What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it
What would I say to a friend who’s hesitating? Just go for it. My biggest fear was not understanding the treatment plan or feeling rushed, but that wasn’t the case at all. The dentist was very patient and took the time to explain each step to me in detail. It was reassuring. The overall organisation ran smoothly and the whole clinic team were professional and happy to answer my questions. Coordination via Bookimed simplified the whole process, which helped reduce the stress of having a medical appointment abroad. I left with clear information and a good overall impression.

I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism
Hello everyone, like many other people before an operation, I wasn't feeling very well. The staff at the clinic immediately reassured and accompanied me. Believe me or not, I didn't feel a thing. The dental surgeon fitted the 2 implants in 40 minutes, and I had no infections whatsoever. My Bookimed advisor (Péguy) was with me from the start and is still with me today. I would like to thank BIDC and also Bookimed for their professionalism. Sylvain B.

The wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care
It is a clean hospital and the wisdom teeth extraction was done so fast with utmost care. The dentist and dental personnel can speak fluent English which is important for most people like I. For wisdom teeth extraction the cost was 20000 baht for 4 teeth( including medication and nurse charge), but it all depends if the teeth has impacted. I would highly recommend the clinic.

FAQ about Apically repositioned flap in Thailand

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the health risks and recovery considerations for an apically repositioned flap procedure in Thailand?

Apically repositioned flap surgery in Thailand carries risks like post-operative infection, flap displacement, and tissue necrosis. Success depends on precise surgical technique within accredited clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center. Recovery involves a 7 to 14 day stay for suture removal and strict oral hygiene.

  • Infection control: Risks increase with smoking or poor oral hygiene after surgery.
  • Flap displacement: Muscle pull in the lower jaw can move the repositioned tissue.
  • Tissue necrosis: Thinning the flap too much during surgery may cause tissue death.
  • Suture removal: Patients must stay in Thailand for 7–14 days for specialist follow-up.

Bookimed Expert Insight: JCI-accredited clinics in Bangkok serve up to 15,000 patients annually and often use Straumann materials. This high volume means surgeons have handled complex mandibular cases with higher displacement risks. Choosing these established centres allows access to specialists trained in both Thailand and the USA.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand report that facial swelling and tenderness typically peak within 72 hours. Success requires avoiding nicotine and sticking to soft foods while following strict instructions on site protection.

What is an apically repositioned flap procedure in Thailand and what are its benefits?

An apically repositioned flap in Thailand is a periodontal surgery. Specialists move gum tissue towards the tooth root to improve health. This procedure increases the protective pink gum layer and corrects recession. Use it to expose impacted teeth for braces or implants at JCI-accredited clinics.

  • Increased keratinised tissue: Builds a thick, healthy gum cuff around teeth and dental implants.
  • Recession correction: Protects exposed roots to reduce long-term sensitivity and risk of decay.
  • Pocket reduction: Lowers gum depth to make daily cleaning and professional maintenance easier.
  • Impacted tooth exposure: Preserves natural gum tissue while allowing orthodontic access to trapped canines.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Thai clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center serve 15,000+ patients annually. They maintain high volumes for complex periodontal work. Data shows patients often combine this surgery with implants. This saves up to 65% compared to $1,700 Australian averages.

Patient Consensus: Expect temporary tooth sensitivity after the procedure as the new gum line settles. Patients in Thailand recommend choosing a periodontist for repositioning. This helps to secure precise results and a clear recovery plan.

How do I select a reputable specialist for an apically repositioned flap procedure in Thailand?

Select a reputable Thai specialist by confirming board certification in periodontics. Verify international credentials from bodies like the American Board of Prosthodontics. Prioritise clinics with JCI or ISO 9001 certifications, such as Bangkok International Dental Center. This helps confirm they follow global safety and hygiene protocols.

  • Specialist certification: Check the surgeon holds Thai Board of Periodontology certification rather than just general dentistry.
  • Clinical accreditation: Select facilities with JCI or ISO 9001 standards for validated surgical safety.
  • Educational background: Look for specialists trained at Mahidol University or with international fellowships in the USA.
  • Specific expertise: Choose doctors focusing on gum surgeries like pocket reduction rather than general cosmetic work.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data shows a clear distinction between high-volume general clinics and specialised surgical centres. Bangkok International Dental Center serves 15,000+ patients annually with JCI backing. Smaller centres like Kitcha Dental Clinic in Chiang Mai maintain decades of clinical history. For complex flap procedures, choose a facility that partners with global manufacturers like Straumann. This ensures the use of original, high-grade surgical materials.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand recommend choosing specialists who provide written treatment plans. They also suggest looking for clear instructions for suture care. Experiences suggest focusing on long-term healing and consistent aftercare rather than immediate cosmetic impressions or package prices.

Is an apically repositioned flap procedure in Thailand more complex for the upper or lower jaw?

Lower jaw procedures are typically more complex than upper jaw surgeries in Thailand. The mandible has limited attached gingiva and highly mobile tissues. This makes securing the flap difficult. Muscle pull from the lips often increases the risk of the flap shifting during healing.

  • Tissue mobility: Mandibular alveolar mucosa moves easily compared to the stable tissue found in the maxilla.
  • Attachment zone: Lower jaws often have thinner mucosa and a narrow zone of attached gingiva.
  • Vascularisation: Upper jaw tissue is thicker and better-perfused. This facilitates faster healing and easier fixation.
  • Surgical risks: Mandibular cases face higher risks of suture dehiscence where the surgical wound opens.

Bookimed Expert Insight: The lower jaw is anatomically complex. However, Thai clinics like Bangkok International Dental Center perform 15,000+ procedures annually. High-volume centres often bundle bone reshaping with flap surgery. This combined approach is frequently more efficient than separate treatments for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Thailand found cases involving front teeth or multiple adjacent teeth were the most involved. They recommend confirming if bone reshaping is required as this adds to the surgical scope.

Why do patients frequently travel to Thailand for an apically repositioned flap?

Patients choose Thailand for apically repositioned flaps to access specialist gum surgery at lower costs than in Australia. Leading clinics in Bangkok and Chiang Mai provide accredited care. They use modern dental technologies and US-trained specialists to treat thousands of international patients annually.

  • Cost savings: Procedures cost from $400 to $800, saving patients up to 63% over Australia.
  • Accredited facilities: Bangkok International Dental Center holds JCI and ISO certifications for rigorous safety standards.
  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Pawak Tungthangthum at Kitcha Dental Clinic maintain US-based clinical training.
  • Efficient scheduling: Private clinics offer faster appointment times than many public dental systems in Australia.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many choose Bangkok for its 15,000+ patient volume. However, Chiang Mai clinics like Kitcha Dental Clinic offer 30+ years of experience. This makes Thailand unique as patients can select urban hubs or established regional centres without sacrificing quality.

Patient Consensus: Many travellers combine this periodontal treatment with a holiday to save on total costs. Patients often suggest arranging local follow-up care in Australia before departing. This helps to reach a smooth recovery after returning from Thailand.
