How Much Does Stem cell therapy for Eye disease Cost in Thailand in AUD?

Stem cell therapy for eye disease in Thailand typically costs from AUD $11,502 / ฿A391,080 to AUD $24,443 / ฿A831,046. The final price depends on the specific condition, cell source, and required cell count. Australians often save around 49% compared to local private costs of AUD $22,717 / ฿A772,384. Packages generally include specialist consultations, stem cell administration, and airport transfers for international patients.

  • Autologous stem cells: Using your own cells usually costs 20–30% more than donor options.
  • Cell dosage: Higher cell counts (up to 80 million) significantly increase the total treatment price.
  • Umbilical cord cells: Specific protocols using umbilical cord blood often form mid-range pricing tiers.
  • Bangkok medical hubs: Treatment in the capital provides access to the most advanced ophthalmic facilities.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While Thailand is a popular hub, Australians often choose Bangkok clinics for their high standards. Clinics like STC Clinic serve over 1,500 patients annually and specialise in regenerative medicine. Specialists like Dr Ponpawee Jindarak bring international experience from fellowships at institutions like the University of Illinois. This combination of global training and lower overheads ensures excellent value for eye treatments.

The team followed through on every detail discussed
Sitting in the consultation room while the surgeon explained the precise use of 50-100 million umbilical cord stem cells gave me a clear sense of the technical path ahead. Fifteen days after the treatment, I am already noticing some improvement in my overall physical state. The application was smooth, and I experienced no injection site reactions or inflammatory flare-ups afterward. Recovery is just beginning. Every interaction with the clinic staff was handled with professional efficiency, ensuring that the logistical side of the medical travel was as controlled as the procedure itself. It is important to stay patient during this early window while the body starts to respond to the cells. The team followed through on every detail discussed.
Josh and team had fantastic thorough communication
Not sure... give me extra stem cells. Maybe have more food?

It was a terrible experience which I never want to go through again. Upon arrival at the hospital, the consultant , Jeab who led me there was not present to receive me. Instead I was attended by the medical sstaff who flatly shot down the agreed quotations offered by Jeab and even said they do not need the VDO anymore so they could not offer me what Jeab did and I was told I had to pay 3 times the proce of what I was offered before. Consequent to the price dispute, there were lots of bleak moments between the consultant and the medical staff internally then I was made to wait for over two hours then they suddenly reversed to ask for VDO compromised on an agreed price. I repeated said no to revealing my face for the VDO and the secretary Kimmy assured me my face will not be shown on camera. Prior to seeing the doctor, I was told to made payment first. For every doctor consultation, I had to go to the cashier to complete the payment and I was seeing two different doctors meant I had to repeat same process twice touring the entire medical centre so many times. What was most stupid was that I was never informed that I had to pay out of pocket for the Covid-9 test which I deem really unfair when there was konsixh prior information and they just dumped all the hidden cost on me. I only did the arm Vader+body tite along with pick laser for vaginal and I was made to go from building to building spending 7 hours there the entire day is really uncalled for!!!

FAQ about Stem cell therapy for Eye disease in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is stem cell therapy for eye disease in Thailand safe?

Stem cell therapy for eye disease in Thailand is generally safe at accredited facilities. Safety relies on mesenchymal stem cells from reputable labs and oversight by specialised ophthalmologists. These specialists often hold fellowships from recognised institutions in the USA or Australia.

  • Specialist credentials: Dr Ponpawee Jindarak at Intrarat Hospital holds a US-based clinical fellowship in glaucoma.
  • Lab partnerships: STC Clinic partners with LBM Lab for quality control of mesenchymal cells.
  • Cell sourcing: Providers typically use umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells for regenerative eye treatments.
  • Clinical techniques: Clinics offer exosome therapy and growth factor solutions alongside standard cell-based treatments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand has over 150 clinics. The safest path involves choosing hospitals with on-site ophthalmology departments. Dr Ponpawee Jindarak trained at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in the US. This adds international safety standards that general wellness clinics often lack.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend verifying if an ophthalmologist oversees the treatment. They suggest getting a specialist opinion in Australia first. Patients also recommend checking if the clinic publishes its safety data.

What is the expected success rate of stem cell therapy for eye disease in Thailand?

Stem cell therapy for eye disease in Thailand shows improvement rates between 81.3% and 83% for conditions like optic nerve atrophy. Clinics in Bangkok use mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and exosome therapy to repair tissue. Outcomes depend on the disease stage and specific pathology.

  • Success rates: Optic nerve damage treatments report up to 83% visual improvement.
  • Disease stage: Patients in early or moderate stages often see better results.
  • Cell types: Specialists use mesenchymal stem cells from umbilical cords for regeneration.
  • Certified specialists: Dr. Ponpawee Jindarak at Intrarat Hospital holds specialised US-based glaucoma fellowships.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Improvement rates reach 81.3%. Patients should look for clinics partnering with specialised laboratories. STC Clinic in Bangkok works with LBM Lab for quality control. This oversight helps confirm the potency of umbilical cord cells used in vision repair.

Patient Consensus: Treatment in Thailand feels experimental and outcomes vary for every person. Patients recommend asking for published clinical trial data for your specific condition. Most people suggest ignoring high success guarantees for advanced vision loss.

What eye diseases are suitable for stem cell therapy in Thailand?

Thailand clinics provide stem cell therapy for degenerative eye conditions. These include optic nerve atrophy, retinitis pigmentosa, and macular degeneration. Bangkok specialists use mesenchymal stem cells from umbilical cords to target damaged retinal cells. They treat underdeveloped optic nerves through retrobulbar or intravenous administration.

  • Optic nerve atrophy: Addresses nerve damage to potentially improve signal transmission from eye to brain.
  • Retinitis pigmentosa: Uses mesenchymal cells to rescue malfunctioning retinal cells and slow vision loss.
  • Macular degeneration: Targets age-related cellular decay within the macula to preserve central vision.
  • Underdeveloped nerves: Treats optic nerve hypoplasia and septo-optic dysplasia, often in paediatric cases.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bangkok clinics like STC Clinic process mesenchymal cells through specialised labs for high viability. While Thailand is a global hub, these treatments remain experimental. Patients should seek specialists like Dr Ponpawee Jindarak at Intrarat Hospital, who holds US fellowship training.

Patient Consensus: Retinitis pigmentosa is the most discussed condition for treatment in Thailand. Patients recommend verifying trial registrations and weighing risks. This is important because these regenerative procedures are still experimental.

What should Australian patients look for when choosing a clinic in Thailand for eye stem cell therapy?

Australian patients should choose Thai clinics with international fellowships and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. Vital factors include specialist credentials in ophthalmology and documented quality control for cell processing. Patients should also check for transparent protocols for conditions like macular degeneration.

  • Specialist credentials: Seek ophthalmologists like Dr Ponpawee Jindarak at Intrarat Hospital with fellowships from US universities.
  • Lab standards: Verify quality control through partners like LBM Lab for cell viability.
  • Specific technologies: Check for mesenchymal stem cells, exosome therapy, or growth factor solutions.
  • Regulatory compliance: Check that the facility follows international standards for processing and handling stem cells.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand has over 150 clinics providing regenerative medicine. Focus on those with dedicated research partnerships. The price for eye stem cell therapy ranges from $8,000 to $17,000. This reflects the complexity of laboratory-grown mesenchymal cells versus basic solutions.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend asking for a simple explanation of the cell source. They also suggest requesting documented quality-control data before booking. In Thailand, patients should prioritise medical centres with clear follow-up plans over facilities focused on tourism.

How is the stem cell therapy procedure performed for eye disease in Thailand?

Stem cell therapy for eye disease in Thailand uses regenerative mesenchymal cells to repair damaged ocular tissues. Specialists typically deliver umbilical cord-derived stem cells via targeted injections or intravenous infusions. These protocols aim to treat retinal degeneration, optic nerve damage, or corneal injuries in Bangkok clinics.

  • Mesenchymal cells: Clinics use mesenchymal stem cells from umbilical cord blood to reduce ocular inflammation.
  • Delivery methods: Specialists use intravenous infusions or local injections based on the specific eye condition.
  • Combination protocols: Treatments often include exosome therapy and growth factor solutions to boost tissue repair.
  • Expert assessment: Specialists like Dr Ponpawee Jindarak at Intrarat Hospital assess suitability for degenerative conditions.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many expect direct eye surgery, Thai clinics frequently use systemic intravenous infusions. Centres like STC Clinic in Bangkok serve 1,500+ patients annually by combining stem cells with exosomes. This dual approach aims to improve cellular uptake without always requiring invasive intraocular procedures.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand often receive exosomes and stem cells within a single session. Many find clinics require proof of travel bookings to coordinate these specialised regenerative protocols effectively.

How long should I plan to stay in Thailand for eye stem cell therapy?

Patients should plan to stay in Thailand for 3 to 14 days for eye stem cell therapy. Standard protocols for retinal or optic nerve conditions often require 3 to 7 days. This time covers consultations and infusions. More intensive cases may need 10 to 14 days for recovery and monitoring before travel.

  • Short-term protocol: Standard outpatient infusions typically require a 3–7 day stay in Bangkok.
  • Monitoring buffer: Clinics recommend 3–5 days post-treatment to monitor for any adverse reactions.
  • Specialised delivery: Retrobulbar injections or surgical applications often extend stays to 10–14 days.
  • Laboratory quality: STC Clinic partners with LBM Lab for high-quality mesenchymal stem cells.
  • Specialist expertise: Dr Ponpawee Jindarak at Intrarat Hospital holds international fellowships in glaucoma and ophthalmology.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics suggest a quick 3-day turnaround. However, specialists like Dr Ponpawee Jindarak at Intrarat Hospital often require follow-up imaging. This process is rarely a one-off visit. Regenerative protocols for the eye frequently involve multiple doses over several months. Booking a stay near the clinic helps, as Bangkok traffic can complicate daily commutes for post-injection reviews.

Patient Consensus: Visitors to Thailand suggest booking flexible return flights. This is because protocols for eye treatments are clinic-specific and experimental. Patients often build in extra buffer days for reassessment needs or travel tiredness after the procedure.
