I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come here, and my flight back to Hawaii was smooth and stress-free
I had an amazing experience with Dr. Park and the entire team! From start to finish, everyone—especially Joanne—was incredibly accommodating and attentive, which made me feel safe and well cared for. Dr. Park did an incredible job on my breast augmentation. Remarkably, after just one day of recovery, I was able to walk around Seoul, use public transport, and see all the sights I wanted to visit. Although it was slightly uncomfortable at times, I never experienced significant pain beyond the first few hours after waking from anesthesia. I truly believe this speaks to Dr. Park’s precision—and maybe a little to my own fast healing! The clinic goes above and beyond for their patients. I received IV therapy, red light therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, all of which made me feel well supported throughout recovery. Dr. Park and the team checked in consistently, which is such a green flag—so different from many experiences in the U.S., where doctors often focus solely on the surgery itself. I couldn’t be happier with my decision to come here, and my flight back to Hawaii was smooth and stress-free. I highly recommend Dr. Park for anyone seeking attentive, professional care and excellent results.

I really appreciated the time my doctor took during the consultation for my forehead and frown lines. He was so thorough, explaining exactly where and why he would inject, and was very honest about what realistic results would look like after showing me photos of previous patients. That gave me a lot of confidence. Now in my early recovery, I'm feeling better than expected. It was a good process. The final price was exactly what I was quoted, with no additional expenses. My only note is that there was little contact from the clinic after my appointment, but overall the service was solid.
I’ve love how medical coordinator took care of everything !

I am still in the early stages of healing, so I am following all the aftercare instructions carefully. FAQ about Aesthetic Medicine and Cosmetology in Republic of Korea

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What are the best treatments for pigmentation and sun spots in South Korea?

South Korea treats pigmentation using Q-switched lasers and skin boosters like L-ebss Lumi to target stubborn melanin. Centres like Forena Clinic combine multi-laser protocols with exosomes to clear sun spots. These methods improve skin tone while maintaining hydration during the recovery phase.

  • Laser combination: Specialist centres combine multiple laser wavelengths to treat different melanin depths safely.
  • Reepot technology: This 532 nm laser specifically targets stubborn brown spots, often in one session.
  • Skin boosters: Injections like L-ebss Lumi provide deep hydration and brighten overall skin tone.
  • Expert care: Board-certified dermatologists like Dr Yeom Jihye at Forena Clinic perform these treatments.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics with high annual volumes often operate their own research labs. Oracle Clinic Cheongdam, which treats 25,000 patients, is one such clinic. This allows them to develop custom protocols for HER2+ related pigmentation or stubborn melasma. Smaller clinics cannot match these. Australians should choose a clinic with in-house diagnostic tools like 3D skin analysis. This ensures the laser intensity is perfectly calibrated for their skin type.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that Pico and CO2 lasers are far more effective than topical creams. This is especially so for age spots. They emphasise that strict SPF50+ use is essential. This prevents spots from returning after Korean dermatology packages.

How can I verify a clinic's reputation in Korea?

Verifying a Korean clinic means checking government credentials and surgeon board certifications. Patients who prioritise safety should look for the Korean Accreditation for Healthcare Facilities for Foreign Patients (KAHF) mark or KOIHA accreditation. These certifications confirm a centre meets strict national standards for international patient care.

  • Accreditation status: Leading centres like VG Plastic Surgery hold KOIHA accreditation for medical safety.
  • Board certification: Confirm surgeons are board-certified by the Korean Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
  • Clinical experience: Doctors like Dr Jung Young Choon at HERSHE Plastic Surgery have 30+ years of experience.
  • Patient volume: High-capacity clinics like Oracle Clinic Cheongdam treat 25,000+ patients annually.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Look for clinics that employ their own on-site anaesthetists rather than part-time contractors. AB Plastic Surgery maintains an anaesthesiology specialist ratio double the industry average. This allows continuous monitoring during surgery and faster responses during recovery. It is a major safety differentiator in Seoul.

Patient Consensus: Patients note it's important to cross-check reviews across different platforms in the Republic of Korea. They suggest visiting several clinics for consultations to compare communication styles. They also recommend making sure the surgeon personally discusses the procedure details, rather than just a coordinator.

Are the results of aesthetic procedures in South Korea permanent, and how do I maintain them?

Aesthetic results in South Korea vary by procedure type. Surgical interventions like rhinoplasty or facial contouring provide permanent structural changes. Non-surgical treatments such as Botox or fillers are temporary. Maintenance requires a mix of professional follow-ups and strict daily skincare to protect skin quality.

  • Surgical longevity: Structural changes like jawline shaping or rhinoplasty offer lifelong, permanent results.
  • Non-surgical duration: Treatments like Botox injections usually last 3–6 months before requiring maintenance.
  • Professional maintenance: Experts like Dr Yeom Jihye have performed 14,000+ procedures for skin rejuvenation.
  • Preservation factors: Daily sunscreen application is essential to prevent pigment return after laser resurfacing.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume clinics in Seoul offer a major safety advantage for long-term results. AB Plastic Surgery maintains an anaesthesiology specialist ratio double the industry average. This focus on safety during permanent structural surgeries reduces the need for revisions later. For non-surgical work, clinics like Forena Clinic use only FDA-approved devices, which gives more predictable and lasting outcomes for international patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that surgical results take 6 months to settle properly. They often combine procedures with IV and hyperbaric oxygen therapy in Seoul to speed up their initial recovery.

Are there clinics in South Korea that cater to international patients with English-speaking staff?

South Korean aesthetic clinics specialise in treating international patients. They provide fluent English-speaking staff and dedicated international centres. Facilities like Forena Clinic and AB Plastic Surgery in Seoul employ multilingual teams. These centres offer interpreters, airport transfers, and 3D-CT diagnostics. This supports foreign patients throughout their treatment.

  • Multilingual support: Clinics like AB Plastic Surgery provide services in 9 languages including English.
  • International centres: Seoul Miz Hospital features a dedicated centre for global patient care.
  • Specialist expertise: Dr Yeom Jihye at Forena Clinic holds American Academy of Dermatology membership.
  • Advanced technology: VG Plastic Surgery uses university-grade safety systems and 3D-CT scanning technology.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume clinics in Seoul often provide better English support than regional centres. Some facilities, such as Oracle Clinic Cheongdam, treat over 25,000 patients annually. These larger clinics typically have established international departments. This infrastructure helps them manage post-treatment follow-up and travel logistics more effectively for Australians.

Patient Consensus: Patients find the translation services in Seoul clinics incredibly helpful. They appreciate how staff like the coordinators manage the entire process. This provides confidence during consultations and early recovery.

What are the most popular aesthetic procedures in Korea?

Double eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty are the most popular aesthetic procedures in South Korea. Clinics specialise in facial contouring to achieve a V-shaped jawline. Non-invasive treatments like skin boosters and Thermage are also highly sought after. They are used for facial rejuvenation and tightening.

  • Upper eyelid surgery: Creates a natural crease using incisional or non-incisional methods.
  • Facial contouring: Reduces jawline or cheekbones to create a slimmer, V-shaped face.
  • Skin rejuvenation: Uses Thermage FLX and Ultherapy for lifting with minimal downtime.
  • Injectable treatments: Includes Botox for masseter reduction and Rejuran for skin hydration.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics with high patient volumes often maintain higher specialist-to-patient ratios. For example, AB Plastic Surgery treats 24,000 people annually. These clinics employ double the industry average of anaesthetists. This volume allows these centres to offer specialised diagnostics like 3D-CT scanning as standard.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Korea appreciate the precision of surgeons. They often combine eyelid surgery with under-eye fat repositioning. Many noted that recovery is supported by specialised IV and light therapies.

What are the common non-surgical procedures in Korea?

Common non-surgical procedures in the Republic of Korea are often called petit treatments. They focus on facial contouring and skin rejuvenation. Key options include Botox for jawline slimming and Rejuran skin boosters for hydration. Laser lifting technologies like Ultherapy or Thermage tighten sagging tissue without incisions.

  • Injectable treatments: Botox and hyaluronic acid fillers address wrinkles and restore facial volume.
  • Skin boosters: Rejuran and Juvelook injections improve skin elasticity and moisture levels.
  • Energy-based lifting: Ultherapy and Thermage devices lift skin using ultrasound or radiofrequency energy.
  • Laser resurfacing: CO2 and Fraxel lasers treat acne scars, pigmentation, and uneven texture.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume clinics in Seoul often use diagnostic tools like 3D MetaView skin analysis before starting. This allows specialists to tailor skin boosters or laser settings to a patient's exact dermal thickness. Many centres, like AB Plastic Surgery, also provide 24-hour CCTV monitoring in treatment rooms. This satisfies Korean safety regulations.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that procedures like Rejuran deliver a glass skin look. However, they recommend asking for sedation or mixing solutions if sensitive to pain. Many Australian visitors find value in budget clinics for simple mole removal or Botox. However, they suggest comparing multiple consultations for complex laser plans.

How should I prepare for a cosmetic procedure in South Korea?

To prepare for a cosmetic procedure in South Korea, patients should manage medical records, logistics, and recovery support. This should be done before arrival. Patients should discontinue blood-thinning supplements two weeks prior. Securing a clinic with CCTV monitoring in operating theatres and KOIHA or KAHF accreditation provides safety and accountability. These matter during treatment.

  • Medical disclosure: Disclose conditions like hypertension or thyroid issues to the anaesthetist before surgery.
  • Fasting rules: Fast for 6 hours if the procedure involves local anaesthesia with sedation.
  • Packing essentials: Pack zip-up clothing to avoid pulling garments over the head after surgery.
  • Recovery preparation: Arrange a caregiver for the first 48 hours to assist with food.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Leading Seoul clinics such as AB Plastic Surgery and VG Plastic Surgery have higher safety standards. They employ twice the industry average of anaesthesiology specialists. Choosing a clinic that invests in specialised staff over marketing volume often results in more attentive post-operative care. It also provides better long-term monitoring.

Patient Consensus: Patients in South Korea value clinics that offer in-person consultations with the performing surgeon. They also appreciate recovery aids like hyperbaric oxygen therapy, red light treatments, and pumpkin tea for swelling.

What should I wear on the day of my cosmetic procedure in South Korea?

Wear loose, front-opening clothing such as zip-up hoodies or button-down shirts. This avoids pulling fabric over the head. Pair these with elastic-waist sweatpants and flat, slip-on shoes. Remove all jewellery, makeup, and nail polish before arriving at the Seoul clinic. This allows accurate vital monitoring.

  • Front-opening tops: Use zip-up hoodies or cardigans to protect facial sutures and bandages.
  • Elastic waistbands: Choose sweatpants or lounge pants to accommodate post-operative swelling comfortably.
  • Slip-on footwear: Wear slides or loafers to avoid bending over for laces after surgery.
  • Monitoring prep: Remove all nail polish so anaesthetists can track oxygen levels during procedures.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Clinics like AB Plastic Surgery and VG Plastic Surgery in Seoul provide 24-hour CCTV monitoring. This monitoring is in their operating theatres. Patients should choose simple, loose-fitting cotton layers. The high-tech equipment and constant air filtration systems often keep operating theatres quite cool. Selecting a clinic with high anaesthetist ratios helps. It keeps these vitals closely monitored during the process.

Patient Consensus: Patients note that zip-up tops are essential. They suggest bringing a wide-brimmed hat or sunglasses to discreetly travel through Seoul post-surgery. Many found it helpful to stock up on soft snacks and straw bottles. They bought these from local stores before their appointment.
