What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Plastic of gingival recession in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Are the dental specialists in Thailand qualified for periodontal plastic surgery?

Thai dental specialists are highly qualified for periodontal plastic surgery. Most hold a six-year Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. This is followed by three-year specialist residency training. Leading clinicians often maintain international fellowships and certifications from institutions in Australia, Europe, or the United States.

  • Board certification: Practitioners hold diplomas from The Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Thailand.
  • Clinical training: Surgeons like Dr Akarapat Rattananon complete soft tissue surgery training.
  • Hospital standards: Facilities like Bumrungrad International Hospital maintain JCI and GHA accreditations.
  • Specialist focus: Periodontists specialise in gum health and intricate mucogingival contouring procedures.
  • Global recognition: Thailand is a leading dental hub with 150+ clinics serving international patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai dental qualifications align closely with Australian standards. Many specialists undergo training through the Thai Board of Periodontology. For gum recession surgery, look for clinicians who partner with global brands like Dentsply Sirona. These partnerships mean they use the same high-grade surgical materials found in premium Australian practices.

Patient Consensus: Patients suggest confirming the specialist is a registered periodontist rather than a general dentist. They recommend viewing before-and-after results for similar gum recession cases in Thailand. Confirming follow-up care plans before returning home is also a common tip.

Can a gum graft completely reverse my gum recession permanently in Thailand?

Gum grafting in Thailand provides a successful and permanent way to cover exposed roots. This procedure also strengthens the gumline. While results last, permanence depends on correcting habits like aggressive brushing or teeth grinding. Surgeons in Thailand maintain success rates exceeding 90% for stabilising gum recession.

  • Proven results: Gingival grafting stops recession progression with a success rate over 90%.
  • Specialised techniques: Connective tissue or free gingival grafts increase soft tissue stability.
  • Certified facilities: Hospitals like Bumrungrad International hold Joint Commission International accreditation.
  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Akarapat Rattananon specialise in soft tissue surgery.
  • Significant savings: Procedure costs range from $900 to $1,600.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows specialised centres often use equipment from global brands like Dentsply Sirona. These clinics serve hundreds of international dental patients annually. Choosing a clinic with high international volume helps staff understand the follow-up needs of Australians.

Patient Consensus: Patients should expect stability and reduced tooth sensitivity rather than guaranteed total cosmetic coverage. It is vital to fix brushing techniques and dental bites to keep results permanent.

What surgical techniques are used in Thailand to treat receding gums?

Dental specialists in Thailand treat receding gums using periodontal plastic surgeries. These procedures focus on root coverage and tissue thickening. JCI-accredited facilities in Bangkok and Phuket employ grafting methods and minimally invasive techniques. These include the Pinhole Surgical Technique and laser-assisted therapies to restore gum health and aesthetics.

  • Traditional grafting: Surgeons use connective tissue or free gingival grafts from the palate.
  • Pinhole technique: Periodontists move existing tissue through tiny holes to cover exposed roots.
  • Laser-assisted surgery: Specialists use dental lasers to remove bacteria and stimulate tissue reattachment.
  • Regenerative therapies: Clinics apply platelet-rich plasma to speed up healing and tissue integration.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai dental centres offer high value for complex cases requiring multiple grafts. While a single gum surgery costs from $300, full-mouth plastic of gingival recession averages $900 to $1,600. This is roughly 41% less than the $2,200 average in Australia.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand found that specialists focus on the cause of recession before suggesting surgery. They appreciated clear explanations about whether the goal was tissue thickening or aesthetic root coverage.

What is the recovery timeline for gum recession surgery, and how long should I stay in Thailand?

Initial healing takes 7 to 14 days. Full tissue maturation usually occurs within 3 to 6 months. Patients should stay in Thailand for 10 to 14 days. This allows for graft stabilisation and suture removal by a specialist before flying home.

  • Immediate healing: Peak swelling and discomfort typically occur during the first 48 to 72 hours.
  • Initial integration: New blood vessels form within the graft during the first 7 days.
  • Suture removal: Surgeons at clinics like Bumrungrad International Hospital typically remove stitches after 10 days.
  • Cabin pressure: Waiting 10+ days prevents cabin pressure from disrupting blood clots or causing pain.
  • Full maturation: Deep tissue remodelling continues for up to 6 months after the surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand is a major hub for this procedure, with 150+ clinics serving international patients. Specialists like Dr Akarapat Rattananon at SOL Dental Clinic often use matrices from brands like Neodent or Osstem. This can sometimes reduce the need for harvesting tissue from the palate. This simplifies the recovery process.

Patient Consensus: Expect the first 3 days to be the most tender with significant swelling. Gentle hygiene and soft foods are essential for 2 weeks in Thailand to help the graft survive.

Which cities and clinics in Thailand are best for gum recession surgery?

Bangkok and Phuket are the main hubs for gum recession surgery in Thailand. Costs range between $900 and $1,600. Patients should choose clinics with board-certified periodontists at JCI-accredited facilities. Examples include Bumrungrad International Hospital or specialised centres like Bangkok International Dental Center (BIDC).

  • Specialised providers: Bangkok centres like SOL Dental Clinic employ surgeons like Dr Akarapat Rattananon. He specialises in soft tissue surgery.
  • Accreditation standards: Bumrungrad International Hospital holds JCI and Global Healthcare Accreditation. This maintains high safety standards for international patients.
  • Recovery timeline: Plan for a 7 to 14-day stay for surgery and follow-up checks.
  • Specialist focus: Prioritise clinics with periodontists who have documented experience in gingival grafting. Avoid using general dentists for this.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bangkok has the highest density of JCI-accredited hospitals. However, specialised clinics like SOL Dental Clinic partner with manufacturers like Dentsply Sirona. These partnerships often give patients access to soft tissue technologies at competitive rates.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend requesting a written aftercare plan for their Australian GP. Most advise choosing a clinic near your accommodation to make follow-ups easier.
