"I was extremely satisfied with everything that happened to me at this wonderful hospital"
I was extremely satisfied with everything that happened to me at this wonderful hospital. I don't think that there is a hospital in Asia which can compare with this one. From the doctors to the nurses and all other personell in this hospital ALL are competent, very polite and friendly - the only small criticism that I have is that unfortunately many don't speak English very well, that's a great shame.

I am very happy with the treatment I've so far received at Bumrungrad International Hospital. Beginning last year, I've made three separate visits for treatment at the hospital. The staff are extremely professional and efficient using very modern equipment. The cost of treatment is competitive. I would strongly recommend it to other people looking for medical care.

FAQ about Thyroid resection in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What advanced surgical techniques are available in Thailand for thyroid resection?

Thailand offers advanced scarless thyroid resection techniques including transoral endoscopic surgery (TOETVA) and robotic-assisted thyroidectomy using the da Vinci system. Leading JCI-accredited facilities like Bumrungrad International Hospital specialise in these minimally invasive approaches to eliminate neck scarring and accelerate patient recovery.

  • Scarless access: Surgeons use TOETVA to operate through hidden incisions inside the lower lip.
  • Robotic precision: Systems at Bumrungrad International Hospital provide 3D high-definition views for complex resections.
  • Nerve monitoring: Intraoperative nerve monitoring tracks laryngeal nerves to protect the patient's voice.
  • Axillary approach: Endoscopic techniques allow thyroid removal through small incisions tucked into the armpit.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows Bumrungrad International Hospital treats 1 million patients annually with 50% being international. Their high-volume oncology and robotic departments mean surgeons handle complex thyroid cases regularly. Choosing such high-capacity centres often ensures access to intraoperative nerve monitoring as a standard safety tool.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend choosing high-volume specialists over hospital prestige to ensure better nerve preservation. They suggest confirming a follow-up plan for calcium and thyroxine monitoring before returning to Australia.

How long should I plan to stay in Thailand for surgery and recovery?

Plan for a stay of 10 to 14 days in Thailand for a thyroid resection. This timeframe covers pre-operative blood work, the surgical procedure, and critical post-operative monitoring. Most patients require 1 to 2 nights in hospital before receiving essential flight clearance from their surgeon.

  • Clinical review: Allow 1 to 2 days for pre-surgical tests and anaesthesia consultations.
  • Hospital stay: Expect to spend 2 nights in a facility like Bumrungrad International Hospital.
  • Initial recovery: Spend 5 to 7 days resting in a nearby air-conditioned hotel.
  • Wound care: Attend follow-up appointments on day 7 for drain removal and incision checks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While a standard thyroidectomy ranges from Price on request to Price on request , the complexity of thyroid resection surgery often extends the recovery period. Clinics in Bangkok serves over 1,000,000 patients annually because they bundle pathology reviews into the 10-day stay. This ensures all results are clear before patients depart for Australia.

Patient Consensus: Travellers recommend flexible return flights to accommodate pathology results and managed drainage. It is wise to avoid heavy commitments immediately after returning home from Thailand to manage post-surgical fatigue.

Which hospitals in Thailand are recommended for thyroid surgery?

Recommended hospitals in Thailand for thyroid surgery include JCI-accredited facilities in Bangkok and Pattaya specialising in minimally invasive techniques. Bumrungrad International Hospital and Bangkok Hospital are leading centres. They offer advanced transoral endoscopic approaches, saving patients up to _price_percent_discount_% compared to the _price_compare_AU_average_ Australian average cost.

  • Bumrungrad International Hospital: Serves 1,000,000+ patients annually with specialised cervical lymph node mapping.
  • Bangkok Hospital: Pioneers scarless transoral endoscopic surgery through the lower lip.
  • Bangkok Hospital Pattaya: Holds JCI and Temos accreditations as a major regional diagnostic centre.
  • Specialised surgical access: Clinics offer axillary, breast, and transoral approaches to hide scars.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many choose Bumrungrad for its Newsweek-ranked status, Bangkok Hospital is often preferred for TOETVA. This scarless method is ideal for those prioritising cosmetic outcomes. Choosing these higher-volume centres ensures access to multidisciplinary teams that handle 2,000+ surgeries annually.

Patient Consensus: Patients suggest prioritising ENT specialists with high procedure volumes over hospital branding alone. Clear English instructions for calcium monitoring and drain care made the recovery in Thailand much easier.
