"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

"The results were unbelievably positive!"
The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

Our Lung cancer surgery Techniques: What Suits You Best?

When considering Lung cancer surgery, it’s important to understand the different techniques and which is best suited for you. Here’s a concise comparison of popular options:

Lobectomy

Lobectomy is a surgical procedure that removes one lobe of the lung to treat lung cancer or other lung diseases.

Pros: Lobectomy is less invasive than pneumonectomy and preserves more lung function. It has a high success rate of around 85% for early-stage lung cancer.
Cons: It may not be suitable for patients with widespread lung damage or tumors in multiple lobes. Recovery can be longer compared to wedge resection.
Effectiveness: 85%
Duration: 2-4 hours
Recovery: 4-6 weeks
Best for: Early-stage lung cancer, localized tumors, and non-small cell lung cancer in patients.
Prices: Cost of Lobectomy in Republic of Korea from AUD $22,046

Lung segmentectomy

A pulmonary surgery that involves removing a specific segment of the lung affected by disease, often used to treat localized lung cancer.

Pros: Preserves more lung function compared to lobectomy. Less invasive than pneumonectomy, with fewer complications. Allows for targeted tumor excision, minimizing healthy tissue removal.
Cons: May not be suitable for large or multiple tumors. Slightly higher recurrence risk compared to lobectomy at 10%.
Effectiveness: Success rate is approximately 85-90% for early-stage lung cancer.
Duration: 2-3 hours
Recovery: 2-4 weeks
Best for: Patients with small, localized tumors, especially in early-stage lung cancer.
Prices: Cost of Lung segmentectomy in Republic of Korea from AUD $21,626

Wedge Resection

A surgical procedure that removes a small, wedge-shaped part of the lung containing a tumor or abnormal tissue.

Pros: Less invasive than lobectomy or pneumonectomy, preserving more lung function. Typically results in a shorter hospital stay, with only 1-3 days required.
Cons: Higher recurrence rates compared to lobectomy, with approximately 10% more cases. Not suitable for larger tumors or those near major blood vessels.
Effectiveness: 95% success rate in removing small, localized tumors.
Duration: 1-2 hours
Recovery: 1-2 weeks
Best for: Small, early-stage lung tumors, particularly in patients with limited lung function.

FAQ about Lung cancer surgery in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What techniques are used for lung cancer surgery in Republic of Korea?

Surgeons in South Korea perform nearly 95% of lung cancer surgeries using minimally invasive techniques. These include Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) and Robotic-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (RATS). Major centres like Samsung Medical Center and Asan Medical Center specialise in lung-sparing segmentectomies and complex lobectomies. These techniques support faster recovery.

  • Thoracoscopic surgery: Minimally invasive VATS involves small incisions and a camera for lung resections.
  • Robotic surgery: Specialists use Da Vinci systems at Severance Hospital for high-precision tumour removal.
  • Lung segmentectomy: Sparing healthy tissue by removing only the affected segment of a lobe.
  • Lobectomy: Removing an entire lung lobe remains the standard surgical approach for cancer.

Bookimed Expert Insight: South Korea is a global leader in surgical volume. Asan Medical Center alone performs over 65,000 operations annually. Surgeons at Samsung Medical Center handle almost every lung cancer variation due to the immense caseload. Dr Choi Yong Soo is one example. This leads to more refined techniques.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Republic of Korea appreciate the aesthetic results from small incisions. They also value the speed of modern diagnostic systems. Many noted the quick organisation of consultations and scans at major university centres.
