The Liv Hospital Clinic confused my diagnosis. Within two hours, I thought I had cancer.  I immediately wrote to them, the answer came in two and a half hours, as they had no time to double-check. During all this time, my family and I went crazy with horror. Now they wrote to me that the translators were wrong. But pituitary adenoma is spelled the same in all languages. A malignant formation of the parotid gland is a completely different diagnosis.

"Clinic definitely recommend
When they learned what was needed in the clinic, they didn’t even know where to run and whom to contact. Coordinators helped to select a clinic. They gave us a doctor. Everything went great, the doctor is a true professional.  Separately, I want to note the attitude to patients. We were met at the airport, brought to the clinic and there was already a translator waiting. Literally "by the hand" we were taken to the doctors, everyone translated. Then they provided a taxi to the hotel.   During the operation, the ward was provided for two people - for the patient and the attendant; both of them were included in the cost of the operation.   After surgery, the doctor held a consultation, making sure that you can fly back. And only then answered questions remotely that arose.  Clinic definitely recommend

Doctors seemed professional
Doctors seemed professional. Low quality translation from Turkish to Russian and vice versa. For some reason, after PET KT (perhaps a coincidence), upon returning home, it was sharply worse. We had to urgently operate, although Turkish oncologists did not see the need for an operation, but offered to wait a month.

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What is Xofigo (Radium-223) treatment for prostate cancer and how does it work in Turkey?

Xofigo (Radium-223) is a targeted internal radiation treatment for prostate cancer that has spread to the bones. In Turkey, patients receive alpha radiation via monthly intravenous injections, which kills bone metastases cells while protecting healthy tissue. It mainly eases bone pain and controls metastases.

  • Mechanism: Radium-223 mimics calcium, concentrating in bone metastases sites.
  • Administration: Given as six monthly intravenous injections without surgery or hospital stay.
  • Effect monitoring: Focuses on blood counts and pain relief, not PSA levels.
  • Clinics: Available in JCI-accredited hospitals like Memorial Şişli and Anadolu Medical Center.
  • Side effects: Usually mild, including nausea, diarrhoea, and low blood cell counts.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey leads global demand with 393 clinics offering Xofigo. Top hospitals in Istanbul combine JCI accreditation and specialised nuclear medicine teams for precise treatment. Patients benefit from outpatient care and coordinated support including interpreters and airport transfers.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report clear bone pain relief and improved quality of life. They value that treatment avoids surgery and hospital stays. Monitoring focuses on symptom control, making expectations clear upfront.

Who is eligible for Xofigo (Radium-223) treatment for prostate cancer in Turkey?

Xofigo (Radium-223) treatment in Turkey is for men with castration-resistant prostate cancer that has spread mainly to the bones. Patients must have symptomatic bone metastases without significant spread to soft tissues or organs. It is given as monthly intravenous injections, usually after other treatments fail.

  • Bone metastases: prostate cancer must have spread to the bones with symptoms.
  • No visceral metastases: no significant cancer spread to organs like the liver or lungs.
  • Castration-resistant disease: cancer does not respond to hormone therapy.
  • Prior treatments: often used after chemotherapy or if chemotherapy is unsuitable.
  • Outpatient procedure: injections given monthly with minimal recovery time.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey’s top oncology clinics such as Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Şişli Hospital offer Xofigo treatment aligned with international guidelines. These centres provide personalised follow-up with haematologic monitoring and have a strong patient volume, ensuring well-established protocols for advanced prostate cancer care.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find Xofigo accessible as a later-line therapy with manageable outpatient visits. Many appreciate that the treatment targets only bone lesions and comes after hormone therapies or chemotherapy, fitting their complex treatment histories.

How is Xofigo (Radium-223) treatment administered for prostate cancer patients in Turkey?

Xofigo (Radium-223) treatment for prostate cancer in Turkey is given by slow intravenous injection. Specialists deliver six outpatient doses, each spaced four weeks apart, with dosages calculated by body weight. Blood tests monitor patient safety between injections, and radiation safety guidelines are provided after each dose.

  • Administration method: Slow intravenous injection over 1 minute via a vein in the arm or hand.
  • Treatment schedule: Six injections delivered every four weeks on an outpatient basis.
  • Dosage calculated: Based on 55 kBq of Radium-223 per kilogram of body weight.
  • Monitoring: Blood tests and clinical assessments occur between injections.
  • Settings: Provided in specialised nuclear medicine departments at JCI-accredited hospitals in Istanbul and Ankara.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkey’s top clinics like Memorial Şişli Hospital and Anadolu Medical Center offer Xofigo treatment with full outpatient care and radiation safety briefing. Patients benefit from internationally recognised JCI accreditation and detailed treatment plans, making the experience smooth for Australians travelling back home.
