How Much Does Removal of spinal cord tumor Cost in Turkey in AUD?

Removal of spinal cord tumor in Turkey typically costs from AUD $5,856 to AUD $30,259. The final price depends on the tumor location, surgical technique, and the need for intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring. In Australia, similar procedures cost around AUD $56,194 on average, meaning patients save approximately 68% by travelling. Packages often include surgical fees, hospital stays, and airport transfers.

  • Standard resection: AUD $5,856 to AUD $30,259 for microsurgical tumor removal.
  • Spine tumor embolization: AUD $10,458 to AUD $15,338 for reducing blood flow before surgery.

The staff were a definite highlight, providing excellent support and guidance throughout the PET-CT with Gallium 68 PSMA scan
I came away with a positive overall impression of the day. The staff were a definite highlight, providing excellent support and guidance throughout the PET-CT with Gallium 68 PSMA scan. They made me feel looked after. The doctor was professional and the clinic itself was well-equipped. My only negative, and the reason for a lower overall score, was the airport transfer. The taxi was difficult for me to get in and out of. More importantly, upon arrival at the airport, I could not find the driver at the designated meeting point, which created unnecessary stress. While the medical care was handled very well, the logistics of the transport could be improved.

It was the right choice
What worried me most was the uncertainty and what the treatment plan would be. But my fears were put to rest after the very first consultation. The doctor was very attentive and explained everything in detail and calmly, which immediately put me at ease. I really appreciate that approach. All the staff at the clinic were responsive and supportive at every stage. The clinic itself made a good impression; everything is well organised. I am currently in the recovery phase and feel much calmer, having a clear understanding of the next steps. It was the right choice.

The surgeon was excellent
What surprised me most about my basalioma treatment wasn't the procedure itself, but the detailed skin examination I received. The surgeon was excellent. He made sure all removal options were discussed clearly, which was reassuring since I already had my diagnosis before arriving. Right now, the treated area is healing very well. While the medical care was superb and the clinic facilities are great, the administrative staff seemed a bit disorganized, which was the only downside. Despite that, based on the surgeon’s work, it’s a place I would suggest to others.
My Bookimed coordinator was highly skilled, had the passion and patience for her work and that translated to the numerous array of options provided to me to choose from based on my budget during the entire process. She interacted with me 24/7 just for us to have solution within my schedule. All information (proforma, visa assistance, travel guidance and estimated personal expenses) for the entire treatment were on point and I encourage all manner of persons seeking medical treatment abroad to choose Bookimed as their medical tourism partner.
1. Interpreter only come when the patient calls for his services and that is only during the day. If the interpreter can also support beyond the interactions with the specialist. 2. Airport and Internal movement are left to the patient to handle which can sometimes be a major challenge for some category of patients and given the language barrier. 3. Hospital discharges are very strict even if you the patient feels he/she need additional day(s) to be fit for a return to the hotel to continue the recovery.

The doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process
My main concern before starting treatment was how my body would react to the drug. I’m undergoing a course of Keytruda immunotherapy for kidney cancer, receiving an infusion every three weeks. Yes, I have experienced some side effects. These are mainly digestive issues, and I feel a little more tired. Of course, I am still concerned that these might get worse over time. But I must say that the doctor and all the staff have been very attentive and professional, which gives me confidence that I made the right choice of clinic and treatment process.

When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10
My biggest worry was finding a surgeon and team I could completely trust for this personal procedure. That concern disappeared quickly. From the first consultation, the surgeon was professional and the staff were consistently kind, which made the whole process feel secure and well-managed. I'm still in the early stages of healing, but the level of care has been excellent. Everything was clear. When friends ask if I would suggest this clinic to them, my answer is a 10. The support has been fantastic.
Coordinator stayed in touch .The clinic exceeded expectations.I wanted to thank Dr. Baris Nuhoglu and his assistant, who took impeccable care of me. They listened to me and resolved a problem that was very serious and causing me discomfort. On May 19th, they gave me a new birth with professionalism, seriousness, and empathy.I have e big gratitude and deep respect to Dr. Baris and his team, and I wish to return in a few months for a check-up and, who knows, maybe for another new treatment.😁😉👍

Thank Allah that we met him and he did a good surgery
Many thanks to Dr Bora Basharan and Alisher Durdiev! Diagnosis: carcinoma on the tongue. Alisher was very helpful with the choice and full support during the treatment. He gave us confidence in choosing Dr Bora Basharan by telling us about his professionalism and humanity. The most important thing for Alisher was the patient's health and to organise the diagnosis/surgery so that the patient gets the best results. We are very happy about this. We could not decide on the treatment (we were waiting for answers from South Korea) and Alisher did not give up to provide us with doctor's answers, answer our many questions and help with organisation. His ability to speak excellent Russian helped a lot in communication. The first meeting organised by Alisher went well. The doctor explained everything about the surgery and gave us peace of mind due to his experience as a highly specialised ENT surgeon in oncology. The operation went well and the follow up health checks. The recovery is good. We read many positive reviews online about Dr Bor Basharan which gave us more confidence. The reviews are true. After the surgery we were given a room with excellent food and the recovery was good. Thank Allah that we met Alisher and Dr Bora Basharan, for his golden hands, good surgery and organisation. Thank you very much again! Good health to all!

The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience
My biggest concern before the operation was the recovery period, but now, 15 days after the prosthetic testicle implant surgery, I can say that things are going as expected. I received a small prosthesis measuring 3.5 cm; although I’m not sure of the brand, I’m satisfied with it. The surgeon and all the staff at the clinic were highly professional and competent throughout my experience. Everything went well. The recovery period is going well and without any problems so far.

Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience
The hospital was fantastic, room was private, with all required amenities, cafe - lovely, everything was beautiful and clean. Staff were just so accommodating, my Doctor was knowledgeable, explained the procedure in detail. Honestly, I'm in awe from this experience. And even though I was coming in with a slight fear and a tiny panic attack, there was really no need to worry, everything is on a highest level! Thanks to all!
Translators were top notch! Everything was amazing, I can't select just one thing.
Had issue with payment, it kept getting rejected and due to this I wasn't admitted right away. But once payment went through, all services followed smoothly.

My care was very good from start to finish. As soon as I arrived at the hospital, I was greeted by my interpreter and team. They were very friendly, put me at ease and explained what would happen and when. I had checks done and blood taken etc and met the consultant. Dear readers, if anyone wants to be treated abroad, come specifically to Florence Nightingale and find Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir and you will not go wrong with your choice
I, Temirbek Ormotoev came from Kyrgyzstan, I chose Florence Nightingale Hospital which was helped by bookimed company and the staff of this company liked me, especially I am happy to deal with Professor Ahmet-Tunch Ozdemir. Today is the 3rd day after the operation performed by Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir. The operation was done wonderfully, I am satisfied and also the hospital conditions and medical staff were top notch, everyone is polite to the patients, especially the head nurse and nurse Linhai were very good at patient care. Why did I choose Florence Nightingale specifically? Because this hospital is one of the advanced hospitals in Turkey and there is a DaVinci robotised system. I have a neoplasm in my kidney over 30 mm. Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir performed the operation within 1.5 hours and he has golden hands. Dear readers, if anyone wants to be treated abroad, come specifically to Florence Nightingale and find Prof Ahmet-Tunç Ozdemir and you will not go wrong with your choice. I was discharged on the second day after surgery, I feel great and recovery is underway. In terms of the cost of paying for the surgery, compared to other clinics in Turkey, it is realistic and inexpensive. Mr Ahmet-Tunc Ozdemir, my family and I wish you good health, longevity, good luck in everything and that you stay for a long time saving patients from various diseases, Allah help you. I am also grateful to the medical coordinators of bookimed platform, Liana, who from the very beginning until today accompanies and helps with treatment abroad and assistants named Alisher, translator Aigerim, who know their business professionally. Thank you all who helped me with this situation, Allah bless us all.
Liked Prof Ahmet-Tunç Özdemir, service, medical staff, clinic, overall everything is good.

FAQ about Removal of spinal cord tumor in Turkey

These FAQs come from real patients seeking medical assistance through Bookimed. Answers are given by experienced medical coordinators and trusted clinic representatives.

What surgical techniques are used for spinal cord tumour removal in Turkey?

Surgeons in Turkey use microsurgical excision, laminectomy, and laminoplasty for spinal cord tumour removal. These procedures often utilise intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring to prevent nerve damage. Specialised centres in Istanbul employ high-powered microscopes and robotic systems. These allow for precise resection while protecting spinal stability.

  • Microsurgical excision: Surgeons use high-magnification microscopes to separate tumours from delicate spinal nerves safely.
  • Laminectomy approach: This technique involves removing part of the vertebra to access and decompress the cord.
  • Laminoplasty technique: Doctors reconstruct the vertebral arch after tumour removal to maintain natural spinal alignment.
  • Neurophysiological monitoring: Specialists track nerve signals in real-time during surgery to reduce paralysis risks.

Bookimed Expert Insight: While many centres offer laminectomy, leading hospitals like Anadolu Medical Center or Hisar Hospital Intercontinental prioritise laminoplasty. This is especially true for complex cases. This technique is often paired with intraoperative monitoring. It helps prevent post-surgical spinal deformity, which is a common concern for Australian patients.

Patient Consensus: Patients feel reassured by the thorough preoperative scans and the use of nerve monitoring. The professional coordination and clear communication in Istanbul made the intense surgical process feel manageable and safe.

What are the success rates for spinal tumour surgery in Turkey?

Spinal tumour surgery in Turkey has success rates between 85% and 90% for minimally invasive procedures and spinal stability. High outcomes are driven by intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring and microsurgery at JCI-accredited centres like Anadolu Medical Center and Memorial Şişli Hospital. These techniques protect nerve function during resection.

  • Microsurgical precision: Surgeons achieve high rates of gross total resection while sparing healthy spinal cord tissue.
  • Advanced monitoring: Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring tracks nerve signals in real-time to prevent permanent neurological damage.
  • Hospital stay: Patients typically need 6 days of specialist inpatient care for initial recovery and monitoring.
  • Specialist expertise: Surgeons like Dr. Cevdet Gokcek report success rates reaching 95% for complex spine surgeries.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Data reveals that surgeons at major Istanbul centres often combine Yale or US-based fellowship training with high patient volumes. Leading specialists like Dr. Baran Yil or Dr. Nejat Akalan have handled thousands of cases. As a result, complication rates for delicate intramedullary tumours remain low.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey report regaining sensation and mobility shortly after surgery. They highlight the importance of asking for surgeon-specific resection estimates and having a clear rehabilitation plan for returning to Australia.

What is included in a typical spinal tumour surgery package in Turkey?

Typical spinal tumour surgery packages in Turkey include the neurosurgeon fee and general anaesthesia. They also cover approximately 6 nights of hospitalisation. Most all-inclusive bundles also cover pre-operative diagnostic tests and neurophysiological monitoring during the operation. They include VIP airport transfers to the clinic.

  • Medical services: Include neurosurgeon fees, anaesthetist consultations, and all theatre costs.
  • Diagnostic imaging: Covers pre-op blood tests, ECG, and postoperative MRI or CT scans.
  • Hospital stay: Typically provides 4 to 6 nights in a private hospital room.
  • Logistical support: Offers VIP airport-clinic transfers and dedicated English-speaking patient coordinators.
  • Recovery aids: Often provides post-op medications and supportive devices like neck collars.

Bookimed Expert Insight: High-end packages at Memorial Healthcare Group often reach A$39,200 because they bundle complex laminectomies. Patients can save by choosing centres like Anadolu Medical Center. There, affiliation with Johns Hopkins ensures top-tier neurophysiological monitoring for approximately A$24,800.

Patient Consensus: Packages in Turkey feel seamless because coordinators handle everything from transfers to translation. Patients appreciate that follow-up scans and neck collars are typically included in the upfront price. Confirming every itemised detail before flying prevents confusion during the recovery period.

How long does recovery after spinal cord tumour removal in Turkey last?

Spinal cord tumour recovery in Turkey typically involves a 4 to 6-day hospital stay. This stay is for pain management and monitoring. Wound healing takes about 3 to 4 weeks. However, initial mobility begins within 1 to 2 days after surgery. Full neurological and strength recovery often requires 3 months to 2 years.

  • Hospitalisation: Patients stay 4 to 6 nights for intensive monitoring and pain control.
  • Initial mobility: Assisted walking usually begins within 1 to 2 days after the operation.
  • Wound healing: Skin incisions generally heal within 3 to 4 weeks with proper care.
  • Rehabilitation: Formal physiotherapy starts around week 4 to restore strength and coordination.
  • Nerve recovery: Sensation and motor function improvements continue for up to 2 years post-surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish neurosurgery packages often include intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring to protect spinal nerves during tumour removal. Clinics like Anadolu Medical Centre and Hisar Hospital build in 6-day hospital stays. This longer clinical observation period helps manage the early, critical phase of neurological recovery. It does so more effectively than shorter stays.

Patient Consensus: Getting up to walk within 48 hours is standard. However, long-term success in Turkey depends on months of dedicated physiotherapy. Patients can expect significant improvements in the first 90 days. However, sensory changes like numbness can take over a year to resolve.

Which hospitals in Turkey are recommended for spinal tumour removal?

Memorial Sisli Hospital, Anadolu Medical Center, and Hisar Hospital Intercontinental are top-rated Turkish hospitals for spinal tumour removal. These JCI-accredited facilities specialise in microsurgery and neuromonitoring to protect nerve function. Specialists often use 3T MRI and O-arm 3D imaging. This allows precise resection of intramedullary or extramedullary tumours.

  • Anadolu Medical Center: Affiliated with Johns Hopkins Hospital, offering neurophysiological monitoring and thoracic laminoplasty.
  • Memorial Healthcare Group has multiple centres, including Sisli and Bahcelievler. These offer laminectomy with Magnetom Skyra 3T MRI.
  • Hisar Hospital Intercontinental has a dedicated neurosurgery unit. It is equipped with 640-slice CT scanners and MR-LINAC.
  • Florence Nightingale Hospital is Turkey's first smart-and-green hospital. It specialises in complex neuro-oncology and full-endoscopic spine surgery.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Anadolu Medical Center stands out for Australian patients because of its direct Johns Hopkins affiliation. This mirrors Western clinical protocols. Laminectomy packages start from A$13,300. However, for tumour cases, it's vital to choose a package with neurophysiological monitoring. This prevents permanent nerve damage during the procedure.

Patient Consensus: Large hospital groups like Acibadem or Memorial are preferred for complex oncology care. They are chosen over smaller clinics. Patients appreciate the approachable staff and thorough explanations during consultations. They also value the cleanliness of facilities in Istanbul.

What alternative treatments are available for spinal cord tumours in Turkey besides surgery?

Non-surgical alternatives for spinal cord tumours in Turkey include stereotactic radiosurgery like CyberKnife and Gamma Knife, targeted drug therapies, and interventional procedures like tumour embolisation. Major JCI-accredited centres in Istanbul use these methods to treat unresectable tumours or to control growth after incomplete surgical resection.

  • Radiosurgery options: CyberKnife and Gamma Knife provide high-precision radiation to destroy tumour cells without incisions.
  • Drug therapies: Specialists use targeted medications like everolimus and immunotherapy to slow malignant cell progression.
  • Tumour embolisation: Interventional neuroradiologists perform this to cut off blood supply, costing $7,500 to $11,000.
  • Focused ultrasound: MRgFUS technology allows for the non-invasive treatment of specific spinal tissues using heat.

Bookimed Expert Insight: Turkish oncology centres often combine treatments in ways that save time for international patients. Prof Gul Alco at Medipol uses CyberKnife alongside Da Vinci robotic systems for precise targeting. While surgery remains the primary tool for decompression, these non-invasive technologies allow specialists to manage complex cases that were previously considered untreatable.

Patient Consensus: Patients in Turkey find that radiation is effectively used to stabilise tumours when surgery is too risky. Many combine surgery with five weeks of follow-up radiation and targeted drugs to maintain long-term stability.
