"I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people
I have breast cancer and I went through chemotherapy in Moscow. Six sessions have passed. It was very difficult to tolerate these procedures. A doctor in Kazakhstan said that this is enough, it is necessary to switch to tableted chemistry. And Moscow offered to continue doing chemotherapy. Opinions are divided. It was necessary to find a third party. I accidentally found your site on the Internet. Ekaterina Koliko wrote very quickly. The benevolence of Katyusha was immediately arranged towards her. She asked me what I would like to go to. I said that I want to go to the Severance clinic in Korea. Katyusha approved my choice. I sent all the necessary documents and Katyusha quickly redirected everything to the clinic. They began to wait for the invitation. For some reason (and for what I already knew in the clinic), there was no invitation. I am very grateful to Katyusha that she was in touch all the time, supported me, gave me hope. We arrived in Seoul in the morning, we were met by a transfer, brought to the hotel. After lunch, they were already in the clinic, I began to take tests. Constantly with me was one of the translators. Girls translators are great fellows, these are Lida, Olesya, Sofia, Tatyana, Alena. Any question could be addressed, they always prompted. They are professionals. Always with a smile, polite, with enormous patience, and most importantly, they understand that they work with a special audience, with people who did not come to rest. Someone to find out the diagnosis, and someone to do the operation. Thank you so much to the girls. The clinic was impressive. Doctors are professionals. The equipment is super. I got the opinion of a third party, it coincided with the opinion of a doctor from Kazakhstan. I was prescribed a prescription, I bought medicines at the pharmacy and started drinking on arrival home. I also want to write about Darina, who was engaged in transfer (the transfer to the clinic was very convenient and met and carried out), the selection of the hotel was also always in touch, and if I had any questions, she quickly answered them. I want to say that I am very happy for getting to know BOOKIMED, professionals really work there, and most importantly, they are not indifferent people. I am grateful to the Almighty and all who were near me. And the words of the doctor gave me inspiration and inspired great hope, for the sake of these words it was worth a long way to go. Once again, many thanks to all.

My recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable
Good day! I would like to share my impressions of being in the clinic. Thanks to the coordinators, the staff of the international clinic center, all wishes were taken into account. Special thanks to the attending physician, the procedure was perfect, the staff is very attentive, courteous. They are located in a 5-bed room, but at the same time there is no discomfort, food can be chosen taking into account personal taste preferences (Korean, European cuisine) and at the same time satisfying and varied. I can say one thing, there is no limit to my gratitude, my recommendations to friends, acquaintances only this Clinic! The prices are reasonable.

"The results were unbelievably positive!"
The staff is nice, but everything is on stream, as it does not take my problem seriously, as much as I would like! After my husband insistently said that it would be necessary to do so, so this, then after that we were heard.

FAQ about Hormone therapy in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

Is gender-affirming hormone therapy covered by the Korean National Health Insurance (NHI)?

Gender-affirming hormone therapy is covered by the Korean National Health Insurance (NHI) for individuals living in South Korea. While historically viewed as a self-pay service, patients now access medication at reduced rates. Major centres like Na-Eun Hospital and Severance Hospital provide these endocrine services. They follow national health guidelines.

  • Insurance coverage: National health insurance significantly reduces out-of-pocket costs for hormone prescriptions.
  • Medication options: Jenasteron remains a common, affordable choice administered every three months.
  • Clinical requirements: Practitioners often provide treatment based on previous injection dates without requiring psychologists.
  • Self-administration: Patients may choose home injections using supplies purchased separately from local retailers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: A notable pattern in Seoul is the efficiency of women's health specialists for hormone therapy. General endocrinologists at large centres like Asan Medical Center handle high volumes. In contrast, a women's health specialist often has much shorter wait times for regular injections.

Patient Consensus: The process is surprisingly straightforward in South Korea since a formal diagnosis certificate is not always requested. Clinical staff generally focus on the patient's injection schedule. Personal documentation should match the patient's gender identity so that the insurance application proceeds smoothly.

What types of hormone therapy are available in Korea?

Hormone therapy in Korea includes specialised treatments for menopause, gender affirmation, and androgen deficiency. Patients access various delivery methods such as intramuscular injections, nasal gels, and oral tablets. Clinics like Severance Hospital and Samsung Medical Center offer these therapies within facilities accredited by JCI and KOIHA.

  • Delivery methods include intramuscular injections, nasal gels, and oral tablets for various hormonal needs.
  • Menopause support: OB/GYNs prescribe oestrogen-only, combined oestrogen-progestin, or synthetic steroids like Tibolone.
  • Gender-affirming care: Progressive clinics provide Estradiol and Cyproterone without requiring a formal psychological letter.
  • Clinical protocols: Doctors typically administer Jenasteron every 2 weeks or Nebido every 8–12 weeks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Injectable hormones like Nebido are standard. However, many Australian patients prefer the newer 4% testosterone nasal gels available in Seoul. These gels offer a non-invasive alternative to frequent clinic visits. However, all injectable treatments in Korea strictly require professional administration rather than self-injection at home.

Patient Consensus: Patients find the lack of mandatory psychological letters for gender-affirming care makes the process faster. Bringing medical records helps secure tailored plans. However, patients should factor in regular clinic visits for all scheduled injections.

Are English-speaking doctors readily available for hormone therapy in Korea?

English-speaking doctors for hormone therapy are widely available in South Korea. They work at major international hospitals and specialised Seoul clinics. Large centres often feature dedicated international departments with fluent coordinators. Western-trained specialists commonly practise in districts like Gangnam and Itaewon. As a result, consultations for international patients are smooth.

  • International departments: Asan Medical Center provides personal coordinators to assist with English communication.
  • Translation services: Seoul National University Hospital offers 24/7 interpreter services for patients.
  • Diverse specialists: Gangnam Severance Hospital provides free interpreter services for non-Korean speaking patients.
  • Specialised care: Centres like Ewha Womans University Medical Center focus on women's hormonal health.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While small neighbourhood clinics may have language gaps, major university hospitals in Seoul are fully digital and geared for foreigners. Seoul National University Hospital alone treats 30,000 international patients annually. Choosing a large multidisciplinary centre gives patients access to fluent staff and streamlines the process of transferring prescriptions from home.

Patient Consensus: Patients find that bringing records from home simplifies getting refills without needing new psychiatric evaluations. Major Seoul hospitals with English-fluent doctors remain the most reliable choice for consistent access to hormone replacement therapy.

Where are the main medical hubs for hormone therapy in Korea?

Main medical hubs for hormone therapy in the Republic of Korea are concentrated in Seoul and Incheon. Leading JCI-accredited facilities like Severance Hospital and Samsung Medical Center provide multidisciplinary care. These centres specialise in endocrine treatments, fertility support, and oncology-related hormone therapies for international patients.

  • Seoul districts: Gangnam and Seodaemun-gu house major university hospitals for complex endocrine cases.
  • Accredited facilities: Many hubs hold KOIHA and JCI international certifications for patient safety.
  • Cancer centres: Facilities like Samsung Medical Center provide targeted hormone therapy for various cancers.
  • Incheon hub: Gachon University Gil Medical Center offers multidisciplinary services near the international airport.

Bookimed Expert Insight: The price ranges from A$2,800 to A$7,200. This often indicates that Korean hubs bundle comprehensive diagnostics with treatment. Major centres like Asan Medical Center handle vast patient volumes. This high level of activity helps specialists stay highly proficient across diverse hormonal conditions.

Patient Consensus: Confirm if the clinic specialises in your specific needs before booking your travel. Use official health directories to find accredited providers for specialised care in Seoul.
