How Much Does Thymectomy Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Thymectomy in Turkey typically costs from AUD $10,468 to AUD $16,748, depending on whether the surgery treats a simple condition or a malignant tumor. Patients save approximately 55% compared to Australia, where the average cost is AUD $30,706. Most Turkish packages cover preoperative diagnostics, surgeon fees, anaesthetic, and a hospital stay of three to six days in major hubs like Istanbul or Antalya.

  • Surgical complexity: Malignant mediastinal tumor removal often costs 20–25% more than a standard thymectomy.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery: Using the da Vinci system typically adds a premium of 20–30% over standard VATS.
  • Regional variations: Packages in Istanbul clinics may run 15–20% higher than those in regional cities.
  • Hospital tier: Leading JCI-accredited facilities often include interpreter services and airport transfers in their base price.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian patients can find exceptional value by looking beyond Istanbul. Medical Park Antalya Hospital Complex, for instance, offers all-inclusive packages around A$7,700. This includes full-board meals and a surgeon who has performed 900+ operations. In contrast, Istanbul clinics like Memorial Şişli specialise in complex robotic cases, which is why their prices often start closer to A$19,900.

I couldn't have wanted for more
What really stood out was sitting with my surgeon as he so carefully measured and marked my upper eyelids. He was very honest about what to expect from the recovery and potential scarring, which I appreciated. The procedure was done with just local anesthesia. I'm still in the early healing stages, but I am feeling better than expected so far. The clinic team has stayed in touch to check in on me, and there were no additional expenses at all. I can't even think of any advice for a future patient, because the clinic provided all the necessary information beforehand. I couldn't have wanted for more.

We were greeted warmly, as if visiting family
The doctor clearly and honestly outlined realistic recovery goals without giving empty promises. This professional and compassionate approach was evident from the very first day. I want to sincerely thank Bookimed and the entire team of the rehabilitation center! We were greeted warmly, as if visiting family. The entire staff is attentive, kind, and always ready to help. The atmosphere here is truly home-like, which is very important during inpatient rehabilitation. Our program included modern methods, including hardware therapy, and they also took care of simple but essential things: providing delicious breakfasts, lunches, and dinners every day. Importantly, there were no additional expenses beyond the clinic's payment. It's still early to talk about the results. But we are very glad we chose you. Thank you for your care, professionalism, and humanity.

Honestly, there is nothing I can say about making it a better experience, everything went smoothly and on time
What stood out most was the flawless organization from start to finish. I came for chronic pain treatment, and the entire process was handled with true professionalism. The team made it simple. My "whole experience has been excellent especially the translator and coordinator innes and alisar." The online planning was also very smooth, as Olha "dealt with everything online making my life easier" and was easy to correspond with. I gave the surgeon, staff, and clinic the highest ratings. Honestly, "there is nothing I can say about making it a better experience, everything went smoothly and on time."

Ali Zirch is the best and he has a good team
Operation DBS. Ali Zirch is the best and he has a good team . Because setting up the equipment is as important process for patients as the operation to install it. Honestly, I can't imagine that such an operation can be done in Ukraine.... Of course, there are young and promising doctors. But there is no equipment.

Dr Sait has worked wonders
On the 18th he underwent surgery with a vagus nerve stimulator on the 25th and it was connected. Dr Sait has worked wonders. Daytime seizures are very rare but nighttime seizures have changed completely. I am 35 years old and so far only the first connection 0.25 paediatric dose and 5 more connections. Thank you to the neurologist Dr Yemmir who agreed to treat me. For all my years my encephalogram is finally normal. I am from abroad. I don't live in Istanbul. But I thank the whole clinic, all the doctors, all the interpreters, all the staff.

"But I want to express my deepest and heartfelt thanks to our assistant from the first day, a month before we arrived at Mahmoud Kathab hospital, this young man is gifted with a huge heart, I think he was the person who made me choose MEDIPOL PARMERA etc
I would like to express our satisfaction with the DBS operation, the stay in the hospital, which I dare to say at the world level. Dr. Ali Zirh is an absolute professional, precise, clear, concrete and above all very human. But I want to express my deepest and heartfelt thanks to our assistant from the first day, a month before we arrived at Mahmoud Kathab hospital, this young man is gifted with a huge heart, I think he was the person who made me choose MEDIPOL PARMERA etc. Ali Zarh. Last but not least, I am fascinated by the neurologist Dr. Basak and her team, who for 21 days took care of regulating the exact therapy and impulses of my husband. Our entire stay was reduced to the last detail for our benefit, to feel at home. We have not regretted it for a moment, that we chose MEDIPOL MEGA GROUP, thank you Mahmoud, you were born to help people like us!!! Please to reword Mahmoud Kathab ,he deserved a lot!!!

I would recommend this clinic and especially the professor to anyone who needs treatment related to trigeminal nerve
I underwent Gamma Knife surgery on my trigeminal nerve at Medical Park Clinic and I would like to express my huge gratitude to all the medical staff and especially to the professor who performed the procedure. The operation was difficult, as it involved the trigeminal nerve and there was a risk of injury to nearby nerves. However, thanks to the professionalism and high qualifications of the professor, everything went well. He performed the procedure with jewellery precision, minimising possible risks and ensuring an excellent result. The Medical Park clinic also impressed with its high level of service, attentive attitude to patients and modern technological base. I felt in safe hands from the moment of consultation to the end of the rehabilitation period. I would recommend this clinic and especially the professor to anyone who needs treatment related to trigeminal nerve. Thank you for your work and care!

I do not have a very good impression of the clinic, because we went to do the operation at the agreed price of $ 4000 for the removal of tonsils, on arrival took 200 euros for consultation and said that the operation will cost 5900 euros.Prices are cosmic, it is better to choose another clinic, will be cheaper and not worse result.

FAQ about Thymectomy in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What surgical techniques are commonly used for thymectomy in Turkish hospitals?

Turkish hospitals perform thymectomy using minimally invasive robotic surgery. They also use video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) and traditional open sternotomy. Major thoracic centres in Istanbul and Antalya use high-definition 3D imaging and wristed instruments. They use these tools to treat thymomas and myasthenia gravis, while sparing healthy tissue.

  • Robotic systems: Specialists at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental use Da Vinci robots for precise mediastinal dissection.
  • VATS approach: Surgeons perform keyhole surgery through small intercostal incisions to reduce postoperative pain.
  • Median sternotomy: Doctors reserve open surgery for large tumours requiring wide exposure and clearance.
  • Transcervical technique: Clinics occasionally use small neck incisions for simple, non-extended thymus removals.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many hospitals offer VATS, centres like Central Hospital integrate AI-powered imaging. They use it to map the anterior mediastinum before surgery. This helps surgeons decide between a 3-port VATS or the Da Vinci system. This often leads to better nerve preservation and faster discharge.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey noted that recovery depends heavily on the surgeon's choice. It matters whether the approach is robotic or open. Most felt relieved when offered keyhole options. These meant fewer chest tubes and shorter hospital stays.

Which cities and hospitals in Turkey are best known for thymectomy?

Istanbul, Ankara, and Antalya are Turkey's primary hubs for thymectomy. These cities host Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited centres like Memorial Şişli and Anadolu Medical Center. They specialise in minimally invasive techniques. Highly experienced thoracic surgeons there manage complex cases involving myasthenia gravis and mediastinal tumours.

  • Istanbul centres: Memorial Şişli and Bahçelievler hospitals offer robotic and video-assisted thoracic surgery.
  • Academic affiliations: Anadolu Medical Center in Gebze collaborates with Johns Hopkins Medicine for thoracic excellence.
  • Specialist surgeons: Dr. Aziz Kemal Emek in Antalya has performed over 900 successful surgeries.
  • Minimally invasive focus: Clinics use Da Vinci robotic systems for smaller incisions and quicker recovery.
  • Patient support: Major hospitals provide dedicated English-speaking coordinators and airport transfers for international patients.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Istanbul hospitals like Memorial Şişli offer specialised thymectomy packages. These often include 2 to 4 nights of hospitalisation. While costs vary, choosing a centre with a multidisciplinary team is vital. The team should include neurologists and oncologists for managing post-operative neuromuscular care.

Patient Consensus: Patients recommend starting in Istanbul for complex private treatment. This is due to the high concentration of thoracic specialists. Many suggest focusing on surgeons with extensive chest surgery experience rather than just hospital branding.

How long do I need to plan to stay in Turkey for a complete thymectomy treatment cycle?

Patients should plan for a 10 to 14 day stay in Turkey for a complete thymectomy cycle. This timeframe covers pre-operative tests, a 2 to 4 day hospital stay, and a mandatory post-operative recovery period. This period is for safety before the flight back to Australia.

  • Hospital stay: Inpatient stays typically last 2 to 4 days depending on the surgical technique.
  • Pre-operative phase: Surgeons require 1 to 2 days for blood tests and chest imaging.
  • Recovery buffer: Experts recommend staying 7 days post-discharge to monitor for potential air leaks.
  • Technique impact: Minimally invasive VATS or robotic procedures usually allow for faster discharge than open surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many Istanbul clinics quote a 2-day hospital stay. However, Medical Park Antalya packages often include full board and 3 days of hospitalisation. Australian patients face long-haul flights and need more intensive monitoring. This extra day is vital for them.

Patient Consensus: Patients should plan for at least 2 weeks in Turkey to manage post-operative fatigue and pain safely. Surgical recovery is separate from the full treatment effect. This effect often takes months to years to manifest.

What do standard medical tourism packages for thymectomy in Turkey include?

Standard thymectomy packages in Turkey bundle surgical fees, hospitalisation, and essential diagnostics. Most inclusions cover preoperative blood tests and thoracic surgeon consultations. They also provide 2–4 nights of inpatient care in private rooms. JCI-accredited facilities often add VIP airport transfers and multilingual coordination. They also provide full-board meals to support international recovery.

  • Clinical care: Covers surgical theatre charges, anaesthesia, and thoracic surgeon professional fees.
  • Hospital stay: Includes 2–4 nights in hospital with 24-hour nursing support.
  • Diagnostics: Bundles preoperative blood panels and standard physical exams into the price.
  • Travel logistics: Typically provides shuttle transfers between the airport, hotel, and clinic.
  • Patient support: Offers personal coordinators or interpreters to assist with language barriers.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-volume centres like Medical Park Antalya include full-board meals and hotel stays. This is even true for their lower-priced A$7,600 packages. Basic packages cover essential tests. However, patients needing complex tumour staging should confirm if PET-CT scans are included or cost extra.

Patient Consensus: Large hospital groups in Turkey offer structured support. This makes navigating surgery and transfers much easier. Confirming inclusions like medications and extra nights upfront removes surprises.
