the care provided by the surgeon and the staff was impeccable
My one-off operation went very well and the care provided by the surgeon and the staff was impeccable, apart from a few minor language issues. However, you should be prepared for a few additional costs that were not included in the original price: we had to pay for the transfers between the hotel and the clinic ourselves, and the wound care supplies were insufficient, which amounted to a mid-double-digit sum in total. My most important tip for future patients would be to make absolutely sure you clarify any dietary requirements (vegetarian/halal/...) with the clinic before you arrive.
The coordination team is very dedicated and always available. The staff are consistently very friendly and go out of their way to help. A very comprehensive package with extensive, thorough preliminary examinations and no hidden costs. A superbly equipped single room, including a sofa bed for an accompanying person.
Contrary to what was advertised, there was no interpreter. The nursing staff, in particular, did not always have a good enough command of English to explain everything clearly and in detail. The consultation with the surgeon was less detailed than expected. It wasn’t always entirely clear which services were included in the package and which weren’t (particularly transfers) – but there were no major hidden costs. Hospital food/light meals after operations are always a challenge, and perhaps even more so in a different cultural context – I wasn’t asked about any specific dietary preferences, so anyone who absolutely needs vegetarian, vegan, kosher or halal food should definitely clarify this in advance; in my opinion, the hospital bed was very hard, which is significantly more uncomfortable when you can’t move around much

Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected
Seeing the surgical site for the first time was the moment everything finally felt real. Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected. We used the penile inversion technique, and while the results look promising, the recovery requires a lot of patience and steady commitment to the healing process. My biggest challenge at this stage is definitely the physical discomfort of being seated for a long time. It is a process. The clinic staff has been very attentive during my stay, and I am expecting to have the catheter removed very soon. To anyone else preparing for this surgery, it’s not easy but it is a good experience overall.

The initial appearance is honestly better than expected, even with all the healing that’s still to come
The initial appearance is honestly better than expected, even with all the healing that’s still to come. Seeing that was a huge relief. The surgeon and staff provided great support, making me feel secure from the start. Recovery is no joke. It was a positive step when the catheter was removed, but managing the dilation sessions has been very challenging. My biggest concern is the swelling, and I'm focused on trusting the process. The care and the surgical foundation are solid, which is why I'm rating everything positively.
Everything was perfect. The staff were kind, professional, and very supportive throughout the whole process. The doctor explained everything clearly and made me feel comfortable and cared for. The clinic was clean, organized, and exceeded my expectations. I’m very happy with my experience and grateful for the excellent care I received.
Nothing to complain about. Everything went smoothly and I was satisfied with the overall experience.

My biggest worry going into this was the quality of post-operative care, and that's where things fell short. While the surgeon's work was professional, the support from the clinic staff felt disorganized and was a source of stress during a vulnerable time. The clinic itself could also be improved. It’s a very mixed feeling. I can’t judge the aesthetic outcome yet because everything is still far too swollen to see clearly. On a positive note, getting the catheter removed was a definite relief and a good milestone. The medical part was handled, but the care aspect was lacking.
Language was a problem. Food was horrible, no attempt to take into account cultural differences. Had to wait over an hour for scheduled appointments. Minimal care by all. I would not recommend Wansiri Hospital to any of my friends. Staff would not reach out to my wife, when requested, to resolve problems.

I can honestly say the initial appearance is better than expected
My biggest worry was what the final result would look like. I can honestly say the initial appearance is better than expected. The surgeon used the penile inversion technique, and both the surgeon and the staff have been excellent. Recovery is, of course, a challenge. The catheter is manageable with proper care, and I am following the dilation schedule as instructed, but sitting for long periods is currently very difficult. It’s a real process. For anyone else getting ready for this, my advice is to be calm ☺️ and be happy for the wonderful physical change coming your way!

I wholeheartedly recommend Wansiri Hospital
The hospital is great. I have been looked after since the moment I arrived. The medical outcome is superb. The nurses were very kind and attentive. The only suggestion I would have is to pay in advance as foreign bank transfers can be tricky. I wholeheartedly recommend Wansiri Hospital
Nurses and translator were so kind. The doctor was wonderful
Everything was absolutely great!

FAQ about Bottom surgery in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How many weeks do I need to remain in Thailand for safe healing and follow-ups after bottom surgery?

Patients should remain in Thailand for 3 to 4 weeks for safe healing after bottom surgery. Most packages cover the first 14 to 21 days. However, staying up to 6 weeks helps with wound care and dilation before the long-haul flight home.

  • Clinical stay: Surgeons typically require 5 to 7 nights of inpatient monitoring following the procedure.
  • Hotel recovery: Packages often include 14 to 17 nights in local 4-star accommodation for observation.
  • Flying window: Most patients are cleared for travel after a final check-up around day 21.
  • Work resumption: Many patients feel well enough to return to desk work from week 6.

Bookimed Expert Insight: All-inclusive packages at centres like Wansiri Hospital or Asia Cosmetic Hospital bundle 14 to 21 nights of accommodation. This duration helps patients stay in Bangkok during the high-risk period for minor wound separations.

Patient Consensus: The first month in Thailand is physically demanding and requires help with basic tasks. Patients suggest staying 6 weeks if possible to ensure stability before the flight home.

What surgical methods are available for male-to-female (MTF) bottom surgery in Thailand?

Thailand offers several surgical methods for male-to-female bottom surgery. These include penile inversion, non-penile inversion, and laparoscopic sigmoid colon vaginoplasty. Experienced surgeons at JCI-accredited facilities like Wansiri Hospital and Asia Cosmetic Hospital specialise in these techniques. They create a functional vaginal canal with natural aesthetics.

  • Penile inversion: Uses existing penile and scrotal skin to form the vaginal lining.
  • Scrotal skin graft: Uses scrotal tissue to achieve greater depth in the canal.
  • Laparoscopic colon vaginoplasty: Uses a bowel segment for a self-lubricating vaginal canal.
  • Non-penile inversion: Uses tunica vaginalis tissue, a technique refined by Thai specialists.
  • Hybrid techniques: Combines penile inversion with skin grafts for optimal sensation and healing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand’s leading centres operate at a large scale. Wansiri Hospital serves 2,000+ patients annually. Data shows that "all-inclusive" packages often include 14–21 nights of accommodation. This long recovery stay is vital for managing initial dilation and wound care before flying home.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report that choosing scrotal grafts or colon techniques affects long-term lubrication. It also impacts their dilation needs. Many found that having interpreters and airport transfers included made the complex logistics much easier to manage.

Do Thai hospitals provide all-inclusive care for bottom surgery?

Thai hospitals provide extensive care for bottom surgery designed for international patients. Major Bangkok facilities like Wansiri Hospital and Asia Cosmetic Hospital offer bundles for surgery and anaesthesia. These typically include 5–7 inpatient nights and hotel recovery periods of 14–21 nights.

  • Hospital inclusion: Packages usually cover 5–7 days of inpatient nursing and medical supplies.
  • Hotel stay: All-inclusive options often bundle 14–21 nights in 4-star hotels for recovery.
  • Logistical support: Language assistance and VIP airport-to-clinic transfers are standard in premium packages.
  • Technique variety: Bundles cover scrotal skin grafts or laparoscopic sigmoid colon vaginoplasty.
  • Medical testing: Pre-operative blood tests, chest X-rays, and cardiologist consultations are typically included.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many clinics claim all-inclusive status, the value lies in "full board" recovery. At Wansiri Hospital, some packages include all meals during hospital and hotel stays. This helps Australian patients who may find navigating food logistics difficult during early recovery.

Patient Consensus: Patients find Thai packages reliably cover surgery, medications, and nursing. Many advise budgeting extra for flights and food outside hospital walls. Confirming inclusions for extended stays upfront helps avoid unexpected costs while in Thailand.

Where should I look for qualified and experienced medical professionals for bottom surgery in Thailand?

Look for qualified bottom surgery professionals at internationally accredited Bangkok facilities like Asia Cosmetic Hospital and Wansiri Hospital. These centres feature surgeons with thousands of procedures and certifications from the American Board or the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand. This helps maintain high safety standards for Australian patients.

  • Accredited facilities: Asia Cosmetic Hospital holds Joint Commission International (JCI) and ISO certifications for safety.
  • Experienced specialists: Dr Pichet Rodchareon at Bangkok Plastic Surgery has performed 3,000+ aesthetic procedures.
  • Surgical expertise: Dr Saran Wannachamras at Wansiri Hospital leads specialised departments for sex reassignment.
  • Surgical techniques: Clinics offer sigmoid colon laparoscopic vaginoplasty and scrotal skin graft techniques.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Bangkok clinics often bundle extended recovery into all-inclusive packages. Wansiri Hospital provides 5–7 days of hospitalisation followed by 14–17 nights in a hotel. This long-term monitoring is vital for detecting early complications before the flight back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Request detailed results and before-and-after photos early in your search. Thai clinics often include nursing support, hotel recovery, and multiple follow-up visits as standard inclusions.
