How Much Does Gastric sleeve surgery (Sleeve gastrectomy) Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Gastric sleeve surgery (Sleeve gastrectomy) in Turkey typically costs from AUD $4,609 to AUD $8,498. Final prices depend on the surgeon's experience, hospital accreditation, and chosen city, with Istanbul being a primary hub. In Australia, patients often pay AUD $21,605 for private treatment. By travelling to Turkey, Australians can achieve savings of approximately 69%. Most packages include preoperative tests, anaesthesia, hospital stay, dietician support, and VIP transfers.

  • Da Vinci Gastric Sleeve Surgery: AUD $10,082 to AUD $14,403 using robotic-assisted technology.
  • Robotic-assisted approach: typically adds 20–30% compared to standard laparoscopic methods due to specialised equipment.
  • Metropolitan hubs: packages in Istanbul often cost 15–20% more than in regional cities like Izmir.
  • Academic surgeon premium: specialists with professorships or 20,000+ surgeries often command higher package fees.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Australian patients find the best value in all-inclusive packages that bundle long-term dietician support. Lotus Bariatrics offers such plans for approximately A$7,746, including a year of nutritional guidance. For those seeking American clinical standards, Anadolu Medical Center is affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital. Meanwhile, Büyük Anadolu Hospitals provide competitive VIP packages around A$4,900. These often include four-star hotel stays and comprehensive post-operative nurse services.

Data verified by Bookimed as of July 2026, based on patient requests and official quotes from 223 clinics worldwide. Median costs are based on real invoices (2025–2026) and updated monthly. Actual prices may vary.

The surgeon, staff, and clinic all get a 5/5 from me
My biggest worry was the recovery itself, specifically how tired and weak I would feel. I have to say, my energy level has been better than expected for this early stage. It’s a relief. The surgeon, staff, and clinic all get a 5/5 from me. The biggest eating challenge right now is having no appetite at all, which is an adjustment when you know you need to get your liquids in. I can manage about a quarter cup per sitting, which makes sense given they removed 80-85% of my stomach. Overall, this was the right decision and I would certainly recommend this clinic.
Every Question Answered, Always Kept Intouch, So Helpful and Kind, I couldnt be more comfortable with how Bookimed handle everything. They did an amazing job and any doubt or worry I had they made sure to not worry. The hospital I went to was amazing and they did everything thoroughly. The doctor assigned to me was amazing and so good. After the procedure I was allowed to go back to my hotel 2 days after. My translator Betul on the 2nd day to the day I left was amazing and so pleasant to speak to.
The English Translator on the first day was nice but very invasive and asked personal questions which he was asked not to ask and you could tell that he didnt have much experience.

I am glad I chose this clinic, I recommend it to everyone
Everything was perfect. My personal driver met me at the airport and took me to the clinic in a luxury car. At the clinic I was met by the coordinator - interpreter Ismail. He helped me to get registered at the clinic and set preliminary analyses. The next day there was another coordinator - interpreter. She helped me through the remaining procedures before surgery. Many people come with an accompanying family member (mum, sister, husband) I came alone. So my coordinator sat with me in the room after surgery all day until I fully recovered, talking to me. All the days after the operation, the coordinators came several times a day to ask about my condition and my needs. All the doctors are very nice and attentive. All the staff, nurses, orderlies and other clinic staff are all very caring and nice. The ward is large and spacious. It has a toilet and a shower. There is a cupboard for personal belongings and a TV set. Meals are provided several times a day. The menu differs depending on the operation and some people can make their own diet. I am glad I chose this clinic, I recommend it to everyone. MANY THANKS TO DR ALIATIN AND MY COORDINATORS MRS BURCIN, MRS IZMAIL AND MRS OLENA.
Everything was so good, I can't even choose one thing to praise. Beautiful ward, the best staff.

I don't know if it could have been improved in any way, so I rate this experience a 10 out of 10
From the beginning the process was adapted to my needs: flight dates and availability. In only 2 weeks everything was already organised and programmed. The fact that they gave me the planning by days helped a lot, apart from the personalised assistance I received from the coordinator and the dietician. They were able to answer my questions and doubts very quickly and accurately. They did everything in such a way that it didn't seem complicated at all. One day I had all the necessary tests, the next day I was operated on, another 3 days in hospital and that was it. The day of the surgery was a bit tough but the other 3 days were very bearable, with enough painkillers and plenty of saline solution. The day before the surgery, in the personal interview with the doctor, they gave me as much information as possible and cleared up any doubts, so I already knew beforehand what the process would be. The hospital staff helped a lot to make my experience a pleasant and positive one. I don't know if it could have been improved in any way, so I rate this experience a 10 out of 10.
All information received prior to the procedure.
I would have liked to be able to communicate better in English with the clinic staff.

I've just had rhinoplasty and I want to thank my doctor who fulfilled my wishes in the shift
I've just had rhinoplasty and I want to thank my doctor who fulfilled my wishes in the shift. I'm grateful to the interpreter Olga, who was always in touch and provided assistance, and to the clinic staff, especially the night shift. I also thank the consultant Kateryna, who met all my wishes and organised all the necessary examinations, consultations and surgeries so well (Thank you)
Cleanliness, nice staff
The nutritionist only determined the exact weight of my body, no further explanation was given after my procedure. I was surprised, because after my procedure it is very important to get the right nutritional guidance for a quick recovery and better results.

The experience and professionalism of the Doctor has been unbeatable
I had a stomach reduction with Dr. Batman. I can only recommend this Dr. and the Hisar Hostel. I was very pleasantly surprised. I must admit that I had moments of doubt, of fear that they did not comply with the sanitary measures or that there might be a problem. But the whole process from start to finish was excellent. The hospital has nothing to envy to the best private hospitals in Spain, the experience and professionalism of the Doctor has been unbeatable, I had been given good references from Spain (other great bariatric doctors). And the most important thing is that they are very involved in helping you to make sure that everything goes well, even after the operation, once the year of follow-up starts. The only problem I have, which I think they need to improve, and which I saw in other opinions before deciding to go for it, is that you ask for a translator in Spanish and he never appears. In my case I speak English, but I was accompanied by my mother who doesn't speak any English and I would have appreciated having a Spanish translator at times when I was dazed by the medication. If it were necessary they should offer it, even at an extra cost. I would have paid for it
Professionalism and empathy of the doctor. The facilities and professionalism of the hospital and its staff. The hotel and the room we were offered. The follow-up at all times of the process.
I did not have a Spanish translator
About Bookimed service
The experience with the hospital and Hisar was excellent, but I think Bookimed has a lot of room for improvement. First of all, they need more staff to follow up with patients. At the beginning I was being attended by a chatbot and when I saw other opinions complaining about the same thing, I demanded to change to another coordinator who spoke my language. From that moment on I was attended by a person, and although I have no complaints, I have lacked a little more follow up. So I give an 8 because the hospital has a 10 and bookimed a 6. But without bookimed I would never have found this hospital, so I am very grateful, I hope you take this constructive criticism to improve in the future.

Thank you very much, I recommend you!
My decision to go to this clinic was spontaneous, I had not read reviews anywhere else but this resource, and I was very lucky. I was lucky to find in a foreign country, in a city I had never been to, professionals from hospitality to medical staff. Attentive accompanying interpreter, quick diagnosis and examination - and my tiny doubts were as if there were no doubts. The operation was successful, following the diet schedule I am successfully on the mend. Thank you very much, I recommend you!

AMAZING overall experience, I would recommend 10/10
I had a great experience with dr. Kaplan, he works with care and treats his patience with an utmost care, answering all questions and providing clarity when needed. The coordinator Madina was absolutely lovely, helping us out throughout the entire process making sure that we have everything we need, making this whole process stress free. The nutrition specialist Ece was very helpful not just with providing the plan, adjusting my diet and answering all my questions medically (nutritionally speaking) but she went out of her way to provide comfort to my mother that was accompanying me on this medical journey, which was immeasurably sweet and thoughtful. AMAZING overall experience, I would recommend 10/10.

Thank you again to the most amazing team for such an incredible experience
At first I was really nervous and I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into - I just knew I had to do something about the weight I had gained and let me tell you, my experience exceeded my expectations!! The team are AMAZING at what they do. The nurse, Madina, is absolutely phenomenal and has such a beautiful soul who genuinely cares about you physically, mentally and emotionally. The nutritionist, Nur, is such a realist and incredible at what she does, she is so informative and explains everything you need to know thoroughly. And finally the surgeon, Dr Kaplan Baha Temizgonul, is undoubtedly such a genuine man who guides and supports you throughout the process as well as answers any questions you may have regarding the surgery and aftercare. He is 100% amazing at what he does and ensures you feel comfortable the entire time. The communication is great, even when you fly back as you can always express any concerns you may have and they’ll deal with it accordingly. The pain after surgery only lasted a few hours and got better and better with the care of the wonderful hospital staff. I don’t think I would’ve felt as cared for if it weren’t for the staff. If you are interested, you NEED to go to Dr Baha as he is the best in the industry. I’m 100% convinced you won’t get a better service elsewhere. Thank you again to the most amazing team for such an incredible experience

They very much prioritise the patients health as all hospitals should but with the horror stories you hear in the media about health tourism is hard to find a hospital to trust, but lokman hekim is one that I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone and I think I picked the right place to have my gastric sleeve
I had an amazing experience with this hospital. The hospital itself was pristinely clean and the room I was given was luxurious and private. From all my pre op testing to after my surgery, everything flowed and was done so smoothly. The attention and care I got from the nurses post op put me at ease and made me feel so safe. Everything was brilliant with the consultant and his team
Everything was brilliant with the consultant and his team, the hospital ward staff were good apart from one nurse that was on shift and was quite rude. All the transfers were good until we needed to get to the airport and the driver was stuck somewhere and we ended up paying. 1 500 tl to get us to the airport. Our interpreter was brilliant and we had a laugh with her. I wasn’t expecting to pay out nearly £600.00 extra with having to buy all medicines and medication and protein powder. This was a shock to me as nobody had told me about this. So overall my experience was really good and the operation went really well, just lacking in a bit of after care and additional add ons.

FAQ about Gastric sleeve surgery (Sleeve gastrectomy) in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

How long is the recovery time for gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey?

Most patients spend 2 to 5 days in hospital and stay in Turkey for 7 to 10 days total. Light activity and air travel are usually safe within 5 to 7 days. However, full recovery for regular meals and unrestricted activities takes 8 weeks.

  • Hospitalisation period: Specialists require 2 to 5 days of inpatient monitoring for safety.
  • Travel clearance: Patients typically fly home 5 to 7 days after the procedure.
  • Work return: Patients can resume light professional duties within 1 to 3 weeks.
  • Total recovery: Reaching full energy and regular food stages takes about 8 weeks.
  • Physical activity: Surgeons encourage gentle walking immediately, though intense exercise requires 2 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic packages start at $3,200, clinics like Büyük Anadolu Hospitals handle massive volumes—over 280,000 patients annually. High-volume centres often provide a 3-day hospital stay followed by 4 days in a hotel. This helps patients remain medically stable before the long flight back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Recovery in Turkey is often faster than expected, with many feeling normal within days of surgery. Mentally adjusting to small liquid portions is the biggest early challenge. However, having an attentive coordinator makes the process stress-free.

Why choose Turkey for gastric sleeve surgery?

Turkey is a premier destination for gastric sleeve surgery. It combines high-volume bariatric expertise with rigorous international standards. Patients benefit from surgeons who have performed 1,000+ procedures and JCI-accredited facilities. All-inclusive packages simplify the medical journey for international travellers.

  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr Burcin Batman have completed over 1,000 bariatric surgeries.
  • Global standards: Leading hospitals like Hisar Intercontinental and Anadolu Medical Center hold JCI accreditation.
  • Advanced technology: Clinics offer laparoscopic and Da Vinci robotic systems for minimally invasive results.
  • Significant savings: Procedures cost from $3,200 to $5,900, saving Australians up to 79%.
  • Post-op support: Packages often include 12 months of dietitian assistance and 24-hour nurse care.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic packages start around A$4,100. However, the best value for Australians often lies in the A$5,500 to A$7,000 range. These mid-tier options typically bundle essential pre-op diagnostics like gastroscopy and echocardiography. These are critical for surgical safety but sometimes excluded from the lowest-priced offers.

Patient Consensus: Patients report smooth experiences with luxury transfers and attentive staff who prioritise comfort. Many appreciate the long-term support through WhatsApp groups and dietitian sessions. These help them manage the transition to new eating habits.

How is gastric sleeve surgery performed in Turkey?

Turkish surgeons perform gastric sleeve surgery using laparoscopic techniques to remove 75–80% of the stomach. Specialists use 3–5 small incisions to shape the remaining stomach into a narrow tube. This minimally invasive approach reduces scarring and involves a 2–5 day hospital stay in JCI-accredited facilities.

  • Technique: Surgeons primarily perform laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy through tiny 5–10mm abdominal incisions.
  • Robotic assistance: Some centres use the Da Vinci XI system for enhanced surgical precision.
  • Clinical benchmarks: Leading providers like Anadolu Medical Center maintain affiliations with Johns Hopkins Hospital.
  • Standard monitoring: Patients receive blood tests every 3 months and ultrasounds every 6 months.
  • Recovery timeline: Most patients walk within 48 hours and fly home 3–6 days post-surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While basic packages start from $3,200, premium options near $5,900 often include 12-month dietitian support and 24/7 WhatsApp access. This long-term guidance is vital for success. The surgery is a tool for lifestyle change.

Patient Consensus: Turkish clinics provide comprehensive kits including breathing devices, medications, and protein shakes for the flight home. Patients find Google Translate helpful for communicating with ward nurses during their recovery.

Is gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey safe?

Gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey is safe when performed by surgeons at accredited hospitals such as Hisar Hospital Intercontinental or Anadolu Medical Center. These facilities maintain JCI or ISO certifications. This means their hygiene and medical protocols are strict and comparable to private hospitals in Australia.

  • Highly experienced surgeons: Specialists like Dr. Omer Bilgehan Poyrazoglu have performed 20,000+ bariatric procedures.
  • Rigorous preoperative screening: Packages include gastroscopy, abdominal ultrasound, cardiac mapping, and blood tests.
  • Accredited medical facilities: Top centres hold JCI and AACI accreditations for international safety.
  • Post-operative support: Many clinics provide 12 months of dietitian follow-up and WhatsApp support.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Quality indicators in Turkey go beyond just JCI accreditation. Leading centres like Lotus Bariatrics maintain a 95% success rate. They also provide specialised multidisciplinary teams with nutritionists and cardiologists. This intensive screening process helps prevent complications before patients even reach the theatre.

Patient Consensus: The clinics are professional and clean. Patients feel safe with the attentive nursing care and detailed post-op plans. Many recover quickly, with some walking shortly after surgery in Turkey.

Are the surgeons performing gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey qualified?

Surgeons performing gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey are qualified specialists. They typically hold board certifications in general surgery and metabolic disorders. Many lead academic departments and have performed 1,000 to 20,000+ procedures. These procedures often take place in JCI-accredited hospitals. These hospitals maintain international safety and hygiene standards.

  • Clinical leadership: Dr Burcin Batman at Hisar Hospital Intercontinental only handles bariatric and metabolic cases.
  • Surgical volume: Some experienced specialists have done over 20,000 successful surgeries. Dr Omer Bilgehan Poyrazoglu is one.
  • Board memberships: Qualified doctors commonly hold memberships in the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO).
  • Academic standing: Many surgeons hold professorships and have extensive research in bariatric protocols. Dr Alpaslan Terzi is one.

Bookimed Expert Insight: A high volume of patients does not just reflect popularity — it drives clinical precision. Leading Turkish surgeons often perform more bariatric procedures in a month. This is more than many Western generalists do in a year. Dr Kaplan Baha Temizgonul even follows patients for 17 years. This provides long-term data rarely seen in standard clinical settings.

Patient Consensus: Clinics in Turkey provide attentive care with professional interpreters. However, bringing a companion is helpful during early recovery stages. Patients felt safe in luxurious, private rooms. Nurses prioritised health through rigorous pre-op testing and post-op support.

What support is provided after gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey?

Support after gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey includes several elements. These are hospital monitoring for 2 to 5 days, structured nutritional plans, and digital follow-up. Patients receive assistance from specialists such as Dr Burcin Batman at Hisar Hospital. Many clinics also provide 12 months of dietitian access via WhatsApp.

  • Hospital monitoring: Patients stay 2 to 5 days for vitals tracking and pain management.
  • Dietary guidance: Includes phased meal plans, protein shakes, and up to 1 year of support.
  • Patient advocates: Dedicated coordinators and English-speaking translators help with medical appointments and discharge instructions.
  • Recovery aids: Packages often include compression garments, varicose vein stockings, and breathing exercise devices.
  • Remote follow-up: Surgeons and dietitians provide 24/7 digital consultations for 6 to 12 months.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Basic packages cover surgery. However, premium options like those at Lotus Bariatrics include psychologists and 17-year follow-up data. These clinics often bundle histopathology and post-op medications. This saves patients roughly A$600 in extra out-of-pocket costs typically found in Budget-tier facilities.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey appreciate the luxury transfers. Having a dedicated coordinator sit with them throughout the initial recovery is reassuring. Most find that walking by day 4 is achievable. However, many recommend staying 7–10 days to ensure full stability before flying.

How long does gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey take, and what is the process?

Gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. It requires a total stay of 6 to 7 days. The process includes an intensive day of pre-operative tests. This is followed by laparoscopic surgery and a 2- to 3-day hospital recovery period.

  • Pre-operative phase: Patients undergo blood tests, endoscopy, and specialist consultations within 24 hours of arrival.
  • Surgical duration: Surgeons typically complete the laparoscopic sleeve procedure in 60 to 90 minutes.
  • Hospital recovery: Patients stay in hospital for 2 to 3 days for monitoring and pain management.
  • Initial mobility: Most patients are mobile and walking within 24 to 48 hours post-surgery.
  • Travel timeline: Patients usually rest at a hotel before flying home on day 6 or 7.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Many clinics offer 2-night hospital stays. However, premium packages at Atlas University Hospital or Optimed International Hospital include 5 days of inpatient monitoring. Extra hospital time often yields better outcomes for international patients, as it keeps their vital signs stable before the long flight back to Australia.

Patient Consensus: Patients can expect a busy first day of testing, followed by quick surgery and plenty of walking. The loss of appetite is immediate, so patients should focus on sipping liquids and using provided protein shakes. Turkish medical staff are very attentive, and luxury transfers make the logistics seamless.

How long will I stay in hospital after gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey?

Gastric sleeve surgery in Turkey typically requires a hospital stay of 2 to 3 nights. The stay lets specialists at JCI-accredited facilities monitor patients' recovery and manage pain. They also confirm patients tolerate fluids. Most patients are fit for discharge after 72 hours. They then move to a nearby hotel.

  • Hospital duration: Standard stays range from 2 to 3 nights for laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy.
  • Clinical monitoring: Medical teams track recovery milestones and manage early post-operative discomfort or nausea.
  • Mobility goals: Surgeons encourage walking within hours of surgery to improve circulation and reduce gas.
  • Medical clearance: Discharge occurs once doctors confirm patients are hydrated and meeting specific clinical benchmarks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While a 3-night stay is standard, some packages offer 5-day inpatient stays. Examples include Anadolu Medical Center and Optimed International Hospital. Choosing a longer hospital stay may provide more consistent nursing support. This is helpful for patients travelling alone from Australia.
