Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected
Seeing the surgical site for the first time was the moment everything finally felt real. Even at just 15 days post-op, the initial aspect is already better than expected. We used the penile inversion technique, and while the results look promising, the recovery requires a lot of patience and steady commitment to the healing process. My biggest challenge at this stage is definitely the physical discomfort of being seated for a long time. It is a process. The clinic staff has been very attentive during my stay, and I am expecting to have the catheter removed very soon. To anyone else preparing for this surgery, it’s not easy but it is a good experience overall.

The initial appearance is honestly better than expected, even with all the healing that’s still to come
The initial appearance is honestly better than expected, even with all the healing that’s still to come. Seeing that was a huge relief. The surgeon and staff provided great support, making me feel secure from the start. Recovery is no joke. It was a positive step when the catheter was removed, but managing the dilation sessions has been very challenging. My biggest concern is the swelling, and I'm focused on trusting the process. The care and the surgical foundation are solid, which is why I'm rating everything positively.
Everything was perfect. The staff were kind, professional, and very supportive throughout the whole process. The doctor explained everything clearly and made me feel comfortable and cared for. The clinic was clean, organized, and exceeded my expectations. I’m very happy with my experience and grateful for the excellent care I received.
Nothing to complain about. Everything went smoothly and I was satisfied with the overall experience.

My biggest worry going into this was the quality of post-operative care, and that's where things fell short. While the surgeon's work was professional, the support from the clinic staff felt disorganized and was a source of stress during a vulnerable time. The clinic itself could also be improved. It’s a very mixed feeling. I can’t judge the aesthetic outcome yet because everything is still far too swollen to see clearly. On a positive note, getting the catheter removed was a definite relief and a good milestone. The medical part was handled, but the care aspect was lacking.
Language was a problem. Food was horrible, no attempt to take into account cultural differences. Had to wait over an hour for scheduled appointments. Minimal care by all. I would not recommend Wansiri Hospital to any of my friends. Staff would not reach out to my wife, when requested, to resolve problems.

I can honestly say the initial appearance is better than expected
My biggest worry was what the final result would look like. I can honestly say the initial appearance is better than expected. The surgeon used the penile inversion technique, and both the surgeon and the staff have been excellent. Recovery is, of course, a challenge. The catheter is manageable with proper care, and I am following the dilation schedule as instructed, but sitting for long periods is currently very difficult. It’s a real process. For anyone else getting ready for this, my advice is to be calm ☺️ and be happy for the wonderful physical change coming your way!

I wholeheartedly recommend Wansiri Hospital
The hospital is great. I have been looked after since the moment I arrived. The medical outcome is superb. The nurses were very kind and attentive. The only suggestion I would have is to pay in advance as foreign bank transfers can be tricky. I wholeheartedly recommend Wansiri Hospital
Nurses and translator were so kind. The doctor was wonderful
Everything was absolutely great!

FAQ about Body Masculinization Surgery in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What procedures are included in Body Masculinization Surgery (FTM) in Thailand?

Body Masculinisation Surgery (FTM) in Thailand includes double-incision top surgery with free nipple grafts, liposuction of abdomen, hips, buttocks, and thighs, and torso skin removal up to 3 inches to tighten skin after fat removal. These create a masculine chest and torso shape.

  • Top surgery: double-incision method with free nipple grafts to flatten the chest.
  • Liposuction: removes female fat patterns on abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks.
  • Torso skin removal: tightens skin up to 3 inches after liposuction and chest contouring.
  • Anaesthesia: general anaesthesia is used for all procedures.
  • Recovery: plan for 2 weeks post-op stay in Bangkok; lumps may form and fade over 6–12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thailand clinics often combine chest masculinisation and body contouring in one surgery, which speeds recovery. Bangkok facilities like Wansiri Hospital serve thousands yearly with near-perfect success rates. Many patients also need psychological approval and hormone pauses, so timing surgeries well is key.

Patient Consensus: Patients appreciate Thai surgeons’ skill with double-incision chest surgery and detailed body contouring. Recovery can be tough but thorough aftercare and longer stays make the process smoother. Brisbane patients find Bangkok’s clinic accessibility convenient and staff professional.

What are the common Top Surgery techniques used in Thailand for FTM surgery?

Common top surgery techniques for FTM in Thailand include Double Incision with Free Nipple Grafts, Periareolar, and Keyhole. Double Incision suits moderate to large chests, Periareolar fits smaller chests with good skin elasticity, and Keyhole works for very small breasts with minimal tissue.

  • Double Incision: most recommended, removes breast tissue and repositions nipples as grafts.
  • Periareolar technique: less invasive, ideal for small chests, minimal scarring.
  • Keyhole (liposuction-assisted): for minimal breast tissue, less masculine contour than DI.
  • Recovery: patients stay around 2 weeks in Bangkok for hospital and follow-up checks.
  • Surgeon experience: Dr Phatcharasak performs 20,000+ plastic surgeries in Bangkok.

Bookimed Expert Insight: The dominant choice in Thailand is Double Incision surgery, but it’s vital to request masculine sculpting explicitly. Clinics in Bangkok offer thorough 2-week post-op stays to support healing and final contouring. Periareolar is a budget-friendly option for small chests, while Keyhole suits minimal cases but may sacrifice chest shape.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand say Double Incision surgery with free nipple grafts reliably achieves a flat, masculine chest. Recovery periods with hospital and nearby accommodation stays are standard and support smooth healing. English-speaking coordinators ease any language issues during care.

Two medical letters are essential: a gender dysphoria diagnosis and testosterone treatment confirmation. Many surgeons expect 6–12 months of hormone therapy before surgery.

  • Age requirement: 18+ with parental consent if under 20 years old.
  • Medical letters: diagnosis from psychologist plus hormone therapy confirmation.
  • Hormone therapy: usually 6–12 months continuous testosterone before surgery.
  • Surgeon selection: choose those linked to Royal Thai College of Plastic Surgeons.
  • Recovery planning: book at least 14 days post-op in Thailand before return flights.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Most Australians prefer Bangkok clinics like Wansiri Hospital and Asia Cosmetic Hospital for body masculinisation. Clinics with Royal College accreditation or Joint Commission International (JCI) approval provide greater trust. Planning a two-week stay covers surgery and early recovery, which Australians find crucial due to follow-up needs and Medicare limitations back home.

Patient Consensus: Australians in Thailand highlight the need for clear surgeon credentials and appreciate English-speaking staff. Spending two weeks in Bangkok for surgery plus follow-up gives peace of mind. Patients strongly advise securing all medical letters beforehand and budgeting for unexpected delays.

What is the recovery time and process like for Top Surgery in Thailand for FTM patients?

Recovery after FTM top surgery in Thailand involves a one-night hospital stay and around 4 to 5 weeks before flying home. Patients usually remain in Bangkok for two weeks to manage drain removal, healing, and follow-up. Full physical activity gradually returns after 4–6 weeks.

  • Hospital stay: One night in hospital after surgery for initial recovery.
  • Drain management: Drains typically removed around one to two weeks post-op.
  • Compression garment: Binders must be alternated and regularly washed.
  • Activity restrictions: Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity for 4–6 weeks.
  • Follow-up care: No local follow-up in Australia; private or return visits needed if complications arise.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Most clinics in Bangkok, including those with JCI and Royal College accreditations, recommend a 10–14 day stay for close monitoring. Patients staying in recovery accommodation find it easier to manage early care, especially drain removal. Dr Phatcharasak Kraisornphongsakul, with 20,000+ cosmetic procedures, highlights minimal pain but important post-op binder care.

Patient Consensus: Patients say the first day is toughest with discomfort and numbness. Most report little pain after initial days, handled well with light movement. They recommend front-zip clothing and wet wipes for hygiene before drain removal. Staying in Bangkok for two weeks helps ease recovery with local support.
