend

Expert Overview about Basalioma Treatment in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the primary treatment options for basalioma in Turkey?

Primary treatment for basalioma in Turkey focuses on surgical precision. It uses Mohs micrographic surgery and standard excision. Specialist clinics in Istanbul and Antalya also provide non-surgical options. These include radiation therapy and topical treatments. These procedures aim to remove the cancer, preserve healthy skin, and achieve clear margins.

  • Mohs microsurgery: Specialists remove skin layers sequentially to achieve complete cancer removal while sparing tissue.
  • Surgical excision: Surgeons remove the tumour with a healthy margin to prevent recurrence after diagnosis.
  • Radiation therapy: This non-invasive option suits patients where surgery is difficult or for superficial cases.
  • Topical treatments: Doctors prescribe specialised creams for low-risk, superficial lesions when surgery is not ideal.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centres often combine surgical expertise with diagnostics like BRAF gene mutation testing. Prof. Dr. Haluk Duman at Anadolu Medical Center has experience from MD Anderson Cancer Center. He brings this to complex skin cancer cases. His high-level training shapes reconstructive surgery after tumour removal. It focuses on both medical clearance and aesthetic results.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate the meticulous skin examinations. They also value the presence of competent interpreters during consultations. Many note that major hospitals provide seamless support. This includes airport transfers and ward accommodation for both the patient and an attendant.

Is Mohs micrographic surgery widely available in Turkey?

Mohs micrographic surgery is available in Turkey. It is primarily available in major oncology centres in Istanbul, Ankara, and Antalya. Access is concentrated in JCI-accredited hospitals. These hospitals maintain specialised dermatopathology labs for real-time tissue analysis. This technique is more common in private international departments than in regional public facilities.

  • Specialised centres: Some facilities provide the required lab infrastructure. Examples include Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Ankara Hospital.
  • Accredited standards: Leading Turkish clinics hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. This confirms their surgical and lab precision.
  • Expert surgeons: Specialists like Prof. Haluk Duman at Anadolu Medical Center focus on reconstructive surgery. They perform it after skin tumour removal.
  • Integrated pathology: Hospitals like Hisar Hospital Intercontinental use on-site frozen section labs. These labs confirm clear margins during surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Turkish clinics promote skin lesion removal. However, true Mohs microsurgery requires a specific lab setup. Data shows that top-tier hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center serve over 65,000 patients annually. They are also affiliated with Johns Hopkins. This gives them the high-level pathology essential for Mohs. Smaller cosmetic clinics lack this capability.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey highlight the importance of detailed skin examinations. They also note that surgeons provide clear removal options. They frequently mention that interpreters and coordinators assist throughout the process. However, some administrative tasks can feel disorganised.

Why is Turkey a popular destination for basalioma treatment?

Turkey is a leading destination for basalioma treatment. This is due to its concentration of JCI-accredited oncology centres and high-volume specialists. Patients access advanced techniques like Mohs micrographic surgery and reconstructive microsurgery. Rapid admission protocols typically allow diagnosis and surgical removal. Both can be completed within 1 to 3 days.

  • Specialised techniques: Clinics offer Mohs micrographic surgery and cryodestruction to preserve healthy skin tissue.
  • Expert specialists: Prof. Haluk Duman at Anadolu Medical Center trained at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
  • Accredited facilities: Major centres like Memorial Şişli Hospital hold Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.
  • Integrated support: Clinics provide personal coordinators, medical interpreters, and airport transfers for international patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center stands out for complex skin cancer cases. This is because it combines pathology expertise with plastic surgery. Dr. Huseyin Baloglu holds a patent in molecular diagnostics. Prof. Haluk Duman specialises in maxillofacial reconstruction. This pairing provides precise tumour removal and superior aesthetic results for facial lesions.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate the meticulous skin examinations. They also value that surgeons clearly explain all removal options. Many note the high level of comfort. Hospital rooms are designed to accommodate both the patient and an attendant at no extra cost.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for basalioma treatment?

Patients typically need to stay 3 to 7 days in Turkey for basalioma treatment. This covers the initial specialist consultation, outpatient removal, and mandatory post-operative check. If Mohs microsurgery is required, plan for a 5-day stay. This allows proper wound monitoring before flying home.

  • Surgical timeframe: Standard excision usually requires 3 to 7 days for safe travel clearance.
  • Mohs microsurgery: Plan for 3 to 5 days to allow for staged tissue analysis.
  • Non-surgical options: Cryotherapy or curettage typically only require a 2 to 3-day stay.
  • Suture management: Stitches are often removed by a local GP after 7-14 days.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many patients focus on the surgery. However, Dr Haluk Duman at Anadolu Medical Center often recommends staying 72 hours post-op. This window is critical for monitoring flap or graft viability. It is especially important for lesions on the face or nose.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that the actual removal may take under an hour. However, staged procedures like Mohs require a full day. In Turkey, having an interpreter during the detailed skin examination provides reassurance. This is helpful before the procedure begins.
