I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

Our Denture Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Denture, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Full Dentures Installation

Full dentures installation involves fitting a complete set of artificial teeth to replace all missing teeth in the upper or lower jaw.

Pros: Suitable for patients with no remaining teeth. Offers a non-invasive solution compared to implant options. Usually completed in fewer appointments than hybrid solutions.
Cons: Less stability than implant-supported options. May require regular adjustments due to bone resorption. Can affect taste and oral sensations.
Effectiveness: 85-90% success rate in restoring oral function.
Duration: 2-3 weeks for complete fitting.
Recovery: 1-2 weeks for initial adjustment.
Best for: Patients missing all teeth in one arch. Provides a cost-effective tooth replacement solution.
Prices: Cost of Full dentures installation in Thailand from AUD $520

Hybrid All-on-4 Implant Denture

This procedure involves securing a full arch of prosthetic teeth onto four strategically placed dental implants for a stable and permanent solution.

Pros: Provides a more stable and permanent solution compared to removable dentures. Allows for normal chewing and speaking functions with up to 98% success rate. Less invasive than full arch implant solutions.
Cons: Requires a surgical procedure, which may not be suitable for all patients. Longer healing time compared to immediate dentures.
Effectiveness: 98% success rate for implant integration.
Duration: 2-3 hours
Recovery: 3-6 months
Best for: Patients needing full arch tooth replacement with stable, non-removable dentures.
Prices: Cost of Hybrid All-on-4 implant denture in Thailand from AUD $12,103

Immediate Dentures Installation

This procedure involves fitting false teeth immediately after tooth extraction to ensure no gap during healing.

Pros: Provides immediate tooth replacement, maintaining oral aesthetics. Reduces healing time by 50% compared to waiting for gum healing before denture fitting.
Cons: May require more adjustments than full dentures due to gum shrinkage. Less stable than hybrid All-on-4 implants, which are fixed.
Effectiveness: 85% success rate in maintaining oral function.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: 2-4 weeks
Best for: Individuals needing immediate tooth replacement post-extraction. Suitable for 1-4 missing teeth.
Prices: Cost of Immediate dentures installation in Thailand from AUD $2,136

4-implant Overdenture Supported by a CAD/CAM Titanium Bar

This procedure involves using a computer-aided design and manufacturing process to create a titanium bar that supports an overdenture on four dental implants.

Pros: Provides enhanced stability compared to full dentures installation. Offers 90% success rate in improving oral function and comfort. Less invasive than hybrid All-on-4 implant denture.
Cons: Requires more surgical steps than immediate dentures installation. Higher maintenance for cleaning compared to traditional dentures.
Effectiveness: 95%
Duration: 3-5 hours
Recovery: 7-10 days
Best for: 4-implant support, superior stability, and improved chewing function.

FAQ about Denture in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are Thai dentists qualified for the fabrication of dentures?

Thai dentists are highly qualified in denture fabrication. Many specialists hold American Board of Prosthodontics certification. Leading centres in Bangkok and Chiang Mai maintain JCI accreditation and ISO standards. This means prosthetic work meets international safety and hygiene requirements comparable to Australian private practices.

  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Tarin Piangsuk at CIDC are American Board-certified prosthodontists.
  • Digital technology: Clinics use CAD/CAM workflows and Ivoclar Vivadent materials for a precise fit.
  • Hospital standards: BIDH Dental Hospital provides hospital-grade sterilisation and specialised sedation dentistry options.
  • High volume: Bangkok International Dental Center serves 15,000+ patients annually from Australia and Europe.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows Thai clinics like Kitcha Dental have maintained local reputations for 40+ years. General dentists are capable. However, patients should direct complex full-mouth rehabilitations to prosthodontists at JCI-accredited facilities. This helps achieve better jaw alignment and occlusion records.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report smooth experiences with quick, painless implant and denture placements. Staff provide immediate reassurance. Coordinators assist with translations and scheduling to keep treatment timelines on track.

What accreditation should I look for in a Thai dental clinic for dentures?

Look for Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation as the top global safety standard. Clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center (BIDC) hold this. Check for ISO 9001:2015 certification for quality management. Also look for Thai Dental Association membership for local regulatory compliance.

  • JCI accreditation: This shows the clinic meets the same safety standards as major hospitals.
  • ISO 9001 certification: Hospitals like Intrarat Hospital use this to guarantee consistent service quality.
  • Thai Dental Association: Membership confirms dentists like Dr. Vichulada Phunthikaphadr are locally registered.
  • Prosthodontics board certification: Specialists at BIDH may be recognised by the American Board of Prosthodontics.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bookimed data shows that 70+ doctors at BIDC and 50+ at BIDH often hold US board certifications. This specialist density is rare globally. It suggests these clinics function as hubs where dentures are a daily routine.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report that hospital-based centres provide reassurance through professional staff. They often mention pain-free procedures. Patients suggest asking for clinic licences and dentist registrations to confirm credentials before travel.

How do I ensure I have appropriate documentation for follow-up care with my Australian GP or dentist after getting dentures in Thailand?

Secure documentation by requesting a formal treatment summary. It should specify denture materials, bite registrations, and lab technical notes. Before leaving Thailand, obtain digital copies of pre- and post-treatment X-rays and scans. Note international brands like Straumann or Ivoclar Vivadent. This allows Australian clinicians to manage long-term follow-up care.

  • Clinical summary: Request written notes on extractions, bone healing, and specific denture types.
  • Material specifications: List exact materials used, such as acrylic, flexible resin, or monolithic zirconia.
  • Technical data: Secure digital copies of impressions, OPG scans, and bite registration records.
  • Implant details: For overdentures, obtain serial numbers and models for implant systems used.
  • Dentist credentials: Keep records of qualifications from specialists, such as Dr Tarin Piangsuk at CIDC.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian dentists often struggle to adjust hybrid or implant-supported dentures without specific technical data. High-volume hubs like Bangkok International Dental Center provide English records. They also use globally standard Straumann parts. This simplifies care in Australia, as parts are compatible with local tools.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend saving all scans, photos, and itemised receipts as PDFs. Most found that a simple aftercare sheet helped their local dentist provide faster adjustments. This sheet should cover cleaning and pressure sore management.

What types of dentures are available at dental clinics in Thailand?

Thai dental clinics provide several denture options. These include removable acrylic or flexible partials, complete full-mouth sets, and stable implant-supported solutions. Major centres in Bangkok and Chiang Mai use recognised systems like Straumann and Ivoclar Vivadent. These systems provide high durability and a natural appearance for Australian patients.

  • Removable partials: Clinics offer acrylic or flexible Valplast options to replace specific missing teeth.
  • Full dentures: Complete upper or lower sets are available for total tooth loss.
  • Implant-supported overdentures: These snap onto 2-4 dental implants for superior stability and comfort.
  • Hybrid fixed dentures: All-on-4 or All-on-6 systems provide a permanent, non-removable prosthetic solution.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic acrylic dentures start from $400. However, most Australian patients choose monolithic zirconia full-arch prostheses. These cost significantly less than the $2,900 Australian average and last longer. Clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center provide these using premium Ivoclar Vivadent materials.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report feeling reassured by professional staff who support them through every stage. They often mention quick procedures and no post-surgery infections. For example, some had two implants fitted in 40 minutes.

What is the typical timeframe required to get dentures in Thailand?

Getting dentures in Thailand typically requires 7 to 14 days for standard cases. Simple removable options may take only 3 to 5 business days for lab fabrication. Complex cases involving extractions or implant-supported dentures usually require a staged approach over several weeks or months.

  • Standard lab time: Fabrication usually takes 3 to 5 business days in Bangkok.
  • Initial visits: Expect 2 to 3 appointments for impressions and wax try-ins.
  • Adjustment buffer: Patients should allow 2 to 3 extra days for final tweaks.
  • Healing period: Gums require roughly 3 months of healing after extractions before final fitting.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic dentures are fast, high-volume clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center provide JCI-accredited care. These clinics often have on-site labs. This can reduce the wait for adjustments from days to hours. Confirm if your clinic uses digital scanning, as this speeds up the impression process compared to traditional moulds.

Patient Consensus: Visitors to Thailand often report that straightforward cases finish within 10 days. They recommend building in buffer days for minor adjustments. This helps make the final fit comfortable for the flight home.
